  1. Bears | Linkenbach invited for pre-draft visit Comment (0) Mon, 08 Mar 2010 19:52:53 -0800 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the Chicago Bears have a pre-draft visit scheduled with University of Cincinnati OT Jeff Linkenbach. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bears | Expected to take a look at R. Johnson Comment (0) Mon, 08 Mar 2010 19:52:33 -0800 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the Chicago Bears are expected to bring in Utah FS Robert Johnson for a pre-draft visit. The Bears' West Coast scout Marty Barrett was at the school's Pro Day Monday, March 8. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  2. Lito Sheppard lines up suitors Posted by Mike Florio on March 8, 2010 2:40 PM ET Cut last week by the Jets, veteran cornerback Lito Sheppard is looking for a new home. We're told that two teams are in the mix for his services. Per a league source, the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears have expressed interest. To date, no visits have been scheduled. Sheppard was traded last year from the Eagles to the Jets. The eight-year veteran appeared in 11 regular-season games with nine starts in 2009. He started eight in a row before being removed from the starting lineup for the AFC title game.
  3. Ryan Clark negotiated with the Pittsburgh Steelers this week to see if he could hammer out a longterm extension but that didn’t happen and the free agent is drawing pretty solid interest early in free agency. His agent Joel Turner declined to name the teams involved but said six clubs, including the Steelers, are involved at this point. Obviously, Arizona and Chicago would be on a very short list of teams seeking safeties with Miami and the New York Giants also in the market. Washington, where Clark used to play, could also be looking for a safety. “Everyone is gaga over Antrel Rolle,” Turner said. “Ryan is a better player. He’s got better numbers across the board.” Turner said they are in no rush to make a deal and are seeking the right fit and the right contract. Clark is considered a savvy veteran and one personnel veteran compared him to Mike Brown from his playing days with the Bears.
  4. IMHO Taylor won't get more carries the Forte he will be used like Benson was when we had him and Jones. We need two good backs to take us way into the playoff hunt late in Dec when we are running the ball and trying to control the clock. The Cowboys have three backs that could start on any team.It will only help us not hurt at all.
  5. NFL | Baskett receiving interest Comment (0) Sat, 06 Mar 2010 13:14:43 -0800 Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports unrestricted free-agent WR Hank Baskett (Colts) is receiving interest from at least three teams including the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams and Philadelphia Eagles, according to a league source.
  6. 1 IMHO Olsen will fit because he is fast enough to play on the outside and in the slot. Actually we have four TE that can catch Manumaleuna, Davis,Clark, & Olsen 2. Lance Louis is now a lineman OG type and you will not be seeing him at TE. Now we can go four wide with the WR with Hester, DA and either Bennet/Knox & or Olsen
  7. LOL You are right, but Jones will get his walking papers now that we signed Taylor and so will AP
  8. Bears | Taylor looking forward to playing against Minnesota Comment (1) Fri, 05 Mar 2010 15:58:36 -0800 Brad Biggs, of The Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears RB Chester Taylor said one of the factors in choosing to sign with the Bears was the chance to play against the Minnesota Vikings, his former team, twice per year.
  9. IMHO we should go after Clark from the Steelers. He love to hit people (like Mike Brown did against Pollard from the Lions)and can cover some ground. Then maybe Atogwe. Hell with Peppers, Briggs Urlacher and Clark we are talking MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY again
  10. LOL yes we do but i think he wont be there
  11. Wilson seems like a good fit for the Bears. Or can we go with Clark from Pittsburg or Atogwe from the Rams
  12. Redskins interested in Rex Grossman Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 1:06 PM ET It's fitting, we suppose, that a year after the Broncos welcomed with open arms a failed former Bears quarterback, the former Broncos coach would be interested in another one. A league source tells us that the Washington Redskins are interested in Rex Grossman. Grossman, a first-round draft pick in 2003, left the Bears for the Texans in 2009. He won the backup job behind Matt Schaub, who had a Pro Bowl season. The offensive coordinator last year in Houston, Kyle Shanahan, is now the offensive coordinator in Washington. (Thanks, Rosenthal, for pointing out something I should have realized on my own. Sleep deprivation and/or age is a bitch.) We're not quite sure, but we think we just heard a loud chorus of profanity from 240 miles away from our location in North Central West Virginia. For his career, the boom-or-bust Grossman has a passer rating of 69.5. He led the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006, with a passer rating of 73.9.
