Not sure what that exactly means but I will reiterate this; how many here picked Floyd as the 1st pick last year? Or even Kevin White the year before that? I didn't endorse picking an OLB (in this thread) unless you thought I did by saying I like Foster. I did say I would like to see Christian Jones play better at OLB, or at least how well he could be if given the chance. I don't agree that any position is absolutley off the table; save maybe Guard, RB, Punter or Kicker.
-
If this guy is second rated to Foster, I'm in. I personally wouldn't mind if they chose Foster at three or whatever 1st round position they end up at. Suspect Trevathan is done or won't be a factor anymore. As far as OLB; I've always been a fan of Jones' and if memory serves he was a pretty successful OLB at Florida State...in a 3-4 no less. Perhaps Fangio sees potential in him now that he's seen him play the last two years? Maybe why his contract was renewed like it was? Draft will help us figure that one out a little better.

Yeah, right before Fisher was let go it got out he and Dickerson had been feuding. Here's one of several articles. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/11/jeff-fishe...ngeles-rams-nfl

Perfect example of how much the "experts" know. That same draft that Cousins went 4th round was the same one RGIII went first. Although comparisons to both Russel Wilson and Dak Prescott (Watson) isn't too shabby.

I'd actually be ok with Kizer too, if hard pressed. As I've stated before I just have a 'thing' against us drafting a QB from ND. I still don't get Trubisky. He's got such a small sample size that I'm not sure how anyone can comfortably claim 'he's the one'. Like how you say Watson has 'tendancies' (speculative) due to his longer playing career you can't say that as much with a guy who only has 13 games as a starter. And he played for NC. And I keep seeing although on the NC team for 4 years couldn't beat out former starter Marquisse Williams (who?). I just don't know. Bucky Brooks made a comparison of Trubisky that really made me cringe. That being to a one Marc Sanchez (one year starter in college that didn't translate to the NFL). Ewww...

Maybe not the top playmaker, but a great overall veteran influence for a young team.

If we don't end up with Watson as the first then Adams would be my #1a choice. Not only is he a great player but like Watson has a lot of great intangiables (leadership being one of them). Can't say as I'm familiar with Humphery but I've been wishing the Bears would add an Alabama DB for a couple years now. Still disappointed they missed on Collins and Clinton-Dix these last few years.

With regards to Watson and his TO rate; you forgot to mention his 41 TDs last year and 35 the year before. Along with over 4,000 yds each year. I don't know if you can dink and dunk your way to 4000 yards through screens and slants but ok. By the way, Matt Ryan threw 19 INTs to 31 TDs his senior year at BC. I might also add that Jay Cutler threw 9 INTs to his 21 TDs his senior year, so there is that. Watson has to be measured more for than just his QB performance (in fact they all should be). He has intelligence and proven leadership on the field (besides being a stand up guy). All elements our very young team needs. Although personally not a fan I see some similarities to Watson and Jaimes Winston who was known to TO the ball with great frequency but somehow managed to still win despite it. Some would say he's cobbling together a pretty good career in TB so far. Once again those QBs that could be eligible for the draft are next year. Where will we be drafting next year and how many of them could the Bears actually have a shot at? How many of them; like Darnold a Freshman, will be able to sustain their play? How many of them potentially could become injured? Will these guys be playing in and winning any national championships in the next year or two? Bottom line, my guess is the team is going to choose the player they best fits their needs for this year. Will it be a DLman, DB or QB? Still anyone's guess, but I don't think we can discount any top performing player of those positions.

I like this Mullin guy. Also appears this Gabriel cat has similar thinking (below). http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/04/13/mor...back-nfl-draft/ Still trying to figure out two things; why is Trubisky rated as high as he is? And about next years QB class, where are these hidden gem(s) I keep hearing about? Really curious. Anyone???

I think Fisher's ouster was more a deeper issue than him not starting Goff right away. In fact Keenum was starting out not so bad until the Giants game in week 7. Despite Keenums four TOs in that game Fisher first said he'd be remain the starter then shortly after that reversed course again and named Goff the starter. Weigh that with his infamous mistreatment of Eric Dickerson and his general mediocrity while Rams coach; i think is what brought it to a head. The one thing going for Pace is that he didn't sign Glennon to a multi-year (guaranteed) Franchise QB deal. We still really don't know what he's capable of. With Keenum you had to think he'd eventually flame out and had Fischer done a bette job of guaging that he might still have been with the Rams. Again in Fox' corner you have his ability to bring different teams to the SB. All the while using retread QBs. Will he do it again soon? Still remains to be seen, but to me none of this precludes them from picking a QB at 3.

EXCELLENT POST Lucky. Couldn't agree more. Especially like the idea of potentially having a 'good' problem with two decent starting caliber QB's that could be trade worthy. Again the fact of how Glennon's contract is set up tells me plenty. Nothing guaranteed like when they signed Cutler to that ridiculous contract a few years back.
-
Just because I'm curious; why is Trubisky (at QB) even THE topic of discussion? What has he done? Who has he played against? He's got what 13 games started under his belt and??? Is it because "experts" like Kiper and Mayock deem it so? He didn't play on an NFL style offense and of those 13 starts has a record of 8-5 so again, what gives? Granted I live in Alaska so it's possible I'm removed a bit from reality but still I wonder. Of course if Cleveland or SF think he worthy then fine by me.

