Out of the bolded players, only Whitehair, Jenkins and Borom are under contract. Bars and Mustipher are RFA's. In case anyone wondered, all of the non bolded players also have no contract. This information should tell you that Ryan Pace should never make personnel decisions ever again. With the three players we have under contract, I would put Jenkins at right tackle and not even think about moving him to the left side. I don't see Borom as a starter yet, but if I had to put him in a starting position, it would be at RG. Whitehair should remain at LG, as I was never impressed with him at OC. I believe we offer Daniels a market fair contact for him to remain our RG. He went be terribly extensive. I like us to retain our RFA's as key backups. I pray to the football Gods that Jason Peters signs for one more year. If for anything, to know we at least have a contingency plan for left tackle. In free agency and the draft, we must, above all else, find a left tackle for the future, because we don't have one on the roster. This is why I have been clamoring for us to obtain more draft picks for the last few years. It all starts up front and we are very incomplete. Cam Robinson and Orlando Brown may be impossible to get. The Jags are desperate to protect Lawrence and the Chiefs gave up four draft picks to get Brown. Both of these guys are likely to be franchise tagged, at minimum. I'm hoping we can draft someone like Rasheed Walker in the second round. In free agency, Ryan Jensen is a viable option to sign. To fill out the roster, I would draft another interior lineman and sign one for the vet minimum. Our OL should improve this year, but I believe it won't be considered good until next year.

Grant is good for his returns and slot versatility. It was nice to Patterson have a decent season. His best niche is in special teams. Now, if they want a Deebo type of player, Cohen is the best suited for that roll, plus he fields punts. (If healthy and hungry) Overall, we need more physicality out of the WR role. That is our greatest weakness outside of OL.

I have a question on vet minimums. I thought at one time that vet minimum salaries did not go against the cap. What's the rule on that now?

I like that they hired Salazar to head the Sports Performance department. Below is part of the article by Larry Mayer Bears general manager Ryan Poles on Tuesday announced the hiring of Brent Salazar as the team's Clyde Emrich Director of High Performance. Salazar will oversee the team's strength and conditioning and sport science departments and work with the athletic training staff with the goal of maximizing player health, safety and performance. The position is named after Clyde Emrich, a pioneering strength coach who passed away last November after working for the Bears for 50 years. Salazar arrives in Chicago with more than 10 years of strength and conditioning experience in the NFL with the Broncos, Chiefs and Vikings. He most recently spent the past two years at Kitman Labs as a performance strategist and was the director of performance at the United States Tennis Association from 2017-20. His duties at the USTA included oversight of the Player Development's Strength and Conditioning team and he was responsible for optimizing the support that the USTA provides to American players. "We are excited to add this key hire to our football operations staff, a newly created position to oversee, align and continue to develop our strength and conditioning and sports science to optimize player performance," Poles said. "Players maximizing their potential in preparation, on the field, in recovery and rehabilitation is critical to their overall athletic performance and ultimately team success. This team is not ready to win this year, so I'm trading Robert Quinn, as his value will never be higher. The Rams gave a second and third for Von Miller. The NFL is a copycat league, so I expect something like this to happen again. Time for Trevis Gipson to start. Poles and Polian both highlighted that the roster isn't close to what it needs to be, so any extra picks is going to be huge. Eddie Jackson hasn't hit anyone in two years and cannot lead a secondary. He was often seen arguing with a young CB that just got roasted. That shows me a huge communication problem from the guy that's supposed to organize the coverage. I won't be surprised if he's flat out cut, as money definitely changed him. Eddie Goldman has lost his desire to play football. I doubt a new coach can rekindle that fire. Cut. The defense may take a hit this year, at the expense of the offense. I would personally like to a see substantial free agent signing at left tackle and WR and a high draft choice for both as well.

That's exactly how I value good players, but I count CB's and S's as DB's. When we are talking elite vs good vs average the scale shifts accordingly.

Agreed on Monty. If we are offered a great trade for him, I would entertain it. In the meantime, Herbert is capable to take over if something like that happens. I definitely look at trading Monty next year, especially if he is wanting a monster payday. In today's NFL, running backs are disposable unless they are elite.

This is what I wanted last year, so better late than never. I honestly believe a year of struggle as constant underdogs is good for the strength of a man. Plus, a year of reset will put the team in a position to be faster. Once evaluations and players meetings are done, cut the ones that don't have the heart or production. I personally don't care about the cap hit, because that should never define a roster. The thought of paying a turd player an extra year because you don't want the cap hit is the opposite message you want to send your team.(That's why I hated Pace and liked Angelo) We need six more blue chip players according to Polian, so how do we go from six to twelve? Two of our six are on the wrong side of 30, so they won't be blue chippers by the time we call them part of the twelve, so I trade Mack and Quinn and hopethe young guys step up. Our greatest need for blue chip players is on offense, so we build that first. That will help Fields grow into a serviceable starter and hopefully the superstar he can be. You need 2 WR, 2 OL, QB and TE or RB to be studs to have a championship offense. As of now, we have Monty. For now keep him and draft another RB. I like the idea of trading him before signing him to a big extension. If Herbert and the rookie play well, go with them. As you can see, we are going backwards on blue choppers. Fields, Jenkins, Kmet, Herbert, Daniels, Gipson and Graham all have the ability to add their names to the list. A big draft comes into play and we have a roster that's young, hungry and willing to compete next year. Better cap situation will follow, then we can properly use free agency. My guess is no. Borom actually looks to be a more suitable tackle than Jenkins. Arm length is very important in an offensive tackle in the NFL and Jenkins has stubs. I can honestly see him moving inside and becoming the next Kyle Long. If I'm Poles, I'm praying Jason Peters can play one more season.
