Very well said. And in the modern NFL, QB is a much more coveted position than RB.

I agree, we need to work on this. And perhaps it's an opportunity for Cutler to ream a WR or two again. Tell them what they're supposed to do if the WR's coach isn't making the point clear enough. Warner is a very good QB with great WR's. They played the Packers this weekend and they're not known for having a very good secondary. I don't know the details of every play in that game but I do know that Warner completed 62% of his passes while Cutler completed 72% of his. Somebody is getting open guys! And it was while the Denver front was blitzing on every freaking down. You have to get rid of the ball fast in those situations and they aren't going to WR's, usually, unless you've got a slant or an out called. Maybe it's that our Wr's aren't reading the blitz very well or that the plays called weren't allowing for adjustments. I don't know, you don't know and Terra doesn't either. I want to see Hester hit in stride. I want to see slants that hit the mark and don't allow the DB to jump the route. I actually, believe it or not, want to see the bubble screen to Hester. It was all we used to call and now I can't recall it being used at all. I also want to see how much more open things are when we establish a sound running attack. We didn't do that against Denver. Things tend to open up a little when you've got the ground game working. Oh, and I'd like to see us run a RB screen play ala Dorsett on the Cowboys or Levens on the Packers. It kills me that in my entire life I've never seen the Bears use this play consistently. With a good QB now, there's no excuse! Hell, old man Favre ran a great one last night and he's been with the Vikings for less than two weeks! My hope is that all of the things I mention above in my last two paragraphs are in the playbook for week one and we're holding them back. If so, you'll be amazed at how freaking open Bennett will be on some of his routes. You hit Hester deep a few times, you'll be amazed at how big a cushion he's given by corners. So, let's let this play out a tad before we start declaring that the Bears will lose to Green Bay in Week 1. If the things I mention above aren't in the gameplan, that's not our WR's fault, that's Turner's fault. And he should be fired for wasting our talented QB. I want to see how things transpire before I call for his head but he's got no excuses anymore.

The Denver Post reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (finger) is in danger of missing the team's Week 1 game. According to two league sources, Orton's finger was not fractured during the team's last preseason game, but Orton did suffer an open dislocation of the right knuckle, which would explain the blood dripping from his finger and the excruciating pain he endured as the dislocated finger was popped back into place.

I'm not saying you're totally wrong. Or that he is. But he doesn't say it the same way you did either. His comments are often very clearly meant to piss off members of this board. I ignore most of his posts these days. That said, I think our receivers are still developing. I've always said I'm not sure Hester will ever get there. I hope he does but the kid isn't very sharp. Physical skills are only part of that position. Your point about Denver blitzing can actually be taken the other way though. With shorter time frames in which to work, our WR's have to find holes more quickly. Those are often tighter throws for the QB since the routes are shorter, nearer to the LB's and other congestion. I recall lots of "open" receivers and I recall Cutler overthrowing one, specifically, and another where Hester misjudged the ball. These are things I think they can improve on and will. I'd like to see more slants. Turner may be shellshocked because those passes seemed to get picked off more often than not with Grossman and Orton. If they're not throw accurately they tend to bounce off receivers and land in the hands of safeties. Cutler has that level of accuracy. And I've actually been impressed with the hands our receivers have dispalyed thus far. It goes with better throws, I suppose, but these guys are hanging onto the ball really well. So, I guess what I'm saying is, if you're going to talk about the negative side, at least give them credit for what they've done well too. We completed 21 passes against Denver and they weren't all tight throws. That's BS.

Why does anyone take anything TerraTor says as meaningful? I don't see anyone in a state of "panic". Terra just says things to piss the other members of this board off. If you read his comments in that light, you'll find it easy to just laugh them off and move on. By the way, I agree with you on everything else you said above, other than the "panic" part. As to panic, I'm a lot more worried about our D secondary than anything else on this team.

