Agree with most who say we are still in line for a QB at 3. Glennon is not a 'sure thing' despite his contract (and alternatively, maybe because of it). If they draft a QB early they will approach training camp with an open QB competition (have they committed to Glennon as the starter?). Shaw, who is also still on the team, isn't out of the equation will either. He showed a lot of promise during the preseason last year (and was one of the first players to be re-signed). If our drafted QB doesn't work out this year and our team sucks again next offseason, we draft another. If our team does better than expected, then fabulous.

There's been some talk about him maybe having an injury of some sort. Probably why he hasn't been getting any takers(?)

Any reason we could use a situational rusher like Demarcus Ware? Probably not ideal considering the youth movement were in but he is a great leader. And would be cool for Floyd to be able to hang and play alongside his idol. EDIT: Just saw that he announced his retirement. Never mind.

Bears have signed CB Marcus Cooper to a three-year contract
Alaskan Grizzly replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
I like it. Seems he found his footing last year in AZ. Pretty certain he's reuniting with Fangio which could also be huge for us. Big physical corner is one of his staples. I noticed they also resigned Banks so they should be near capacity with CB. -
Saw some of these stats too. Cooper may not be bad especially after how well he did last year.. looks like he's been wandering around without a chance to play much. (SF to KC to AZ). Drafted in the 7th by SF in 2013z. Is there a history with he and Fangio? At 6'2" and 192 he's a big body hitter so that fits the Fangio mold.

Yeah Connor and I had seen that article too. This part of intangibles is a very strong trait to have especially at QB. And to think, as Glennon pointed out, he hasn't played for the last 2 1/2 years so there isn't much wear and tear on him. I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised by him when it comes time.

Good point. (See I do pay attention).

Mad to point 2 of your 'open letter'. I was checking out some highlights and recent pressers on Glennon these last few days. Although this is a time where all you have to do is say the right things and you're golden, I get something more from him. He seems to be on point not just verbally but mentally. He looks like a guy determined to give us his best. Will his numbers jump out at us, probably not. But at least not only is he saying the right things right now he's doing the right things. In an article I read about him it was said one of the first things he asked for was an iPad with all the plays on it so he could get to studying. He also asked for all the telephone numbers of all the offensive players so he could start talking to them about the upcoming season. He also wanted pictures of the other players presumably so he'd know who's who when he started hanging out at Halas Hall. In his intro presser today it was obvious he's already started studying the players on the team as he was able to rattle off a few of the key players and their recent accomplishments. To me that says volumes. There may just be something to this guy after all. I'm not as concerned as I was yesterday but I'll still be curious to see how he does as time wears on .

There's still some time especially if you consider post draft moves. That's how we ended up with Sitton last year. All hope is not lost.

I'm with you. I'm of the opinion you still draft a QB in the 3rd this year. If for some reason he doesn't work out this year or isn't needed then you draft another next year. The way contracts are currently set up for our QBs (Glennon, Shaw) we can dump either or both next year if needed; or keep them.

Just watched some highlight film on this guy and I have to admit, we may have a gem. He actually catches with his hands and runs nice TE routes. Big body that is hard to bring down. Reminds me a little of Marty B, without the attitude.

I think the biceps and maybe perctotal (?) were what kept derailing Peanut toward the end.

I find it interesting that both Meredith and Pryor are having a successful renaissance after both being former college Qbs. Meredith is a lot like Pryor, call him Pryor lite. I take back my earlier comment though that if we managed to get both we could worry less about backup QBs. Still definitely need to do art one.

I like being that he's from Nebraska. I always think of Mike Brown when I hear of Prince. Good solid player from Nebraska BUT gets hurt a lot.

So now Barkley has gone to San Fran...interesting. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2695823...ree-to-contract Whose next, Cutler? What does that say about us in the QB dept? I'm beginning to feel more confident they are lookin at drafting a QB. They only have one QB on the roster from last year and he didn't play a snap in the regular season.
-
Hell, McMahon and Grossman both led our team to the Super Bowl, so there is that. I'm with you though Brad, not excited for the next chapter in QB...not yet anyhow.
-
They tried (I believe) the last two years but got no takers.

I drank all mine after I head Cutler was leaving. (Lolo). But youre right, may need to invest in a new stockpile. Do they sell Laughivilan(sp?) in bulk like at Costco? I'm not a totally worried just yet, they still have Fox there so I have some faith. But like I asked a few weeks ago I'm really starting to wonder what Pace's strategy is. With all this Cap space I thought for sure we'd be filling some of the middle sized holes, not making them bigger! Aye carumba!

I feel, with Glennon, there is a potential for as much down side as there is upside. I sure hope they still draft another.

I'm done with it. Sorry to have added to the hijacking of this thread. We're past it now and onto a new era. The Mike Glennon era...?

Here we go again, the ongoing 'it's everything but Jays fault' argument. Just because I'm curious I looked up "good Qbs with bad olines" and found this: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/06/ranking-nf...-patriots-brady Here are a few names from this article with their particular olines and where they ranked going into last season. With each name I put up I would add not always are they (QB) successful but the team, despite their Oline ranking. Brady - 26th, A. Smith - 20th, Tannehill/Dolphins - 27th, J. Winston - 21st, R. Wilson - 30th, E. Manning - 25th, Mariota - 32nd, Luck - 28th. So you see, it isn't so difficult to find a successful QB/team after all. (and I didn't add Rodgers). If Jay signs on with another team and LEADS that team to the playoffs and the Super Bowl, I'll eat crow. Until then I wish him the best in whatever he does next.

I don't think this is about settling on the journeyman backup. It's certainly not about falling in love with him. (Not for me anyhow). Hoyer just made the most sense since he was here last year and had worked with Loggains before. I think the majority agree that a QB needs to be drafted. The question is whomever that is; whether drafted earlier or later, probably won't be ready to start. Thus the discussion of having a veteran in place for the "bridge" to whenever that rookie is ready to play. Personally I'd like to see 3-4 QB in an open competition for the starting position. Whether it's Glennon at this point, Shaw, Barkley and a draft pick I just want the best that will come from that . Glennon should not be guaranteed the job if he signs.
-
Id still prefer they have at least one other veteran. Unfortunately, justified or no Shaw has an injury history going back to college. Nothing chronic it appears. Just bad luck.
