  1. Yes nice job defense, fourth and one game on the line and you STONEWALL Philly!!!
  2. He did get booed for making those silly passes missing wide open Booker throwing an int trying to hit Clark and for not tucking the ball and running when there was too much pressure. But he did make some great calls and some good throws...so it evens it out.
  3. Yes Atlanta has beaten the Cheifs and Lions but they could be dangerous with Turner Norwood. By rights and true coaching we should be 4-0 right now and not 2-2. If we play like we are playing I can see us winning the next 8 games. Falcons, Lions x 2 Vikings x 2, Rams, Titians, Packers
  4. IMHO we should be using them both Olsen and Davis. This would be a nightmare for LB trying to cover Olsen the speed & hands TE and Davis the Tall one with hands. Now if we get into the red zone what the hell are our coaches thinking by not using them.
  5. LOL no you have to gt your own LOL But just look at who we play Lions x2 Vikings titian ,Falcons, Bucs, Colts(beat them) Panthers (should have won) the Eagles are the team I thought we would lose to
  6. Oh just for the record I had the Bears after the first nine game at 8-1 with the loss being to Philly
  7. I like your post but you say we need to get some fire power on offense. We already have that we just need to use what we have. Ok try this on for size....when did you see Hester go deep? Isn't he one of the fastest on the team? When did you see the Bears use the screen pass to Wolfe...you most people can't catch.Did you see anyone use the three TE set and the bootleg pass out of it during play action.. I know for a fact because I played CB/SS in high school & college that if you are watching the QB and jumping routes, that you can get beat with a double move and pump fake. Do you remember the guy Berrian made fall on the ground with that last year for a wide open TD, and we now use the 1 yard pass to nowhere. We don't have to have STARS as you say, just good play calling and execution with the players we have. And we do have stars we just need to make them shine.
  8. IMHO I thought that we could beat the Colts because Manning didn't play a down in the preseason and was rusty and I knew we could beat Carolina but we didn't...with a 17-3 lead in the 3rd period. But to lose on a fourth and one by not giving your team the use of all the players that are making plays com on. Did you see the catch that Davis made for a TD in the pre-season game...and you have thrown him that ball how many times this year in the red zone where there is clearly a mismatch somewhere. Its things like this and the 1 yard pass that gets nothing when the DB is sitting on the route, when you are doing a good job at running the ball and instead of plat action to pass the ball you use the shotgun......just give away the plays already. But I didn't count the Lions or Vikings as playoff teams and the Packers are goging to fold after the game with the Cowboys. Oh who did the Packers beat anyway....you guessed it the Vikings and the Lions.
  9. Right now what we are is a top team playing not to lose. We have a good if not great defense and the best special teams squad, but our offense is lacking. lacking not because of talent but because of I'll play it safe mental thinking of our coaches. In the NFL you are here to win just look at Denver last week against the Chargers. Did they go for tie with the extra poinf......no they went for two and won the game. I ask you if you get off the bus running and it has worked well why don't you spin off that. MeaningPlay action passes. Lining up in the Shotgun is just telling the defense you are going to throw the ball it some point. Lovie and Turner..whoever is calling the plays need to think about what it is they are trying to do win or keep from losing. What the devil are you throwing a 1 yard quick pass when the corner is sitting on the route? Are you trying to get the ball picked off? How about using the stop and go with a pump fake.....seems to work alot to me. If Moose could get open using it then think what Hester or davis/Bradley Booker could do. I'm sorry I love this team but it seems like the coaches are letting this talent we have go to waste. We should be 2-0 with games like the Bucs, Philly, Lions, Falcons Vikings, Lions, Titans coming up. Out of the fisrt nine games we sholud be 7-2 and I said that Colts and Eagles would be the teams that would beat us. We beat the Colts so 8-1 is what we should be after nine, but we can still be 7-2. and 8-1 for than matter.
  10. IMHO to beat the Buc we must run the ball at least 30 times and use our height at TE in the red zone, because we are going to get there against this team. DO NOT GIVE MCKIE THE BALL ON 3RD OR 4TH AND 1 OR TWO! We need to use the famous play action bootleg pass to the TE that always works. If we did last week we would have won that game. 4th and one and the team is stacked for the run and a hand off to the slow a$$ fullback. Who did Turner think McKie was Jim Brown, Franco Harris,Walter, Barry.....who!!!!! LOL
  11. Hey things happen.....I'm in the military and we were on a road march and this guy in front of me broke his foot......just walking!