  13. Taylor says he didn't demand to be the starter in Chicago Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 5:36 PM ET Running back Chester Taylor, who jumped Friday from the Vikings to the Bears, told Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times that the veteran didn't condition his decision on being the starter. "I didn't come here like that," Taylor said. "[Matt Forte's] a great player. I'll come in with the mindset that we're teammates, but we'll compete." Right, but Taylor contract suggests that he's the top man on the totem pole, and that Forte is now the secondary player. Regardless of who's No. 1 or No. 2, Taylor realizes the importance of spreading the load. "Running backs go down a lot. You got to have two maybe three running backs," Taylor said. "It's a long season." But he made it clear his goal was in part to "play a lot more." And he wasn't going to play any more than he had played the past three years with Adrian Peterson in Minnesota.

Bears | Manumaleuna agrees to terms Comment (0) Fri, 05 Mar 2010 07:07:28 -0800 Jeff Dickerson, of ESPNChicago.com, reports the Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with unrestricted free-agent TE Brandon Manumaleuna (Chargers) on a five-year deal, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  15. Bears | Comment (0) Thu, 04 Mar 2010 21:53:04 -0800 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports free-agent TE Brandon Manumaleuna (Chargers) will visit the Chicago Bears Friday, March 5.
  16. Since it was reported that the Bears are out of the race for the high priced Rolle who should we go after either Atogwe from the Rams, Clark from the Steelers or even Sharper from the Saints. Who would you pick for the upgrade?
  17. Chester Taylor visiting Bears on Friday, too Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 12:48 AM ET Defensive end Julius Peppers won't be the only potential new Bears who's hanging out at Halas Hall on Friday. Running back Chester Taylor will be there, too. Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Taylor is expected to visit the Bears on the first day of free agency. In the Mike Martz offense, Taylor could be a Mike Martz/Priest Holmes-style weapon, given his ability to catch the ball. Except when it's squirting out of his hands, and then being intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Redskins out, Bears in for Peppers Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 12:32 AM ET Not even 30 minutes into the launch of the free agency period, ESPN's Adam Schefter says that there's a "league-wide expectation" that defensive end Julius Peppers is heading to the Bears. Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports that a visit already has been arranged, and that Peppers has a "strong interest" in joining Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, and Tommie Harris on the Chicago defense. Bryant McKinnie just peed a little. Meanwhile, a league source tells us that the Redskins are out. For most of the first half hour of free agency, G.M. Bruce Allen was communicating with persons other than Peppers' agent, Carl Carey. We've spoken with Lance Zierlein of KGOW and the Houston Chronicle regarding the change, given that Zierlein was convinced Peppers would be heading to D.C. -- and given that Zierlein had it nailed last year regarding the signing of Albert Haynesworth by the Redskins. Zierlein says that, even though everything was pointing to the Redskins and Peppers on Thursday night, "something happened" to put the Bears in the driver's seat. It could be that Peppers simply wants to play for Rod Marinelli, and that he wants to avoid a 3-4 defense. Bears drop out of race for Rolle Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 5, 2010 12:13 AM ET With the Bears' having swinging for the fences for Julius Peppers, we're hearing Chicago has dropped out of the Antrel Rolle sweepstakes. Rolle is seeking to make $8-million-per-season, which would make him the highest paid safety in the league. That was deemed too rich by the Bears. It now looks like a three-team race, with the Cardinals a big underdog to the Giants and Dolphins. It's worth noting that New York's interest in Rolle could indicate some serious concern about Kenny Phillips' recovery. And Miami's interest doesn't sound good for Gibril Wilson's future with the Dolphins. As free agency opens, Bears plan to "come out swinging" for Peppers Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 12:01 AM ET Amid rumors that the Redskins are making a big push for defensive end Julius Peppers, we're now hearing that the Chicago Bears plan to "come out swinging" in the hopes of landing the consensus top free agent in the 2010 class. A league source tells us that the numbers have gotten to the point where the Eagles have dropped out, and that the Seahawks were never serious players for Peppers. Peppers' choice should be about more than money. In Chicago, he'd be operating in a 4-3 defense as an end. In Washington, he'll most likely move to outside linebacker in a 3-4. So stay tuned. The market is open, and the shoppers are streaming into the store. Permalink 26 Comments
  18. Bears | C. Taylor to visit Friday Comment (0) Thu, 04 Mar 2010 21:12:34 -0800 Sean Jensen, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports free-agent RB Chester Taylor (Vikings) is expected to visit the Chicago Bears Friday, March 5, according to a league source. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bears | Peppers to visit Friday Comment (0) Thu, 04 Mar 2010 21:12:16 -0800 Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports free-agent DE Julius Peppers (Panthers) has agreed to visit the Chicago Bears Friday, March 5, according to agent Carl Carey. The Bears are considered the frontrunner to land Peppers. Read more: http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl#ixzz0hHKZiZVr
