We lost power here so can't see game. Is Allen playing at all? And if so , D still looks crappy?

That was one of the best plays in recent history. Keith "Tractor" Traylor and Big Ted Washington anchored the dline those days. What a force .

Something tells me that he and Steltz saw the writing on the wall and pushed their returns. Wasn't Conte expected to be out longer? He does have some talent but maybe not enough to get the job. I recall a few times where he lost one on one against a TE. ( the opposing O at the time took advantage knowing his bad coverage skills) and he doesn't show a great knack for filling gaps. Personally of the two I felt Wright was the better hitter. Steltz will be gone soon.

My Direct TV is on the Kaputz but enjoyed Adams play by play . Sounds like there may be an answer developing in who will be the #2 TE behind Bennett. My fears of Palmer are becoming confirmed. Neckbeard anyone? Willie Young is a strong player that got lost in the shuffle with the addition of Allen, Houston and the rookies. He's solid enough and young that he could prove to be an X factor this year.

Think of it as a positive that now you'll be able to better read the senior citizen's menu. Which you should be eligible for in most establishments. I actually look forward to that as my next milestone. Hey, we all have to have goals right?

Interesting path he has taken. Super Bowl MVP, Jets highly touted (and paid) WR to ... this.

Couldn't agree more. He was never overwhelming before he came to Chicago. Had one good year out of ?? But, you're right he's played decent (at least year) since coming over. Unfortunately his history seems to be catching up to him. Maybe why both NYG and DAL were willing to pass him off?

Whatever the case, gotta give Fuller credit for playing through. Didn't hear the whistle (unless it was pre-determined to stop after the catch) so at least he's following through. To me it looks like Bennett was first surprised then embarrassed that he got taken down. It is what it is. Seeing Jay come over afterwards to Fuller as if to say 'don't worry about it, good job' is a good sign.

Orton officially released from Dallas per PFT

I'm still good with him coming to Chicago, in a back up role. He defines "game manager". Doesn't throw big yards but doesn't make many mistakes. Would he work in Trestmans O? Cerebrally yes but dynamically? Hard to say. From my recollection Orton still gets his money from Dallas regardless of what he does so if he wants another shot...on a wining team...sounds like Emery will be willing. Question now is how would he do in competing for the back up role? From what it sounds Palmer may be leaving soon because he's just not clicking. Clausen is a little more of an unknown. Mostly because he's been off the radar for the last few years. From reading into this article I don't get the impression that Clausen has 'burnt any bridges' and still is showing promise. If I had to choose between the two (Orton and Clausen) I'd go Clausen because he's younger and potentially a higher ceiling. But, Orton comes in a very close second because of his proven record. -
I think I may have posted this before but always a favorite of mine. Highlights include: the vaunted '46', LT getting blanked by Covert, SWEETNESS!!! and poor poor Grogan. Here's to 2014 looking much like this!

Not a 'hater' but not a believer...not just yet. Talking the game and playing the game are two different things. Of course BM will stick up for his long time friend, for that he should be (BM) commended. For what its worth, I too have noticed a different poise in how Jay carries himself. More mature and more sure of himself. I just hope that translates to the field.

Well said Terra.

Nice. Gotta love the commitment. With his regimen and mindset I predict a few more Pro Bowls for him as well as potentially a HOF(?). And a Super Bowl or two as well... Heck with Jared on the other side... Oh the possibilities!!!

Maybe why there were an abundance of Guards signed in the last few weeks/months? Wasn't there talk of one day making along into a Tackle? Maybe they are considering that as a necessity? Edit: oops, 'along' should have read 'Long'.

In reading around about it, sounds like Alshon tweeted that "I'm allright" regarding his foot injury. Me thinks that with the compressed camp schedule (due to the new CBA) his being held out of full contact was more cautionary.

Oh yeah...I stand corrected. You're right. I was so used to your guys' 'lovefest' that I assumed it was you that drove him away. You know what they say about assuming....

He may be on hiatus but last I heard he seemed pretty roiled up. I agree with Connor, I'll miss the back and forth of he and Cracker. Pretty funny stuff actually. The "special" relationship Stinger and I have is JV compared to those two.
-
I was wondering why you were asking since the only significant player of note holding out is Lynch...which is Seattle's problem, not ours. Also will chime in with 'welcome back'. As far as fighting with someone, we have one less strong voice in Jason since Cracker chased him off but there is always Terra. He still spouts off from time to time. Or me, I seem to be getting surlier in my older age. Even MadLith irritates me more than he used to. :cheers

Yep. Funny there is this much discussion about punting, but considering how much a difference last years punting game made on some overall outcomes...this is encouraging. I think if they are able to concentrate on directional punting, that will be key. I mean, a guy that can kick 70 yards AND put it inside the 10 or 5 yard line near the sideline...now we're talking.
-
Aren't the quicker combine times for the 40 in the neighborhood of 4-5 secs? Just doing simple math tells me that at that pace (without running around or through people) one should be able to cover the 70 yard span somewhere in the 6-7 sec range? A '5 second hang time' doesn't seem like a long time in that regard. Could speak to the 'out of coverage' Wesson was talking about. The 70 yards is awesome though.

True that. Good thought. FWIW. I'm a fan of Kromers since he came to Chicago. Has brought two pretty decent OLmen (Bushrod and DeLepuente) over from NO since joining us. (By the by, I see DLP as a sleeper of sorts - if OLmen can be). And he (Kromer) seems to compliment Trestman and his strategy. Wonder why he left NO?

Probably more a body than anything. But he's a hybrid Guard/Center like Garza so that makes him more useful.

Orton officially released from Dallas per PFT

One word (name): Jerry Jones. That's why he might consider retiring. But I'd be good with Kyle coming back. He's not a real dynamic performer but consistent. I think I read that he gets $4 mil this year regardless of what he does. Not sure how that worked but theoretically he could sign on with the Bears and still be paid like he was with Dallas without being in Dallas. As far as him coming to Chicago, and as I was saying in another thread, both Palmer and Clausen would have to flop something fierce before it's considered. I don't know that they'll keep three QBs on the active roster anyhow. Fales, if he makes it, will probably end up on the PS. Of the two remaining, Clausen probably has the better shot because of his connection to Trestman. -
Not that it answers 'how they're doing in camp ' but I saw a video report, that I can't seem to find, from D-line coach Pasquoloni. He was giving great feedback on both of them and their work ethic. That and how well they are adapting to the pro life. Sounds like he thinks pretty highly of both.

Indeed. With Fuller being a first rounder it is good to see him being opportunistic this early in camp. I'm sure he would (will) perform the same when given first team starts. It just doesn't speak well to a player that has been in the 'system' (Palmer) when competing against one that hasn't (Clausen). I'm personally not a fan of Clausen's but am willing to see how he works out in a support role. FWIW I think Morgan (unfortunately) is a lost cause. So hearing murmurs of the possibility in bringing back Orton in a back up role(?). I suspect that would only occur if both Palmer and Clausen fail miserably. Still a bit of time to determine that.
