I disagree with them giving extra fight this year. First, I think anyone in the profession is competetive as hell and always puts forth an effort to succeed. IE: coaches are always maxed out. I simply think the floor for Lovie is lower than the league average for coaches. He took an ultra talented team that was supposed to be great, despite Rex Grossman, and turned it into a steaming pile. Marinelli did little to nothing to improve our D line. Tice and Martz seem to fit together like "Heat Miser and Cold Miser". Who knows what real young talent we have, because the staff has proven inept at developing them. Lastly, I can't stand Mike Martz as an OC choice. He single handedly cost the Rams a Superbowl because of his arrogant / stubborn play calling. Plus, his system is not easily learned in a yeard time. I'll be drunk on kool-aid come opening day. But, today, I;m just not feeling it. I agree we should see how the off-season unfolds before we condemn the team, but it's realistic to expect the worst at this point. Hopefully, we get some great talent fall to us in the draft due to more underclassmen declaring. And hopefully the money we saved by not canning Lovie gets applied to a free agent signing bonus or two.

Tampa 2 or not, he will be a good fit. The Colts secondary was decimated with injury this year and still continue to perform. As a matter of fact, the Colts seem to lose D player after D player and continue to perform on a yearly basis. Even if he is not the author, he is definately a huge part of the book. A best selling one at that. I'll take him.

No! LOL I meant that they allow players to save face by letting them come out with a spin.

It seems to the staff's MO. That is a major thing II like about JA and Lovie.

I think the most significant stat Martz will bring is a greater deficit in "Time of Possession". This will place our weak Defense on the the field a lot longer than it should. That's not a Cutler stat, but it does keep it real. It think Cutler improves on yards, TD's and breaks even on int's this year, but gets killed in the process.

Not gonna get ripped by me, because I said it the day BEFORE they fired him.

You are the man! Pass the kool-aid...

Call it the apex of sarcasm. I like that you see the bright side of the matter. I just don't see much victory in sucking next season. ...making our QB shell shocked for the rest of his carreer...

There are 100+ coaches I would pick before Martz. Including Shoop. I'm serious. Besides keeping Lovie, this is the 2nd worst move in the last 5 years. Here's to the mad genius gaining some balance in his master plan.

Maybe Cowher wasn't quite ready yet... That's the beauty of conspiracy theories. You can't debate them almost infinitely.
-
Yeah, his title is WR coach / asst head coach. I think more is in the works for him in Indy. All depends on how long Moore wants to do it. Thinking Colts, I have an idea for a new Prez, Chris Polian. He is Colts VP of football operations and comes from great stock.

I really don't believe anyone outside of Halas Hall or Cowher knows the truth, but leaks happen.(and sometimes on purpose) The most recent rumor may be a little damage control to restore faith in the family. That being said, I think there may be some validity to all of this. Will it play out? Who knows? I can only hope. One thing I am pretty sure of, is that we probably won't be better this year than last. It can be argued many ways, here are my 3 main negatives. Lovie is still here, Urlacher won't make that much difference and a new OC will take some time to get used to - IMO. I still believe if this is all lame duck, Turner would probably have the best shot at saving Lovies ass. They should not have fired him. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good conspiracy. From reading the attached article at the beginning of the thread, my interest is peaked. This one will keep me fueled till it plays out.

I agree with your assessment on confidence of a coordinator. Guys don't get interviewed in the NFL unless they are a known achiever. The last thing I want as a leader is someone who is not confident enough in himself or his system to create second guessing. Most players will sniff that out the first day and see it as a sign of weakness. To get players to buy into a system, they need to display blind trust with the system, then each other. This is not what you get in the corporate or factory place of employment. Plus, the NFL is a pretty intertwined community. I'm pretty sure if whoever we hire fails, it will not be their last opportunity, due to them not coming into an ideal situation. Now, if a guy came in and screwed up the Colts or Saints offense, he may be doomed. Not much to screw up here.

I'll take Kampman as well. The one thing that needs to be considered while Wale is testing the waters, Kampman will be signing with someone who may covet him. Sooo, we better be careful with this scenario and how it can play out.

I hope it makes Hester jealous to the point he returns punts with a passion again.
-
The reason he's a former Bear is definately the reason I want him to have a shot. So many former players having coaching success in the league and we don't give them their start. Anyway, he can't be any worse than "trust me" man.
-
Disagree. There are growing pains with a new OC and system. Although I think the O will better, I doubt it will be greatly better. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

They wouldn't risk 11 mil to get rid of Lovie, if you think they'll consider 16 mil to keep Ogun...
-
I would do a backflip. Anyway, if this were more than speculation, I really think Lovie is too stubborn to jump off the sinking ship to find dry land.

Guys, I would like for you to consider life without Ted Phillips. Do you honestly think someone else could come in and do a better job bridging the the gap with the family? I haven't heard a peep from the family for ten years, but yet we have good info that they are still heavilly involved in the process. I personally feel he has convinced the family to spend more money on front loaded contracts and provided JA the ability to retain our own while keeping the team in great cap shape. Sure we haven't won a superbowl, but is that on Phillips? I'll take the lesser of to evils.

Al that to say you were wrong. I'll never get those 2 minutes back...

Exactly what I was going to post but worded better! I do also like Pix's take on getting back to normal on draft picks. All told, I think trading next years 1st for an early 2nd would be OK. I want to start winning sooner than later. Plus we have a ton of holes with the prospect of a crappy FA class. We can zero up the draft another year. One more thing: I don't think Angelo will draft any project players this year, as he knows his time may soon be up.

This is why I believe they should have kept Turner if they weren't completely cleaning house: 1) The team already knows the playbook and the plabook is solid. Hiring a consultant was my idea last year and think it would've been the least expensive route this year. Look at Tom Moore in Indy as an example. I would even endorse Martz for that role. 2) As the OL progressed, the team progressed. Hiestand was a good choice for the scapegoat, as OL coaches are easy to come by. 3) DA was also a pleasant surprise at the end. I wonder if it was Turner or Lovie holding him back? Same with young Williams. 4) I've always been a proponent of validation. With a young QB like Cutler, continuity is a bonus. No luxury on that this off season. We now have to start with a whole new set of standards. 5) Good OC candidates are more than likely leary to cut their teeth with a lameduck staff. It's going to be a huge gamble that could possibly be a career killer.

Way to trainwreck a perfectly good rant LT! Buzzkiller...

No way in hell do I want Martz near this football team. His system worked once and it was a perfect storm. He has since tried and failed miserably. He's a little nutty for what we need...
