I would like this draft a lot. I'm not a fan of Gaffney, but if that's the biggest think I have to nit-pick, then it's a good draft.
-
I don't think I'd like this mock very much for multiple reasons. I think it's too high for Tuitt, WAY too high for a backup RB, and then taking back-to-back DB is kind of stupid unless, like you said, SJB is being moved/groomed for FS.

All those developmental guys were drafted by a collection of bad-to-average coaches and GMs. We might have a good group of coaches and a smart GM finally. That's why I think a developmental QB is a good idea. Same as what the Packers have done for years, and it's the reason why they were able to go straight from an eternity with Fartve to what will be a long time with Rodgers. Meanwhile, the Bears have had 128 QBs during that time.

I don't know if it's just me, but your signature block picture screws up the width of the screen. Could you resize it so scrolling sideways isn't necessary?

LOL. Are you sure it's not time for a Division II Safety or DB? You just know Lovie has his eye on a guy from North Savannah State A&M.

With the 67th pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Oakland Raiders select: Zach Mettenberger QB LSU If he lasts this long, it's a great pick for the Raiders. Schaub is a stop-gap, not a long-term answer. I don't buy into the Savage hype. Atlanta (Stinger) is on the clock.
-
With the last pick of the second round, the Seahawks select: Marcus Smith, DE, Louisville That's what my Seattle insider wants. He didn't like the WRs at that point because there have been too many taken already.
-
The Shae pick was all Lovie. No doubt. If there is a WTF pick, I'd say it's Ebron. Total luxury pick.
-
With the 61st pick, the 49ers select: Martavis Bryant, WR, Clemson Not the ideal WR since the spot is the position of need, the Niners nonetheless select Bryant because his potential, their WR corp is marginal, and his physical skills are undeniable. A 4.42 and 39" vertical at that size is crazy. He's a weapon they can't pass up at this point. New England (bradjock) are on the clock.

If the defense stays the same, I'm not a huge fan. He speed/athleticism pretty much demands that he stays at MLB, but the deep-middle coverage requirements for a MLB in this system would be a stretch for him. Now, if the Bears required less deep-middle coverage of their MLBs, then I'm all in favor of him as a 3rd round pick. He's a football player with a nose for the ball.

I think you're close. I think the realistic list might be: DT - Donald, Jernigan FS - HHCD, Pryor CB - Gilbert ILB - Mosely However, if one of the blue-chip, top-10 guys fall (e.g. Watkins), he'd have to alter his list.
-
At 56 the Niners take Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU. The Eagles taking Robinson sort of stole my thunder. Aldon Smith is still a dumbass. SD (bradjock) is on the clock.

He's not a good fit for Chicago...no fresh sea food.

1. HHCD - HaHa Clinton Dix, S, Bama 2. RSH - RaShede Hageman, DT, Minn 3. SJB - Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska 4. DAT - De'Anthony Thomas, RB, Oregon 5. KPL - Kevin Pierre-Louis, OLB, BC 6. KVDK - Kirby Van Der Kamp, P, Iowa State 6. JDD - Joe Don Duncan, TE, Dixie State Probably not realistic to squeeze ASJ - Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Wash in there. He's also a 2-3 round guy. I gotta be honest...I wouldn't be upset with this draft. I love the first pick, like Hageman if he falls into the second, and think SJB could be a solid starter in a year or so. DAT has potential to be explosive, and KPL is probably the quickest LB in the draft. Punters, meh, but I don't like the Bears current punter. Duncan was thrown in there for you "we need another TE"-guys.
-
BTW - I really hope this happens, but if it does, I REALLY hope the Bears draft AJ McCarron as a backup QB. I want to see his girlfriend get more screen-time.
-
Doubt it all you want, but the proof is in the link. We could randomly take guesses by throwing shit at a big board and pick the guy where the corn kernel sticks, and have a better bit rate than JA did. No doubt whatsoever.

That's what's so crazy about this one. He traded up and PRYOR WAS THERE. Then he selected a CB. I wouldn't like this one. Too much future mortgaging.

Hate it

With the 53rd pick in the 20-4 NFL draft, the Packers select: Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State My Green Bay insider wants mobile monsters on the interior OL, and more than one. Richburg is the #1 Center on most boards, and has great intangibles. Seems like a good fit for GB, and the OGs currently available felt like a reach. Almost went with Austin Seferian-Jenkins, but stuck to the GB insider requests. Philly (Adam) are on the clock.

I've been saying almost that same thing for a while. It's not extreme hindsight. Pretty obvious FS is thin and DT is deep. Having said that, I wouldn't be terribly upset with a draft that started with Donald and Hageman. I'd be pretty happy because it means the battle in the trenches most likely would be won by Chicago.
-
HA! I'd be OK with draft. An all Alabama draft doesn't fit as well because the lack of DT and the requirement of a trade down because of CJ Mosely. It'd be really difficult for the Bears to get two 1st rounders at 20 or earlier. There would have to be a trade up scenario including something/someone pretty good (i.e. Briggs), and player evaluation favoring our requirements. Having said that... -Calvin Pryor is picked before HHCD. Bears trade #14 to Baltimore for their 1st (#17) and 3rd. (150 point difference in picks, and their 3rd is worth 195) -Bears trade Briggs and some picks from next year (let's say a 2nd and 5th - I'm winging it) to move into the late first round. -CJ Mosely slides to the end of the first 1. HHCD, FS 1. CJ Mosely, ILB 2. Cyrus Kouandijo, OT 3. AJ McCarron, QB 4. Adrian Hubbard, LB 5. Anthony Steen, OG 6. Vinnie Sunseri, SS 6. Deion Belue, CB *Pick up punter Cody Mandell after the draft. I'd be fine with LBs: Greene, Bostic, SMC, DJ, Mosely
-
I'd be pretty damn happy with that as well. It addresses the first two team needs with the first two picks, then prepares for the future with SJP, and finally fortifies the second-level with a tackling machine.

The bolded part is why I discounted the FA excuses.

That's a great collection of talent. Must be a crazy number of trades to go back that much and stockpile that much. I'd normally say, "3 straight CBs and 2 straight TEs?" But holy shit. That would be ridiculous. I like each of the first 8 names. I'd dislike the TEs, but it'd be hard to complain.
