  1. Sloppy first half all around. Justin off target, both Getsy and Flus making questionable calls (3 TOs left at the end of half? among them). And defense earning another pile of loafs. How they’re only down by one is a bit surprising. At least Santos has been on point.
  2. Color me intrigued if both Sanborn and Weatherford start in place of Smith and Adams. I think we’ve seen what Sanborn is capable of and I’d be curious to see how Weatherford plays in the position. Looks like he played Safety in college (Univ-Ohio at Miami) so he’s a rangy speedy player. If memory serves so was Sanborn. Would be cool to see two former UDFAs (as of this year mind you) put on a good show. Playing against a team like Houston right now might just be perfect timing to try them out and give Roquan an extra week of rest.
  3. Well for one Roquan would have a shaky case for a HUGE contract extension. But I think we’d need to see more (than just one or two games) from the backups long before that came the standard.
  4. Being a history buff I was curious what that was too. Thought maybe a Decatur Staley reference from their days in the ‘20s - nope. Best as I can tell it may have something to do with a mens wear company called Staple design. Found this hat with a similar logo. Here’s a link to their clothing line: https://www.staplepigeon.com/pages/categories
  5. Indeed. I didn’t watch the whole game but did see a few series. In one I saw Dionte Johnson streaking down the sideline and Trub put a really nice ball just in front of him only to drop it. The second was a similar pass play to George Pickens who made an OBJ like catch along the sideline. Both throws were nice back shoulder passes but these were not ‘sum of parts’ moments. At that point I thing Mitchell was 7/11(?) for one-fifty-something no TDs. I’d agree he seems to be about the same he always has been.
  6. Good possibility we may see LB Sanborn play this week. This maybe explains why Smith has been a bit slow. Hips don’t lie. ?
  7. For as close as they were all that really needed to be done was Justin getting right under center, stand up, lean in and extend the ball forward. Or have Blasingame ramrod it. ‘shoulda, coulda, didn’t’
  8. Not sure whether this was brought up in the presser:
  9. I have to believe this is part is the grand plan. With more than a 50% roster turnover and 6 (?) rookies starting the team is conditioning itself early. Trying to get game time experience for the rooks so when they start later this year and in year two, things will look much better. Not every rookie will come out of the gate as a superstar so expectations may be a bit high. Still, if they collectively improve before those season is over, even better for us. And for what it’s worth I really wish they could’ve kept Graham. As much of a fan as I was of Vildor early on, after Grahams performance last year I’d have preferred to see how he did versus Vildor this year.
  10. So one comparison (Prescott) is out indefinitely for the season and the other was a whisker away from winning the Super Bowl last year? Seems we still need time this year to see how this shakes out.
  11. The more I think about this, I think Fields and Hurts are on similar trajectories. After last night I'm more comfortable in thinking Hurts is (or could be) a legitimate NFL QB. I liked him coming out of college for the similar reasons I like Fields. One of those variables was that they both were measurably successful in big school programs. Interestingly enough Fields transferred early in his career to Ohio State because Fromm was going to continue being the starter in Georgia whereas Hurts transferred later in his career to Oklahoma because Tua essentially took over in Alabama. Both have had their doubters both in college and now in the NFL. I think Hurts is just starting to emerge and I think Fields will too given more time. As a quick aside, I had forgotten that Philly acquired WR AJ Brown in the offseason. Hurts has both he and his old buddy from Alabama, Devonta Smith, on the team. No wonder he's getting better. I think with a few more pieces Justin could be right there too.
  12. This and “Fields hasn’t even played a full season yet” are spot on. You mentioned the quick underneath routes and timing routes need to be mixed in for Justin to succeed more. Perhaps with Getsy having a handful of years with Rodgers he’s expecting Justin to be more like him now. Instead he should do the ‘crawl, walk, run’ method with his game planning. I’m not at all suggesting he keep him in “Football 101” for 2-3 years (like Trubisky) but coach him up a little better and not assume he’s where Rodgers was at last year.
  13. Had to edit my last post…forgot Detroit won a game too. Just goes to show ‘any given Sunday(Monday/Thursday)’.
  14. After tonight, the Bears are in a four way tie for the division lead. ?
  15. I think Gordon played mostly nickel last night. I’d prefer we see him more on the outside and Vildor (or someone else) inside.
  16. You’re letting the post-Packer-loss-Monday-blahs get the best of you. There is no way Fields is worse than Trubiksy…in the long run. As far as his passing technique, they mentioned that last night. This year brought on a whole new foot placement compared to what he’s been doing his whole career. Doing that can knock things out of whack enough it may take some time to adjust. His work ethic paired with his talent, he’ll figure it out.
  17. I could see the team at 6-6 (or better) by the time they see the Pack again in week 13.
  18. The only stat that GB beat the Bears in was Receiving yards and TDs. GB had 203 total rushing yards to the Bears 180. When you consider they have two starting caliber RBs and our team right now has one, that 23 yards difference really isn't that huge. Montgomery had 122 yards (8.1 avg) to Jones 132 yds (8.8 avg). Jones also had one TD to Montgomery's zero. If you compare the "second RBs" it was Herbert's 38 yds (9.5 avg) to Dillon's 61 yds (3.4 avg). To me the fact the Bears didn't run more is what hurt them in the end. This was something we all harped on last year especially when we saw Nagy abandon it way too often and force the pass. As we saw in the SF game, you have to have the run game work in order for the pass game to become a factor. If you don't you become one-dimensional. As far as the difference between TDs and Receiving yards, that's basically comparing Rodgers to Fields. For what its worth, they were both sacked the same amount of times (3) but Aaron has more experience in reading defenses and knowing where his receivers will be and how to exploit coverage weaknesses (aka rookie CBs) versus Fields' relative inexperience. Something to remember, Rodgers was not considered the starting QB for GB until 2008, three years after he was drafted in 2005. (How old was Fields in 2008?) Fields and the "baby Bears" (as Tirico kept referring to them last night - I don't like it by the way) have a lot of growing to do. The next few weeks play to their favor as far as schedules go. And like Stinger said, I'd rather compare the last half the season to the first half to see the growth the team makes.
  19. Gorton had a tough night. They exploited him. He had a few good plays but a few tough ones too. The run d was nearly non-existent. Gipson backed up his trash talk with 2 sacks and nearly a third, but not the win. Both the Bears and Packers are 1-1. GB plays TB next and the Bears play Houston.
  20. This I would agree with. If Justin is able to put up similar stats each year I’d agree he’s the better of the two. Justin has more mobility and just the little sample he showed last week, pretty good read of the field. I think Herbsret mentioned the other night that it took a year or two for Herbert to start actually getting his progressions. Seems to be that Justin is doing that pretty well already.
  21. I’d rather see how Fields does in year two before I think he’s better than Herbert. Herbert threw in the neighborhood of 4,300 yard his rookie year and just over 5,000 last year. His play last night was really gritty, especially at the end (I have no doubt Justin is too). That pick six he threw last night was a calamity of errors. The play previous TE Everett had made a huge gain then immediately was trying to get off the field when he got up from the tackle. But because they were in hurry up, he went back in and didn’t run a great route. Either the coach or Herbert should’ve realized he wasn’t ready to play, especially if they knew he was going to be the hot receiver. Maybe Herbert should’ve looked him off, maybe Everett should’ve sucked it up. ??‍♂️
  22. Probably a different “interview”. His trash talk was repeated a few other places. As long as he backs it up on Sunday and keeps the pressure. I’d like for the Bears to be ‘dis-owned’ by Rodgers.
