Mad, I think it safe to say that you have an axe to grind for Smith. I know many here do. I understand it, don't agree with it, but respect it. I realize that he (Smith) has a timeline this year to work with, I'm good with that. My "bottom line" is that Cutler is paid to do a job and although he was harrassed his fair share the other day, his throws without looking to see if there is even a receiever in the area is inexcusable. I heard not all that long ago in the big scheme of things, Cutler isn't the highest sacked QB. And a few others that are higher rated, have had success. Roethlisberger and Rodgers are two that were mentioned. In fact here's a graph to illustrate my point. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/lead...perc_active.htm To read it the higher sacked QB's are at the bottom of the list, the lesser at the top. You'll see of the 43 listed, Cutler is 23rd ranked. In fact Rodgers, Roethlisberger and Flacco have been sacked more yet managed to accomplish better results in their respective time frames. So, are Smith, Tice, Emery, Virginia or even Martz responsible for Cutler's bad playing? No, not completly. Is Cutler soley responsible for his poor play? No. But he is certainly the most responsible for himself and HIS abilities. So to settle our obvious disagreeement of Cutler vs Smith, I think it safe to say that how goes Cutler this year, so goes Smith.

Good answer. I would have added..."also".

This is one of several reasons I like Lovie. He chooses to take care of things internally rather than air their dirty laundry. It's really none of our concern how he addressed it and to who. Just that "they" will get their collective crap together. It will be borne out with the next game whether it has it's desired effect.
-
I'll take him for his word that things are "settled" and wait to see how things play out with the next few games. I really want to believe in Cutler and hope he's able to get the support he needs while he continues to try and become the leader he needs to be. I believe I heard Urlacher even suggested they (the team) are waiting for him to become the leader they expect him to be. We shall see.

DJ Moore throwing Cutler under the bus...
Alaskan Grizzly replied to madlithuanian's topic in Bearstalk
Are you serious? If "the team moves to Campbell, they have no desire to win"? You're right in that Cutler and Campbell are not the same as Campbell seems to be an upstanding type of fellow. What if Cutler continues his Jekyll and Hyde routine (more Hyde than Jekyll) would you still feel that way? Cutler is starting to prove his detractors right. As I've said before I'm a fan (of Cutlers) just not sure for how much longer. -
DJ Moore throwing Cutler under the bus...
Alaskan Grizzly replied to madlithuanian's topic in Bearstalk
So, we meet again. Im not so sure that he "threw him under the bus" as much as he is just saying what everyone is thinking. Especially in closing with if Cutler throws some completions then this will all be a distant memory. I would prefer the team deal with Mr Cutler internally; like in another article I read where it was suggested Urlacher sit down with him and tell him to grow up. In my eyes, and as much a fan I am of Cutlers, he can't afford to act like this any longer. Not with someones caliber like Campbell sitting behind him. And with his contract set to expire this year. -
Ok then, maybe this is trivial...or perhaps boorish. But throughout the whole series of GB vs Chi; Chicago leads 92-87-6.* http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bears–Packers_rivalry That would make Chicago the better team right? And if when they meet again in December and Chicago wins, is Green Bay still the better team?
-
I didn't once say I thought that Chicago was better the other night. I said GB was not and I feel they are not. In times past they may have been better, but this is a new year, a different team. You asked a lot of 'what ifs' so here's a few of my own. What if Marshall caught that pass in the endzone, what if Forte didn't get hurt, what if Carimi doesn't get that drive stalling penalty... What if GB just decided to kick a field go instead of the trick play? What if it had been blocked? What if it had been run back for a TD? We both know this game is not played and determined by "what ifs".
-
They (Packers) were not better the other night. They played just good enough to win. It was back and forth through the first two quarters. "Three downs and a cloud of dust" stuff. (Unfortunately for the Bears some penalties hurt them more than did the Packers. It wasn't until that Special Teams play when things started to turn. Sacks and turnovers were similar throughout until later in the game. Mad: they got ONE offensive TD all game. They were suppose to be the better high octane offense that the Bears (and all the NFC North for that matter) were trying to emulate. As has been the case the Bears held their own. They are NOT a better team. That night just a little better but not better overall. I know you think I'm a homer for Lovie but like you have in the past I'll give him through this season and if it doesn't trend to the playoffs, maybe he should go. He's had three (?) O coordinators in his time and despite the rantings of those like Lucky L, he's maintained a high rated defense even with a different D line each year and an aging core. Yes I am a fan but not blind to reality.

Well excusssssssseeeeee me!

