  1. IMHO is the Bears are to win this game two things must happen. One is the the defense MUST rush and get pressure up the middle of the Oline. They will have three new starters in including the new center. This will force Manning to roll out of the pocket into the arms of O-gun,Brown and the fleet foot Anderson. Make him use the bum knee he has. You have go to send a blitz at him when he's in the shotgun. Line up in the cover two and play man to man, with Tillman on Harrison and Vasher on Wayne. Brown can cover the slower clark and Payne/McGowan/manning the slot WR if you do this then Peyton will be in trouble!! Second we need to play old school football and pound the ball at the defense side where Mathis plays. He's only like 250 or something. Line up in the two TE formation, motion the other TE to his side and run the toss that way. The short passing game will work with the tall TE'S also.
  2. The Colts are taking the approach they will be without three-time Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday and rookie guard Mike Pollak when they open the season Sunday night against the Chicago Bears in Lucas Oil Stadium. More than that, they're taking a business-as-usual approach. The players who will fill in, coach Tony Dungy said Monday afternoon, "are here because they can do the job. You can't over-blow (the situation).'' Saturday could miss at least six games with ligament damage to his right knee. Pollak had minor surgery on his right knee and missed the final two preseason games. That leaves a likely offensive line grouping of left tackle Tony Ugoh, left guard Charlie Johnson, center Jamey Richard, right guard Dan Federkeil and right tackle Ryan Diem. Ugoh and Diem have 103 starts between them. Johnson has started 11 games, but none at guard. Federkeil is in his third year but has yet to start. Richard is a seventh-round draft pick. Dungy downplayed the fact quarterback Peyton Manning will be working with a new center Sunday night. "It's probably one of those things that you'd rather not do, but once the game starts you don't really think about it,'' Dungy said. The Colts prepare for these situations by rotating different players in at center during the week of practice. "I hate to say it's not a big deal,'' Dungy said, "but it's not one of the things we're going to think about too much.''
  3. Bears safety Kevin Payne seems to have mastered the art of disguise, refusing to divulge whether he'll start Sunday night's season opener at Indianapolis. If the Bears can mask their defensive coverages in the same manner, maybe they'll have a chance to knock the high-powered Colts off stride. Payne is expected to start at strong safety alongside free safety Mike Brown, a tandem the Bears hope equals better success than their safeties had in Super Bowl XLI. "I like what Kevin Payne has to offer," cornerback Charles Tillman said. "He's young, but I think he's a quick learner. Being in there with Mike Brown and Brandon McGowan, he's picked up things quickly. "Kevin Payne has a bright future in the NFL." Coach Lovie Smith echoed those words a few weeks back, when he gushed about Payne's potential. The coaching staff apparently has enough confidence in the second-year player to give him the starting nod over McGowan. McGowan was the starting strong safety for the final five games of last season, but he had to alternate series with Payne in this year's third exhibition game. Both started at safety in last week's exhibition finale while Brown rested. Now, McGowan appears to be getting a serious look as the nickel back. "We've dealt with the [competition] just like anyone else on the team battling for spots has dealt with competition," Payne said. "We're all family, but we all have a job to do. We come in here and joke around, but when it's time to get on the field, I'm trying to work hard to do my job, and [McGowan] is trying to work hard to do his job." The seemingly reserved Payne subtly goes about his business daily. He was relatively unknown last season as a fifth-round pick from Louisiana-Monroe. Then Payne fell deeper into obscurity after breaking his right arm against Detroit in Week 5, ending his season. The coaches never lost faith in him, particularly after the Adam Archuleta experience failed and after McGowan never took full ownership of the strong safety spot. McGowan's ankle injury allowed Payne to start this year's second exhibition at Seattle, and Payne responded with a forced fumble. "I like the way I was around the ball making plays," Payne said of his preseason. "I made a couple of big hits. But I think I can continue to work on my technique." Payne and the rest of the defense has to be technically sound Sunday, something the Bears weren't during the preseason. The Colts, although a bit banged up, still strike fear in opponents with their quick-strike ability. They had the league's fifth-best offense last season with an average of 358.7 yards per game. The Bears ranked 28th out of 32 teams in total defense, yielding 354.7 yards per contest. " Peyton [Manning] is a great quarterback, the whole world knows that," Payne said. "Basically we just have to study the game plan, study different tendencies. But as far as what we're going to do against him, we've got to keep that private." Not a surprise.
