That's where we are. Without an interior presence in the D line, we're not going very far this year. We'll only beat inferior opponents. To be able to beat the Packers and others we've yet to face, we need to improve this aspect of the team. Given all the injuries we've taken there, I just don't know who can fill that role. Yeah, Cutler had a bad start to yet another game. But when the gave him Alshon, he hit him. When other receivers were open, he found them. Marshall was taken away. The O line gave up more QB pressure than I'd like to see too. But NO isn't a shit team and we should've expected that. But I'll go back to the topic of this post, there's ONE big problem on this team right now and I don't see how it gets addressed.

Good summary. Shitty game.

Ha. I want it on record that while I find his response classy, I also disagree with it profoundly. I don't want a coach who thinks a game against the Packers is the same as a game against the Jags. That's just stupid. I know they both count one W in the standings but if Ditka had one thing right it was his focus on controlling the division games and using that to get into the playoffs. There ARE rivalries in the NFL and there damn well ought to be. You can't take all of the emotion out of this game or we're all just robots. I think the game loses something whenever we get too "classy".

Overall he didn't have a bad game against Suh. The line played OK, considering.
-
The only difference between this game and the other three was the number of Cutler brain-farts. He hasn't played well until the 4th quarter all season. He dug the hole too deep yesterday. The D also didn't come up with many big plays. We're spoiled by a D we're used to seeing score. And Hester had another shit game. Game was close in the end only because Lions turned it down a notch and coasted home. Our D gets little to no QB pressure, we don't cover particularly well and in this game, Bush was running up the middle like our linebackers were sleeping. So yeah, Cutler lost the game for us by being an idiot but the rest of the team sucked pretty badly too. Now we'll see what kind of leader Trestman is. You don't know what someone's got in that regard until they face a little adversity.
-
Yep. Although he wasn't brought in from another team where he'd burned bridges and was roundly hated by everyone. He wasn't a punk piece of shit. He was rookie on a pretty damn good team and developed amazingly quickly. I'd like to have that developmental QB on this team and hope we draft one next year. Trestman can work his magic and we'll have Cutler's successor ready at some point. That ain't what we're talking about here, with Freeman, more than likely. In Freeman you have a guy making big bucks who thinks very highly of himself.

Well, I don't really see it that way. For one the Bears aren't a running back by committee team. So, we have one stud in Forte who does it all, most of the time. The Broncos rotate backs in all day long, the Packers have had RB's in and out all season due to injury. So obviously from that one position they'd have more opportunity to have more guys catching the ball. I'd like to see a fullback pass every now and again, they can be very effective. I have no idea if Fiammetta has good hands. A lot of his time is spent opening holes for Forte and being an insurance policy for our newly minted O Line. Once again, pretty easy to understand why he isn't in the mix. Bush is on the field, generally, for short yardage or to give Forte a break. In three games he hasn't caught a pass but that could just be because Forte is getting a huge share of the PT. It appears our two backup TE's have brick hands. I don't want Jay forcing the ball to them. He tried it once, guess what? So in short, I'm not concerned about our O throwing the ball only to 5 receivers thus far this year. Marshall has only led the team in receptions once. Forte once and Jeffrey once. In other words, we're taking what the D is giving us. Three different opponents, three different receptions leaders. All five have caught at least one ball in all of those games and in most cases (13 of 15) it's two or more. As of today, we aren't a team that goes to a four/five WR set, we don't have the horses. Over time we may develop some of the guys we have today for that or we'll draft or hire more talent going forward. Rome wasn't built in a day.

And Trestman: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,6633919.story Bears are class, Detroit is classless.
-
And Tillman responds with all class: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2013092...0101/309260018/ Detroit is a team full of douchebags.
-
Yeah, I'm sure it was the shrillness of this site's whiny crybabies that brought him around. Otherwise all the game plans would've been was passes to Marshall and punts.
-
He's got a shitty attitude. The black Cade McNown. I don't want him on my team.
-
I hope Long dives at Suh's knee and ends his season. This piece of shit doesn't belong in football.
-
I think he'll be back as a DC someday.

I can't bring myself to hate Lovie for one simple reason, I'm going to be 49 in December and I remember Wanny & Neil Armstrong, among others. And while Smith wasn't great, his teams were so much more fun to watch, went so much further and always played with class. I can't bash him because I know what a coach looks like who deserves to be bashed.

Ha. We must be the two cranky old guys on the board. We not only both chimed in, we both used bold and picked up on almost the same part of what was said. If I were the rest of the board I'd accuse the two of us of being the same guy. Only question is, are you the sock puppet or am I? On an unrelated note, I saw on WGN News over lunch it's already down in the 30's up there. How the hell does anyone live up there dude?
-
I agree. And many of his free agent picks and "addition by subtraction" decisions have been solid too. Agree again. But your point in bold is exactly why I said what I said. Let's move on and not look back but if we do, let's discuss the past with facts as we know them, not conjecture. It's fine to play a guessing game about things in the future since there isn't any means of knowing anything for certain. So when someone says they blame Lovie for a pick Emery made, I had to say my piece. I'm not going to be Lovie's big defender here but think there was a lot to enjoy on this team while he was in charge too, as you mention above. To say you're happy Lovie is gone is fine, to say you're happy he's gone because he drafted Hardin and McClellin, quite another thing.
-
Dude, Tillman could end up a safety this year! I'm all for anything that keeps Peanut playing.
-
I simply don't see how anyone can blame either Hardin or McClellin on Lovie. When Shea was drafted everyone said "Emery must be drafting for the next coach because he doesn't fit this D." Now all of a sudden he's a Lovie pick? I don't care who the HC is, the GM makes the call and he went with both players. I think we're all in agreement that neither looks like they have a glorious future. I'm not giving up on McClellin but he hasn't proven anything to me as of yet. So, to summarize, let's just drop the Lovie bashing on things he doesn't likely deserve bashing for. There are plenty of legit reasons Lovie could be hammered, let's keep this site fact-based.

Looks like the coaches agreed with you. They just benched Freeman. Starting that kid from NC State, Glennon, this week.
-
Didn't you just contradict yourself, one line to the next? If our D Line is 75% crap, how can we only need a FS/SS to complete the process of becoming elite?
-
Hard to say for sure since they've played a pretty weak schedule. With that said, here are their stats: Week 1 @BUF 2 fumbles recovered 286 total yards Week 2 NYJ 4.0 sacks, 10 total points allowed 3 interceptions 1 fumble recovered 318 total yards Week 3 TAM 3.0 sacks 3 total points allowed 1 interception 323 total yards Obviously the Bears have had better turnover stats than those (11 total thus far) but they've given up 1,149 yards to 927 for the Pats. And the Bears haven't exactly played offensive juggernauts either.
-
I refuse to give him a grade until I get more data. If I had to give him a grade right now it would be I (incomplete). His draft last year doesn't look much better than it did at the start of the season with Jeffrey being the only apparent keeper in the bunch. Hardin was a known injury risk and whaddayaknow? Shea might still improve but he's never going to be a first round value. This year's draft is still to early to evaluate but clearly looks better than last year's. I obviously like some of the free agency moves he's made and the Trestman pick was gutsy and has certainly panned out so far.

Getting rid of your cousin has really paid off!
