  1. I guess he also scouted Cedric Benson too. On the "bad" side of the ledger...
  2. JA made some abysmal picks before Lovie was granted additional say in the draft room, IIRC. With JA the record was mixed, as it was with Lovie. There were things to get upset about and things to appreciate with each. The overall results weren't good enough for either and so the organization moved on. And they picked two guys who were worse. IMO, we'd have seen a better football team with JA and Lovie still in place the last 2/3 years, respectively. That isn't saying much because I doubt we'd have been serious playoff contenders in either year but at least we wouldn't have been embarrassments.
  3. I generally think Ryan is being considered, by the league not just the Bears, as a DC going forward. And in that role, I think he'd be solid for us. But if that's the case you've got to find someone willing to deal with him for HC.
  4. Yep, they're called intangibles for a reason. You can't quite put your finger on a stat to show what you're seeing but you're eyes aren't lying. I was a big Cutler backer during most of the wars here about QB. I still hope he does something for this franchise but if they cut bait in the next few months I'm ready to move on. Jay isn't going to break my heart, one way or the other. But the proof is really in the results we've seen and I want a guy, no matter how bad things are going, who goes out there and grabs the team by the balls and wills them to victory. If not victory, at least to keep giving it 110%. That hasn't been Jay and I'm not sure if he's got it in him anymore. I think Jay would be good to great with a team that didn't need to rely on him as much as the Bears have had to under Trestman. That D and ST was firkin horrible! So, I guess we'll see. The next few weeks will really determine if he's around for the season next year. As the pieces fall into place, we'll know more about whether the new HC is a believer in Jay. And we'll also learn if other teams are willing to offer a trade for Jay. Frankly if teams expect the Bears to eat a portion of the contract I think we'll be watching Jay with the new HC (or his OC) calling the plays. And at that point, I'm going to be hoping like hell that Jason was right in having faith in Jay for another season. We all will.
  5. I seem to recall his name was in the mix on one of our prior GM hires. Can't recall if it was during the last search or when we hired Angelo.
  6. Ha! You're asking for it bubba. Lot's of Cutler hate here. As far as your analysis is concerned, you make a lot of good points. My issue with Jay is more one of leadership than stats. I know I shouldn't read so much into the way he carries himself on the field but it just translates, to me, into "I don't care" or "I've given up". As I've said, I can go either way on this. I want the right GM/HC hired and then let them make the decision on Jay. I see very little likelihood Jay isn't at QB for the Bears next year. And I think there's a chance, with the right system, Jay can be very successful. Certainly that's my hope.
  7. It was a comment meant to make fans happy. The last time the league had teams the rest of the league feared, in this way, was the 85 Bears. Maybe a few Ravens teams since. Otherwise, as you say, it doesn't exist.
  8. You know, there was a part of me that liked the emotion he showed during this portion of the press conference. But there was a part of me that thought, this guy just told us his mommy is mad at him. Grow up you big pussy! If the emotion he showed translates into actions that benefit this team, I'll be very happy he got involved and drove the team to success. But in leaving Teddy in place, they're basically telling us this is business as usual with a side order of consultant. Accorsi has plenty of pluses and minuses. It's up to the Bears owners and upper managers to make the right call from Accorsi's list. I hope he gives them 100% A+ guys so they can't ferk it up but if there's one clinker in the bunch, I fear Teddy, George and his mommy will LOVE that candidate.
  9. Actually they had a particularly bad game when Clausen started. I would assume it had something to do with the difference in delivery or something. I'll leave the "Cutler is our QB" decision up to the new hire at HC. I'm sick of that argument, sick of Jay's inconsistency, sick of his lack of leadership and sick of the fact that he's paid like a top 5 QB and plays like it about 33% of the time. But if he's our best option next year I'll root for him just the same.
  10. That stuck with me too. George kept saying body of work for Emery and Trestman but not for Ted. His body of work BLOWS. He's accomplished exactly SQUAT! A big goose egg. He sucks at his job and they're even admitting it by bringing in Accorsi. So why does someone who sucks at his job still have a job?
  11. I really hated the "We can hire HC first" comment as I noted in another thread. That isn't how it should be. They are also under a lot of pressure to get this done quickly. Cutler's guaranteed money increases in March so they need to hire a GM and then he needs to be involved in the HC hire. Then they need to decide on Cutler's fate. This shouldn't be a problem as I recall they hired Trestman in January after letting Lovie go. But adding in the need to hire GM and the fact that many of the likely candidates are still involved in the playoffs and I could see this taking a lot longer this time.
  12. In theory Accorsi gives them several top notch candidates to choose from so even if they pick the worst choice he's still very good.
  13. They also said they'd be open to hiring a HC before the GM if the "right guy" was found. Sorry, this is the same stupid management that got them where they are today. Fine, use Earnie to pick the right GM and have him pick the HC. I can live with that and we're better off regardless without Nerdman running things. But I'd really like it if our CEO knew the first thing about football. That would be nice.
  14. Bringing in a consultant to give Teddy advice isn't what I expected to hear. Accorsi might be a solid advisor but the same team of morons who picked Emery and Trestman are still the final deciders on this set of hires. THAT DOESN'T INSPIRE MUCH CONFIDENCE. I'd say this was all complete bullshit but I still love this team and hope for the best. But I'm not a fan of Phillips and think he needed to fall on his sword in some fashion. If he's honestly still involved in the football decisions of this team, we'll be having this same discussion again in a few years. God save us....
  15. I wouldn't welcome him in a coaching role... I guess because it's just been too long since he's done it.

    Next Year

In addition to home and away games against the NFC North which is pretty good now... Home Games: Cardinals, 49ers, Redskins, Broncos and Raiders Away Games: Rams, Seahawks, Buccaneers, Chiefs and Chargers.
  17. Guys, I think it's noteworthy that it seems like nobody "hates" Trestman. I think we're unified in believing it was time for him to go but there aren't any of the usual type of posts regarding his departure. I remember how much I hated Wanny at the end of his term and there were certainly Lovie haters when his time came. I guess it's mostly because we feel like he was a good guy who was in over his head and the venom belongs elsewhere, with those that put him in the role in the first place. Let's hope we don't have to fire our next coach for a LONG LONG time.
  18. Oh, they might try getting away with that but while most of the national press has grown weak over the years, our local sports guys are tough. I expect the follow-up to "Ted's role hasn't changed." to be WHY THE F$%# NOT!!! The best they can do is say they're changing his role and that the lines haven't been drawn yet. There's no way the guy running things, who made all of these hires, can get away unscathed here. If he does, this is all bullshit.
  19. If it's a press conference, they won't be allowed this luxury. No journalist of any value is going to leave that question unanswered. Phillips is clearly in the bloody water and the sharks will get him. I'm interested to hear how he answers the "You suck at your job, why are you still here?" question. Or they take the easy way out and don't take questions, just making a statement. That would be WEAK but I suppose it's possible.
  20. I've said the same thing Jason in another thread. He'd have been my first announcement. But I assume the Bears are simply going to say that all assistants under Trestman have also been notified of their termination. That's the professional way of doing it and it'll avoid them having to call someone out specifically. With that said, we all know that his performance was THE weakest link on the staff.
  21. Now if the old broad would just let us have the Honey Bears back!

    Salary Cap

Only Emery ever saw anything in Shea. Not sure Buddy Ryan in his prime could make something out of SMC.
  23. Or better yet: Ted has decided to pursue other interests.