  12. Now that McGowan is out for the year what do we do...promote someone from the practice squad to take his place on the 53 man roster or sign someone off the FA wire. What do you think we should do. IMHO we should promote Bowman the CB since he made the 53 man roster in the first place. But do we need a back up at safety or are we happy with Brown,Payne Manning and Steltz
  13. IMHO it will be the same game as last year. But this time we have a running game and they defense is playing well. If our Defense front put pressure on McNaab then we hold Westbrook to mortal numbers then we will be fine. Thie game will boil down to how well we use the TE'S and run the ball. They have a good secondary but as you saw on TV they can be beaten deep...but the question is can we throw deep?
  14. IMHO if they sign him it just proves that they are dumb and dumber than your worst team. I would have looked else where other than Benson.

    Some good news

IHMO this was a reather interstering post. I would care to say the 60% of the NFL playeers are playing hurt on each and every Sunday after the opening game. Not paying a player because he is hurt is silly I think. After all we have paid Urlacher,Harris,Dusty, Brown,Grossman, Jones and the list goes on and that's just of our team.
  16. IMHO I really don't like either one of our QB"S but I give you this Grossman can throw better deep throw with more accuracy than Orton. Yes Orton stands in the pocket and all the other things he does but when Rex throws deep a few times teams seem to back out of the *8 man in the box and Rex loves to throw the play action pass to the TE something we need the most in the red zone.
  17. LOL!!!! You are funny man! But its so true
  18. You have to admit that this game was ours. Turner lost it for us not just the players. Fourth and one and you give the ball to McKie? Here we have a 6'7' TE sitting on the bench a 6'5' TE on the field and you do not even think about the bootleg roll out pass to either one? You are in the red zone and you use neither one of them...Turner you are a dumb OC and need to go.
  19. I agree with the blocking part but IMHO I think that we will treat this game as last week in stacking the LB in the gaps either to blitz or stop the run. They will force Jake to beat us throwing to Hackett and Moose. We will have the advantage there. We won't let there TE beat us.
  20. IMHO we need to contuine to see what Beekman has and if he can't do the job put in Dan Buenning. In no way should we allow Metcalf to play unless he has made a complete 180 in the way he blocks. From watching the bears Oline over the years I have noticed something. After the first block on the line they seem not to follow up down field with more blocking. Is this coaching or just to much time trying to block one man.
  21. Game prep? Who needs game prep we are still on cloud nine drunk from all the Baers koolaid from last week!!! LOL!!! But yes I agree with you we do need to do some things differently this week against the Panthers. We will need Forte and Jones to run outside the tackles on the edge because Carolina is pretty big up the midle. We need to use Hester/Lloyd deep against the slower Harris at saftey. Our TE will be the key in this game because I don't see either side running the ball that well. But they held LT to 98 yards, and we held him to 25 last year, so I think its just like Manning he was rusty.Forte and Jones are bigger and tougher than LT is so we might grind it out for sure. Orton will have to play the same type of game he played last week. He will no doudt throw the ball more than he did last game so he has to make the good reads and throws. If he throws it 20-30 times we will win. The line did well last week but we need to do even better against the Pantheers line. Peppers will be matched up against St.Clair and if we are smart we will use the Te to his side and chip block with a RB. This is a team the screens will kill them. Their LB other than Beason are that special so we have an advantage there. The Panthers secondary can be beaten if we make the right reads. Also we have Hester already giving the Panthers fits. They are going to try to kick away from him but in doing so he gets one and its to the house. Bears 24 Panthers 17
  22. We lost to the Lions by turn overs..otherwise they didn't do anthing special. And this year their team is not as good as it was last year IMHO. But Philly, the Titans, Jacksonville,The Saints, both games with the Packers and Vikings can be won by the Bears with our defense and who they have to stop. With Philly it's pressure McNaab and limit Westbrook. With the Jaguars its the same pressure the Qb and stop the run game. The titans are the same, but if Young is out then you have to limit their ground game, The WR aren't that special. Packers WR we need to stop and Peterson for the Vikes. Bush and Brees for the Saints. We can do it too with the way the defense is playing. I hope they contuine to do so.
