Fox: Culter's confidence was rattled last year
CrackerDog replied to CrackerDog's topic in Bearstalk
What I never understood about Jay, at least these last few seasons, was the horrible first halves of games. I mean he'd look like complete SHIT for 30 minutes! And then come around, usually, in the second half. Not always. But damn it man, get your head in the game from the opening kickoff! This is the NFL... -
Fox: Culter's confidence was rattled last year

Good point except Devin never showed he was capable of being a #1 receiver while Cutler has clearly shown he's a very good QB for extended periods. So I think that's a little bit of a stretch. Look, we're all hoping for the best. That's all that really needs to be said. We're all fans, we're all tired of Jay's antics and bad moments and we're all going to get behind him when the season starts... Until he proves unworthy of our support. AGAIN -
Per Leming, Ball was a target of Pace's since the beginning of FA and he was just patient. Another 1 year deal, also. I could see this spelling the end for Peanut.

Fox: Culter's confidence was rattled last year

Yes they do! Because Jay has all those skills IMO and it's been mostly mental. So if you build a system he's comfortable with, call plays that control his jitters, particularly early in the games, give him guys who run clean routes and don't freelance, keep his jersey clean, run the damn ball better, don't fall behind 14-0 in the first 5 minutes of the game, get better starting field position because your ST's don't blow... It can all add up to him being much better than we've seen recently. The guy has done some amazing things in a Bears uniform and he's just plain sucked donkey balls at other times. Ironing out those inconsistencies is what a good coaching staff ought to be able to do. Notice I said can and not will. I don't have the same confidence in Jay I did a few years ago. He's got to get it done or he's gone in a season or two and he'll be thought of as a guy who had the tools and wasted his talents. If he can make the next few seasons count, he'll retire with achievements he'll be proud of and the team will have benefited. No, I wasn't saying I was capable of stepping up to Jay's level but that he, with the talents he possesses, is capable of continuing to learn and grow just like anyone his age or older. And with good mentoring from his coaches I still hope he can do something for the Bears that we haven't had happen here in 30 years. -
Fox: Culter's confidence was rattled last year

Hey dude, I'm 50 and I change and learn and grow every day. So, yes, it's possible. If Jay wants to have a legit legacy he'll buy in and work hard. But the question is will he be mature enough to make yet another change and commit like will be necessary. And that's why we'll be watching the games... -
Fox: Culter's confidence was rattled last year

There's only so much truth to this... Cutler and Rodgers have both had their fair share of lousy line play. And despite it, Rodgers is great and Cutler is Cutler. Now you can point at lots of other factors like Aaron always having McCarthy up there calling the plays and yadda yadda yadda Jay not. But when Jay was brought in here, he was already supposed to be seasoned. And he's being paid to be Rodgers. I'm not sure it's completely fair to say we ruined him. We certainly didn't help him develop further like a great organization should have. That's a fair statement. But I sure hope he's still capable of being what we brought him in here to be for the next few years. Otherwise it's going to take a lot longer than anyone wants to get Fox his Superbowl Trophy. -

That would certainly make Jason happy. And me. Although it's my understanding that there aren't any true LT's available this year and you don't generally spend a #1 on a RT. But yeah, scheme in the O Line can only go so far, you have to have the players. So I'm all for getting some help in the line during the draft. -
Article here.
-
Yep. Sorry. If you read the Fansided article it clearly says he did this yesterday. But it's wrong, I'm pretty sure, unless everybody missed this.
-
Well, I think it's something he did LAST YEAR although Fansided is phrasing it like it was done yesterday. I see no evidence of this being doen again this year at Over The Cap or Sportrac unless I'm missing something. I think it's a bust in Fansided's reporting.
-
According to Fansided the Bears and Cutler restructured his deal on Tuesday freeing up $5 million in cap space. Spotrac shows his deal with a column called Restructure Bonus. See here for Spotrac: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/chicago-bears/jay-cutler/ See Fansided article here: http://fansided.com/2015/03/25/chicago-bea...-without-agent/ I think Fansided may be wrong since this is the only place reporting it. Jay restricted his deal LAST YEAR at about this time to do exactly what Fansided is saying is happening now. So, I'm confused unless he's done the same type of restructure two years in a row.
-
He met with the Bears today without his agent. The story actually says he restructured on Tuesday. I'm not familiar with what it looked like before but Spotrac now shows a "Restructure Bonus" column that probably wasn't there before. See: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/chicago-bears/jay-cutler/

Whoa. This is a headline if that's recent info!
-
I realize this is a chicken and egg deal but I'm not sure we can judge the talent on this team unless we're able to say they've got proper coaching. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part but I hope the new staff can better utilize the talents of the guys we do have to get more out of them. The only BPA I wouldn't do is a first round QB given where this team stands now.
-
I don't know on the DL since I think we still may end up getting someone early in the draft. That said, I'd say there'll be a rotation depending on down/distance at LB but your basic config will likely be: McClellin, Bostic, Foster, McPhee. And that's only if McClellin really has the skills we've been told he has. Shit dude, who the hell knows?
-
I think he's above average as well and his experience in the system, during this transitional time, is required. So getting him while he's "down" for a cheap one year deal is a good idea. (Assuming he isn't guilty, of course.)
-
I think the team now has something like 43 linebackers signed on it. So there should be some nervous guys who wore numbers in the 50's on their backs last year.
-
I'm more interested in Virginia's take on this than Vic's. I've got to believe that this type of signing gets blessed at the top and she's a known feminist. I can't believe they'd sign him if she didn't approve. And if she approved, it might mean they have enough data to suggest he's clean. We'll see.
-
That might be true. But there are thousands of women who never come forward because they know they're going to have their lives torn apart during the trial. So, it's tough man. I tried to be "fair and balanced" in my earlier post but you have to be really careful you don't end up with a serial abuser or rapist on the team. And I'd prefer to err on the side of the woman when there are multiple charges or claims. The Bears better know something we don't or they're going to end Pace's career a lot faster than anyone would like.
-
I would assume, based on the article, that he's been able to "prove" his innocence to the Bears or this wouldn't be happening. If they're not 10000% sure on this, the deal better be a one year with no guaranteed money. If they're buying into his innocence, then I'd be OK with a longer deal. But frankly guys, and yes he's deserving of his day in court and innocent until proven guilty, but I don't want anyone on the Bears who could've done these things. The only reason I'm not against this is the earlier call HE placed to 911 which suggests she might be a bit unhinged and he was defending himself. Who knows? You can't simply take one side or the other without knowing more than we do in that article. And him filing a countersuit to try to clear his name tells me something. Has anyone confirmed this is a done deal? The press conference will be interesting because you've got to handle stuff like this perfectly or it goes off the rails real quick.

I just registered here: https://nfldraft.fishsoftware.com/prereg/ If that doesn't work try this: http://www.nfl.com/drafttickets and then click the link they provide. Good luck!
-
I put my name on the list for tickets but haven't heard anything back. Not sure if they've already dispersed the tickets or not but as of last week they still hadn't.

Dude, that's hardcore! My old man slammed an axe into his forearm somehow and gashed it wide open. I remember him walking into the house putting pressure on the wound with his other hand and telling my mom to drive him to the hospital. I generally try to avoid using an axe.

Yep. Force equals mass times acceleration (Newton's Second Law). The only thing I remember from HS Physics class. So it appears all those hulks moving like they're roadrunners is finally taking it's toll.
