IMHO our season last year was a bust, because of the offense. Yes the defense had it's problems and injuries played the pivotal role in the outcome, but how many times did we force three and out from the other team just to allow the offense to turn the ball over back to the other team? This will kill a defense.I think that with better ball control we will be a good team again and go to the Playoffs.
-
Culpepper is still the best QB out there for us to get. You may say he bombed in Oakland but who wouldn't with the bad line and OC they have, but the factor that he can run adds something to his pocket presence and his arm is still good
-
IMHO right now we don't need another WR to add to this team. If we have to add players I would add K.Jones and L. Bentley. Now with the addition of these two payer we are a better team in an instant. That move owuld provide experience and depth at two postions. Since Bentley was a center he can play both LG/RG and C and not miss a beat. I watched him play against us a few times and he was blocking the heck out of Harris,Scott and the LB'S when he was pulling from the center spot Hell Kruetz can't even do that well. He would work wonders next to Williams at LT. Now with Jones...enough said Forte/Jones would equal another season rushing like when we had Jones/Benson, just with less negative attitude because Jones wants to show teams that he still can play and Forte wants to make a name for himself.
-
If it were up to me and were going to get a back up it would not be Leftwich. I would rather get Culpepper. He has a pro bowl arm has been a better player than "sandwich" is a better runner and can do more for the team if called on.
-
In watching past games with the Bears against the Saints Bentley looked very good. Now I don't know how good he is after being injuried but he was good in the past. This brings me to our Oline. Can he play guard? Yes he can. But the qustion is do we need him? We drafted Adams and we have Garza, Metcalf Beekman,Balogh, Barton and Oakley in the roster. After watching last years line I still think Garza is weak on the right side at RG, Metcalf look better playing on the right side than the left and we don't know what we have in the other players. I think that not playing Beekman last year tells me that something is wrong with his game. How would this sound. Williams = LT, back up St.Clair ST.Clair/Bentley = LG, Backup Adams Kruetz = C, Backup Bentley/Oakley Bentley/Garza = RG, Backup Garza Tait = RT, Backup Barton

We need to get three players right now to have a chance at a great season 1 Jones at RB, 2 Bentley at RG/LG and Culpepper at QB. Now I know that you are going to give me some heat about this post......but look at this as I do. 1. If we get Jones he can be a great 1-2 punch with Forte. He won't have to carry the load so we can save him and Forte from alot of pounding. This will keep hte defense guessing because he and Forte can stay in on all downs and not tip the defense to what plays we are going to run when it's 3rd and 8. 2. If we sign Bentley he is an instant starter at either LG or RG. He was a pro bowler so you know he can block. I would put him in place of Metcalf who I feel can't block. Also it might provide some competion for Garza at RG. Maybe Beekman or Adams can beat Garza blocking. But with a line of Williams(LT) Bentley/St.Clair(LG) Kruetz© Bentley/Garza(RG) Tait(RT) we shall be beter than last year. 3 This is where you start to moan, but look at it this way who ever wins the QB job will play, but this what Culpepper bring to the table. He is a big QB compared to Rex & Orton. He is more mobile than those two and is not scared to pull the ball down and run if need be. That is an area that just get us in trouble the most. Instead of taking what the defense gives 5 yard to 10 yard runs by the QB, Rex & Orton will still try to throw the ball, but Pepper will run it and is fast and big enough to do some damage. His arm is still great and can make all the throws and has the experience too.He also was a Pro Bowler. If we make a few moves we can have a great team because it looks as if the defense will be back to SuperBowl year form this year and we have to work with a better group of players on the offense this year. I think the players we have now on offense are more out to prove they can play than the one's we had last year(Moose,Berrian,Benson,Miller, Brown,Archuletta,Walker,

