Last season, being exposed, was THE bad sign for Hunter.
-
LOL!

Agreed, on that point. One think I'd like to point out with Mikey's dismissal; is that we became a business that is a "football operation", When Mikey was in charge, it was "just business". I think someone convinced the McCaskeys that a better product would provide better return in the long run, as the fan base/customers is everything. If we have to replace Lovie after this year; the cheap talk will resurrect if we hire an inexperienced coach at low cost.

Nice rebuttal Madlith. I am not a big Lovie guy, as well. I do think that #20 is an ugly ranking for his experience and accomplishments. I would put him closer to #12 personally. If win PCT, playoff wins and SuperBowl appearances play any part of the rankings, he would be top 10.

Are you referring to the 3.5 years or the 3 months? I see my post left both up for interpretation. I meant to say the 3.5 is stiff vs the 3 months.
-
Team Plax has a couple of things going for it at this point. 1) They have been offered the 3 month deal, which basically translates to the prosecution wanting this to go away. Why? Because they don't want the publicity of what his Johnny Cochran's are going to make of the law that is on place. IMO - it is ridiculously stiff. I think his defense team has some behind the scenes idea of what is going to happen. Otherwise, he would have taken the plea. 2) They are also attempting to get the trial moved until next off-season, thus buying Plax the ability to play a full or abbreviated season this year. I may be wrong, but I think you will see him uniform for some team this season. As of now, I'll call it a 50/50. I made a bet with a co-worker to the same effect. He is a Cowboy fan and T.O. apologist. How smart can he be?

Our left side is going to be massive this year. Pace has at least 20# on St. Clair with 2x the athletic ability. Omiyale is a giant conpared to Beekman. Their weights are within 15#, but by looking at them Beekman had to struggle to make weight while Omiyale looks naturally big. Sometimes it's not much of a big deal, but I really think they'll demonstate a huge upgrade in power/leverage. As far as Pisa is concerned; he's an instant upgrade to Hunter. Hunter may be bigger, but I really haven't seen a highlight where he has ever laid the wood on anyone. Pisa gets there fast and brings an attitude. That being said, I think Pisa getting there sooner prevents RB's from getting into their cuts a greater percent than Hunter.

I read absolutely nothing into Dungy's comments. He was simply stating an opinion, based on the events leading to Cutlers trade. Cutler is young and brash and does probably need to mature. IMO - Cutler probably has matured through all he's been through this off season. I also don't see double talk. Given that he was just saying Vick should have a chance to play. I'm sure it would be a whole lot different commentary if someone was talking about giving up 2 1st's and Orton for him. I am glad Dungy made this light commentary, as I am sure it will help Cutler mature just a little more. Not only will he want to stick performance in McDaniels nose. Now, he will want to prove maturity to a more respectible source. All good for us as Bears fans!

Good question. If experience is a factor with a brand new QB, he should have a leg up on the competition. I agree that we'll have to keep 6 to keep him, unless stonehands Davis surprisingly gets cut. I look at our developing corps and wonder if it wouldn't be best to keep only 5. That's 18% more chance for a guy to get game reps with Cutler. When it's all said and done, that is what should count when the season begins. So many options, so few roster spots...

Hester is going to be a nightmare for defenses this year. Cutlers cannon and mobility should drive DC's nuts. When Cutler scrambles, what will Hester do? Come back for the easy 1st down?? Go route??? Fake a come back, then Go??? I know that's just a small part of his game, but I really think we'll see a couple of busted play TD's from Cutler to Hester this year.

Actually, I believe Ditka had no choice, as he did not have the ability to direct or fire Ryan. Anyway, I think Ditka(or any HC) would be a fool to interupt the near perfection he was witnessing and did a great job of biting his tongue and riding it out.

We'll definately have to leave Davis to the coaching staff, as we have no clue what his ethic is at this time. Hopefully he comes into the off-season program full bore. He is an immense talent that I hope is not wasted.
-
Gotta go with Terra Tor on this one. Matt Jones sucks. His knock is that he has a hard time getting off the LOS, is NOT sudden and plays smaller and slower than he is. Lastly, being an unproven player, he has shown he is not hungry for the game by his actions off the field. Agree we should bring in veteren competition. No to matt Jones.

I'm not sure that I'm concerned with that. We know Olsen is a stud, but look at Clark, Hester and Forte. Forte lead all RB's in receptions last year. Add Cutlers boy Bennett to the mix and we'll be fine. An important thing we need to remember about Cutler is that, he will make recievers.

I expect better in most years. Although last year was not one of those years. I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome, given the lack of talent I percieved us to have on the offensive side of the ball. Now, add Cutler, Pace, Omaliye, Shaffer, Gaines, Bullocks, draft picks and coach Marinelli and the question is: Who'd we lose that anyone else has shown interest in? We've upgraded QB, WR, OL, DL, DB and coaching. Don't forget, that we are 20 mil under the cap still as a sign that Angelo is NOT done upgrading talent. I think Lovie has set a tone this off-season by making chages to the off-season program, plus taking control of the defense and putting fat cat players on notice with the help of Angelo. Lovie has placed his neck squarely on the chopping block. Don't underestimate motivation by fear and by hope. I expect the defense as a unit to work hard this off-season out of shame and pride, while the offense continues to grow with more talent, hope and confidence. I'll be shocked if we are less than a contender.

This was in another post. You forget, most of these are kickers.
-
I still think Minny is the perfect fit for him. Great OL, AP, Berrian and now Harvin. Does he ever need to have any other dropback, but play action?? That being said, if the concensus of NFL execs think he's that bad, how much better are we going to be with Cutler? Or how bad was/is our coaching staff and JA for the blind faith they placed in Rex for too long?
-
Good article I especially liked what was said about passing efficiency of 20+ yards and what the offense can do vs what it couldn't do. Rolling pockets, deep outs, flea flickers(oh my)... The playbook is officially opened!
-
Great! I'm talking football with bunch of kickers. I bet NFO and Crackerdog were kickers too.
-
To add to my last post on this... I think we'd have the upper hand in signing Plax if we want him. I'm sure he's ready to get away from the NY press. They will never let him live it down. Also, the fact that Rosenhaus is mum on the other team interested "if the Bears" is that he knows how Angelo works. If he would leak the Bears, Angelo would pay him back somehow.
-
If he can be signed to a "model citizen and team mate" contract, I'm all for it. He makes us superbowl contenders immediately. He's a dumbass, but not a T.O. type dumbass, as in his team mates seemed to like him.(Eli in particular)

See correction above.

Gotta go with Wolfe on value. He's younger and proving valuable on special teams. Here's where the difference is: his unique ability vs our other RB's. The staff must be salivating at Cutlers ability to stretch the field to give Wolfe more room to work. And as a 3rd down back, he will not be asked to be a power back or a blocker. The only scenario in which I see AP having more value is if Forte and KJ go down, which is not likely. In that case, you have a guy on the practice squad come up to supplement. You may have a more solid floor with AP, but Wolfe raises the ceiling.

That's an interesting thought. I think Hetser and Olsen will be the guys. I'd love to see them both get 70+ apiece. I just see either of them going 90+.
