Generally speaking, I'm one of those (of course you knew that). However, I'd qualify it by saying when it comes to drafting you should focus on skill players earlier in the draft. To me, players like good and established linemen can be found in FA. That being said; with our current team and it's makeup (Trubisky), we need a great LT and RT. Right now the best option probably would be through the early rounds of the draft. Where I think getting one or two WRs through FA would be better.

Not sure if this was worthy of its own string so I put it here. After seeing parts of last nights game between the Rams and 9ers I think the Bears need to follow the model the Rams are using. That being get Trubisky in as soon as possible and get him reps like they eventually did with Goff last year. Although he looked a little "overwhelmed" last year Goff looks pretty confident whether it be roll outs or standing in the pocket looking at his options. Continuing with the model they set, the Bears would need to then go out and pay for at least two solid FA WRs (like Robert Woods and Sammy Watkins) and draft a high caliber WR like Cooper Kupp (could Gentry be him?) then I think things will fall into place. Again the key is how well Trubisky plays and won't know that until he actually does. By the way, if Garçon becomes a FA in the near future, the Bears need him.

Not really knowing what all goes into QBR, I'm going to assume what's helped him are the lack of turnovers and how many overall TDs he's been directly responsible for. Like AZ pointed out Watson's average yards per throw are minimal. In other words not a lot of 20+ yd throws. I don't think he's actually thrown for a total of more than 200 yards in a game yet where 300 per game seems the norm. At any rate, he's still doing 'as advertised' so far. Hope that Trubisky does as well if not better when it's his turn.
-
Yep. You are absolutely right. The only other one i see promise out of the current active WRs is Deonte Thompson...when he plays with Trubisky.
-
Yeah, I saw a lot of the same things you did. I especially don't (didn't) like how he carries the ball so far away from his body. And there were a few close calls but again, majority of his reads were good. Wasn't seeing the 'overwhelming' factor. One thing I did notice is that he's been sacked a total of four(?) times already? So the fact he's adjusting with regular pressure helps too. But like AZ said; once Trubisky starts his scheme will appear pretty similar. That is until he gets more comfortable and confident. And in that context he described Trubisky will be overwhelmed. If that's what meant in regards to Watson then I understand. So far though he (Watson) seems to be handling the pressure. In time I hope (and expect) Trubisky will too.

I'm still not seeing where you're getting this 'overwhelmed' idea from. To me that would indicate someone with happy feet and running more than passing. In looking at highlights of specifically Watson in last week's game I don't see either. Granted his early throws were a bit off but he was clearly looking for targets and moving around as necessary. To me he doesn't seem all that different from Russell Wilson who is successful in being mobile and passing as necessary. This 'one read and run' concept with Watson simply isn't accurate. I would agree to some level about this. The fact is both Kizer and Watson are 'playing in the NFL' currently, "ready" or not. But really how does one measure a QB "ready" to play? Was Manning "ready" when he started in Indy? Or Luck? Or how about Brady when he was drafted in the 6th round? He didn't start until Bledsoe went down a few weeks into the season. Hell even the great (ugh) Favre wasn't ready when Atlanta drafted him. Nothing but experience actually playing the game will make you ready to play. Coming in from college and being instantly ready is nearly impossible as a QB.
-
Not surprised at all about Massie. My untrained eye can see him getting beat or near beat in most downs, especially on passing downs. He's usually the first one there to pick up the QB after being sacked. It is confounding why Whitehair is doing so bad. But as you and the article pointed out it must have to do Longs absence and now Sitton after his injury last week. >>Side note: after Sitton went down they shifted Whitehair over and put Grasu in at Center. I wasn't paying that close attention but did they show any improvement there? Aside from Glennons play this is predominately (supposed to be) a zone style offense which requires mobile linemen, especially in the interior. Jordan looks lackluster and if not for Cohen's shortness, he'd probably be less known. So far most of the offense looks stuck in idle.

Their stats are relatively similar through the pre-season. Trubisky had the overall edge in passing with 3 TDs but Watson as the overall in rushing with 2 TDs. Neither had any turnovers (and Watson still doesn't have any in the regular season). Whether or not those are 'equalized' based on pre-season stats is tough because neither really started against a complete defense during that time. The true test will be once both are playing deep into their respective seasons. Right now Watson has the edge there.
-
When I asked the question about Trubisky it was more in relation to he and Watson not so much Glennon. You'll get almost no argument from me that right now (at least after last week) my gut tells me Trubisky could be the better option between he and Glennon. Personally, if Glennon continues to look like garbage; I'd say we need to see Trub sooner than later. There are plenty of reasons but one of them could be that we need to see what we got in Trubisky. At this point it looks like the Bears will be drafting high again and they'll need to know whether they should start considering having to draft another QB or not.
-
"Overwhlemed" you say? Uhm... please elaborate. And you're convinced Trubisky is still the right choice despite his not having an official start yet?
-
Exactly why I'll always believe the Bears should draft Alabama defense players every year (that is while Saban is there).

