I also mentioned Gase's offense in my post, which Jason was replying to. So, yes, it's definitely that they're playing it conservatively and that they're getting the ball out faster. But I don't think you can say it's 100% just that, I think when things improve as they have, you have to give a little credit to the line as well. At a minimum, the coaches having the balls to move Long, which I was leery of myself, seems to have been a smart idea given the holes elsewhere. Talent on offense which has been banged up as all hell all season.

It doesn't hurt that there are 24 QB's in the NFL that have been sacked more than Cutler too. I think that has something to do with Gase's offense and an overall improvement in our line play.

Fact is they got embarrassed on National TV. They ferked up the Favre game and that's going to last a generation. It's hurting, you can tell. And I LOVE IT!!! Fact is they got most of the calls that were called wrong. Fact is McCarthy isn't actually a very good coach. He's a fat ass troll with great talent handed to him. Fox and Fangio kicked his ASS. Fact is they aren't in first place and the team ahead of them isn't very good. Given all these facts, if there's a way the Packers fall apart and don't make the playoffs, I could see them firing a head coach.

And I have to ask it again... Anyone STILL believe there's such a thing as a meaningless win? Sure, it's tough. But if we'd have won even one of the two games we should've, we'd be that much closer to the playoffs. And I assume we'll lose early in those hypothetical playoffs but how much positive can come from getting a team with this many new pieces, mostly young, some playoff experience? I'd say even a single playoff game would leave them with a taste they'd remember all off season which would be great heading into camp next year. Lessons are learned via experience. We won't get that opportunity this year unless we're incredibly lucky.

Yeah, I guess I'm saying I wouldn't worry too much about his workload. He's been a horse for years and so it won't impact him much if the Bears bring him back for a few more years. If they more on, his workload won't matter at all. I'm sure he wants to showcase his talents as the season wraps up. If he didn't, he'd just take his current injury and ride it out for the rest of the year. He wants to tell other teams looking at him "I'm durable." If he decides a one year deal (maybe two) is all he needs to stay with the team, I hope the Bears hang onto him.

Does the SOS calc you're using take into account future games or just games to date? If it take into account future games and all else is equal, if we lose to Green Bay, I'm all for playing the rest of the season like it's next year's extended preseason. I didn't think we were this close to a top pick given all the absolutely shitty teams in the NFL this season.

Question... When you get to the point of the season you're playing guys with an eye toward the future, do you continue to play Forte? I do. Because we already know what we have in our other guys and Matt is: 1. Playing for his future contract, likely elsewhere 2. Less valuable to the Bears and therefore potentially the "better guy to get hurt" if it happens. Not that I want to see Matt leave nor do I want to see him hurt, but given his age and the likelihood of his leaving, I'd play it that way. Thoughts?

We'll just never agree on this one. I don't think the Bears "learned" anything of value yesterday and while they're surely working their way to better draft position and this season was a write-off in my mind before it started, I'd definitely love it if they had 2 of those 3 W's in close games they could've won, making their record good enough to still be in the hunt. We're not going to be bad enough to get a top 5 pick and once you get past that portion of the draft there's so many ways you can take your draft it almost doesn't matter whether you're picking ten, fifteen or twenty. The problem with the Lovie era wasn't the "meaningless wins" so much as the meaningless first round choices by Angelo. But whatever, I understand your point and respect it. There's definitely a school of thought that supports it. I just want to kick ass and let the chips fall where they may.

This team is 4-5 and with better closing efforts against Minnesota and Detroit, we're 6-3 and leading the division. Not saying this team isn't flawed because it is and they'd likely lose in the playoffs pretty quick. But the NFC is pretty lousy so who knows? Just WIN baby. Just win.

It's absolute unmitigated BS. You're 100% right and I thought the same thing when I saw it. This is the legacy of one of the worst commissioners in the history of the NFL. He just has to tweak shit nobody cares about like making extra points into circus acts while not addressing clear issues with the rulebook. The announcers made it clear that NOBODY knows how to call these things anymore. It's getting to the point that the college game is much more appealing to me. If a 50 year old Bears fan for the last 45 years is feeling this way, the NFL better get their shit together.

Agreed with your first comments. The ONLY reason the ad makes any sense is because of Ditka's persona being so tied to the Bears. With that said, Ditka hasn't been "The Man" in quite some time. He had the right stuff for the early 80's but soon proved to not be the best coach. He had the talent on that team to do more than he did. Jimmy Mac always being hurt didn't help but he still should've done more. And after the Bears weren't the most talented team in the NFL, his coaching faltered. And his ego is, bar none, the biggest I've ever seen.

I agree with everything in this thread except the concept of winning a meaningless game. I want the team to win every Sunday. You build a winning attitude by winning. You get soft with excepting excuses and patting yourself on the back for a good try. There's no damn good reason the Bears shouldn't have won the last two games they played other than the defense cratered in the clutch. 2/3rds of the teams in the NFL just beg you to beat them week after week. They suck. It's the good teams that capitalize and do just that. While I think we're on the right path, and at the end of the day Jason might be right that this is a good loss in the long run, I cringe when I see the team happy with moral victories. They shouldn't accept failure so happily, nor should we as fans.

Well if he didn't learn from his mistakes in Denver I'm even more disappointed. And Gase was with him. On the road, in OT, you have to have some balls and be more aggressive with the play calling. This year is honestly a year for growth anyway so I'm not going to get too down on him. But there has to be improvement in all aspects of this team, including coaching.
