I enjoyed that video clip. I have seen him play, thus my point about great hands!! I think you missed my point though. Not dissing Hass at all. I miss the days of Tom Waddle. It always amazed me that he only came in in spot duty. Welker and Hass are completley different, that remains my point. Welker is rare and has found his niche. He'll never be a #1 reciever type, but will continue to be a leading reception getter. His rarity comes from his ability to get yards after the catch. He runs soooo low, catches everything and has jitterbug moves. I can see how he was overlooked in college as they probably didn't know what to do with him or played a college system. But Hass has the hardware from college and prototypical size. A higher percentage of NFL players have Hass' skillset than of Welker and there he can get lost in the shuffle. I hope he at least gets a shot, whether he makes it though may not be up to him. His talents may not separate him.(see Chris Zorich) It took the Patriots to recognize Welker had IT. It may just be that the are smarter than everyone else. That whole Brady thing in the 6th round still kills me.

Starting with the offense: 1) Start FA by re-signing Rex, Berrian, and R.Brown. Cut Miller and Metcalf. 2) Re-negotioate Moose or cut him. 3) Trade or cut Griese. 4) Target a good OG via FA. Also take a long look at St. Clair's grades at guard before overspending. 5) Absolutely draft an OT early. The draft is deep and we can get good value. Maybe even with the 1st 2 picks. 6) Draft QB in round 2/3. I like Flacco and Henne. 7) Draft RB in 3/4. BPA in round 5 on. On defense: 1) Cut Walker, Archuletta and RMJ. Possibly trade Idonije if Bazuin can play. 2) Sign Briggs if we can. 3) Restructure M. Brown and pray he stays healthy. He is still a key. (Have Payne bunk with him at camp.) 4) Sign a good vet FA S. If possible. One that knows how to hit 5) Start A. Brown and sub in Anderson. 6) Give the Samoan a chance next year. We need a run stuffer. 7) Get healthy a Tommie and Dusty back. They looked nasty together. The 45 minutes it lasted. On ST: 1) Prepare to lose Brendan. Special teamers can not hold you hostage on contracts. He's damn good, but we have holes to fill. 2) Design plays for Hester on squib kicks. 3) See if Beekman or Garza can long snap. Mannelly is the best in the biz, but a luxury. The roster spot may be needed with the newcomers on the OL. That's enough for now.

Hmmm.. Kinda like Rex, but worse.
-
We have more reasons to keep Rex than cut him. If we let him go, he's going to Minny to start. He is so much better than what they have. Could you imagine that line and RB duo and Rex's ability to hit the seam, deep out and fly. Play action will be sick and Minny becomes contenders. While I'll say I like Orton better, we simply need to sign Rex to keep hin out of enemy hands. They have money to sign Berrian too.

Hass and Welker are two completely separate talents. IMO - Welker is special. He catches everything, runs lower than anyone I've ever seen, and can seriously cut. Speed is not the issue that separates the two. It's that Welker has the ability to separate his talents from those of his peers. Hass has great hands and works hard. Sometime that's just not enough. If we going on hard work and desire, I'd make all of you stop talking about Sid Luckman being the last great Bear QB.

Just want to clear something up. I just stated Henne looked good. In no way am I suggesting he be drafted by us in the 1st round. You all can think I'm an idiot for other reasons, just not that one! LOL!!
-
Agreed on prospects. Disagree on Orton. IMO - he's played better than the other two, without the lead time. He's probably playing a little tight knowing all he needs to do it not F it up. Which he also did as a rookie. Give him time to relax a little and I think the accuacy will come. IMO - Orton has a little toughness and moxey that Rex and Griese do not. He has also not recieved a complete fair shot thusfar his carreer. Trade Griese, sign Rex to an incentive laden deal and let a QB earn the job. FYI - The QB out of Michigan looked really good.

Put me on record. If Mike Martz is our OC; I will boycott being a Bears fan for his tenure. He is F'n nuts. He single handedly lost the SuperBowl for the Rams by not running the football with an overly stubborn approach. If you think Turner is irratic by only running 20 times a game. Wait till you see Martz run it 10 times. While he is a brilliant mind, he also laments the choices it brings him. He makes some of the most head scratching calls I have ever seen. Plus, he hasn't done anything in parallel with Marshall Faulks decline. Hmm... No way, no way in hell!!
-
Put Woodson in that category too. IE: methodical, robotic, locks on, slow release etc... I know, he had 4 TD's; but it's college.
-
He still had a choice to make; Manning or Leaf. The next year he gets Edgerrin James instead of Ricky Williams, almost a new d every year and let's not forget 4 straight SuperBowls in Buffalo. Gotta give him credit.
-
Add Reggie Wayne and Adam Vinatieri to the list. Wayne got 42mil and Vinatieri is the highest paid kicker ever. Polian is a dick, but he's an F'n wizard when it comes to personel. Dallas Clark will get signed too.

