Is over... Cutler looked like a player that was mentally "done". Someone is going to be gone over this. What I saw was a fracture beyond repair. Now, the organization will have to figure out who stays and who goes. Gruden nailed Jay to the wall on false start penalties. 135 in the last 5 years! Says it's the QB's job to over emphasize the snap count in the huddle. Steve Young nailed it on demeanor and mechanics. Trent Dilfer hit on doing the little things right. Ray Lewis blew the lid off with his leadership comments. Also, did anyone notice that neither Gruden or Young had any ringing endorsement for Trestman? Sometimes silence speaks volumes. Don't worry about this team playing to lose out. They'll do that on their own. The choosing staff looks done as much as the players do. I also have a conspiracy theory for you; If Emery, Trestman and Cutler are together next year, it's the McCaskeys who called the Cutler deal.

It's amazing to me what a premium it is to have a good QB. There are only about 12 good QB's on the planet. So building around a leader looks easier on paper...
-
I hope you all watched the post game analysis...
-
Why cut him? He's getting us the draft pick everyone wants instead of showing some heart.
-
A good head coach is the straw that stirs the whole drink. He doesn't necessarily have to have the recipe, but needs bartenders that can create the flavor he envisions with the ingredients they are given. Trestman seems like a bartender. We need a frontman...

I'm saying that most of this is NOT what Kromer said. You put your thoughts, added his, then combined them to create a false opinion from Kromer. I applaud your steadfast opinion, but that gets countered through embellishing.
-
You basically stated that Kromer and you agree on Cutler. There are no facts to back that up. And you don't hold Kromer accountable because he, without fact, validates your opinion. Funny thing is; you don't need that to win the debate. You held firm and were right. You don't need speculation.

It's not when he does or doesn't audible, it's how. If Cutler is choosing incorrectly, that's huge. All said, I've held my judgment of Cutler all season. While I love his talent, I can't get past the little things he doesn't do that leaders do. Time for him to go.

This is bizarre. How does the "Cutler almost benched" let alone the "buyers remorse" thing get out in the first place? It's wrong in layers and reeks of desperation, discord and mutiny within the team. How else do you get assistants saying things the HC and GM have to deny or spin? Then OMG, a tearful apology to your franchise QB and it gets out too!?. You turned Jay Cutler into a franchise killer as he shakes his head in disdain of the whole situation. You think Cutler was difficult before, he's not taking any stock of this guy anymore. In all of this, you can't get shit for Cutler in a trade now. We as fans can only hope this all unsubstantiated bullshit. I'm thinking we've seen the smoke before; therefore there must be fire.

