One point to ponder is that Vegas factors in where the betting money is coming from and who the betting is on. With that being said, I think we'll see most of these games move a point or two.

Bingo! The days of the oversized front four are over, unless they are agile as hell. If we can replicate the athletic big guys NYG had with their NASCAR package, that would be our best chance this year.
-
As of now, we are a 2.5 point favorite to beat the Packers opening day. That means they would be favored by .5 at a neutral site. How do y'all feel about that?
-
I just read that we are the youngest division, by far, with 15 players 30+. The Patriots, as an example in contrast, have 15.

While I agree with most of what you said, your floor has only happened four times in franchise history. What makes Justin and his supporting cast better than those of the past? I'll stand with being thrilled with 3500 and 25...
-
That would be great. I would be thrilled with 3500 and 25. My guess is the running game will hit for 2700 and 20. With about 20 field goals, we should average 22pts a game, with bonus points from the D.

100%. I don't think any of us doubts the Bears are going to be greatly improved. 3-14 was no joke. Sure we were in some games and had a chance. On the other hand, truly believe teams slept on us. Not this year; so a tight game game against the Eagles should lead to another tight game against the Eagles with the same outcome.(We improve, so they use a little more of their A game on us) As an up and coming team, they'll have to learn how to close out the big games. That also means they'll have to earn the respect of the officiating crew, as the good teams usually get the most breaks. This will be a good growth year with some really hard to swallow losses, due to them whooping ass in the process.

I'm with you. I think he will be the biggest steal of the entire draft. His slow "get off" was due to him being asked to read before going. He has every tool required to be a monster. Not one bit of his size is manufactured either. With his frame, he can easily carry 20 more pounds of muscle and lose any speed. He'll have a learning curve and eventually be a plus starter.

I see us as 3rd place in the division. Too many young guns need to become seasoned vets before we contend for the division. That's why I stated Justin would require a big jump for us to contend for the North. I really hope I'm wrong. The talent and depth is night and day from last year. There will be a great deal to talk about this year.

I'm my big money league, we keep 14, our league has one more starter. Both worked out ok, but I got killed with injuries last year. I probably put 7 on IR last year.
-
Whoa! Pump the brakes on the kool-aid train fellas. The year is still gonna be 2024 for the playoff run. Unless Justin has a meteoric year, we won't even contend for the NFC North. Sorry for being a buzz kill, but that's what friend are for, right?

I really hope so. This year will tell. Nice analogy...

What is the biggest question going into training camp?
Mongo3451 replied to Stinger226's topic in Bearstalk
The only reason I didn't voter for Field's is because we won't learn anything in camp... -
I was lucky enough to coach for a few years. It was a great honor. The young men remember...

I played HS football in central Indiana in the early 80's. I had scholarship offers to a few Division II schools, but turned them down because I didn't think my body could take the punishment. Had a fractured neck as a sophomore, so I truly think it was wise not to take college hits. Tried rugby at IU and quit after one week. That hurt more than football ever did.

I took Stink's comments to be proactive. He's basically stating that it's going to happen, so get some thick skin. The DL are better athletes than you, so work to be perfect, because you are going to need it. Of course I played OL, so a Legend like him resonates with me. Maybe that's why I heard the message differently.

My thoughts on Schlerith's comments were football based only. I get what he is saying from an offensive line perspective. From a professional/private industry perspective the criteria are more clear and validated. Football is not a science, with too many variables to quantify. I recall a game that I got called out for that wasn't even my fault, but it didn't look that way to the observers. My teammate missed the assignment switch, that looked to be mine. The coaches even thought so, until I defended myself according to their game plan. I've since been vindicated, but it didn't feel that way in the moment.

Stink had some good insight at last year's conference. https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2023/6/14/23760901/mark-schlereth-ol-masterminds-nfl-von-mille-travis-kelce-lane-johnson

The OL Masterminds seminar is next week. Lane Johnson said 250 people signed up for the conference. I'm hoping all of the Bears OL goes. If anyone has a roster, it would be cool to see.

Selfish has nothing to do with it. He knows how it would look if he didn't go with the others. With image being his primary focus, he wasn't go to blow that chance to be seen. Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for the kid because it makes the Bears better. I'm also on high alert because of the smoke, all around him, and I don't want the team burnt.

My issue with Claypool is that he's not shown any signs of "wanting it". That's the term we used to use to describe a guy as "all in". From his heeding the advice of Ju Ju to have multiple irons in the fire, to not living up to his rookie year, to Ryan Clark and Brandon Marshall working with him in Steelers camp, at the behest of Tomlin, to Tomlin trading him, to the Bears and him not picking the playbook, to soft tissue injuries limiting his season and finally soft tissue injuries in camp to cross dressing during rehab. At this point, it's walking like a duck, so it's a duck. He doesn't love football. Soft tissue injuries occur mainly due to improper conditioning. Other factors do apply sometimes, but overuse can be ruled out. He's already had his tough talk before he left the Steelers. His "come to Jesus" talk may happen when he loses his job to someone like Pettis.
