I rank my faith in this order. Webb, Scott, Louis, Carimi. I think all 4 are on the team next season, but who knows...
-
Totally agree, but not with this situation. I think our young tackles and Scott are redeemable. I think the only instances where it is warranted is if Louis doesn't make it back and there is also no option to backup Garza.

Three new OL is too much. Continuity is huge to an OL and some of our guys are still developing. 40% change is enough for one year. We can invest in more next year as well. But LB, TE, WR and DL also need addressed.

Alright dude, you broke a guy code on this one. If you want to crack on someone, you don't ask for help in doing so. Bush league...

i can live with that if he's healthy.

Disagree again. There are more large schools generating college ready players than ever before. There never used be any type of nutrition, strength and conditioning at a lot of schools. Now, you have year round programs and camps dedicated to grooming the next generation. As far as talent pool depth and 1960. That's just speculation until you can give some data that tells me there are the same amount of "quality" kids playing football than 1960. Wrong again. With TV and ineternet coverage, better athletes are going to smaller schools because they no longer need to attend Notre Dame to get exposure. And the smaller schools are simply getting better. Part of that is because there are so many kids playing football that are better. The scouting process has also broadened to glean that talent. My argument stands on the quality of the high school pipeline. They are simply bigger, stronger, faster, practiced and more savvy than 30 years ago. So, in your opinion, parity is a result of poor play vs what I think is better play. I think this subject needs more input from the rest of the group.

I completely reject this theory. The population growth of 62 million could support 5 teams. The population in 1976 was 8mil/team in the NFL. Since then, the ratio is 12.4mil/team. Plus we can factor the emergence of Samoan players makes the pool deeper.

Your spreadsheet came up with Chris Williams as the starting left tackle. It spreaks for itself...

How do trends usually work with 24 year old tackles? They usually get better until they are 28. For someone who rates slightly worse than average, Webb is showing that he CAN contribute. He's worth keeping. I'm not calling for him to keep his job if he hasn't earned it. I'm just calling for people to look past him being put in a in a position he should not have been in. It easy to hate a guy that was the worst tackle in the league 2 years ago that didn't deserve his position.
-
What does everyone think his price tag will be? I'm not sure how to value him...
-
Webb is trending up. I know that makes you nauseous, but it's true. He went from a horrible LT to a slighly below average LT. That's with him lined up next to two of the worst OG's in the league. If the trend continues with the skillset he possesses, he should be average to above average this season. That's not bad, especially if he moves to the right side or gets a good OG next to him.
-
They were bad the year before because of Tebow. Teams were allowed to stack the box out of zero fear that Tebow would burn them. He sucked out against us at a time we were sucking.
-
4 million? I just don't know how to value him. He was not very good last year IMO. How much can a player his age recovery/improve after injury?
-
That's the effect Manning has on a offense. I would truly be happy if we broke into the top half.
-
I think Lane Johnson is the next Joe Staley.
-
He will start or be the swing tackle. No way he gets cut. He and Carimi are both 4 years from their prime. I truly believe if Carimi's knee is better, he will show up with about 15 more pounds of needed weight in is legs and ass. and thus be vastly improved on his anchor.

That's what she said!

Drafting these guys is prime example of what I hate. We were pretty deep at CB last year, yet we use FA money to sign special teamers. If you need special teamers, draft them late! They just may end up making it at other positions. There are a bunch of 6-7 round linebackers in the NFL. Don't we need LB depth? Were there zero OG's or C's out there we felt we could develop with those picks?? How big Hopefully Emery's first offseason followed the Lovie plan. I don't see it happening anymore. Otherwise I will be critical of this.

I get it, but... How good would that D have been if our offense didn't keep them on the field so much? Here's the big if. If Trestman can get the offense to 15-18 in the NFL and win the time of possession battle. I would take bets on it.

This is where I'm at as well. If we keep Clutts and let Rodriguez develop as a pass catching TE, it moves up to C-. No way it ever gets higher than that, because our team failed because the OL was completely neglected. As was predicted by 80% of this board.

I've been reading this thread for awhile and this is my first comment as it relates to my life. As a kid I was very athletic in football , baseball, basketball and golf. I liked girls, but didn't have time to fully grasp what a relationship was. So, it took me longer in life to understand and foster relationships with women. You could even say I was naive.(very) Nobody that knows me would say I was stupid, but I have been fooled out of lack of experience or an over trusting heart. Because that's all you know when you are an athlete. You are taught at the earliest age to do your job and trust that the guy next to you is getting theirs done. If you are totally in to your sport, girls don't take a high priority. So, I can see how they never met. I never had money to fly to the west coast from the midwest as a kid, as there were things I had to miss out on. All said, I believe it would be easy to dupe a guy like Te'o. He got fooled and caught up in something that was bigger than he could eventually handle. It doesn't make him stupid or bad. It just makes him a kid that made a big mistake that should turn out to be the biggest laerning experience of his life. I do think he is a good person and intelligent human being. And for any of us to pile on and condemn this kid speaks as to who and where we are in our lives.

I would go OT, OC, LB, LB and speed reciever. It's mentioned NOT giving up on Carimi and I agree. Even more so, Webb should not be given up on, as I think he has the most upside of any OL on our roster. Not only did he vastly improve from last season, he also improved as the season progressed. As a matter of fact, ever since Cutler ripped his ass. Assuming we sign Scott and Louis. Tackles would be Draftee, Webb, Carimi and Scott. (Three young "up and comers" and a solid vet) Guards would be Garza, Louis and one of the tackles. Center would be a draftee with Garza backing up.

I agree. If our D is left alone, we know it's top ten. The new DC is going to put his stamp on his new D though, so we will absolutely see some new looks. There is no way he's gonna want to hear that he's winning with Lovie's D, cause he's already going to be doing it with Lovie's people.