  23. NFL Power Rankings, Week 2 1 Last Week: 3 Dallas Cowboys (1-0) Yes, they displaced the Patriots. Fair's fair, and Dallas' methodical dismantling of the Browns was most impressive. I started putting a stopwatch on the time Tony Romo was given to pass. Many clockings of 3.0 or better, and a couple of 4's. Most impressive. 2 Last Week: 1 New England Patriots (1-0) Well, after all, they did win. At a terrible price. How did losing Tom Brady affect the Vegas odds on winning the Super Bowl? "There never has been an injury that's had such a dramatic effect on the odds," said Bodog's Sportsbook manager, Richard Gardner. Bodog, one of the major price setters, dropped the price on the Patriots from 5-2, the shortest on the board, to 20-1, which ranked 12th. 3 Last Week: 7 Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) Big news here is Donovan looks hot. Philly insiders say his downer last year was what really held the team back, but now it's full speed ahead. 4 Last Week: 8 Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0) While AFC giants were tumbling all around them, the men of steel ho-hummed their way through a routine crushing of the poor Texans. Sunday night it'll be madness by Lake Erie as they test the Browns in what should be the most interesting contest on the board. Well, one of the most interesting...Jets-Patriots still is fascinating on many levels. 5 Last Week: 9 New York Giants (1-0) Yeah, I'll be kind to my local organization, but would ya do me a favor please? Get off that silly angle, that bulletin board mantra about how "nobody respects us, even though we won the Super Bowl," blah blah. And that's supposed to inspire them to "show those people..." etc. That angle is as stale as the one about Samson losing his grip because his hair was cut off, when we all know it was bedroom hanky panky that done him in. 6 Last Week: 10 Green Bay Packers (1-0) So tell me this. How come Aaron Rodgers sits on the bench for three years and then comes out and plays like a dream, while guys like Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman never seem to get the hang of it? Could it have something to do with coaching, hmmm? 7 Last Week: 12 Tennessee Titans (1-0) The AP had this postgame non sequitur: "Vince Young was on crutches after injuring his left knee against Jacksonville...Titans coach Jeff Fisher didn't think the injury was serious." Just backs up my longtime contention that coaches have a remarkably high threshold for other people's pain. 8 Last Week: 24 Chicago Bears (1-0) Yes, I was impressed watching them tear Indy apart, until I heard this one-liner from one of the ESPN geniuses: "They're just asking Kyle Orton to hold the fort and not screw things up." I hate that almost as much as, "They're trying to establish a running game," or "Have a nice day." Keep working on not screwing things up and you'll have a nice, peaceful 9-7 record. Or maybe 8-8 if the ball bounces the wrong way a couple of times. 9 Last Week: 16 Buffalo Bills (1-0) I can hear it now. Rewarding winners is one thing, but putting the Bills in the top ten? Come on, now. I quote from the movie, Gunga Din, and for that e-mailer who complained that I only quote from movies 50 years old, this one is 69 years and counting: "Great generals, my friends, are not made of jeweled swords and mustache wax. They are made of what is here (pointing to his head) and what is there (his heart)." 10 Last Week: 18 Carolina Panthers (1-0) You're right, I didn't have much of a line on Dante Rosario, either, until he got between two defenders and made the catch that sunk the Chargers at the buzzer. I thereupon did a research number on him and turned up an amazing athlete. He's 6-foot-3, 250, drafted in the fifth round out of Oregon last year. OK, ho hum so far, but catch this high school resume. Ran for 1,238 yards as a senior at Dayton, Ore., High. Had 144 tackles and three sacks as safety and middle linebacker. Scored 27 offensive TDs. Intercepted five balls and ran three in for TDs. Two punt returns for TDs. Star for two-time state basketball champ. Majored in political science. Went up to Alaska and served as a bouncer in governor Sarah Palin's State House. No, just kidding about that last one but not about the incredible resume that preceded it. 11 Last Week: 16 New York Jets (1-0) Brett Favre fired one out of a cannon for one score and got lucky on another, throwing one up for grabs and having a guy pulling it in for six. I also saw a very unusual thing at the end of this game, involving this future Hall of Famer. The Jets had a third and seven on their own 21, right before the two-minute warning. Miami had one timeout left. Why not go for the first down and if you don't end the game straightaway, at least you'll put the Dolphins in a near impossible situation? I mean, that's Brett Favre back there, right? The greatest arm since the one the Venus de Milo lost. But they ran the ball, punted and set up a Miami drive that carried down to the Jets' 19 and ended with an end zone interception. Hmmm, mighty strange. 