In all reality the draft is a crapshoot. Too many 'what ifs' that don't always work to their title. First rounders rarely play to that level nor do the all the later rounds always play down to theirs.

Mayock is a tool. He's the same that in 2012 rated RBIII as the #2 QB behind Luck. And coincidently predicted that Trent Richardson was the #3 talent in that year's draft. Of course we all know that he actually was picked somewhere in the top 5 but are still waiting for that top 5 talent. In the 2013 draft class he rated Geno Smith #21 (#1 OB) overall. The #3 QB? EJ Manuel followed by Matt Barkley. I said it once and will again, I'll sell all of my Bears memorabilia and denounce my fanmanship if the Bears draft Winston in round 1 or even 2. If he's available in the third or later rounds...? I'll consider it.

I've actually heard a few say that he may transition well. Some say that he has had a lot of latitude with calling plays at the line. Although I'm not sure if that means he is actually reading the defense presented or just calling plays based on gut instinct. Something tells me that based on how Ohio State played them that he wasn't able to make that transition. I think it was Colin Cowherd that said traditionally as of late the West Coast QB's have done great against West Coast teams, but when they are playing against East Coast (or even Midwest teams) they don't do as well. One thing that makes me suspicious is that Mariotta has ducked out of two invites this month. One being the Shrine Game and the other this week's Senior Bowl. Is that because he is trying to avoid injury or just doesn't want to showcase himself out of the Oregon system? I would think that since your team essentially flopped in the Nat'l Championship and that is the last anyone has seen you play, you might want to redeem yourself before the draft. But that's just me.

I had asked that (him playing) earlier and was told no in so uncertain terms. Wouldn't mind him playing but not sure hed be able to finish the year. Rather stay with Jay if I HAD to choose.

So got another "off the wall" scenario for you. WHAT IF Peyton was to decide to retire? Would he be worth considering as an OC? What about at least a QB coach? We know he's a student of the game. He has a few weeks to decide and is closing in on 40 (which makes him older than our GM by the way).

I was actually going to say the same thing. But didn't want to appear soft. Haha... But you're sbsolutely right. It's apparent to me the kid cares. AND is genuine. THAT was the definition of '60 minute' football.

Please don't get "Bears forever" all riled up. It's not that bad. There is plenty of talent out there. Most of the 'known' candidates are currently already OCs somewhere else. Some may not want a lateral hire. Many coordinators were once positional coaches so give Fox his due. The guy has been around long enough to know who or what he needs.

Wellllll....except for this last year you're right. ? But then, who hasn't been better? -

You're right. The guy just needs. Someone else to write his announcements. I'm sure it'll turn out to be a good hire. -
I've been the same way but I'm still here, why can't Brian? ? I think it stupendous if Fox were to do this. Brian has a lot of reasons to complain. We didn't know what happened that fateful day when he was finally let go but we know, for the most part, they were wrong in doing it. And as it would seem most everyone else (the public - fans) complained about what was going on in public, he was right. The fact that Fox is reaching out to the teams past and history is pretty damn respectable. The people of Chicago love their sports and the fact that each branch is nearly a cornerstone in their respective sport, that says a lot. Fox is doing all the right things. Spectacular hire.

All is not lost. Here is a quick article about Another candidate. Gregg Knapp. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/01/16/dur...tor-candidates/

Got one name for you: LaGarette Blount. Hell I could even suggest Marshawn Lynch was washed up when he left Buffalo. But then I'd be wrong wouldn't I?

FWIW I think Peanut should seriously consider trying Safety. I'm fairly certain we could squeeze one more year (or two) as a caretaker until they get a draftee or someone younger in there. Fox worked with Champ Bailey who was in a similar situation so perhaps he could coax him into it.

Bears Hire Josh Lucas as Director of Player Personnel

So are we agreeing or disagreeing that this is really irrelevant? And that this guy needs a better PR person or??? -

So you "got me". Good job. Still, what kind of powerhouse is Jacksonville again? The point made, in regard to that, was both (this guy and Tucker) had history there. And the fact you don't get my point really doesn't surprise me. Probably too much liquid drano. -
Not sure. Could Fox (and whomever the OC is) get the most out of him? Time will tell.
-
I know but being where I am a lot of food here are big fans of Seattle. And I think they may actually be worse fans. So it's hard to choose. Am glad that GB lost. Will be happy if either NE/ Insy can beat them. Preferably Indy as my folks live in that area.

And who was the DC that year? Not that that is my point but if you're going to promote someone (in the sense of talking about their positives, why wouldnt the author mention that? Bad salesmanship. But no matter. This guys influence on the whole scheme of things is sorta irrelevant. More ceremonial than anything. If he doesn't cut it... In doing whatever he's supposed to do... I'm sure Pace will handle it. Like I said he's a. Graduate of Harvard so he must be smart. -
I hate both teams but who do I cheer for? Good game!
-
Marion the "Barbian" he was once known as. Sheesh... Agreed about a 'North / South' runner very similar to Lacy. I'd like to think that Trent Richardson could potentially be that type of player. Perhaps Indy would part with him and he'd be worth trying in that role? I see him similar to Ricky Williams (or even his more recent co-Alum of Alabama Mark Ingrim) in that perhaps he's a late bloomer? Alabama has cranked out some descent RBs these last few years.

Bears Hire Josh Lucas as Director of Player Personnel
Alaskan Grizzly replied to bradjock's topic in Bearstalk
Yeah... Meh. They sure didn't do a big 'promotional to buyer' campaign did they? He's Cum Laude from Harvard (which is spectacular) but played football there for two years (whooppeee) and was on Jaksonville's staff (with Tucker??? - gulp) before working for NO. Where they went " 5-11 last season". Remind me that whomever authored this to never do my resume. -
I like that way of thinking but, what do you do with the back four? Obviously keep Fuller, (maybe) Mundy and ((maybe) Vereen. But what about Jennings? I'd have to think they may need to spend somewhere in that area. Maybe BPA in draft?

Bears request an interview with Vic Fangio DC of the 49ers
Alaskan Grizzly replied to 'TD''s topic in Bearstalk
Anyone know if either Fox or Pace are at the E/W Shrine game? If so, I'm impressed. -
Something I've been hearing over and over Is that Fox is innovative. In that I mean he "adapts" his schemes to what best fits the players, not the other way around. I think with Pace talking BPA being his preferred way of drafting, that could be a great fit. I doubt of course they'll ignore the 'need(s)' but if they can get what they think is a star player and make it work, it will.

Look at you waxing Theologically. But you know, it does seem divine in its intervention doesn't it?