IMHO to answer the question are we worse off than last year....no. We are actually better than last year or will be. My thinking goes not from drinking the Bears Koolaid but from looking at this team and the players we have on it. I'll start with the defense, and the rash of injuries we had last year. 7-9 with Vasher,Tillman,Brown, Anderson Harris, Adams, Dvoreack,Walker,Archellta, Payne all hurt at some point in the season was not good for a wining defense. This year we have depth everywhere. Our D-line will have Harris with Adams,Harrison,Dvoracek,Toeaina and Idonije. This will be a soild group The next level at LB we have two Pro bowlers with Hillenmeyer, and Williams and a couple others. At DB we have Brown back with McGowan, Payne, Steltz, Vasher,Tillman McBride, the Mannings and some others in the mix. So overall we should be back to Super Bowl form. Now we have the Offense. We have a battle at QB between Grossman & Orton with both players being able to guide the team. If Rex cuts down the turn overs and Orton gets better making the throws we will be a ball control team this year. We have Forte at RB with maybe a vet coming in like Jones(praying here) we will have a 1-2 punch. We have a good group of WR in Davis,Bradley,Booker,Bennett,Monk,Llyod,Hass, Hester and a few other trying to get a spot, TE are going to be the key this year with Clark,Olsen and Davis. The line will be the main point ot work this year. Moving Tait to RT with Williams playing LT. It will get better with battles at LG between Metcalf,Beekmen and maybe St.Clair. Overall we have backups who will be pushing the starters....like Barton,Adams,Oakley. Now hopefully the Bears are smart and go and get Jones(RB) from the FA Lions and Bentley © cut from the Browns who could play all three spots LG,C,RG

According To Gale Sayers: Halas Would Have Bounced Benson
Wesson44 replied to chitownman's topic in Bearstalk
IMHO Sayers is right about the overall players in the NFL. Now don't get me wrong we have alot of players that play the game for the love of the game and get paid to to so by what they do on the playing field, but some players that sign fat contracts like 5 year deals and them in year three want more money....come on here.Yes I will agree to getting the most that you are worth so that when your time is up you ae set, but not at the expense of love for the game. IMHO rookies are getting to much money when they have done nothing in the NFL You have vets busting there asses year in and year out and this new guy comes in with 30 million guarnteed to him and he sits on the bench for a year or two with the vet still playing. Sort of unfair if you asked me, but thats they game. Not to mention that the vet makes less than the rookie and the rookie/new guy is in trouble all the time.......... and there is a long list of them. -
Bears | K. Jones offers services to team Wed, 11 Jun 2008 23:23:57 -0700 Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports free-agent RB Kevin Jones' (Lions) agent, Blake Baratz, called the Chicago Bears shortly after free-agent RB Cedric Benson (Bears) was arrested for the second time in five weeks. The feedback Jones received through his agent is that the Bears like his ability, but they are in no rush to make a decision. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NFL | K. Jones hopes to hear from Bears Wed, 11 Jun 2008 09:59:54 -0700 Vaughn McClure, of The Chicago Tribune, reports free-agent RB Kevin Jones (Lions) hopes to hear from the Chicago Bears, according to a source close to Jones. If we signed Jones this would be a good one two punch for the Bears and their running game. Granted Jones is not the fastest back, but he is a hard runner between the tackes and can save on the wear and tear on Forte.