I agree and think we'll be back next year. Thing is we'll have a tough division next year. The Pack are a couple of players away from being really good and have a ton of money under the cap. I think Minny is a QB and WR away from being a contender as well. I see us drafting 2 new OL's and getting 1 in FA. We'll probably draft competition for Benson from the 3rd round on. We should sign Berrian or teams will put everyone in the box. Bring back Mike Brown for one more try. He's that good. Draft a FS replacement. D Manning is not the answer. Put A. Brown back as starter and bring Anderson in on passing downs. Coaches will need too concentrate efforts in rekindling the fire that was lost this year. Also, develop some innovative gameplans and contingencies. Sticking with the run will be a start. I'll be good with 11-5 or 10-6. Our division should be brutal next season. Either one of those records takes it, IMO.

All depends on FA and Draft, which will change everything.

Briggs has played in the league for 5 years. Do you REALLY think this one game will make a damn bit of difference? If any GM lets this one game have an impact on whether or not they want to sign Briggs, then that GM is an idiot. Yeah, I think they have come good film on Briggs by now. He's already made the pro-bowl as well... Again. honestly, if I were Briggs, I wouldn't mind getting franchised again. Hell he just got 7.2 mil this year. He'll probably get 9+ next year. Maybe also gain leverage to sign a long term deal with the Bears or get a fat guaranteed signing bonus in 09. Anyway it goes from here on out he's a winner. The odds of him getting a career ending injury are very slim at this point.

Agreed. Moose should take a paycut or leave. Keyshawn Johnson found out the hard way about finding a suitor to pony up some cash. He's in the studio now. Moose will follow if he's not inexpensive. I think we should add talent to the corps every year. This is no different. I like what we have going into next year, so it would be good to draft a talented project in the later rounds.
-
I'll give Lovie credit for not wavering in his optimism. It will prove beneficial in the off season as we revamp. He gets little credit for outwinning Jauron in crappy seasons. Jauron never had this much talent to work with. Lovie gets an F everywhere else.

I'm not a big fan of removing someone from their natural position. In Tillman's case there is justification for debate. Coming out of college, he was said to have good corner skills, but would be an all-pro at safety. If that is truly the case and if we had solid depth at corner, I would try it out in camp and see if he had the instincts to do it. That's what makes Brown so good at it. You can always switch back. You aren't going to screw Tillman up like what happened to D Manning earlier this season. All told, I would see how the draft and FA pan out before attempting anything that drastic. As it would be drastic to remove our best corner to address another position.

Thanks for the update. I did not get to see the game today. It is always good to hear it from someone who was there.
-
I have Beekman on the roster next year... Did you read the post? IMO - He will be a waste of space next year, but it is necessary to make an attempt to develop him. He's healthy and not playing at an easy position to learn. Sinclair is on the depth chart as a Tackle and playing over Beekman. I don't think Sinclair is in jeopardy of losing his job next season, so an audition at guard is of no benefit, unless he gives us the best chance to win. IE: Beekman is useless. To another poster; I did not mention using the 1st 2 picks on tackle. (I said day one)
-
I'm all for a coordinator of his caliber. At all cost and ASAP.
-
The media has said it, we have said it and other players have said it and so on... The Bears OL is not what it used to be. My flat out opinion is this. Fix the OL 1st and the rest will follow. I believe the Sinclair move to OG is a start, as he is more athletic than Metcalf and Beekman is obviously useless. I don't want hear the rookie blah blah either. OG is the easiest offensive position to learn and play. For off season plans, I would start with telling Tait to tailor his workouts and film study for the right side. IMO - it was a great move placing him at LT when they did, but on the other hand a bonehead move leaving him there for three years with noone else in the pipeline and keeping him from his natural position of RT. You weaken the left side with this move, but are beginning to place "best fits" in their positions. 2nd, leave Kreutz alone! He may be small, fumble prone and of a distemperous nature, but we don't have any better. And he gets the boys in the weightroom. Most importantly, we'll need his stability next year. 3rd, re-sign Rueben Brown if he can get healthy. He's still the best OL on our team if his arm heals. Sign him cheap and spell him from time to time to get the youngsters some PT. And for God's sake, if he's dinged, rest him. 4th, Cut, Miller and Metcalf. 5th, draft 2 OT's on day one. It's hard to find a good one and it's time to throw numbers at the position. If you get one good one, you have hit the lottery. If you get two, that's like hitting the lottery, inheriting an oil field and the harem that goes with it. Everyone knows they will need a learning curve, that's what the TE is for. A good OC can put him in situations he can win. Also, if they don't pan out at OT, you just overpaid for guards. That upgrade needs to occur anyway. It's just not as important as OT. 6th, pay for an OG in FA if the right one is availible. Lastly, fire Turner and Hiestand. Pay top dollar for a good OC and a good OL coach will follow. All in all, I would like to change the type of OL we have. We have one of the smallest OL's in the league. If not for Tait we would have. We are a cold weather/outdoor team. IMO - we need the road grater/mauler type. That means more size and leverage. Whether we have Rex or Orton starting next next. The run game will help the pass game. The window is not closed on a SuperBowl. We should not be developing the future QB at the risk of shutting the window. Starting OL in my dream next year would be from left to right. New guy, FA OG, Kruetz, Brown, Tait. Garza can backup at both OG's and center as well as Beekman. Sinclair at backup T, as well as our other rookie.

I would love to see Orton come out and run the no-huddle on the opening drive. Pass the ball 8 times in a row and get those fat bastard D tackles winded and run their asses over! Sorry boys, aint happenin. Turner is still in the booth. We lose 24-16 and move up the draft board.