I like this way of doing things, but it takes multiple years. That's why I'm on board with Emery and Trestman for another year.
-
No to anyone that is not as good or better than Cutler. I'll take a draft pick though...
-
Fire Phillips. Let the new guy evaluate and decide the fate of everyone else.
-
I like your list. But, I would change the order to: Tomlin, Ryan, Sumlin, Harbaugh, Bowles
-
If you know you are getting that, yes.
-
I disagree of course. Our pass rush is bloody awful. If you have the choice of a blue chip safety, LB or DE, you have to take the DE. DB's are useless if you can't pressure the QB. Add to that, a decent offense would improve the defense more than a LB or DB by keeping them off the field. We, on this board, are going to have a blast deciding how to fix this mess.
-
You know me by now. I would draft a LT, DE or DB based on BPA. It will make some portion of the team stronger. We are two to three pieces away from fixing the O. Tackle, center and speed player. The D needs more and is going to be more complicated. I'm not against fixing one thing completely and patching the other. The O DEFINITELY didn't do the D Amy favors this year.
-
Agreed on the offense, but need to add that Garza was awful. He continually gets blown off the line. If we are ever going to run the ball we need a center that can move people. On defense, agreed again. And Jared Allen is done.
-
All wins are good, regardless of draft slot. Unless you know you are going to draft the next great one; draft position means little. What happens if our no name D plays really well though? Perhaps something to build on VS hoping to draft a Clowney. I prefer the mental over the physical. IE: mind over matter...
-
There will be no excuses from them. They will take ownership. I'm betting on it.
-
Problem is, nobody here knows who is making the decisions. The McCaskeys may be secretly calling the shots. IE: Fire JA, but keep Lovie. Fire Lovie, keep his D. Let McCown walk because we believe in Cutler. Owners all over the NFL do it. Why not our? And to what extent? They may want Ted Phillips in the position he is in for a specific reason. And a real football president may not want to take part in that.
-
I really think it's a combination of everything all have mentioned. Our defense is awful. If you look at age, player turnover, injuries and new coaching staff; no-one has had more adversity than we have the last 2 seasons. The offense doesn't scare anyone with our lack of speed. We need someone to stretch the field. I place that blame on the staff. Defenses simply can play tighter because of the lack of threat. Jump balls only get you so far in the passing game. I'm still on board with the coaching staff for one more season. If we don't fix our talent and develop an identity next year, I'll be done with them.
-
Good riddance. He owes the team 12 mil from what he stole the last 2 seasons.
-
That's what I meant when I said give Polian autonomy. When I stated that I would keep Emery and Trestman, that's what I'd do if I were Polian. It would take a little time to evaluate film and talent. I can't disagree with anyone firing Tucker and Joe D.
-
Lol! I can't disagree. I somewhat feel the same way. With the turnover, attitudes and injuries of the D, I simply am not sure. What I saw was a defense that was often out of place. Was it the combo of above or Tucker? I'll have to leave that one for Trestman.
-
We've seen enough to know this team is a mid level stinker. The question remains as to what to do to right the ship. Here are some my thoughts. Organization: Starting at the top, Teddy needs to go. As stated in another post, I would shed tears of joy if Bill Polian would accept a 3 year post as team president. He would require total autonomy from the McCaskeys. GM: Emery stays another year, as he is evaluated by a president that knows what he is doing. Besides, he was left in a horrible cap, age and talent situation by JA and Lovie. Coaching: The axe has to fall on someone. It immediately needs to be Joey D. While his unit has improved over the course of the season. The blatant and costly mistakes this unit has made go straight to scheme, preparation and leadership. As bad as our defense has been, ST was easily the worst of our 3 phases. Trestman and Tucker stay another year. For some reason, I think Trestman is a good coach who's been dealt a couple bad hands. They will be in year 3 of their rebuild and if significant progress is not made it's broom time. Offense: As stated in other posts, we lack speed on offense. We are by far the slowest offense in the NFL. As much as I love Forte, he is doing this team no good, because we can not utilize his skills due to the defense being able to play so close to the LOS. Trade him for what he is worth. Trade Marshall as well and for the same reason. Use those picks for youth and speed. I fear we are stuck with Cutler next year, but if someone is dumb enough to want his contract, see above. Lastly, please fix the OL once and for all! I'm sick of seeing an OT come in because we need the extra help. Garza and Mills need replaced immediately. Draft a stud LT and a center and be done with it. Cut or trade Bennett's ass too. He's made too many hot read mistakes and his TC attitude do not translate into his high salary. Defense: Cut Briggs today. I truly believe his attitude and professionalism has been a cancer. Say goodbye to Peanut as a player and offer him a lifetime position with the organization.(I don't care what the title is, as long as he has player interaction) He is what it is all about on the field and off. Jared Allen takes a pay cut or is the next to go. As with Peanut, keep him around for who he is and will continue to be. Draft a DE as high as possible. Can't have enough of those. And the idiot who hurt himself celebrating while we were getting blownout... Cut him then sack punch his dumb ass. To quote Singletary, "Can't coach em, can't win with em, can't do it"... I think Trestman has worked hard to try and change the culture of this team. I simply think the hold Lovie had on the organization was stronger than anyone could imagine and that takes time to break. While this is not an endorsement of Trestman, he has to afforded the time to break that. Otherwise, the next guy has to come in and break it as well. It took Belichick awhile to form his culture of success. His path was similar. He was regarded as a brilliant coordinator that ownership had suspicions about running a team. Sometimes, it takes someone to reinvent the wheel to be great. Tresty gets one more year to try. Very short leash though... What's our cap look like with these trades and cuts?