12 Last Week: 17 New Orleans Saints (1-0) Say, what did you have them doing last year? Super Bowl. Didn't quite make it, did they? No. And where'd you have them this year? Third in the division at 8-8. Looked a little better than that against the Bucs Sunday, didn't they? Sure did, yep, you got that one right, yesiree. OK e-mailers, I've done your work for you. So put a lid on it later in the week. 13 Last Week: 19 Denver Broncos (1-0) ESPN had a hard time believing that us slobs on the East Coast were not mobbing the TV set to see the Broncs squash the Raiders in Game Two of the Monday night twinner. And as the three Mikes droned on late into the a.m. hours, your faithful narrator felt the arms of Morpheus gently encircling him, until...Holy Hell! I've missed two...three...how many plays on the chart? Oh my God! And then the magic words, "I got them for you. I didn't want to wake you up." Sure enough, charted in Linda's nice, clear, legible hand. Anyone still wondering why I married this lovely Redhead? 14 Last Week: 25 Baltimore Ravens (1-0) Check your box score but don't linger too long on Baltimore's offensive totals. Note, however, that the Bengals, once upon a time a feared offensive team, could manage only 154 yards, or uno, cinco, quatro, as the former Chad Johnson would say. Low number on the board last weekend, folks. Looks like the Ravens defenders are turning it up again, for John Harbaugh. 15 Last Week: 2 San Diego Chargers (0-1) I've done it. Put a loser in the top half. Let me plead my case. Do you really think the Cardinals or Falcons are better? 16 Last Week: 5 Indianapolis Colts (0-1) The announcers focused on Peyton's struggles. They should have taken it a step deeper. Missing from the O-line were departed free agent Jake Scott, Jeff Saturday, Ryan Diem and a former all-pro of mine, Ryan Lilja. What was left got overrun by angry Bears. Haven't seen that happen to a Colts unit for a long time. 17 Last Week: 14 Cleveland Browns (0-1) I've got nothing against these guys, but watching them getting whipped by the Cowboys, I kept thinking, Do it first, then boast about it. OK, that's unfair. It's the other people who are doing the boasting about this great renaissance by the lake. Start off by putting some pressure on the passer and I'll believe it. 18 Last Week: 4 Minnesota Vikings (0-1) I never should have fallen for that stuff I read a few months ago about how they were going to the Super Bowl and all that. They can tell me all they want about Tarvaris Jackson's miraculous improvement, but, to me, he still has that deer in the headlights look. 19 Last Week: 13 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1) The first time I ever met Jeff Garcia he reminded me of that kid in the neighborhood whose mother puts him in a chair in front of the house, with a blanket across his knees, because she feels the sun is good for him. I wondered how the hell he'd ever hold up in the NFL. Well, he has, for many years. Now it seems that it's catching up to him. Calf, finger, ankle...he's missed practice time, camp time, too much time. The offense sputtered against the Saints. They're talking about replacing him with Brian Griese, whose role in life seems to be a human disaster replacement. It's sad. Jeff is a tough, courageous competitor. Would one of you kids move his chair over to that sunny area, please? 20 Last Week: 6 Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) They went to work on a high note. Going into Tennessee a three-point favorite, one of the winter book choices to go deep into the playoffs, hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go, backed by an idiot named Z who said they can't lose because they should be underdogs and they're not and therefore it's a setup for them. Come on, folks, let's hear some good old New Jersey booing for the offensive show they offered against the Titans. Two picks for Garrard, rushing game averaged 1.9. Enough already, I've got to cheer up. 21 Last Week: 11 Seattle Seahawks (0-1) This was the way my system was supposed to work. Bills killed them, which was totally unexpected, pregame -- except