Had this peculiar thought cross my mind last night. More of a 'what if' than anything but since we're in the dead zone of the NFL, why not? I started wondering how bad do you think NE is for a big outside receiver? I know they have Amendola, Edelman and Hogan but they're more like quick twitch slot receivers. I'm talking big body Randy Moss types. Like say an Alston Jeffery? Keep that thought. John Clayton was on ESPN last night and was speculating that Belichick would probably be willing to let Garrapolo go for a 'good 2nd round pick' (like Chicago has). I should add I am not a fan of Garrapolo coming to Chicago BUT for a bargain deal like that, why not? Anyhow, what if they were to sweeten the deal like we give them AJ and our second for a few of their draft picks (like their 2nd and 3rd they got from the Browns). I'm sure Belichick will do some wheeling and dealing to get better picks anyhow. Clayton seems to think he likes more later round picks than he does 1st round so I could see him maybe dealing away their 32nd overall pick for someone elses later rounds. I'm not a draft or trade expert by any stretch. Guess it really boils down to does NE need a different style WR? Heck maybe part of the trade could involve our second and AJ for Garrapolo, (Edelman, Amendola or Hogan) and their second or third? Why not?

Meh. I get an Albert Haynesworth vibe from him. Gase got a good look at him last year and would probably give Vic and Foxy a fair assessment, or at least his opinion.
-
I like Garçon. He's pretty rugged as opposed to Royal or even AJ. Not so keen on his projected price tag. An advantage of having Pryor and Meredith on the team you wouldn't have to look too hard at signing back up QBs.
-
I was checking some video out on him and first gut feeling when i see him is RGIII. Or is that because I'm a Watson homer?
-
Not bad. Got Watson, a second first rounder and McCaffery. Agree on Dline. Don't know if the Bears need a slew of young uns just smart adds from FA.
-
Wouldn't need to if we trade back. Edit: and I should say that I wasn't necessarily advocating that the Bears pick them, just to take note.
-
Still a big fan of Watson as the first round pick. BUT two names that may need to be watched are TEs OJ Howard from Bama and David Njoku of Miami. Both are rising on draft boards. Remember it wasn't all that long ago our team picked a TE in the first round. Dude goes by the name of Greg Olsen.

*BOING* indeed!!!! Sadly I'll have to admit the 'ship has sailed' on McCown. His time to flourish for us was when the Mad Scientist was still here. Had they kept McCown instead of keeping (and signing) Cutler, where would we have been today? I'm good with how things worked out in the long run. Mostly that Fox is now the HC and FINALLY they are going to dump Cutler.

I'm partial to Sid Luckman in the '40s.

Comparisons to Dan Marino are pretty accurate.

Sorry no. This was the game that Jason has us all playing.

I did it again with the intent of drafting Watson. I even proposed two trades (to the previous teams of which were both declined). However there he was at 3, so I grabbed him. And using the RGIII and Cousins philiospohy was able to get Kaaya with our second of three third round picks. Other notables were Dede Westbrook and the guy named Corn.

Report: Jimmy G atop Bears priority list
Alaskan Grizzly replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
I hate it too. But along the lines of what Stinger suggests, perhaps its just a smoke screen (God I hope). Maybe to deflect attention of what our team's real interests are in a higher grade QB in the draft. Ultimately that is the direction the team needs to go (through the draft). Sure he (Jimmy G) is the feel good story being he's from Illinois and he broke Tony Romo records at Eastern Illinois (what exactly has Romo accomplished in the NFL?) but bottom line, how have other prior NE Pats QB's done outside of their system? I'll reiterate, we have one (former Pats QB) on the roster already. His name; Brian Hoyer. -
Who the heck is this Mahomes guy? Thought you were a Watson guy like me? Haha. There's really a guy named 'Corn'? I'm going to try again with Watson as the first pick as that's who I really want. But Jason is right, this is pretty cool. (Hate it when he's right...lol)

You what's really funny is im finding myself watching highlight film on the first 5-6 picks and those rated an 'A+'. That's backwards right?

I really shouldn't have 'gone there' and perhaps this is a topic deserving of its own thread. At any rate... Until last year Webb was playing for Seattle and the year before that, Williams was still playing as a Guard for STL/LA. So it would seem that Tice wasn't alone in analyzing the skills of these guys and their positions. The point I was trying to make with Long and Whitehair was just that; sometimes you have to move people based on need or simply they're no good where they are projected to be. I think somewhere deep in the discourse we agree to that basic thought. DBDB highlights a very frustrating point about 'the experts' and their analysis of where they think players will succeed in the NFL. In the case of Carimi and Williams; both were projected as 1st round talent and the Bears bit both times. Similar to Colombo. Can't fault the Bears too much for doing what you want and getting what they thought was supposed to be the talent they wanted for OL protection and it didn't work out. Same with Pace. He was a pro-bowl player for most of his career. Sitton would be this generation's example. He was out a fair amount this last year but was/is he worth the money the team paid for him? Still remains to be seen I suppose. There could be arguments (I know we've had them) all day long about when and where to draft an OLineman versus picking one up in FA. In all the situations there's always that possibility of 'getting it wrong'. Does it seem fair that our team drafts two projected 1st round starters who don't live up to the hype, where a team like Cleveland drafts Joe Thomas who lives up to the hype, yet has to play for Cleveland?
-
Pretty much same rationale for me as Pix. I have faith in the youth up front; Bullard, Goldman, Floyd and some of the effective FA's already in the fold like Hicks and McPhee that our team really needs to look at the defensive backfield. Next to QB that is probably the next highest (if not highest) priority. Berry right now is the best deal out there.
-
I know I'm going to regret this and really shouldn't but... So this moving around thing, aka "jerked around" would be different than say Kyle Long (a two time ProBowler as OG) playing Tackle? Or a Cody Whitehair who until last year never played Center? And in the end, Williams ended up starting (for another team) as OG. So... there is that.
-
I wont and you haven't ?. I've been up to my ears in political debate lately. Don't have the energy. Nevertheless, I'd still like that OT from Bama and their TE (Howard?). Beyond that not many other Bama players appeal to me. Not at least in positions of need. Clemson on the other hand, they got a few.

This I like. Hey Jason, didn't Cutler, Chris Williams and Earl Bennett all play at Vanderbilt together? I'd say Bennett played good while linked to Jay in Chicago whereas former 1st round pick Williams...did not.