I don't want those guys, I want Watson.

Something I saw yesterday on NFL network said there is more 1st round talent than there are actual 1st round picks. I didn't hear if that was position or defense/offense specific; but given how potentially early the Bears will pick in the first two rounds we could certainly end up with quality players in those first two rounds.
-
I keep hearing that 'next years' QB class is supposed to be better. I have to ask, who are these prospects and what have they done to make them that much better? The guy I like, Watson, played pretty much consistent through the last two years AND did that while playing Alabama in the last two championships. You realize how many of those same Alabama players will probably be picked in the first round? And how many more will be starting in the NFL next year? Who right now, in the college ranks is doing that?
-
Agreed. And the argument about picking a QB early this year versus next is extremely valid. Why else do you think they set up Glennon's contract with an 'escape clause' like they did? If they decide a QB is worthy of the #3 pick this year then they can get him now and either use him if need or have him ready next year if need. Presumably Glennon will do 'just enough' not to lose; ergo be a game manager where he could theoretically become a backup next year or off the team entirely. If he bombs out and we need a younger QB who has had time in the system, we're already set. I for one don't see the team playing less than .500 because if they do, I don't see John Fox (and quite possibly Pace) returning next year. Of course all that being said you have to look at trends and who has the most influence on the Bears staff. Fox and Fangio are defensive minded guys. Both have led teams (or parts of teams) to Super Bowls. One has been and is an HC. The other has been considered a few times as an HC. His (Fangios) defenses have a history of dominating in the past. The same can't be said about Loggains and his offensive acumen. The 'trend' factor plays in that more and more teams are putting more money on the defense. OLBs and pass rushers are fast becoming the hot commodity (thanks to Von Miller). However I don't think that guarantees we pick an OLB/pass rusher or Dlineman first (already did that last year) but I would be willing to bet that first pick will be a defensive player.

'I think' someone needs to tell management to have Kevin White switch his number from 13 to something else. Not that I'm superstitious or anything.... Didn't do Johnny Knox much good.

No QB?? And you have two players with questionable health/injury concerns? I like seeing Foster in this group.

How Much Would it Cost to Trade for Sherman?
Alaskan Grizzly replied to Mongo3451's topic in Bearstalk
First; on Sherman...hell no. Mostly because of his locker room presence. You thought Brandon and Martellus were distractions? Maybe he'll reunite with Quinn down in ATL. Secondly; as Jason eloquently put it, Cooper is starting "period". (I'm still looking for his jersey). -
Bears sign DB - B W Webb to one year deal
Alaskan Grizzly replied to ASHKUM BEAR's topic in Bearstalk
Who? But yes, agree with you. Unless he's more a special teams contributor. -
In case anyone's interested; Ego was picked up off waivers by the Packers a few days ago then dropped today after failing a physical. It's pretty apparent the Pack is looking for DT help after also signing former Bear target Jean Francois. I like that the Packers seem to be picking up our scraps. http://www.espn.com/blog/green-bay-packers...failed-physical

As much as I'd like to see Watson on the team for similar reasons B4ever listed about Adams; he's the one exception I'd like at #3. I realize we have a ton of Safeties on the roster already but this guy has a lot of potential. All of which were listed out by 4ever.

So why would we expect them to draft heavy on the D if they've already done that, or at least addressed it in the last two years? Here are the players Pace has brought through the draft or as UDFA's since becoming the Bears GM. Eddie Goldman (DL), Adrian Amos (S), B. Callahan (DB) , Jonathan Anderson (LB), Jacoby Glenn (CB), J. Timu (LB), Harold Jones-Quartey (S), L., Floyd (OLB), J. Bullard (DL), N. Kwitkowski (LB), D. Bush (S), and D. Houston-Carson (S). Of the drafted players Pace picked 2 out of six in 2015 and 7 out of 9 possible picks last year. Of all the above listed players who are still on the team? More importantly, how many of these guys are about to contribute in a big way? Two trains of thought here. One being that perhaps our soon to be 2nd and 3rd year players are going to contribute in a big way OR they're going to draft MORE defensive players that are not ready to contribute for another year or two. Thus begging the question should Pace be trusted to draft players that aren't ready to contribute in years 2 or 3? So we should focus mostly on drafting defensive players this year you say? Since 'we're closer' on that side of the ball you say? If memory serves, didn't Lovie used to get fried on this board for focusing too much on defense and not enough on offense? Personally I like the idea of a dominant defense but not at the expense of totally overlooking the talent available on the offensive side of the ball in the draft.

Plain and simple I think Pace is and has repeated he likes BPA. (Of course he's also said he believes in drafting a QB each year). Anyhow, our draft is till anyone's guess (probably even Pace). Because they could still move from the 3rd position which changes tactics considerably. That said, he'll either go with extreme need or BPA (depending on where our first pick ends up). For me, QB is still a need and could easily be our first pick. And I still believe that ILB (Foster) could be considered too as BPA. In other words, everything is still on the table.
