Looks as though the Jets could be shopping both DT Sheldon Richardson and S Calvin Pryor today. I believe last year we were interested in Richardson (?) but they wanted too much. Now he might be had for a fourth (which we have extra of). As far as the financials go, not sure how feasible it would be. Both positions are 'of need' for us. ???? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000080...-day-2-of-draft

What strikes me as funny and if memory serves, you weren't too keen on Pace before. Your opinion of him different now?
-
Yeah, that's not good. To me I don't like it. But the 'out' is, should Trubisky fail, Fox can say he didn't pick him and they'll shitcan Pace. Given Fox's relative success in the league and Pace's new guy aura I'd be pretty pissed if I were Fox. Maybe I'm reading into it but wasn't it last year there was talk that Fox was running roughshod on most everyone and there was potentially some disparity amongst the ranks? We know Fox and Elway crossthreaded one another when in Denver, hence why we ended up with him, so perhaps this is a sign of a deeper issue? I'd be willing to guess with both Fox's and Fangio's background in defense, Fangio probably didn't agree to this either.

For all we know Lynch could have sent those tweets. With the regard of Pace trying to move up for Mariotta a few years ago, a large chip in that deal was Cutler. No one wanted that, let alone Tennessee. But as far as San Fran not having a QB of the future, there are still Kaaya, Webb and Kizer on the board. All relatively capable QBs. Especially for a team with Kyle Shannahan as coach.
-
Not if Jimmy G still is.
-
Kizer is still on the board. He was considered by many here as a starter worthy QB. If Cleveland really thinks Osweiler worthy then maybe they give him one last shot(?). Not as much pressure as when he was in Houston. And Cody Kessler (third round last year from USC) isn't the worst QB out there. Had a decent career in college. In SF I'll point out again that Kizer is still available. But you have a decent starter in Hoyer (did ok for us) and wunderkid Kyle Shanahan at the helm, so again QB may have not been as much a need. To me, Cleveland and SF addressed multiple needs with relatively little risk whereas as Chicago addressed one need with a huge mortgage. Chicago was (still is) in that 'multiple need' category and now has less quality picks to address those needs. I might point out a quote from you on another thread: "Also, this is almost reverse to how you build a team. You need a good core in place before bringing in the franchise QB so you maximize the years of the rookie deal (see Seattle). Going the other way, QB first, has proven not to work, see Carr in Houston, Cleveland, etc. They had crappy teams, went QB instead of filling out their core, and never went anywhere because the QB got killed." It appears st least Cleveland did exactly what you suggested and wished Chicago would've done. And as far as QBs go, I'm officially now a fan of Glennon and hope he remains our starter for years to come. Still not sold on Trubisky.

I'd like to see some combo of Kevin King (big Fangio style CB) , Budda Baker (adjustable position player) and/or DeDe Westbrook (although he's just another speedster which seems we have plenty of). If WR we probably need a big AJ-like receiver. And kinda surprised Kizer is still available.
-
That doesn't instill a lot of confidence.
-
I sure hope this works out in the long run. Right now it seems weird to think our guy was bested by Cleveland (3 firsts yesterday; Garrett, Peppers, Njouku and an extra one next year) and a rookie GM in San Francisco (with two firsts this year - Thomas and Foster). And for a team that had a decent set of picks going in needing to address multiple positions, we now have less to address less...for now.
-
Have to say I agree with this rationale. And that I'm with you on a QB pick. Just not sure this was the right way to do it.
-
Can someone please explain what the heck just happened? I missed the draft and on the way home am listening to nothing but major flaming on the Bears. Not just the pick of Trubisky but how they got to 2 to get him. I'll admit I'm a fan of pick at QB BUT not him and not at the cost.
-
For the first round either (in no particular order); Watson, Adams, Howard or Mike Williams/Reuben Foster if later in the first round. Why Mike Williams? Well he's a pretty good WR and apparently a high character guy. Really though just about any Alabama defender depending on where in the first round we end up.

Ha! I enlisted in the military at 17 and there's a whole lot of blank space until I was in my early 20s. But yeah, you're absolutely right. If I was given a gob of money I'd be that more of a jerk, especially at that age. It really is a tough call being in those shoes. I've been a lot more wrong than right when I try to predict how well a kid will do in the NFL.
-
'What if" Trubisky ends up being the Ryan Leaf to Watson or Kizer's Manning? Obviously not the best analogy but the point being, you go with what you know. Pace has experience as a scout and by now knows what his team needs based on his past experience paired with the team needs and the position he's held for the last three years. When it comes down to it though, we really won't know what we got or misse on until the season starts. Personally to me, you can't trust the Mayocks, Kipers and other so called 'draft experts' to choose for you.
-
Not bad especially since Watson is first. (Have to say not a fan of Kelly's. Smells like Manziel too much). I'd rather see a high end safety drafted sooner (like in the second spot) but if this kid from Iowa fits the bill, what the heck? Getting Corey Davis would be a great steal. And why am I not shocked you have two OTs in your draft? ?
-
Agreed and great point. Only difference for me is that I view Watson higher than Trubisky. Reason for that is his (Watson) track record. Not keen on the idea of Trubiskys starting record of only 13 games. In the end though; if the team determines their #1 priority is QB and either Trubisky, Watson or Kizer fit that role; I'll support the pick at 3.

In my book, I think this one wins. All the extra picks, Adams, Watson, and DeDe Westbrook in later rounds is pretty solid.

Foster to enter the league in drug program
Alaskan Grizzly replied to killakrzydav's topic in Bearstalk
Yeah I saw that too. Not only a 'fail' but a diluted one too. Tells me he tried to skew the results and, as AZ noted, was probably part of why he acted like a douche at the hospital. I also read that his shoulder surgery he had earlier this year isnt healing as well as they had hoped. I'm not totally disinterested at this point but I'm sure not wanting him in the 1st round anymore. Maybe 3rd or even 4th...or not at all. -
If last year was any indication and throw in the tough early weeks of this season, half our team will be on IR by the BYE week.
-
I could definitely see this. Cant say I'd be the least bit surprised if the Bears went back to 12 and more picks in the second. All this makes sense. In other news, I saw that Foster failed his drug test and not only that but it was "diluted". I had also read that he hadn't been healing as well as hoped from shoulder surgery earlier this year. So much for his 1st round hopes. Maybe with one of those extra #2s we'd still have a shot?
-
I'm with you... (aside from not believing I would 'say this'). And Reuben Foster. ? I know this isn't the question but I still really really hope that GB doesn't end up with Leonard Fournette.
-
I looked into your claim of many talking about Floyd as an option last year. As much as it pains me to admit, you suggested that he could be. Not many others agreed with that thought but nevertheless whether it be intuition, crystal ball, tarot cards or just luck, you predicted correctly. At any rate we'll see how this all shakes out in a little over a week. And as someone else pointed out this has been a difficult one to call. Could just about be anyone at this point in the first round.
-
I did say I'm good with them picking Foster, but not as an OLB. My question to you was about this remark: "I agree, but you'd be surprised at what people think. Even in this thread Alaska said he wouldn't mind an OLB." As it was an inference to Stinger's comment that people who mention Foster (or any other ILB) "...don't know what they're talking about".
-
Ryan? Is that you?
-
Probably/maybe not. Maybe there's another Robeto Arguyo (or Sebastian Janikowski) waiting to be discovered.