IMHO its not the QB,RB or Oline that has problems for the Bears. Its the OC and the run first mentalitity. Sure you can blame the players but consider this. They do or run the plays called. The problem with the line is that we are playing guys that can't block and don't block to the next level, that's coaching. We want our QB to throw passes to guys who drop the ball more often than not. We have a running back who can't block, or is not fast enough to get to the outside. I can go on and on, but the bottom line is our coaches are not playing to win with the talent that we have. You want to have a passing game? Use Olsen more in the middle of the feild and the red zone. Now that we have Booker,Lloyd, Monk,Bennett,Davis,Bradley, and Hester put them in mismatches against the defense. Speed guys Hester,Bradley and Davis on the outside and hands guys in the slot to move the chains (Bennett and Booker), and Monk/Hass .Since we have two 6'5' and up TE'S they should be use in the red zone along with Monk at 6'4 and in the middle of the field too by the way.......who can at 5'9 to 5'11 cover a 6'4' to 6'7' WR/TE? Advantage Bears. We don't have to go down the field deep all the time, control throws to big targets will move the chains too........ if not better. Now in the running game we need to stop running the ball right into the middle of the line where our blockers can't block. Misdirection plays, cutback sweeps, pitchout will work since we now have Forte and Wolfe. You can even use Hester on a toss sweep....I would love to see the speed and moves he has break one lose to the house and leave the other players reaching for the air.. But I feel the greatest need for this team is for someone to teach the Oline how to block and stay with that block and the release and go block someone else down field. I'm not sorry to say this...but Kreutz can't block, Garza can't block and Metcalf....has no clue, and this is up the middle where we need it the most. I think moving Tait to RT and Williams to the LT spot will help some but we need help at RG and LG
-
IMHO if he was asked to play special teams and did want to........ he is truely stupid. That's one way of making the team if you aren't the best WR. If the other WR gets hurt then who will they play...the special team guy. But just love for the game should want you to play any postion the coach tells you to play, just as long as you are playing and not on the bench watching someone else play.
-
This may not be as bad as you might think. A few players have had their knees scoped just to clean out old tissue. So it may just be maintanence instead of another injury.
-
Do you think that Benson has a chance at staying the starting RB? Who makes the team with these guys in camp. 1. Benson 2. Forte 3. Peterson 4. Wolfe 5. P.J. Pope 6. M. Lawrence Or do we try to sign someone like Barber from Dallas?
-
We have a few name on the roster at Wr who has the best chance of making the team and who will be the starters. 1. Booker 2. Bradley 3. R. Davis 4 LLoyd 5. Monk 6 Hass 7. Hamilton 8. Bennett 9. Rideau 10. Hester =given.... as PR/KR
-
We have talent....just enough to win a few games and make it back into the playoffs again. But the main thing I see wrong with this team is the coaching. Now the defense is ok and will do just what they do if we stay healthy, and with Brown/Dvoraecek/Payne back and with the additions of Harrison,Steltz,Bowman,Toeaina and a few others, but the offense is another story. The way I see it if it we up to me i would make alot of moves that will really work the Bears offense into one of the tops in the NFL. 1. First thing first I would throw out that old playbook and start fresh with a new one. 2. I would use the pl;ayers one the roster to crate mismatches that work for our team not the other team. 3. There are a few players that I would replace....like Lloyd, Metcalf,Manning Jr....Miller,Moose, Archuleta are gone already. Now when it comes to the playbook, we need to use plays designed to get yards to the outside not the same play up the middle going nowhere. Last year Denver killed us with a little simple misdirection pitch to the RB.The Vikings killed us running Peterson to the outside with the cut back lanes up the middle. We have the speed to use screens, draws and sweeps. Hester, Wolfe and Forte and great for this. We have three good TE targets to throw to. The bootleg pass to the TE we used once last year when teams stacked up against the run. How can you not use TE Olsen and Davis in the red zone this year....oh and not to mention the 6'4' Monk to.That's a height nightmare for a team with 5'9' - 6'2' CB and LB. We will kill teams in the passing game if we used Olsen & Monk as wideout with Bradley and bennet in the slots or Hester and Bradley out wide and olsen in the slot and Davis at TE. We have good starters and good depth with Booker,Bradley,Davis,Bennett, Monk, Hass Lloyd is a question mak and ....Hester in the Mix too and to add the TE'S Clark, Olsen and Davis. Now the line has to block....yes this I know but Williams at LT,St.Clair at LG Krutez at C, Garza at RG and Tait at RT we stand a good chance of good blocking someone. Now we will have Beekman,Adams,Barton, Oakley,Balogh,Poles all fighting for a spot will be intersting to see who wins.

