He actually played safety in college. I realize it doesn't resemble the pro game, but he does have some experience at it. I can honestly say Tillman would come in and be an instant upgrade at FS. Make note, that I have no factual evidence to back this up, but to me he's a corner trapped in a safety's skillset/body. If you move him, leave him. I have had such a problem with our staff thinking everyone is interchangeable. If he's practicing as a safety, he's not thinking like a corner anymore. I agree, but... Long term solution will be determined after Lovie is gone. It's plain that he has no clue on how to develop a FS.

I'll jump on my soapbox for Tillman to FS, again, if we signed Robinson. Moving corners to FS has extended the carreers of a few good corners in the past. I'll disagree on the injury risk being greater for Tillman at Safety. His shoulders are the main problem and that may be alleviated by playing from the angle a safety would come from vs a corner.(more squared to the point of attack) Never know. I still think Tillman is average to below at CB and feel he could be really good. Anyway, you'd upgrade two positions at once by doing this. I wouldn't count on it though because the staff is so hard headed, they would probably move Bowman to safety and say, "we're going to play our 2 best corners and our safeties are interchangeable".

I'd actually like to see D Manning stay as a special teamer. On the other hand, I totally agree with you on seeing him the secondary. He as gifted as I've seen, but dumber than a fencepost. If other step up on kick returns (IE:Hester, Knox) We should send Manning packing.

Disagree, on the knee issue alone. Agreed that if Peppers attitude comes into question, I don't want him either. The main thing I don't want is a player that may not have it anymore. Add to that, our med staff sucks. I would want a clean bill of health from someone other than our doctors to even consider him. Looking at Peppers: Can anyone tell me what his supporting cast of pass rushers look like. I've seen Peppers enough to know he's a beast, but was he doing it alone or with a supporting cast? It makes a difference in trying to predict the impact he'd have on our team. (From pass rush to secondary)

I think we'll have a better likelyhood of getting Rolle. Our staff simply thinks pass rush is the key to the kingdom. So, if any premium money is spent, it's likely to be on a DE. FS being an ongoing need is also cheaper. I can see a CB drafted with our 1st pick though. Not how I'd do it, but I'm not JA.

Sweaty Teddy says bears won't go crazy in FA...

Start renouncing. When they decided to keep Lovie they gave up being competetive. Reason: Money. Why would you think they would spend freely on free agents? The franchise may be in limbo until we have a new CBA. -
Totally agree. BTW - Nice Berrian analogy.
-
I honestly feel, it wouldn't matter because Cutler will be on the field. Like I said, I'd take him as a 3rd. If Martz has other ideas, I don't want him to hinder Hanie.
-
I think Rolle is a FS.(not positive) Honestly, I think he may be pretty good there. If you say he looks like he's going to be great, I'd be all over him in the 3rd. Going back to Florida State, before he went Rhodes Scholar, he was a bubble player to be drafted, because he wasn't considered special. However, he really did impress folks at the Senior Bowl. So, he may have matured as an athlete or simply picked up what they were doing faster than everyone else due to his smarts.
-
Sounds like he is in a parallel universe with Lovie. That being said, I'd take him as a #3 / player coach. I do not want Hanie's development hindered.

There is distinct difference between leaders and winners, so please don't lecture me on my choice of words. Before you read to far into my next statement; go into it with knowing that I think Cutler is on the cusp of being a winner and a leader. Leaders are people who find a way to be followed. Winners are people who find a way to get things done. Throwing red-zone interceptions is not a winning way. Making a 4th quarter drive to win the game or ice it for the D is a winning way. 28 INT's, not... Some guys just have that ability to find a way to win. It's not made up. It's time tested. The guy for our SB team that should have been a leader, shit down his leg. It's sab for a team to say "our center was the leader of our offense".(not going to find many championships there) If my QB is not a leader, I don't want him. Name any great QB that wasn't a leader. Name some great QB's that were not winners. Again, it's not a superstition. And when commentators say someone's a loser or a winner, that's what they mean. You have to be a leader to be a winner. I can see how people can call Cutler a loser, because he makes plays that really cost a team. He can also back it up with brilliance. Until he unbalances the scale in his favor, he will be a loser. On leadership, he's got a lot of the components like toughness, and confidence. But he really needs to work on his demeanor. He should never hang his head again and keep the fire in his eyes. Say what you want, but I will not relent on this stance because I know it to be true.

Seems like a great kid. He's got hard work and intelligence on his side.

Agreed, with the exception of Toub and the ball boy.

I don't know where to begin and don't have much time. So, this may come in other posts. Winning QB's simply get it done. Not by STATS, but by leading/willing/inspiring his team to victory. They possess the unique ability to make their teammates believe on a higher level. Yes, they've learned it, and practice it, and inherited it from watching their fathers daily walk with life, and yes, most all, they are born with IT! If you have ever played at any competetive level you would understand this. To stand in a huddle with a true leader is something special and they do really make everyone better.

Aside from Lovie finding sudden opportunity elsewhere. I would like to see a top notch OG drafted or signed via FA. Then a draft heavy on defense, with another FA signing or two. Problem is, I don't see a whole lot of difference makers out there. I think our team is flush with role players with difference makers being the greatest need.

The key I wanted everyone to take from this is if we looked at all QB's and took away the INT's that weren't their fault... The 18 that were Cut's fault are indeed obscene. Sorry as well, but QB's are judged on wins and losses. It's not an official NFL stat, but doesn't have to be. Some are just winners and then there are the guys that are on the cusp and some just won't ever get it. I think Cutler is on the cusp, but he has some maturing to do.
-
Not picking you out of the crowd on this but it seems like a lot of posters make excuses for Cutler. His total of 18 that were his fault is still obscene if you look at all QB's, let alone the top 10. If we had the ability to take away INT's from all QB's their numbers would continue to separate them from Cutler. Also, I don't find the above stat line impressive. (It's still a 24 int pace and a .500 record) Still tops in the league and we don't make the playoffs.

That was awesome! You and LT provided some great material for me to destroy the guys at work...

I addressed upgrading WR in my post. I don't know what JA will do in the 3rd, but it better not be WR with glaring weaknesses elsewhere.
-
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/jensen/2042...sean11.article# This is why he doesn't win. I think he will grow out of it. Hopefully Martz will accellerate the curve.
-
I am on board with upgrading OL, DL and secondary. (In that order) No draft picks for WR's this year. I'll take Holt if he's cut, for leadership and familiarity with Martz.
-
I usually agree with you, but I'm going an opposite direction here. Totally disagree with the Bennett and Wade parallel. Bennett, without getting a reception his rookie year, is only 10 behind Wades 1st 3 years. He also had more receptions and yards than Wade has had in any season of his career. Now the fumbles: Wade 13, Bennett 2. TD's Wade 0, Bennett 2. Now, if you want to compare Bennett with Bobby Engram, I'm all for it. I have to say I was more pleased with our recievers than I was Cutler this year. I don't know if was the reciever or him, but the timing was rarely there. I'm wondering if Cutler is relying on his gun more than timing and instinct. We'll know more this season as Cutler will have to throw timing patterns to survive Martz's system.