I totally agree. The "no huddle" is a great tool. Jay would benefit from it big time. And perhaps learn a lesson on the right way to call out your opponent: http://m.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskin...f8eb_story.html

Really? Cutler was able to play against an apparent inferior team in the Colts and and EQUAL (yes I said equal) team in the Pack and looked like horse sh*t. The Packers are NOT better. They scored ONE offensive TD. The Bears scored ONE offensive TD. The difference in this game? Special teams and Cutler giving up (throwing 4 INTs). Yes I know "Jay was sacked 7 times" but at one point both Cutler and Rodgers had been sacked an equal number of times: 4. The result? Jay went off on his line and was sacked three more times and threw more interceptions. Rodgers? Threw more completions to his 1 int. I'm not saying Jay was sacked "intentionally" but after his display the line probably lost its desire, especially when Jay threw the ball to whomever wanted it. Lacked confidence? Perhaps. Like I said he opened his pie hole to begin with by calling out the Pack's secondary (stupid and idiotic in my book) and only reinforced it by playing like crap. He couldn't back up his bravado and he paid the price. Not just physically but image wise.
-
You could add: Pros: - The Bears have Jason Campbell (instead of Caleb Hanie) - Michael Bush - Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery - Yeah, Tim Jennings has apparently been working in the off season. He's gotten "bigger" even though he's still only 5'9" - There are still 13 more games to play, including another (at home against GB) - The Bears and Packers records are the same Cons: - Jay Cutler - J'Marcus Webb
-
Who cares if his "confidence is shot"? He had plenty going in with wishing luck to the Green Bay secondary. At least when Liam was given the opportunity he was able to back it up. "If you can talk the talk, you'd better walk the walk.". And I think Jay is getting that much closer to needing to think of doing just that.
-
They only scored 1 offensive TD. That says a lot.
-
I hate to say it, as I'm a big fan of Cutler's, I think it might be time to sit his ass and see what Campbell can do. And if he does as well as Cutler has (or better)... See ya. And for the record, Mayock is a complete and utter douche!!!
-
Sorry but I had big hopes for K Davis. He has got to go. Any way to bring back Olsen???

Direct TV is the way to go. I told my wife if she left me all I'd want is to keep that and I'd be good to go.
-
You know its funny because I saw in this string (and I agree) that the first couple of Bears' series were garbage. And listening to the announcers they said that Tice had scripted the first 10 plays. (Which is low I believe for an O coordinator). So my thought is perhaps they shouldn't script anymore plays?
-
Lovie is no Bill Belichik. In that I mean just because you COULD run up the score doesn't mean you SHOULD. That and I think Lovie was trying to rest his starters (especially URL) with the short week ahead. Nothing wrong with what Lovie did. Class play. Even the second challenge was legit. Marshall was probably convinced he had the 1st and Lovie went with it. Besides nothing really of value lost at that point. Overall, satisfying win. Will it be good enough for Thursday?

I though they terminated Booker's contract? I thought it weird since he did better than Allen. IR makes more sense but why? He get hurt?

Arbitrator overturns Saints Player suspensions
Alaskan Grizzly replied to balta1701-A's topic in Bearstalk
Hey! Welcome! Cool looking banner. I'll say having Gould in the group is acceptable but Podlesh? Really? Where the heck is Forte? How about someone like Bush or Conte? Still. Awesome looking. -
Uhm... Hello? See reply above yours...

I may regret doing this but I agree that Williams is the better option. Like I noted before (think it was game two against Wash) the team was doing two person swaps throughout the game. I believe Williams and Rachal were paired up and Webb and Spencer were the other. Whenever Williams and Rachal were in it seemed that the team got better results. I did ask later, would have Webb benefited from having Rachal with him? I honestly didn't notice if the two of them worked together during the preseason. If for nothing else I want to see a first rounder (Williams in this case) do something noteworthy for his pick. And in the broader scheme of things in a few of the other games I watched where the Bears weren't playing in. I noticed several times the commentators say something along the lines of "this line needs time to gel" or "the line has been having a hard time protecting X quarterback". So is it just the Bears that are suffering this issue? Or is it becoming more the trend? Defenses are emphasizing more on the pass rush..because the NFL is becoming a "pass oriented" league these days.

Arbitrator overturns Saints Player suspensions
Alaskan Grizzly replied to balta1701-A's topic in Bearstalk
I can't read the link but did see a blurb on a newswire about it. FWIW, I think its unfortunate. The fact these guys were INTENTIONALLY trying to hurt other players is near criminal. And that they were ONLY suspended is being let off easy. If you or I had started a "bounty" for hurting others, we would be sitting in jail....and probably become unemployed.