by my Super Power, Glory of the Mind, Master Game System, which said that since the Bills were a mystifying favorite, they should take it. 22 Last Week: 26 Miami Dolphins (0-1) Well, they took the Jets to the wire, and that despite a terrible start. And being a natural pessimist, it's that start that concerns me. Chad lacked what is known as pocket presence. I mean the tap tap tap of the foot, oh oh. He settled down, thank God, the team came on late, one play the likes of Carolina's at San Diego and they'd be celebrating with stone crabs and cold bubbly. Ah, well. 23 Last Week: 20 Washington Redskins (0-1) I got it all of my chest Thursday night. When you're down by nine with six minutes left, you should play with some urgency. Jim Zorn should know this. Even Danny Boy might be able to figure it out. No, check that. I'm asking too much of him. 24 Last Week: 32 Atlanta Falcons (1-0) Perfection, I calls it. They should be higher, scream my loyal e-mailers south of the border. Sorry, but I've got to see this with my own hands before I'll believe it. 25 Last Week: 27 Arizona Cardinals (1-0) And thus I've become a target for the second set of nasty e-mailers. Yes, I am fully aware of the fact that they beat the Niners. But are you aware of the fact that The Flaming Redhead is a Phoenix girl? Thought not. I've now got some nasty brothers of hers to face, and certain elements of the family happen to be employed in law enforcement. 26 Last Week: 30 Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) The thot plickens. We know what they're like against Matt Cassel, but we have no way of knowing how they'll do against...you know, this is such a lame observation that I'm ashamed. This is one of the games I have on tape. I promise you, I will analyze the hell out of it and have the definitive word on this team, after one game, before many suns set on our own Great Bay here in Mountain Lakes. 27 Last Week: 23 Houston Texans (0-1) I don't want to give away my Thursday column, but do yourself a favor. Look at what the Texies did last week. Now look at their next opponent, the Ravens, who did the defensive number on Cincy. Now tell me who should be favored. To be continued. 28 Last Week: 21 Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) Is Carson Palmer ready to fall apart, due to the continued madness around him? Is this the end of Rico? (oops, it's from a 1930 film, a year after the talkies). Lets hope he has better luck than Eddie G. did in that classic, the name of which was..come on now, everybody knows that. Little Caesar. 29 Last Week: 22 Detroit Lions (0-1) Here's one for your memory book. They held the Falcons to 474 yards, and the last time Atlanta had a day like that was Dec. 23, 2001, when Chris Chandler set the alltime club passing record. And the Falcons gained 489. Here's the funny thing. I heard a talk show in which the guy said, "Detroit never should have let Shawn Rogers go." That was right after I heard another of those geniuses say, "Well, Rogers sure was no help to the Browns Sunday." Poor Shawn. He makes everyone schizophrenic. 30 Last Week: 28 San Francisco 49ers (0-1) This is my old team that I used to root for, and I just can't bear this, do you hear? OK, the Walsh era was gaudy, and even the old Niner fans, such as me, were a little stunned by all the riches, but all I'm asking is to stay competitive with the good teams, and beat the bad ones. Is this too much? Tell me if it is and I'll ask for less. 31 Last Week: 29 St. Louis Rams (0-1) We're in the dark caverns now, where not even moss grows, and eyes peer at you from the darkness. You hear names from the past -- Bulger, Jackson, Holt. You get pangs of nostalgia. Linda, is that hot milk ready yet? 32 Last Week: 31 Oakland Raiders (0-1) Believe it or not, there are some defensive players on this team, guys whom I monitor for my all-pro. Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Picked him two years ago. The Broncs stayed away from him. MLB Kirk Morrison. Where's his game gone? Saw him chasing Tony Scheffler 70 yards downfield, and the rest of the time he was practically invisible. And then we come to the left corner DeAngelo Hall. Killed by a rookie, Eddie Royal. Two bad boy penalties. A grim prediction -- he'll be on some kind of suspension or reserve by the end of the season

  25. If the offense keeps doing what they did against the colts they soon will be players of the week for the D 7 or 7 in third down conversations from 3 yards and less, two for two from 3 to 7 yards, and 1 out of 5 from 7 yards or more. Thats 10 out of 16 =62.5%