  4. He will wind up on their practice squad with Monk.
  5. They better get and stay heathly going into Indy, Carolina and with Tampa Bay and Philly coming to town.
  6. He lost his job due to injury. But he is still better than ST.Clair,Metcalf, and Miller.
  7. A Beret? Who does he think he is Rambo? LOL!!!
  8. It just takes time if you look closer at the roster you will find a few names that have been cut on it.
  9. I must admitt, that this was a wicked catch. Now if you can do that for us every week then we will have a good season out of him. But if he starts to have gator arm like he did in the game we played them while he was still in San Fran then he will be cut and we move Rideau in his spot.
  10. That guy is stupid and just trying to fill the pages because he has nothing to write about. Hell in pre-season we averaged 23 points a game well above the 8.75 he talked about. Now to counter what he said we may now have Manning or brady at QB but we have two QB' that are better than the guys he mentioned...and who was never Stan Gelbaugh and Kelly Stouffer? As far as the RB postion we have a question yes, but Forte and Jones will make a difference on this team more so than Benson did last year. We have more cut back ability, better vision and speed. How throw in lil lightin Wolfe as a third option and we are better. "I 'll give the Bears the advantage at receiver, though, with Marty Booker, Brandon Lloyd, Rashied Davis, and Devin Hester, over the Seahawks duo of Lewis Clark and Tommy Kane" he has to and they will perform this year nothing else needs to be said about that. Did he say anything about our TE'S...I guess not. As a group Clak,Olsen & Davis will be hard to defend and even more so once we get them in the red zone with the height mismatches they will cause. Our line will come togeter...it's still a work in progress, but they have done it before and can do it again. Hester will be hester and if they don't kick to him then we get good field position anyway, but if they do try to kick it short look out for Manning and Davis up close to do some damage. The defense is going to be bad in their old form and will stay the course and led this team again Brown and Urlacher will see to that.
  11. IMHO we have left the last spot open because we are in talks with both Miller and Anderson. So if we sign one of these guys then the last spot will be filled by K.Barton
  12. Are you kidding? How many times has Miller been to the Pro Bowl? Anderson has been at least four......so that makes him some what better than Miller don't you think.
  13. If we sign Miller then it would be Barton that would move to the practice squad.
  14. NFL | J. Davis works out at Pro Day - from www.KFFL.com Wed, 22 Mar 2006 20:56:32 -0800 Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Illinois RB Jason S. Davis measured a height of 5-10 and a weight of 240 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.66 seconds and 4.70 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.43 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.33 seconds. He had a 37-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-3 long jump. Davis was able to complete 16 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.
  15. RAMS SIGN RICKY MANNING Posted by Michael David Smith on August 31, 2008, 3:36 p.m. The St. Louis Rams have agreed to terms with cornerback Ricky Manning today as they continue to shape their secondary a week before the start of the season. St. Louis also claimed safety Brannon Condren off waivers from Indianapolis. The Rams released tight end Richard Owens to make room for Condren and will have to jettison one more player when Manning signs his contract, which, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports, will happen tomorrow. Manning was released by the Bears on Tuesday. He played in 31 games and started 11 after signing a free-agent contract with Chicago in 2006. He previously played three seasons for the Carolina Panthers, playing in all 48 games during that span and starting 26.
  16. That is a no brainer. Toenia can rush the passer from the middle, he is a bid body against the run and oh might I add this...he has not been hurt since he has been with the Bears and came at a much cheaper price too. Now Bazuin came to the team hurt and has been for the last two years and you say you fail to see why we would keep Toenia? I we didn't keep him I would have kept Baldwin instead of Bazuin.
  17. We don't need Anderson. IMHO we need a guy that can play both the guard and tackle position Although if we sign Anderson we could move ST. Clair to the guard position and have Meetcalf moved back to being a backup at guard. But if we kept Anderson when Williams is able to play then we might move him to guard.