  19. Rolle expected to visit Giants Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 4, 2010 11:17 PM ET Antrel Rolle is taking full advantage of his head start to free agency. The latest: Rolle is expected to visit with the Giants Friday morning, assuming he doesn't sign a contract before then. Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel writes that Rolle was offered a five-year contract by the Dolphins. Chris Mortensen is hearing that the Rolle sweepstakes will come down to the Giants and Dolphins. (Even though the Bears were negotiating first.) Soon-to-be former Cardinals teammate Darnell Dockett has an idea what's going to happen. "I just talked to Antrell Rolle!! And I already know what's about to happen, mann I'm speechless I'm going to Bed. I'm done with twitter BYE!" Clearly, OCNN has a lot to teach Dockett about scoopage. Peppers-to-Redskins rumors go to full boil Posted by Mike Florio on March 4, 2010 10:22 PM ET Less than two hours until the start of free agency, rumors are flying that the Washington Redskins will soon be signing defensive end Julius Peppers. The thinking had been that, if the Redskins decide they want Peppers, they'll get Peppers. It just wasn't clear whether the Redskins want Peppers. Our pal Lance Zierlein of KGOW in Houston has reported, via Twitter, that the Redskins will come "charging hard" after Peppers and that he expects a deal to be done by tomorrow. Last year, Zierlein reported that the Redskins would land defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth days before it happened. And we're hearing that the situation has progressed well beyond the Redskins "charging hard." We're hearing it's essentially done -- and that barring an unexpected development the only question is whether the deal will be announced before or after the sun rises in D.C. That's bad news for the Bears, who had planned to make a strong push for Peppers. Land rush for Antrel Rolle Posted by Mike Florio on March 4, 2010 8:40 PM ET Now that a $4 million roster bonus and an $8 million salary have gotten safety Antrel Rolle released by the Cardinals, multiple teams are hot on his trail. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that Rolle's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, currently is negotiating with the Bears. A league source has confirmed that the Bears are indeed chasing Rolle. We're also told that the Giants and Dolphins are pursuing Rolle, and that the Cardinals still hope to get him back. Rolle, a top-ten pick in the bust-filled first round of the 2005 draft, started 15 games in 2009. For his career, he has appeared in 68 games, starting 61. He entered the league as a cornerback, but he eventually was moved to safety.

  21. Bears | Negotiating for Rolle Comment (0) Thu, 04 Mar 2010 17:36:27 -0800 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the Chicago Bears are working on a deal with free-agent S Antrel Rolle (Cardinals), according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The team is actively involved in negotiations and could have a deal in place soon.
  22. Report: Olsen not on the trade block Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 3, 2010 8:33 PM ET After whispers about Greg Olsen's availability turned into a full-blown news report, it was almost inevitable a denial would emerge. This is a strong one. Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times writes the team not actively trying to trade Olsen. A league source has confirmed the report to PFT. Jensen writes that Mike Martz is still trying to wrap his mind around his new offensive pieces, and nothing has been decided. Of course, not actively trying to trade Olsen now isn't the same as not listening to offers in April. The impression is out there that some team could make a bid for Olsen. We won't find out if any are truly interested until we get closer to the draft.

  24. Bears | Interested in Marshall? Comment (0) Wed, 03 Mar 2010 09:06:48 -0800 Neil Hayes, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears could still potentially be in the running to acquire Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall in the offseason. Although general manager Jerry Angelo has said the wide receiver position is not a need for the team, one league source said Marshall could still be in a Bears uniform when training camp opens. The addition of Marshall would help QB Jay Cutler thrive in 2010. Bears | Olsen on the trading block? Comment (0) Wed, 03 Mar 2010 07:22:28 -0800 Greg A. Bedard, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports via Twitter Chicago Bears TE Greg Olsen's name has been rumored to be on the trading block. - Bears | Met with Peppers' representatives Comment (0) Wed, 03 Mar 2010 07:13:31 -0800 The Chicago Tribune reports the Chicago Bears met with the representatives of Carolina Panthers impending free-agent DL Julius Peppers last weekend, according to sources.
  25. More fun with tampering: Bears met with Peppers' agent Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 2, 2010 11:03 PM ET The Bears have taken an illegal running head start towards free agency, according to the Chicago Tribune. David Kaplan reports that the representative for Julius Peppers, Carl Carey, met with Bears brass during the NFL Scouting Combine. Carey has only one active contract in the NFL, so he's not just chit-chatting. We know: this stuff happens all the time. It happens so much, the word "tampering" isn't even in the Tribune's story. Denials will come swiftly Wednesday, but the league has to have a problem when their rules are flaunted so publicly.