In general, how much of an impact do you think the rookie class can make this season? I think they can make a huge impact. We’re counting on Chris Williams to come in and compete and play really well. Matt Forte, from what we saw on film before he even came here and after he got here, he’s going to have an immediate impact as well. I think we’ll definitely have a role for Earl and he’ll see a lot of playing time. I think Kellen has a chance to come in in a defined role as well.
-
Remember he was on the bench behind Anderson last year until Anderson hurt his knee. But i think with Baldwin and Bazuin and the other three DE we signed are poised to give some real competition at camp this year.
-
IMHO our starter will be as such if used right. Offense QB Grossman....better arm than Orton, Rex will be better because of sitting on the bench last year. RB Benson will start(vet) but Forte will play we will use that 1-2 punch thing like Jones/Benson FB will be McKie WR Booker/Bradley will be the starters, but Davis,Hester, Lloyd will see time. Bennet/Monk will be in the mix also- good camp battle. LT will be Williams LG hopefully will be St.Clair but might have Beekman/Barton pushing him C will be Kruetz RG will be Garza but might have Adams/Poles pushing him RT will be Tait TE will be Clark/Olsen. Davis will be the third TE Defense LE Anderson will be there DT Harris will start with Harrison behind him DT Dvoracek will start with Adams/Toeaina as subs REO-Gun will be first SLB Hillenmeyer MLB Urlacher WLB Briggs CB Vasher McBride/Manning Jr CB Tillman with Bowman/Graham fighting it out SS McGowan with Payne/Steltz in the mix FS Brown with D.Manning

Former Longhorn arrested 09:11 AM CDT on Sunday, May 4, 2008 KVUE News Former Longhorn Cedric Benson was arrested Saturday evening by officers with the Texas Park and Wildlife and Lower Colorado River Association. Benson is out on a $14,500 bail. Benson was arrested for boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest. The 25 year old former Longhorn running back was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2005. This is not his first arrest. Back in 2004 Benson spent time in the Del Valle Correctional Facility for criminal trespassing. He was found guilty of breaking into a woman's house in search of a stolen television.

IMHO our O-line should be (LT)Williams (LG)ST.Clair © Kruetz, (RG)Garza (RT)Tait. This gives up better protection up front...ST.Clair can help Williams on the left and Tait can help Garza on the right side. At WR you will have a battle on each side between Booker/Bennett and Bradley/Lloyd. Now you have Hester,Davis and Monk to plug in and you have a good crop IMHO If Lloyd plays and is back to his SF days then it's great if not then you make room for Monk/Hass At QB I think Grossman will be the man with WR that want to catch the ball and run the correct routes this year. At TE we have a monster if uesd right. We have Davis if he makesa the team at one end 6'7' and Olsen at 6'5 to use in the middle and the red zone, with Clark being their also Olsen and Davis are faster than Clark and can go open down the field. RB will be a battle between Forte/Benson. I see Benson starting and Forte being the sub.....like Jones/Benson a year ago.
-
IMHO if you are going to blitz...you do it with the outside LB the weak side or the strong side backer, not the middle LB all the time. Urlacher got picked up alot during those blitz packages but if Briggs or Hillenmeyer came of the edge they would have a better chance to get there.
