After their "leader" Urlacher set the tone it wouldn't surprise me if all aging former stars bitch like old ladies as they leave the city. Just another reason he had to go. His leadership was toxic to anyone outside his little circle. Oh, and Peanut is telling a different story so I guess he's different than your two examples. Both your examples, by the way, had lost tons of value just before being shown the door, much like #54.

Michael Jordan made a point of spitting on the Bulls on his way out of town. He was a much bigger star on a significantly less important franchise in Chicago. To this day he's not repaired that damage. Brian better start soon.
-
Problem is history shows he doesn't trade down for his reaches. He could likely get "his guy" and get something else to sweeten the pot. Long being the only exception to this as he'd have been gone before any later pick we may have gotten. This seems to be Emery's major "flaw".
-
He's a stupid SOB but a talent. Don't think we need him here given our WRs.
-
Which is why you acting like you know exactly what the Bears did in either case has made you look like a shithead all along. Glad you're finally coming around. Just because Url bitches like a scorned woman doesn't mean we're getting the truth out of him. And the FACT that literally nobody signed him is all anyone should need to know before they understood the Bears were in the right, although maybe not very nice. Hester still has value but he's one dimensional so not a fit for Trestman. End of story.

I agree but Allen is no spring chicken and we still have question marks about the defensive coaches overall. Not trying to rain on the parade but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here guys. We have to see how well these guys play together, scheme, etc. I'm happier than I was and Peppers had to go because of his contract but let's chill a bit. There's a lot of time to print Superbowl tickets after we see this D Line play a few snaps together.

Ha! Heat? I'd say we're generally civil but I can ramp that bitch up to 11 with almost no effort. His ego is so HUGE that even the slightest tweak and he goes off like a Roman Candle!

I like the old school idea.

Correct on both points. Hester has a brain the size of a grapenut. His instincts carried him throughout his career but he was never, EVER, going to be a WR at this level. Still, even with a brain that size, he's a card carrying member of Mensa compared to Jason.
-
There ain't nothing humble about Jason. It's pretty clear the Bears already thought his value was diminished by the rule change already approved. If they had any knowledge that this might be coming, it makes even more sense. And his value is clearly no more than the vet minimum in that case. Hell, I can take a knee for $800k a year! But Jason always thinks he knows better. LOL!
-
Oops. As to Bennett, there's no way he's a $2 mil a year guy, period. Not glad to see him go but if he's not willing to deal then SEE YA!
-
Yep. He's one of my all time favorites. Class guy, great player and did something better than I've ever seen done before at his position, cause turnovers. His games against Moss and Megatron are legendary. Glad he's back and hope last years health problems are gone for good.

My question is this: Is Houston just our new Alex Brown? Not that there was anything horribly wrong with AB but he's not a guy who will ever be brought up as one of the best Bears DE's either. They need to pair him with a real pass rusher or they won't be getting the QB pressure they need to get. I guess that could be Shea's specialty...
-
No question, I'm happy for him because of most of what's been written here by others. With that said, I'm going to go ahead and predict he crashes and burns in Lovie's offense. Not wishing it on him, I think he's a great guy and hope I'm wrong. But I think he caught lightning in a bottle last year and they had the weapons and offense to "make" him. We'll see...
-
Well I think we saw how all these one year signings ended up last year. I think Emery thinks he can just plug and play on the D side of the ball. I sure hope this isn't a sign of things to come. The results last season were dismal.
-
Good one.
-
I wasn't a big fan.

Ain't nobody touching that contract! Not even Lovie. I'm sure this is a preliminary step to cutting him or renegotiating. Cutting being significantly more likely.

Bears agree to term with Nate Collins & Jordan Palmer

I'm going to assume you meant that "douchebag" in only the kindest possible way. -

WTF? Where's all the McCown love we saw last season? This is nuts? Does everyone think Coach Nerdman can just turn any/every QB into a star in this offense? I'd sure like to see McCown back and I don't think he'd cost very much. But damn if there weren't dozens of folks here just itching to see McCown take over for Cutler. Where'd all those people go? If you think he's got what it takes to supplant Cutler you damn well better think he's got more to offer than Palmer! I agree on Collins. Makes perfect sense to bring him back. -
Precisely. And we don't know what parameters Hester's agent has put out there. Same thing goes for Urlacher back then. The players rely on experts to negotiate for them. The agents tell the Bears we think we're in this range. The Bears then say "OK, we're close enough to work with you" or "No thanks". In Urlacher's case they said "We're really miles apart, here's our best offer, take it or leave it." Apparently Urlacher's agent thought the Bears were bluffing and he could negotiate in the media and get more, they weren't and they cut him loose as soon as they heard from the agent. It wasn't a nice thing to do but they made it clear that they mean what they say.

People have supported their side of this, you just refuse to listen, as usual. Here's the other side, summarized for you so you don't have to make a big effort: * Kickoffs are generally going out of the endzone now. Making a specialist like Hester less valuable. * Therefore, it's best to have someone in that role who can also provide depth at WR, DB, etc. * Conjecture is he'll want more than the vet minimum due to his place in history. This may or may not be correct but could mean he's pricing himself out of the market. * The Bears already have a burner on the roster (forget his name but saw it posted here a week or two ago) and so they may have a younger body ready to go at this position. * Hester isn't what he once was and although he did have a good year last season, the expectation is he'll continue to slow down over time. If that happens or if the league ends up eliminating KO's his value is further dimished. I don't agree with all of that, it's just a summary of things that have already been said here that you obviously ignored with your comment about people not supporting their ideas with data. Quit being such a friggen tool.

Ha. This thread is going to draw flames from both the Hester and Urlacher defenders. Personally I was OK with the Urlacher parting but would've liked it to be handled better than it was. Hester I'd like back but at a fair price for a kick returner, whatever that might be. I still think he's got a few years left in his legs.
-
I think the case can be made the Hester has more left in the tank than Urlacher did so it's apples and oranges, regardless. But whatever, I'd like to see Devin back for a few more years because I think he's still effective and a weapon and if he's willing to take a market deal we should talk to him. Not sure why this has to be an argument.