Given our lack of talent at receiving corps...

True. Trubisky was making Deonte Thompson look pretty good during the pre-season. -
Yeah, that was a tentative 'fine' (with quotes). I didn't get to see the end of the game. But at least Wright is on the field.
-
Yep... And Kendall Wright, who has previously worn #13 and still is, seems to be doing 'fine'.
-
I would agree that this week Glennon looked pretty bad for the entire (or most of) game. Last week, not so much.
-
I'm not completely on the 'fire Fox' bandwagon yet. Here's why; for as bad as they looked today the team played pretty well against Atlanta last week. And as I type this Atlanta is enviscerating Aaron Rodgers and the Fudgepackers right now. In just the few mins I've been watching the Pack has committed two costly 'false start' penalties, a pick play by the "vaunted" (in his mind) Martellus Bennett and Aaron threw a nice Cutler-esque INT deep at their end of the field. All things considered, I don't think all is lost...not yet. Veteran leaders like Trevathan (with his repeated costly holding penalties) and Glennon with his reincarnation of Cutler did more harm to the team than did Fox' coaching. If he thinks Trubisky should sit for the start of next week but knowing both he (Fox) and Glennon are on an extremely short leash I'll stay faithful. If Glennon shows a whisper of failure next week then Fox needs to yank him...post haste. In the meantime I'm going to cheer for the Dirty Birds and hope Coach McCarthy gets another personal foul call. And as I write this Rodgers threw a nice lateral pass to no one that was picked up for a TD by ATL. Lolololololollllll!!!!
-
This has to be the worst prepared team Fox has assembled in recent memory. Penalties, turnovers, injuries... it's a compelete team effort clusterf*ck Good grief!!!
-
I was afraid this might happen. He's showing early signs of the dreaded 'sophomore slump'.
-
I thought we got rid of Cutler?!?! Holy freak! I've seen enough of Glennon. Unless he pulls some sort of miracle and makes this game interesting they need to start the Biscuit next week.
-
Was watching highlights from last week snd noticed after Howard's TD run he dove into the end zone and landed on his right shoulder. He came up favoring that shoulder afterward. Wonder if it was a factor in that crucial drop later on? Gonna guess it was a shoulder seperartion. Probably why he can play this week.
-
Saw that #24 is on the injury list with a bum shoulder... but expected to play. Hmmm... https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/...pected-to-play/

I think Steve Bartman can appreciate how rabid the fans of Chicago are. As well as conciliatory they can be (or at least the Cubs organization is) when they won the WS and gave him a ring. Where else has that happened? I wonder how many New England fans have 5 duplicate Super Bowl rings?

Bears signed DE Akiem Hicks to a four-year, $48 million extension
Alaskan Grizzly replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
Yikes, when you look at WR and CB only, it's a little thin next year. Aside from Fitz there really aren't any truly talented WRs in the top half money-wise. And one of the highest priced CBs, Amukamura, is not only already on the team ... he has yet to play. -sigh- I did see Devonte Adams (currently of the Fudge Packers) down the list a-ways. That would be nice 'grudge' signing...if possible. Kinda like having Sitton on the team and still playing well. -
Falcons at Bears Official Week 1 Game Thread
Alaskan Grizzly replied to Stinger226's topic in Bearstalk
Simply put; Glennon started out slow. Whether it be the play calling or him getting into rhythm, he played well enough to maintain the starting role. I think he should be given the opportunity to air it out now but to who? Once they pull the trigger on Trubisky that's it, Glennon is done in Chicago. There will be no going back; especially if Biscuit stinks it up; which is very possible. Remember both Hoyer and Barkley played well in this offense last year...at one time. In fact Barkley played a similar 'roll out of the pocket' style as does Trubisky. Glennon (and to some degree, Hoyer) is a pocket passer plain and simple. As long as he's protected he'll do fine. He certainly didn't lose the game this last weekend. -
Whatever happened to Randle? He seemed to be playing ok and thought he made the final 53. *edit: never mind, went IR then released. Of course.
