FWIW I'm hoping to see more of Sanborn in the middle for a bit longer, and I like Edmunds. If we need pressure on Goff this next weekend that (and Sweat) is where it'll come from. I am curious to see how Sewell fits into the defense. He is listed as the #2 behind Sanborn at his position so they must like the NB option over having Sewell play right now.

Detroit made some significant halftime adjustments yesterday. It was actually cool to see a team effectively do that . After pinning 175 rushing yards on the Chargers in the first half the Lions’ well ran dry and they asked Goff to do more with passing. It is incredible how accurate (see dangerous) he is when given time. They also used ESBs brother Amon in some gimmick plays (reverse jet sweeps and the like) and were matching Herbert TD for TD. Although LAs defense was ranked in the top 5 against the run (before yesterday) the Bears are still there and are getting help from the defensive backfield. I’d have to think with the improved pass rush (3 sacks, 9 QB rushes and 6 tackles for loss last week) Montez Sweat and crew will be on a mission to hurry Goff. I’m not confident of a win but I don’t know that it’ll be a blowout. For me the big key will to see Justin continue to play solid.

I saw a video earlier that read something about how Williams would be a better QB because of all the plays he makes in college. Problem was the video they were using were highlight videos of Justin in his OSU days. One thing I go back to time and again is looking at Justin’s collegiate record . He was something like 22-2 overall with a 5-1 (I think) record against SEC teams. He made the playoffs in each of his last two seasons and played damn good in those games against other top NATIONALLY ranked teams. From what I’ve seen is Williams withers on the vibe when he plays against top 10 teams and Maye aside from having one more “starting” season at UNC, all I can think is Trubisky 2.0.

Triggered much? You’re right. I did it for laughs because I think the “experts” are as wrong as anyone else. The term “generational” player, especially with regards to QBs when the “experts” say it is not only hyperbole it’s laughable. I’ll ask again, where were these experts with their generational tag with Tom Brady and hell Peyton Manning? And right now everyone’s excited about CJ Stroud and all the things he’s doing in Houston. Where was his pre-draft hype? My point was moreso about the “can’t miss” 1st round draft picks at QB the “experts” keep telling us about and really how ridiculous they sound when they say “generational”.

So who is “that guy” for Chicago?
-
Between 2007-18 the Browns drafted 5 “generational” QBs. None of them worked out. We’ve done this now twice since 2017. (And this coming from a guy who generally thinks 1st round picks should be used on skill players). I should add I’m a fan of getting a QB like McCarthy (from Michigan) but not until later in the draft. One thing a lot of people are dismissing is how well Justin was playing before he got hurt. In those games he threw for 617 yards, 8TDs with 1 INT. Also since that time the Bears have increased their running game to 4th overall in the NFL and their defense is ranked 14th overall (2nd in the rush game). What was the common thread with this team early in the season (if you exclude two coaches getting fired)? The defense was playing with third string players, the oline was a mess and Getsy was making questionable calls (one of those three things hasn’t changed). My belief is you need to build better around Justin and stockpile draft picks. And probably change some coaches. If Justin’s thumb doesn’t become a factor, I think we’re in for a great close out to this season.
-
So let’s draft an unproven “generational” talent and start over. ?

We had better be ready for Jahmyer Gibbs. He’s running all over the Chargers’ (currently) 6th ranked rush defense. Update: Just got his second rushing TD of the day. Detroit had the ball one other time between those TDs and tried two times with Montgomery to run in inside the 5 and were stuffed. Update #2: Lions have 175 yard rushing at the half. This includes one 75 yard TD run by Monty.

FWIW I share in this optimism. I still think they need a more creatively thinking Offense mind in the room, whether that be at the OC or HC. With the defense improving (and playing decent enough with third stringers) you have to think Flus might be the one who can be salvaged.

Fields would be lighting things up if he was we playing. Seems like Bagent has gone stagnant since the 4th quarter of last week. Doesn’t look as crisp as he’s been for most of the last three games. -

Tyler Scott is a keeper -
Curious. How do Justin’s numbers compare to other starting QBs? I’m sure there are some outliers like Tua or even Cousins but you’d have to consider the “big picture”. IE: Cousins’ rank of 86.7 (I think I looked it up correctly) doesn’t reflect his team is still below .500 despite his production. Im frankly surprised that Johnson’s ranking is as high as it is. He hasn’t been spectacular … with the “eye test” anyhow. And in the ‘regardless of snap count’ category, I’d have to think Velus Jones is near 0.

Are these pure snap counts or production related to a certain number of snap counts?

After the last few weeks it’s Foreman at RB. And having Sanborn back to the MLB last week shows he’s much better there than off center. Another player I’m impressed with is the WR (rookie) Scott. He’s made some impressive catches and in a video clip of last week I saw him giving Cameron Jordan all he had to block him out. https://x.com/butkusstats/status/1721619044707512680?s=46&t=KrpJmhSTc4DI1sACtjisOQ

I could see it being more a Foreman revenge game which is fine by me. -

This ⬆️And that ⬇️ Have to think if the defense was playing like they are now during that Denver game; totally different outcome. -

He’ll have a great chance against 1-6 Carolina (currently) after a good “rest” and will be home. -

Considering how many TOs they had and penalty yards (8/71) the defense has played well enough to keep us in the game. Two TOs resulted in 10 pts but you can’t ask for much more from a defense playing for a 2-7 team against a 5-4 team at their home. -

Cut or put him on the PS and keep him there at the very least. -

I’d think the one pass to Kmet was a short duck but the other two were behind the receiver. Especially the one to Scott. -

Yeah he’s starting to look every bit the Rookie UDFA. But…still like his moxie. -

Agreed. I thought at least Ngoukue would benefit with the addition of Sweat but I literally forgot he was on the team until they mentioned his name late in the first half. Aside from that…where is he? ??♂️ -

FWIW: Mack’s 2018 deal involved a six year $135 million ($22.5 million / year) contract and a 1st and 6th year pick for 2019 and a 1st and 3rd round pick for 2020. Sweat’s deal was 4 years for $105 million ($26.25 million / year) and a 2024 2nd round pick…and that is all.
