Power Rankings (National Media Bandwagon hopping begins)
Alaskan Grizzly replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
I'm with you. It certainly feels great to see our team do as well as it has but we have to take it with a grain of salt. Most of us here have been fans long enough to know that one or two games don't necessarily make for an overall successful season. We need to see measured and sustained success to know that it'll stick. Otherwise we find ourselves looking at players like Darnold, Watson, Mayfield or even Mahomes and declaring the Jets, Texans, Browns and KC all turned around and having equal shots at winning the Super Bowl. One thing we do know is that our defense has made measured and progressive improvement in each of the years Fangio has been in the lead. And this despite not having a player named Mack on the team. He just made a very good defense, exceptional. I think our offense is decent, but until we see sustained and constant positive growth we can't declare it great. -

Not one game does a career make. I think for the "Nelly Negatives to jump on board" you'd need to see measured and sustained progress. Similar to how Cutler would play lights out in one game then stink it up the next. With Trubisky its fair to say this last game could be a measure of things to come, or not. But we certainly have increased optimism because he can play that good, even if it was against the worst rated pass defense. -
I saw him flash by in one play and commented on it during the game thread. I think others thought I was talking about Chase Daniel but compared this Daniels to Kush and from what I saw, Daniels looked good. Better than Kush for sure. He's hard to miss, a massive presence when in the lineup.

Way to represent! I’d guess the fans are sticking around? Seems awfully quiet from here. -

For me Kevin Toliver will be the one to watch. We know the potency for TB is their passing game right now. And with Amukamura out, it looks as though the UDFA out of LSU is up. Some say he has a similar style of play to Peanut. Wonder why that is? ? I suspect he’ll get help over the top from Jackson. -
Depends on what you’re talking about; specifics or generalities? I’ll go with the latter and qualify it by he (Wims) satisfies the eye test. Below are their (Wims and Ridley) draft prospect comparisons. And even with there being some pretty close similarities there are some differences too, althoughbeit small. I personally prefer the bigger wideouts. Wims is bigger at 6’3” / 215#. And although Ridley has a slight edge in the 40 and cone drill Wims out performed Ridley on both the vertical and broad jumps. To answer your question, yes I believe Wims could beat Ridley...if given the chance. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/javon-wims?id=32462018-0002-5600-889e-860db0dfb6ed https://www.nfl.com/prospects/calvin-ridley?id=32462018-0002-5600-1177-bcdc902b08a4 and lastly, here’s an article that directly compares the two late in the season last year. I give an edge to Ridley only because he had more time in his system where Wims was a JuCo transfer the year prior. https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/javon-wims-vs-calvin-ridley-star-will-steal-show-monday-night/

FWIW I hope that Miller proves to be something. I was (am) a fan of Ridley’s and to be honest see a lot of simularities between he and Wims. Ultimatley though Ridley ended up in a pretty sweet spot. Playing alongside and learning from co-Bama grad Julio Jones. And having Matt Ryan throwing to him.

No, there were rumors that Pace had been trying to get back late in the 1st round to get Ridley...as cited from "The Chicago Sports Column": "He (Pace) reportedly was trying to trade back into round one on Thursday to draft Alabama receiver Calvin Ridley. So his pursuit of Miller shouldn’t have been too surprising." https://chicagosportscolumn.com/bears/ryan-pace-anthony-miller-bears/ Wouldn't have affected at all the team drafting Smith.
-
It’s simple, it’s time for White to contribute - or he gone. AND time to get Wyms out there. In other news, Calvin Ridley (the WR that Pace allegedly was looking at instead of Miller) has gotten 11 Rec for 210 yds and scored 4 TDs.

Well based on what AZ said earlier with regards to what he’s seen on other boards, several non-experts (aka fans) are losing patience with Trubisky. That is not a unique issue based on a few articles floating around that I’ve seen. Most of the posters here are exhibiting the optimism and faith (misguided or no) and believe Trubisky will eventually trend in the right direction.