Great stuff, man. I'd like to add: 1.) Yesterday afternoon on ESPN Radio I heard someone mentioning that the owner is now saying he may have actually received a call back from Jay and he forgot about it. They're saying the owner is old and his memory isn't that good. HOLY SHIT! To basically get so many people pissed off at Jay and then turn around and say "my bad" after the fact! I'd be absolutely furious at ownership here if that happened. 2.) Jay is young. He's still playing his rookie contract and has basically just gotten to the point where he's a really valuable player. For them to bring in a completely inexperienced coach, have him pursue another QB behind the scenes and then lie to Cutler about it... They got exactly what they deserved. We benefitted because of their idiotic handling of the coaching and personnel side of their business. Sure, most organizations hate giving up two #1's but I was 100% behind the move then and I'm even more happy about it now. 3.) You're 100% right that they're projecting their anger onto Jay. They know they got their pockets picked on this deal and they're trying to not look like fools. And the fans have bought into it at least thus far. But based on the comments posted from the Denver boards, that facade is breaking down. 4.) Practicing the halfback pass in a preseason game is a good move, IMO.

Bears are "winning" the poll 89% to 11% with over 80,000 votes. LOL!

BTW, I'm waiting for NFO's reply to this thread. When I post a one liner he'll give me 47 paragraphs. There may not be enough bandwidth on the internet for what's coming.

Thanks for the details. I'll need to take a pass as the draft starts while I'm still coaching my son in pee wee football. I think I figure out what I was doing wrong... I was entering the league name rather than the code. Doh!

LT - Not sure I can join but I went to click the link you provided and it's giving an error message. I just wanted to see the draft timing and rules before I committed. Anyway, it isn't working with the login credentials you gave above either.

OK, I know Cutler disappointed a lot of these fans but... Grow the f*ck up people. It wasn't just the dipshits in the stands either! The Broncos were playing this game like it was their Superbowl! Dancing around like a bunch of hopped-up leprechauns on crack with every tackle. Hey dillhole, your job is to tackle! Get over yourself! Maybe it's the lack of oxygen to the brain... Does the Broncos new head coach look like a high school kid or what? He'll either be great for them for the next 50 years or he's in WAY over his head! Did one of the goal posts look crooked to you? I swear one of them looked like it needed a level put on it! In the war of "shut up, no you shut up!"... Cutler won. Our O Line is better than this. I know they are. But damn. And it wasn't just pressure on the QB. Forte only averaged 2.3 yards per carry. Denver's D has historically sucked donkey balls so this is a bit unnerving. Knox made the team last night. And probably so did Davis and Peterson. I can't see them cutting the stuttering little man after his performance last night and Davis played well on teams. Even if he can't hang onto the ball as a WR, he'll probably be here on opening day. Hester's return gave me a semi... His fair catch earlier, however, was worthy of the death penalty. Man, this kid is stupid. Can we just play with 4 TE's and forget about keeping ANY WR's? Our starting D was still basically in the game when Brandstater did his John Elway impersonation. Anyone else concerned? Briggs is still an animal. I'm damn glad we were able to keep him despite his dick moves of the past. All is forgiven! If Peanut isn't back for opening day, and they aren't saying shit at Halas Hall to my knowledge, we better find a corner who can actually play this game. Rodgers will pick us apart. Why does Cutler always have a "smack me" look on his face? I swear to god, when they showed Ron Turner in the booth upstairs, he had a BIG smile on his face. Not surprising. I see a bunch of "Orton is Dink and Dunk" type posts here... Sorry gang, the guy can and did hit the deep ball for us a number of times last year. The Bears couldn't just play for the short pass and use press coverage all the time. That said, they should actually try press coverage every once in a WHILE! Was Ogun carrying a blade of some sort? How the heck does Orton's hand hit his and split in two? Maybe Kyle should talk to Moises Alou about pissing on his hands to toughen them up. Did Denver install an electron magnet at the 1 yard line and then put iron in the footballs for their punt team? MY GOD! I swear we were starting inside the 5 almost every possession. Alex Brown was robbed and the NFL owes him a written apology for that penalty call. That ref ought to lose his job! Was there a Brandon Lloyd sighting last night? He still sucks, regardless. Anybody who drafts WR's from Denver this year in fantasy football expecting anywhere near the same numbers as last season is either high or delusional. Although, I may actually consider drafting a Denver RB this year for the first time in a LONG while. Shannahan was always screwing the fantasy guys with his secretive BS on RB's. I still hate that guy. But Denver should've never fired him. That organization has come unglued since his departure. WTF was all that talk about the Patriots during a BEARS/BRONCOS game? Hey idiots, we couldn't care less about who you signed to do color commentary during the season. Have him talk about the game in front of him, not the Pats! Dumervil is an appropriately named dickhead given he lives in Denver. Sorry, I'm back to where I started but those little town fans all wetting themselves over Cutler... They reminded me of pathetic Packers fans!

