  1. Saw that too and agree to the speculation of him trying out coaching first. And if it were a favorable situation. Only flaw in my theory is there is heavy speculation of Eli going to Jacksonville. I could see that with Coughlin in play.
  2. *edit: and since you mentioned it and evidently missed it in the earlier post (according to Wikipedia); “During his senior year, Cutler connected on 122 of 202 passes (60.4%) for 2,252 yards with 31 touchdowns...” So no he didn’t have to “run first” Compare him to others if you want, or don’t. Cam Newton, Randall Cunningham, Steve Young...I’m sure you’ll find consistency. I know you’re a proponent of Cutlers for whatever reason but he proved he could not make it in the NFL, not to the elite level. If we needed anymore validation it was evident at his last gasp effort with Miami. And that was with a coach sensitive to his limited skills. Brian Billick predicted correctly (IMHO) that Cutler and Jeff George had similar traits and similar “luck”. Either way, neither played to their potential. Bottom line, they failed.
  3. You’re telling me he wasn’t a scrambling QB? According to Wikipedia (who pulled the info from the Denver Broncos website) while in High School and: “during his senior year, Cutler connected on 122 of 202 passes (60.4%) for 2,252 yards with 31 touchdowns, while rushing 65 times for 493 yards with 11 touchdowns.” Because I was curious; I randomly looked for a known rushing QB to see how he compares while also in HS. Michael Vick attended Warwick HS in New Port News VA where he started for three years and “passed for 4,846 yards with 43 touchdowns. He added 1,048 yards and 18 scores on the ground.” 1,048 yards over three years avearges out to just under 350 yard per year. And you’re still convinced Cutler wasn’t a rushing minded QB? And to further our discussion about WR futility; in their history the Bears have had only 15 times where receivers went over 1,000 yards. Four of those times were between Marshall and Jeffery in the years 2012-14. (One of those year’s was while Mike Tice was OC I might add). Yes it doesn’t help my argument about how well Cutler can play when he wants to but it shows that we can have decent WRs if chosen wisely. But where are Jeffery and Marshall now? Not playing for Chicago. Who was GM when both were let go? More importantly, what has he done to ‘help Trubisky’ as you’ve asked before?
  4. Oh I get the levity of the situation. Which is why I can’t help but laugh at the suggestion to keep him. So you, and others, are ok with someone who is only providing verbal support and occupying a roster spot on a team that clearly needs all the people it can to contribute to winning? But actually play? How long are you wanting him on the sidelines doing impersonations for? 1 year, 2 years?
  5. I’m with you. His resume speaks for itself. Pace’s? Not so much. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised that if Fox ends up in NY they are in the playoffs in short order. Their defense has a good number of playmakers on it (even though Apple is dubbed a “cancer” by Collins). And hey, Fox has worked with Eli’s big brother so there is that. Saw some rumors where Peyton is interested in coaching. Maybe he’d like to help little bro out and join Fox’s staff?
  6. Because he can do an impersonation of John Gruden? Hell to the no. I think ‘Keoni’ said it best: “All 10 is thinking “yeah you get comfy on the sideline you washed up butt fumbling dope”
  7. I know you’re convinced that Jay could not produce because he was forced to run all the time due to (in your opinion) poor Oline play. But I’ll remind you that he was a scrambler at Vanderbilt as he was when he went to Denver. And now in Miami, where he is less inclined to scramble, he still makes the same mistakes.
  8. One thing you can be counted on is your total disregard for reading comprehension. I know who you’re talking about when you say ‘hes’ gone’ but please show me where I was specifically referencing Cutler. In fact I was regarding the very fact that for some reason our team can’t seem to find a suitable and true franchise worthy QB. Just so happens that in the same 10 year span Jason was referring to we saw 13 different QBs start. There’s a hell of a lot more that have come and gone since Jim McMahon was our QB. And to go one step further, and remain focused on skill players, how many successful WRs has our team had? Or is it true what Mushin Muhammad said that Chicago is “...where WRs go to die.”?
  9. “They” tried and failed eh? And how long do you give Pace to “figure it out”? Since he’s been GM he’s drafted; Grasu, Fabuluje, Whitehair and Morgan (that’s three draft cycles) and signed Compton, Sowell, Boggs, Larsen, Will Montgomery, Sitton, Ducasse, and Massie as FAs during that same three year span. How many of those OLmen are contributing today?
  10. I’m concerned due to the fact that his contract year he seems to have suddenly figured it out. Once signed what’s to say he doesn’t regress and start the pout-athon he seemed to be following for most of his career? Is there some sort of incentive laden deal they can tie in to make sure he keeps producing as he should? With the potential loss of Fangio and a new scheme I could see Fuller easily following the path of least resistance.
