i believe it was a legitimate question by the media that had to be asked that most everyone knew wouldn't be answered. I think that it was OBVIOUSLY a bad call, because it didn't work out. Had it worked out, then Martz would have been genius. If for only one play. Again, Lovie's point being that. Sometimes the risks don't equal the rewards. And if I'm not mistaken, Cutler pointed out that he thought Martz was testing Hanie to see his limits and will more than likely tweak the offense more to his style. And, all things considered (especially with three INT's) to only lose by 5 is not all that horrible. doesn't lovie even watch what is going on offensively in practice or get a legitimate idea what the freaking game plan is from his offensive coordinator prior to gameday? is it some kind of surprise to him every week what our offense does on the field? Don't know, as I'm not on the sideline or at practice. But I gotta believe some sort of conversation is going on. The team was on a 5 game winning streak and are still "in the hunt". so just what is his job description to you if he needs no knowledge of offense or defense? if he is not responsible for whether the offense or defense works week to week,as far as defense, this IS lovie's show. I agree that Lovie is more inclined to comprehend better the Defense but BECAUSE he is neihter the O or D coordinator, he is not responsible for designing the play, just for the implementing and outcome. And ultimately he takes responsibility for all of it, especially after the game. And if he chooses not to answer the questions from the media, so be it. didn't we see rivera fired because he wanted to expand on other defensive ideas and concepts? Again, don't know. Not sure that is why he was "fired". I do know that Ron Turner was let go for failing at what he was supposed to be doing. Babich was ultimately replaced by Marinelli because he too was ineffective, or at least something wasn't clicking. this idea of lovie being appreciated by the players to me is just not that important to me... So? To me, if I were a player, it would be more important that I got along with my coach rather than despise him. Not sure who your idyllic coach would be but whomever they were I'm sure they would have many flaws that could be brought up. I'm not sure what it is exactly you don't like about Lovie but he is the Head Coach and the team is and has done well under his leadership. Those results are fact.

I knew you'd break eventually. The guy seems to be a class act. Does he frustrate me sometimes? You bet. But I still like what and who he is. As far as JA (no not Jack A**) the other one, I'm right there with you. I would be fine with both he and Martz leaving next year.

I think you're mistaking Lovie being curt with him bailing on the media. What I take it as his him saying "hindsight" is indeed 20/20" and it is easy to critique, or in this case, question a call(s) that didn't work. Conversely, if it does work the coach is called a wizard, a brain, a prodigy, etc. etc. And the media doing so is lazy and repetitive, which I believe is the point Lovie is trying to make. I think it not surprising that many here will recall several weeks ago, after New Orleans(?), that Martz "got it" finally and began to adjust the offense. There were stories that Lovie talked to him behind the scenes (like last year) to get him to adjust. And he did. What would he a complish by admonishing Martz, or any coach for that matter, in public only for the media to feast on? That is not effective leadership or management. That was the point of the article. "2. does it also lead one to believe that lovies knowledge of an offense is practically zero? how can you criticize something you have no clue about?". I believe Lovies title is 'Head Coach'. Not Offensive Coordinator or even Defensive Coordinator. What knowledge, speculatively, does he need? I think until Oakland things were going pretty well for the previous 5 weeks on offense. So Hanie had a rough go at it and somehow Lovie has no knowledge of offense? Hmm. And as far as Lovie being appreciated; it's the players, ownership and a couple fans that like having the team at 7-4.

This... http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...rs-coaches.html ... is why Lovie is appreciated.

HEY,...Lovie won a challenge!!!

All is not lost. I think, should Chicago lose, Hanie will have plenty to take away from this game and study for this next week. Gets to go back "home" and face the Orton(?) led Chiefs then Denver and Seattle. I can easily see a three game winning streak before the Christmas day game against Green Bay.

Barber's having a good day. Something tells me the Bears should stick with more "up the middle" plays. Barber is averaging 7.1 yds to Forte's 5.1.

If anyone is a bum...it should be someone on that Referee crew.

Sorry....Double Post

Uhm...59 yard return. Johnny Knox

I'm beginning to think that Corey Graham should become a more "regular" player.

TD Knox.