This whole 'waiting for Trubisky to develop' is a loaded proposition. We don't really have a clue what that will be due to not having much to go on from his collegiate career, aside from his senior year and what he did in HS. As I pointed out before even Peyton stumbled out of the blocks when he started with the NFL. But I think we can all agree that his collegiate career was rather impressive. Another train of thought would have been to have had him sit and wait while he gets more opportunity to learn the offense. Would've Daniel been more effective and had us at 2-1 at this point? No one can say. But realistically neither has Trubisky. Again its our D that has kept the team in the thick of things so far. My question to those that want to go the 'wait and see' approach. How long do you give him? 8 games, 16 games, 2 seasons, 3 seasons?
-
When I saw this I assumed concussion (he’s had plenty). Turns out it was a nagging knee injury from a few weeks ago...or so they say. Nevertheless, with all the years he’s been playing I don’t know what he was thinking trying to tackle a huge TE like that up high. ?
-
Admittedly I would be one of those that think Daniels could run the offense better than Trubisky ... right now. And that opinion would solely be based on 1) he (Daniels) looked effective in the pre-season and 2) He (Daniels) has had experience in this style offense. A large part of my feeling about this is also being disappointed in Nagy not getting Trubisky more experience playing in the pre-season. To me that may (or may not) have helped clean up some of what we’re seeing. But as they say; ‘coulda, shoulda, didnt’. I understand that Trubisky is in place for better or worse. And barring a cataclysmic meltdown by him for which even the D can’t recover from, I’m ok with it. Which brings me to the last bit... This is absolutely a great idea. I hope Nagy uses it.

And here are Trubisky’s passes from last weeks game:

AZ, as unfair as it may seem; when you're picked #2 overall in the 1st round a lot of comparisons and expectations will be made. I personally think it worthy given that fact alone. I'm not sure I've seen anyone here say Trubisky is the 'worst QB' in the league. Most of the 'experts' in the NFL rank him somewhere in the middle. Make no mistake, the two factors that kept the Bears in the game last week against Arizona were the defense and Arizona. Trubisky did some to get the ball moving but at best I think we can call him a potentially solid game manager. Except for the turnovers. Those alone could kill us. Sure we can blame Kyle Long for knocking the ball out of his hand to cause a fumble or Sims for not being in the place where Trub threw the ball (short - resulting in INT) but the fact is, Trubisky has been directly involved in most of the Bears turnovers to this point. If he can clean that up and his long game, we might have something. Until then we don't really know what he's capable of. On the lighter side; and pardon my comparisons, but Peyton Manning started his rookie season for Indy in 1998 and despite throwing 26 TDs to 28 INTs with a 71.2 passer rating that year, he had a pretty successful career overall. There's still hope for Mitchell. Speaking of TB, I'm intrigued too by what lies ahead. Will it be Fitzpatrick or Winston? McCoy (OC in AZ) called a pretty successful game plan to keep the Bear's D at bay for most of the first half of the game. Will Koetter do the same?

There were two 'roughing the passing calls' that were nearly back to back. The first one was the result of the player being blocked into or rolling towards Trubisky while he stepped back (if I recall correctly). The second is the one that you refer to where yes, the defender was clearly late on his hit. -
From the "TV" perspective, it was pretty obvious you guys (the Bears fans) were there. Whenever they showed shots of the crowd it would seem there were more blue than red jerseys in the crowd. And the loudness? Well that confused both me and my wife a few times. I kept having to look at the field or scoreboard to remind myself that the team was in Arizona and not in Chicago. Pretty impressive. Again from the TV perspective, a fair number of the mid to long range passes looked way and above the receiver's heads. This is consistent with what we saw in games 1 and 2. Perhaps Gabriel isn't as fast as we'd hoped or Robinson as tall as he appears. But in one example, Trubisky was supposed to be throwing a back shoulder fade to Robinson in the end zone but it sailed about 5-10 feet above him. This by itself wouldn't have been an issue but given we've seen this type play already, and consistently, its concerning. You make light of this below in your own observations, among others. From your perspective, how did White look? I could see that he was on the field for many of the plays but its like Trubisky never once looked at him. Is he not getting open or Trubisky just not getting his progressions? Yes...he (Kush) looked like hot garbage. Might be time to seriously consider getting Daniels in somehow (provided he's as good as advertised). Either he at Guard or Center and Whitehair in wherever they don't put him. Yes its nice to see the team where it is. If they can keep 'stacking wins' then things will be just fine. Could they contend deep into the playoffs right now? No. But there's still a lot of season left and 2-1 is a heck of a lot better than 0-3.

Ultimately Arizona kept Chicago in the game. They had some bad calls (one roughing the passer and unsportsmanlike hit on Gabriel) etc. that helped the Bears’ cause. I fear that if Rosen had started the game this wouldn’t have turned out the same. McCoy did call a good game on the offense side of things. He was able to game plan for Mack pretty effectively. Bradford just wasn’t able to produce late in the game. I think the pressure started to affect him. But....we won and that’s really all that matters. ?? -