  11. As you know I concentrate more on the skill positions and in this case specifically the QB spot. In that same timeframe (2007-present) there have been 13 QBs that started for the team. Is that due to poor oline play or poor QB selection and production?
  12. Two things: not sure that Trubisky is the ‘savior’... not yet anyhow. Still probably don’t need to draft a Qb in the first few rounds though. Since this is a QB heavy draft upcoming; might not be a bad idea to get one in the 6th or 7th round. Pace loves D2 players so maybe there’s one to be found there (think Wentz or Flacco without all the hype). And I’d bet GB is thinking of drafting a QB sooner than later. Hundley looks like hot garbage and Rodgers will be coming back from an injury to his throwing shoulder...and he’ll be 35 next year. In other news; I’m seeing several teams are saying Rodgers should be released due to the Packers violating some obscure IR rule. Weird... https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/report-t...-about-ir-move/
  13. Glennon is a pure pocket passer. Needs a strong solid oline to work...and reliable receivers. I think with the mix of second tier WRs and unpredictable oline play, Glennon was doomed from the get-go. Great locker room presence like you said. No doubt. I was chuckling when I heard the announcers today say that Trubisky resembled Rodgers. I actually had thought the same thing a few weeks ago. He is athletic and mobile where he can throw on the run. But I’ve also seen some Cutler like moves too - but feel that could work itself out in an off season or two. I don’t think those mistakes are a career type thing like they were for Cutler. If it is, it’s way too early to tell right now.
  14. One thing Trubisky needs to work on is his Cutler-like sloppiness. Today he’s thrown a few over the head passes from his back foot and that lob into Garret’s hands was pure garbage. Thankfully Cleveland is Cleveland and they can’t get out of their own way.
  15. Gotta say, as much as I don’t like Pace, seems he may have found a nice safety tandem in Amos and Jackson. Amos is really developing into a true SS and Jackson looks to have that coverage-rangy ability needed at FS.
  16. The oline is a mess. No Sitton, no Long, no Compton, Sowell at Guard and Whitehair playing at Guard with Grasu at Center. ?
  17. Good thought. I’m pretty sure Wright will be on the team next year...or at least should be. When I see Gordon play I see a lot of Megatron in him. Similar build and playing style.
  18. I miss the old argumentative Jason...lol (not really). Ok. I’d be down with that but I still would like to see what he can do at Illinois. Even though he’s in the Big 10 where the beloved Huskers play. But you’re right; both he and Fox (I believe) have that true old school ‘rah-rah’ coaching ability.
  19. Would Josh Gordon be worthy to pursue in the off season? Sure is a nice looking WR...when he’s sober.
  20. Apparently there are rumors that Captain Jack Del Rio is in jeapordy of losing his job. Talk about a sweet deal to walk into if that be the case. They have star quality players all over the place if they can just manage to keep Carr healthy. And no I’m not suggesting Del Rio become the next HC, just interesting should someone like Toub be considered. He could make a name for himself with a team already primed like the Raiders.
  21. “...happened to fall....”. Are you kidding? Of the nine years Lovie was coach they only went below .500 three times and one was his first year with the team. He managed to get the team to the Super Bowl with the likes of Rex Grossman and nearly once more with f*#king Jay Cutler. An argument could be made that he was turning the Bucs around until they thought they needed Koetter instead. Yeah, how’s that work out for them? Lovie didn’t happen to fall into anything. Being ‘good enough’ for nine years is a far cry from where things have been since. I don’t know how you can conceivably draw a conclusion that Trestmans failure was due to what Lovie left him. Lest I remind you only one year prior, Lovies last, the team was 10-6.
  22. I think Adam was referring to the recent stat that showed Fox had a worse losing record (in his tenure as Bears HC) as did Abe Gibron. Who before that was the worst. To me though the product of a win loss record and ability to coach are different especially when you compare someone like Fox and Gibron. Fox has ‘been there, done that’ with other teams, Abe had not. I realize that some will still insist that the game has passed Fox by but I don’t buy it. I’m still of the opinion there is something higher up that needs to change (Pace). I wouldn’t mind seeing Toub get a shot at it but I still harbor concerns for our team’s overall performance for the next few years and potentially effecting Toubs reputation because of Pace.
  23. Peyton would be an intriguing choice. If he were to try out coaching I could see him in Denver for some reason. And wouldn’t it be weird if Eli ended up there as the QB? I’m going to go out on a limb and say Fox is back next year.
  24. Speaking of non-fan faves; Kyle Fuller. I really wish that guy could string together more consistency. It seems as though this year was by far one of his best but he still needs to do his ‘best’ in all the games he plays, not just a few of them.
  25. Ha... if anyone was snubbed on this team it was Hicks (and probably Howard). But yeah Amos has had a pretty solid year. More good things to come from he and Jackson I’m sure.
