At the risk of being redundant, if Leatherwood does have Mono and got it back in early September he’s probably just starting to become symptom-free. Because it’s such an energy-suck illness it could take him another 2-4 weeks (or all of the 21 day window) to get back up to full strength. Even then his conditioning may be lagging for being game ready . I suspect we won’t see him on the field in the next few weeks. In a related note, I see the team is still holding at 52 (for the roster) with LB Adams on IR.

Week 6 Thur Night Football Bears vs. Commanders

We might see Jaylon Johnson back and a play or two with N’Keal Harry. I’m hoping he adds another realistic option for Fields. Sucks that it’s a quick turnaround but at least it’s in Chicago. I have more confidence in Fields than I do Wentz at this point. Im not sure he’s the reason they’re losing but I’m certain he’s not the reason for winning . -

Not to ‘beat the dead horse’ that is post-game analysis, but since a lot more people seem to be noticing the progression Justin is making, why not continue the vibe? Below is a link to a Bleacher Report story with three different analysis’ of how well Justin did Sunday. The Tom Thayer one is mostly focused on how Kmet is getting more involved and because of it, helping Justin get better. (I’m getting some Mahomes / Kelce vibes). One play he missed but I think was extremely pivotal in evidence of Justin’s improvement was late in the game (think a play or two before the game ending fumble). It resembled the second play Thayer talks about but this time the protection broke down and for half a second you could tell Justin thought about taking off and running. But instead, after talking a step or two he saw Kmet cross in front of him and dumped it for a sizable gain. There’s no doubt Fields is getting more comfortable and Kmet is becoming a big piece is that progression. Of course Mooney’s spectacular one-handed catch also helped. ? -
Wasn’t sure where else to put this so I started one. Probably means we’ll see more of Sanborn(?). Think they’ll add anyone else, anywhere?

A sample of what Justin was (and has been) up against. Watch the whole left side of the line and of course Mustipher. (Of who I’m rescinding my support of). -

Don't doubt that one bit. Especially if (when) Harry gets back and is productive. Of course at this point Pettis is making as good a case to get cut so there's that. -

Despite having his own struggles early on Fields was asked about Smith-Marsette and his own struggles yesterday. JF is our QB guys…. -
Another positive spin: Bears have the same record as last years SB winner at 2-3.

How best to summarize this game? Short term loss, long term win. Bears came out the second half and played a helluva lot better than in the first half. Fields ended up being 15/21 for 208 and 1 TD 0 INT. Defense showed up with an INT and a fair amount of pressure. -

Starting the second half a whole lot better than the first. Nice work Justin. Id be curious to see if the stats support the Bears being a better second half team. Seems they improve as the game continues. -

And Pettis drops his third pass in a row. If you count the one he dropped last week. -

The play calling (aka coaching) is also failing him. Both offensive starts we’re shit. The first one missing a player in the formation and the second was Mustipher hiking to Fields who wasn’t ready. There’s A LOT more going on than just Justin having a hard time learning to be a pro. And the D has been absolutely pitiful. There’s plenty of blame to go around. -

Looks like the adjustment for Jenkins is working. -
I agree with this absolutely.

I'm of the opinion that at some point they may need to see what Simien can do. I'm not suggesting he start in the place of Fields immediately just that before they go out and make a mistake in drafting another QB, they see what he can offer. I still think the focus should be on higher caliber players surrounding the QB, whoever that may be. I feel they owe it to Fields and to Simien. As has been brought up already, this regime did not draft Fields but they did sign Simien. I suspect if we see him later in the year, that could be an indication of what they're thinking for next year. For what its worth I'll reiterate not only my belief in Fields but that they should give him the majority (if not all) of his rookie deal before they consider giving up totally.

This is intriguing. If you don’t have Twitter. It’s a screen shot of the Bears starting oline for this weekend. Has Patrick at Center and rookie Ja’Tyre Carter at LG. Others are saying that ESPN is a bit premature to “predict the starting oline”. However it makes some sense. Guess we’ll see. And I read that Montgomery was at practice today. -

I think for the offense to click (better), they need to get a better oline out there. Does it involve moving Patrick to Center? Maybe. If he does then who at guard? Why do we have players like Schofield and Reiff if they’re not going to be used? I get we need the younger players to develop but at the expense of the QB getting clobbered on every other play? Will V Jones play (other than muffing punts)? Will we see Harry play? I’m hoping either of these two (or both) are able to help the offense in some way. And I’m afraid now is the time to get what you can for Quinn. He’s been a non-factor since week one. Love the guy but without a player like Mack opposite him I think this is the best we’re gonna get. -
Some good, some not so good news.
-
After he provided all the scoring for our team last weekend with very little prep (yes I know he’s a kicker) he deserves this.

If this becomes true, we will officially become the new Cleveland Browns. For the record I don’t think it will.

Just sayin. Most would have written Goff off regardless of his past stats. Just yesterday I (sorta) compared Fields to Stafford and highlighted he has a Super Bowl win to his accomplishments. It’s possible it was a one time deal but it also proves If in the right system, any QB can succeed. Just ask Trent Dilfer, Joe Flacco, Nick Foles or even Rex Grossman. Who didn’t win a super bowl but certainly got there while playing “in the right system (balance)”. I think Justin can too if given the chance and a better overall supporting cast.

Here’s something to ponder (saw this on a YouTube short today - will try to link it). Detroit leads the NFL (so far) in total points (140) and has the most total yards (1,747). All with Jared Goff who is third in the NFL with 1,126 passing yards and tied for the lead with 11 TDs thrown.

More “ugly” news with Whitehair “out for some time” with apparent knee injury.

Fields compared to Stafford when they play SF this year. Stafford: 254 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 71 RTG Fields: 121 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 85.7 RTG Fields played against this defense during a monsoon and hasn’t won a Super Bowl.