  18. Simms got cut...and he should stay cut.
  19. Is he still hurting from that knee injury he had last year?
  20. We don't need Simms on this tem. Like I said before if we had to get another QB I would perfer Culpepper. He adds another level to this team. Under pressure when was the last time Rex or Orton tucked the ball and ran 5 yards with it? Plus pepper is bigger than those two so he can not be sacked as easy....you have to really tackle him not just run next to him and say "BOO"!
  21. I don't think we need to rush to get Willie......because he still has a bad knee from last year when he miss all but the first 6 games and the same goes for Bently. Now granted they would be good for this team and have an impct form day one when they get on the field, but we need to make sure they can get and stay on the field.
  22. Yes I can see what you are saying but we need all the help we can get!!!!
  23. On a clear afternoon during training camp in early August, Howard Mudd talked of storm clouds and the need to prepare for them. Well, stormy times are here for Mudd's injury-depleted offensive line. And it's especially ominous considering the group is charged with protecting quarterback Peyton Manning, who's dealing with injury problems of his own. Manning is expected to start Sept. 7 when the Indianapolis Colts open against the Chicago Bears, but he might need a bit of time to regain full mobility after knee surgery kept him out of all the preseason games. And the composition of the group in front of him is anyone's guess. Ligament damage to his right knee is expected to sideline center Jeff Saturday perhaps for the first six weeks of the season, or longer if he opts for surgery. After talking to the three-time Pro Bowl player on Friday, coach Tony Dungy said, "I think he's leaning against having the surgery, but we're still evaluating that." Meanwhile, starting left guard Ryan Lilja has yet to practice after having offseason knee surgery and rookie guard Mike Pollak missed the final two preseason games with an injured right knee. What to do? Plan ahead by using the offseason conditioning program and preseason to prepare for precisely this type of situation. "There are always going to be what I call (expletive) storms," said Mudd, the longtime offensive line coach. "There can be problems and I would rather have faced them before we get them than wait until we get them, then try to get through them. "We make the best out of what's out there. So, let's practice it." In Muddspeak, that means mixing and matching, getting everyone ready to play basically anywhere. During preseason games he changes personnel grouping so frequently, sometimes from series to series, that it's difficult to keep track of who's in and out. "You want them to be comfortable in that crisis," Mudd said. Manning began spending extra time in practice earlier this week with rookie Jamey Richard as his center, and said "I think Jamey is going to be the guy." But nothing's certain. It might be rookie Steve Justice, or veteran Charlie Johnson, the offensive line's interchangeable part. Lilja would be the most enticing option, at least on a short-term basis, but first he has to be cleared to practice. "I don't want to say I don't worry about it, (that) I discount what Jeff has done," Dungy said. "But we've got a number of guys who can play that position and we'll be fine. "Someone will emerge. Howard will figure out what's going to be best. It may not be who's the best center, but what's best for the whole group." The only givens are Tony Ugoh at left tackle and Ryan Diem at right tackle. Then, Mudd will stick with his "best five guys" approach. That could be Johnson at left guard, Richard at center and Pollak at right guard, if he returns to practice next week. If Pollak is out, Dan Federkeil could be next in line. Anthony Munoz, the Cincinnati Bengals' Hall of Fame offensive tackle, predicted some adjustments will be required whichever avenue the Colts take. "Twenty-five years ago they said you just put another guy in there," Munoz said. "But it's not as easy as a lot of people think. Now people understand the importance of continuity, especially when you have a guy like Jeff Saturday, who's so accomplished." Saturday made all of the pre-snap adjustments for the line, and his replacement must do likewise. "You'll just have to have more communication between everybody," Munoz said of the possibility of a rookie starting. "Other guys will have to help out, guys who have been in the system."
  24. I would care to say that I could be a better blocker than Mckant block.
  25. Yes you are right in your point, but Hass is not a slot guy on this team. He can catch a cold in Iraq I give him that, he is faster than Moose and Booker I said that, but what I'm saying is we don't need a slower type WR on the outside to get out QB killed further than what the Oline will or will not do because he has to wait until Hass gets open.