-
With all the bashing of the draft picks we got and the UDFA we signed our team just got better, for this year. I'll start off with the TE pick of Davis. If you look at the year we lost Gilmore who was nothing to write home about just a blocker and could catch sometimes. We got Davis who is taller and faster.. The thinking here is that he and Olsen could be on the field at the same time creating such a mismatch against small LB'S and DB'S(advantage Bears). We then turn to the WR spot. We lost Moose and Berrian and gained Bennet,Lloyd,Booker and Monk. How many time did you see Moose and Berrian drop passes and couldn't get awsy from defenders? IMHO Monk will be a steal, biggest WR we have 6'4' 222 and a big target to throw to. Booker/Bennet will catch most everything thrown their way. Lloyd IMHO is the weak link and might not do anything. So we are good with Davis,Bennet, Booker,Bradley,Hester & Monk. This line-up gives you Speed,Hands, route running, just what our QB'S need to throw to. Next is the O-line. We lost Miller and Brown and gained Williams, Adams, Burton. with Willams being the LT moving Tait to RT we upgrade two spots and have ST.Clair as backup. We have Burton who IMHO will be moved to guard, we have Adams/Burton/Garza/Beekman/Oakley/Metcalf/Jones/Balogh/Reed all battling for two spots with ST.Clair as a back up. The RB spot is Between Benson and Forte enough said about that, but Qakland cut Rhodes, Seahawks cut Alexander, and a few other teams have will do the same so we could pick up some one later in the year (maybe, propably not). QB we have Grossman and Orton who will both perform better with better blocking and a running game. And we also got Hill & Haine and lost Greise The Defense is what win champions right? We we got better there too. We lost who Walker/Garay/Kennedy at DT no major lost there and we gained Harrison who is compared to Harris. We have Toeaina, Dvoracek, Adams, Harris, Harrison, Idonije,Oshinowo, and Faaeteete in the hunt up front At LB we lost Ayanbadejo and gained Larocque We also gained DE'S Baldwin,Clermound,Osborn along with Bazuin back rom IR CB position got better with the additions of Bowman,Brown, Majors and the cut of Jimoh. We can move McBride to nickel to maybe replace RMJWe also got Steltz at S in case Brown goes down again (which I pray doesn't happen). We are looking good.
-
LOST Gained Brown OG Adams/ Balogh OG Garay DT Faaeteede DL Ayanbadejo LB Larocque LB Berrian WR Bennet/Hamilton WR Muhammad WR Booker/ Monk Miller OT Williams/Burton OT Kennedy DT Harrison DT Jimoh CB Bowman,Brown,Major CB Greise QB Hill, Hanie QB Gilmore TE Davis TE Walker DT Steltz SS Forte RB Clermound, Osborn DE, Baldwin DE Also with Brown, Dvoracek, and Payne coming back from IR Now with this set of new players we got better and younger at the same time. Now we can look at the Roster cuts of other teams and build an even better team than we have now. IMHO the Defense will be a Monster with these corrections. If we stay healthy Steltz will force Archuleta out and Bowman will move McBride to Nickel and force Manning Jr. to be cut. Larocque will make either McGlover/Roach or Wilson expendable. We will have a great DT line-up with Harris,Harrison,Dvoracek,Toeaina,Adams and Idonije. The LB are the same, the corners are the same + Bowman, the SS/FS postions will have the new kid Steltz who can play both and Brown/Payne back. The offense will feature WR'S that can catch this year like Bennet, Booker and a 3rd TE that is a big catching target. We have a RB now that will run the ball, we have a new LT Williams, Tait at RT and a new LG to repalce older guys falling off in production. They will block for Rex/Orton and they will be better throwing because they won't be running for their lives and the WR they are throwing to can catch!
-
I really like what the Bears did in the draft. We got some players that we needed and we won't have to break the bank for them. We got competion for so postions and starters for others. I really think that on opening day we will start on offense LT will be Williams LG will be ST.Clair C will be Kreutz RG will be either Garza or Adams RT will be Tait. TE will be Clark/Olsen/Davis WR will be Booker/Bradley/Bennet/Davis/Monk/Hester(Hass and Lloyd will get cut) QB will be Grossman with Orton/Hill as back ups FB McKie RB will be Benson if healthy starting he knows the system already, but Forte will be in the wings. They will be splitting carries like Benson/Jones did a Year ago On defense we have all the Starters back from last year and we also get Brown, Dusty, Adams, Payne back from IR. With new players such as Harrison at DT, Bowman at CB, Steitz at SS, 3 DE's 1 LB, 2 CB 2 DT in the draft and UDFA we are going to have a monster time trying to fit all these guys on the team. But that will just make this team better.11-5 here we come!!