Well at least you're consistent with your negativity. Like Hanie we all just need to relax and let the game come to us. One thing I wish they would do is mute Siragusa's mike.

I say yes. I understand that he's really not all that mobile. (but who available right now is?) but he's been playing in the AFC West for the last couple years so.... Seeing how the Bears will be facing that group for the next couple weeks would be good for intel. And heck dont you think he'd like nothing more than to go back to Denver and smirk? He and Jay together?

The more we progress the more I see similarities to last years Packers. Now it's the Bears being but by the injury bug. Hopefully the team will be able to manage the situation similarly to how the Pack did.

First, the idea of NOT considering surgery...just to make the playoffs...is ridiculous. As much as I agree that Cutler would shut up all or most of his detractors if he came back its simply not worth his long term health to risk it. Another thing to consider is what kind of "fracture" is it? Is it the run of the mill clean break or is it more of a hairline or crack? The first variety would require something along the lines of a rod/pin where the latter would be more of just letting it heal. Again, we should wait to hear. With regards to Hanie playing and hope being lost, I don't buy it. So far when he has been pressed into service he has done pretty good. HE may not be as dynamic as Cutler but he is serviceable. I think the only major difference we may notice is how Hanie deals with front line pressure. Something we have been seeing Cutler deal with pretty well lately. A lot of roll outs and I swear I saw what resembled some "zone blocking" a few times yesterday. Anyhow and as before, I'll wait to see how Hanie does next week before I assume the Bears have no chance of making the playoffs.
-
As is customary, the extreme worst is assumed. Not just in the status of Cutler himself or his ability to play but also that "the season will be lost" if he is unable. A microcosm of that scenario played itself out last year in the NFC Championship game and Hanie played admirably. I side with Connor in why not wait and see what becomes of it? Didn't Cutler still throw pretty well after that INT? And continue the game? The way things are shaping up the Bears are positioning themselves to be where the Packers were last year. And with the next game against them scheduled on Christmas wouldn't it be nice to turn the tables on them for the playoffs?

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...medium=referral Looks like the team will be without Moore this weekend after spraining his ankle in practice. Graham may fill the Nickle role which, IMHO, he did pretty good in last week. Speaking of Moore. Read he was fined for the dust up with Stafford. Hope there is more to come, all things being equal. And looks like OT Jordan Black could be signed next week. Not bad.

Saw this and couldn't help but laugh. Some of the comments are spot on. It would be cool to see some of the other guys wear some orange shoes too. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8242...medium=referral

I think with the Nickel (or Roach) covering underneath the Bears are setting up to make Rodgers do the same and do more "big plays. Instead of the dink and dunk that he's gotten so good with. And with the man to man, Tillman and Jennings are playing some agressive bump coverage forcing the QB to wait that much longer. Think things will look better come Christmas.
-
Well I do know Brian Billick, during his commentating this weekend, said the Bears don't and haven't played a true Cover Two for awhile now. He said the same thing earlier this year. He said they play a "shell" cover then move out of it just before the hike of the ball. He showed a few replays where there was "single high" coverage with the FS then the SS would rotate down for man/press coverage. I've noticed there has been a lot more Nickel coverage with DJ Moore and even Corey Graham than I've seen previously. So in a nutshell, yeah I think they have gone more to "man-man" than in the past. Probably a lot of the reason why Tillman is having such a great year. Just hope that Jennings can keep up with what he's been doing so far.

I just saw an ad on the replay that might work: iTunes.com/nfl Apparently there are highlights and full games there for each team.

Well, like was said before this was a bad game to really gauge (overall) how effective the O was and in that same breath ..the playcalling. I mean you had two TDs from the D and another from ST so what else needed to be done? The Lions did put together some sustained drives late in the game but by then not a whole lot mattered. That and Stafford still turned the ball over. One of which was an INT in the endzone. As far as Martz goes, he does seem to be adapting still. He's trying. Amazing what a talk from the HC and "getting the message" from the fans and media will do to someone's playcalling. I think what turns Martz off to people is when he is bound and determined to pass, come hell or high water and insist Jay do the 7 step drop. With things like screens, bootlegs/rollouts and more Forte it is clear that Martz is at least trying.