Rodgers looked good but they have no running game to speak of. We need to get an early lead and keep the pressure on Rodgers. We'll have the advantage of them not being 100% with their new defense but they'll have the advantage of us having very little film on it. However, it looks pretty vanilla 3-4 at this point and the talent they have on D isn't perfectly suited for playing the 3-4. They have excellent WR's so it'll be important to have as many healthy corners back by then as possible. Any word on Nut?

The story is apparently from OTA's. Read the bigger snip from the article above. And he has a confirming quote from Ron Turner. I think it happened and... I THINK IT'S GREAT. I want an asshole at QB as long as he gets results and rewards guys for accomplishments. Not Cade McNown who was just an asshole, but a real leader who understand the carrot and the stick.

Article for those who don't think Davis should make the roster

If we only keep 5, which rookie gets the axe? I'd say Knox has shown more than Iglesias thus far. -

I hear the Packers are looking at him.

If Bennett does that, Hester will only have 50ish catches but they'll all be deeper strikes. It's all good. Now we just have to see it happen on opening night.

Article for those who don't think Davis should make the roster

I agree and disagree here. Having a better QB may make everyone better. And thus, if Davis isn't getting the reps with him he won't have the opportunity to prove it. Comparing Davis's history with Rex and Kyle to other WR's playing with Jay isn't fair to him and may yield inaccurate results. And here I completely agree. Perhaps the coaches are seeing enough of Davis in practice to know what they need to know. But they're seeing what the young guys produce under fire. WR is a position you really need to learn how to develop, as a team. Like QB. And the Bears have historically been horrible at it. I don't recall a drafted QB other than McMahon that was worth a shit and I don't think they really "developed" him. He was what he was. T'zak and Harbaugh weren't too bad but we're still back in the Ditka era and I wouldn't say they grew much from when they were first drafted, particularly T'zak. At WR we've developed ONE that I can recall... Berrian. OK, maybe throw in Booker too. Other guys have had one career year at most and then turned to shit. The way to develop WR's is to have a good QB (and we stole one from Denver) and then work with the younger talent until they get it. Lots of times this can take 3 or 4 years, even on excellent teams. The idea being that you rotate out older guys and replace them with your younger studs as they get ready. Davis has likely already hit his ceiling. I'd take the devil I don't know in this particular case unless he gives me a reason not to. Or the competition from the younger guys simply isn't that strong. -
Amen to that. But taking Favre and the Queens down at the same time is like having a French Silk pie covered in Rocky Road Ice Cream and chocolate sauce. It's almost too much "good stuff" as the commercial says. I guess the cherry on top of the sundae would be if Favre beats the Packers twice and gives us the division in doing so.

Rex was a gunslinger in a dress. His problem was he lost his swagger. Cutler doesn't look like a guy who will let a few bad plays get to him. Not to mention, as you said, Cutler's skills are better.
-
I agree with you that Pompei's logic is flawed. Comparing Manning's third season the Cutlers provides evidence that they're similar statistically as far as picks at this stage of their careers. That said, my own eyes tell me Jay is a bit careless with the ball and I think his attitude toward his abilities will make it tough for him to ever not be careless. In a way, this is Brett Favre's mentality too. He'll drive you crazy with the bonehead throw but then squeeze one in where nobody thought possible. Manning isn't that way. He's much more cerebral in his approach to the game. Any comparison to Brady is simply dumb. So with Cutler we'll always have a guy we know can win us a game but he'll also have frustrating plays/games as well. The term gunslinger gets thrown around a lot and I hate it, but Cutler is much more Favre than he is Manning/Brady.
