  1. I'd mentioned in another post that they will probably pay some guys this year to free up more cap for next offseason. We may have to replace a couple DE's, a DT, CB, WR and Safety. I think we'll have to with some free agents to get younger on D.
  2. Very interesting... Any thoughts on D? /
  3. I say no for the most part. He was drafted to play DE and we should try to develop him in that area. At least that is where his greatest potential value lies. Our DL has to be top notch for our scheme to work, especially given how our secondary is prone to sucking. If Melton can learn a lot this off season, it could payoff in a hugely needed way. I foresee Angelo paying a few contracts forward this year to make a lot more cap space for next year. We'll potentially need 1 or 2 DE's, a DT, a CB and a Safety. We're not going to be able to get all of that from the draft, so FA will probably be a huge option.
  4. IMO - the key to winning this game is to establish ball control on offense. Whether it be by running or short passes, we must keep the Packer offense off the field in the 1st half. I really see a heavy dose of 2-TE sets and play action. Of course, Cutler will have to hit a big play or two to soften them up.(chicken or egg) On the other side of the ball, we must get pressure or Rodgers will have a career day against our DB's. In all likelyhood, the unit we start will not have had any game action together.
  5. Agreed on players wearing less and less. They are putting their body at risk for performance enhancement. IMO - that is why the NFL needs a standard to which the players have to meet, so they don't feel they have to strip their gear off to be more effective. Heck, even hockey players are getting into more protection these days.
  6. I hate to compare NFL to Nascar, but I'm going to cross that bridge. Nascar had the same dilemna; too fast, too reckless, too dangerous. So they came up with the "Car of Tomorrow". What if the NFL designed, implemented and mandated "The Uniform of Tomorrow". It's an odd thought that stuck with me throughout the day, after I read this post earlier. Sure, it would make guys a little slower. But, it would make everyone slower. Beef up the protective gear!
  7. I got what AZ54 and others are saying. They were playing basic D against receivers he knew well and he couldn't cover or tackle them well. Football is football and sucking is sucking, I get that.
  8. Agreed. To me, it sounds like he is a little bummed because he thought he was part of something special.

    Johnny Knox

Wow - I never knew DA was that fast.
  10. I would start by having TE's on the roster. ... and would keep all 4 of them, as Gaines can play FB if McKie goes down. They will wait to see the extent of KJ's injury before cutting him and feel he is a better option than AP. Cut Basanez. Keep Rashied, as I think Rideau has no distinguishable talent. IE:Size, speed, ability to separate. He's simply below avaerage phisically and can't change that. At least Rashied plays ST's well and has a niche' as a slot guy. Agreed on D, yet wish we could keep Bullocks for insurance, as Safety is an oft injured position, but there is no space left unless we keep 3 TE's or 5 WR's.
  11. I found it interesting that most of our bubble guys on Offense helped themselves tonight. Ridieu - TD Gaines - TD AP - Leads team in rushing for 2nd consecutive week and KJ goes off on a cart. Knox - Who I previously and wrongly prognasticated, as the yearly Redshirt, made big plays. What I failed to see was Rashied Davis. Has he locked up the 3rd spot by not playing? Anyone think we are going to see any surprises on Defense.
  12. Agreed and nicely stated. Bowlen and McDaniels are the bad guys here. Anyway, who's their GM? How many coaches have we gone through since Luckman???? Cutler did what I probably would have done. Incredulously, I would have asked my agent to find a way to get the F*&^% out of there. Marshall has seen the light in a different way has been implementing his own scheme.

    As of right now

Jumping in all of the commentary here: I have a question. How many times have we seen play action? I don't recall seeing it. Once we establish this portion of the offense and the short game; the other stuff will open up. This is something we're going to have faith and watch develop. Hester will be fine as he and Cutler will find a connection in a few "whole" games. He's a slow starter, but seems to finish well.

Not a PPR league, but rewards 3pts per 100 yd rushing and/or recieving. I got Olsen as the 5th TE taken. Thanks for the feedback. Good luck with yours.

Nice! I think in an eight team league you are really going to have to watch matchups, because everyone is going to be as stacked as you. Solid.
  16. To add to your analysis, I thought it was intriguing that AP looked to be involved more than Jones and Wolfe combined. Was that he could (1) have an audition for another team once we cut him,(2) a sign that Wolfe is out or (3) they just want to take a long hard look because Jones and Wolfe are safe and he's on the bubble to be #4? Heck, who knows. It was also great to see Hester back in form. We relatively looked like crap untill he ignited the team. He truly is a game changer at returning. I hope he never gets so exclusive as a receiver that he gets less return opportunities.

OK, I just got back from my 12 team draft and need a grade. We have a flex player between 3 WR or3 RB. We also get a 3 pt bonus for 100 yards rushing or recieving. D/ST also are pretty big scorers. Most everything else is standard. Here they are in order. 1. Adrian Peterson 2. Clinton Portis 3. Kevin Smith 4. Vincent Jackson 5. Roy Williams 6. Carson Palmer 7. Greg Olsen 8. Chargers D/ST 9. Jay Cutler 10. Justin Gage 11. Josh Morgan 12. Jamal Charles 13. Earl Bennett 14. Shayne Graham I need a little work on my WR's, but my backs will be my flex guys. I was one pick from getting Hester in the 10th. Please critique if you will.
  18. That is simply epic! LOL
  19. OMFG, Nfo! Have you been drinking at the :grassy knoll" again?
  20. "During Jay Cutler's first week of practice as the Bears' new quarterback, a rookie wide receiver dared to shag a few of his passes with just one hand. And even though this rookie, third-round pick Juaquin Iglesias, had been lectured a few times by coaches about the importance of proper technique, he was slow to break his annoying little habit. So when it happened again one afternoon, Cutler followed his pass upfield, darted toward Iglesias and screamed into his face mask: "If you ever do that again I will never throw another f--ing pass to you. EVER!" Now, it's not exactly a secret that Cutler can be a first-class a-hole. This is a guy who didn't let his under-.500 record as Broncos starter stop him from claiming to have a stronger arm than John Elway; who made a public show of dressing down rookie receiver Eddie Royal late last season, yet took little responsibility for the team's 0-3 finish that cost it a playoff spot; who threw a breath-holding grocery-store hissy fit to force his way out of Denver when new coach Josh McDaniels dared to dangle him as trade bait. Still, Iglesias wondered, was Cutler really going ballistic over a couple of lazy catches during OTAs -- in May? Iglesias checked his shorts. Then the rookie looked at his teammates and back to the equally stunned coaches to see if Cutler was putting him on. He was not, and just to be clear, the quarterback shot Iglesias one more look. It was the raging, flushed visage of utter disdain. When Cutler gets this way, and he gets this way often, he looks a bit like an annoyed viper -- with a frat boy haircut and a slight double chin. Of course, it's also a look that gets results. "All I know is that receiver hasn't used anything less than two hands since," says Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner. "Look, Jay can be an intense person, a fierce competitor and a good guy, too. All the great ones have that mix. I see that in Jay, I really do. He better have it."" I absolutely love it! If you look at our team, the 3 undisputed leaders are the 3 biggest assholes on the team. (Url, Olin and Cutler) I just wish we a DL like Hampton or McMichael. Singletary once said, if they ever lost they would have to form a wall to prevent McMichael from getting loose in the locker room. (Press, coaches, players) No one was safe from the wrath. What I've seen from Cutler, I love. I know these type of personalities can go overboard. IE: Parcells, Bob Knight come to mind. I really hope Cutler keeps it under control, as he'll get a little more lax in his self control as he gets older and more comfortable in his environment. He's still in the honeymoon phase with this team. Just sayin, he'll have to exercise caution and he'll have to back it up.
  21. There is not one direct or intangible skill that Cutler is not better than Rex. Hands, arm, release, instincts, height, foot speed, footwork, anticipation, leadership etc...
  22. I think AP gets cut and we keep Gaines. Otherwise, not bad. Big topic; As far as Knox is concerned; he won't make it one day on the practice squad. My guess is he gets the redshirt or makes the team. I'm leaning on redshirt, as I have not seen him do too much in TC. In OTA's he was a stud in the making. I also read somewhere that he was gaining a reputation as someone that was hesitant to go over the middle. I think he's a nice prospect, but I'll take my chances with Davis over him. This is from Chalk Talk and I happen to agree with this assessment of Davis. Mayer does have conversations and insight we are not privy to. "In a recent “Chalk Talk” you mentioned receivers Devin Hester, Earl Bennett and Rashied Davis were roster locks. With the performance of Johnny Knox in offseason workouts, the emergence of Brandon Rideau and Devin Aromashodu in training camp and the draft position of Juaquin Iglesias, wouldn’t you say that Davis is the odd man out? Rick Germany He could be the odd man out, and I’ve certainly been wrong before. But here’s why I don’t think that Rashied Davis is in jeopardy of getting cut: As I’ve mentioned before, the Bears are not going to rank all of their wide receivers and keep the best five or six. They’ll do that with their top three wideouts because those are the ones who will play most of their snaps on offense. But the fourth and fifth receivers will play primarily on special teams and therefore will be evaluated in that area of the game. To me, Rashied Davis is the best special teams player among Bears wide receivers. So I think that he’ll fill that fourth or fifth spot if he’s unable to beat out Brandon Rideau, Devin Aromashodu or someone else for the No. 3 position behind starters Devin Hester and Earl Bennett."
