HA! I'd be OK with draft. An all Alabama draft doesn't fit as well because the lack of DT and the requirement of a trade down because of CJ Mosely. It'd be really difficult for the Bears to get two 1st rounders at 20 or earlier. There would have to be a trade up scenario including something/someone pretty good (i.e. Briggs), and player evaluation favoring our requirements. Having said that... -Calvin Pryor is picked before HHCD. Bears trade #14 to Baltimore for their 1st (#17) and 3rd. (150 point difference in picks, and their 3rd is worth 195) -Bears trade Briggs and some picks from next year (let's say a 2nd and 5th - I'm winging it) to move into the late first round. -CJ Mosely slides to the end of the first 1. HHCD, FS 1. CJ Mosely, ILB 2. Cyrus Kouandijo, OT 3. AJ McCarron, QB 4. Adrian Hubbard, LB 5. Anthony Steen, OG 6. Vinnie Sunseri, SS 6. Deion Belue, CB *Pick up punter Cody Mandell after the draft. I'd be fine with LBs: Greene, Bostic, SMC, DJ, Mosely

I'd be pretty damn happy with that as well. It addresses the first two team needs with the first two picks, then prepares for the future with SJP, and finally fortifies the second-level with a tackling machine.

The bolded part is why I discounted the FA excuses.

That's a great collection of talent. Must be a crazy number of trades to go back that much and stockpile that much. I'd normally say, "3 straight CBs and 2 straight TEs?" But holy shit. That would be ridiculous. I like each of the first 8 names. I'd dislike the TEs, but it'd be hard to complain.

haha. At least you're dedicated.

If this isn't an indictment of Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith, then I don't know what is. http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/i...own-draft-picks I'm even more convinced every single person on this board would have done better making draft selections for the Bears. Finances, free agency, everything else? Probably not. But definitely drafting.
-
That ends up being a pretty decent draft, but a #2 TE in the first for the Bears is an atrocious pick.

I hate the show, but IF THE BEARS ARE THE TOPIC?!?!?! I'm all in. Let's do this. I want to hear every single detail of the offseason.

I actually quite enjoy the idea. Imagine EVERY player is available and you already know their upside/ceiling?

With the 42nd pick of the 2014 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans select: Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State They have to replace Alterraun Verner, and Bradley Roby is a good candidate with great value at this point. Some have him going late in the first round. RBs for the Titans are a consideration, but there is better value later. Offense needs more improvement for the Titans than defense, but Roby probably comes in and starts day-1. The N.Y. Giants (Adam) are on the clock.

http://www.nfl.com/photos/0ap2000000342606 So all players are available but it's based on current team needs. Deacon Jones? Stupid. In that situation, I'd say the Bears draft Ronnie Lott or Mean Joe Green. And Payton going that late?! C'MON!

With the 36th pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Oakland Raiders select: Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State Honestly, the WRs at this point are a crap-shoot up to personal bias. I happen to like Kelvin Benjamin more, and I don't agree with the rankings at the beginning of this thread; so, that helps. But to make this decision, I reinforced it with the WF rankings, and went off something the Oakland GM said: "We don't have that go-to big hitter Calvin Johnson-type guy at receiver." It sounds to me like he wants a big WR who can go up and get it in traffic, as well as provide a dangerous red-zone threat. Depth at the position is great this draft, so this might be something they go away from until the third. Then again, there are multiple QBs in that next tier, and one is likely to fall to Oakland's next pick. This pick was almost Allen Robsinson, PSU. Atlanta (Stinger226) is on the clock.

Don't you think that's a bit of a reach?

With the final pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks select: Joel Bitonio, OG, Nevada From my Seattle insider: Caroll and Schneider love versatility. The fact that Bitonio can play both guard and tackle would be interesting to them. Cyrus is a possibility too.

You're right about that. In terms of who will play more snaps, a rookie MLB like Mosely will definitely play more than a rookie DB, whoever it is. The same can be said about Safety, however, more than LB. A rookie Safety like HHCD or Pryor starts day one without a doubt. Linebackers: Briggs, Bostic, McClellin, Greene, Williams (That's a solid rotation) Safeties: Conte, Mundy, Steltz, Jennings (i.e. hot garbage) Strong as you're weakest link... If HHCD or Pryor is there, the FS depth in this draft is not great. And it's definitely not as strong as DT. The first pick should be FS.

This seems pretty obvious with all the WRs selected... The Niners select Jason Verrett, CB, TCU. Considered OLB Shazier given Aldon Smith's dumb ass. Nonetheless, this is probably BPA by position. Chris Cook cannot be trusted, which is why he was only signed for one year. Denver (Stinger) is on the clock.

Bolded sorta confirms what many have said ever since that draft. Lovie got too involved.
-
With the 21st pick, the Green Bay Packers select Brock Jensen, QB, North Dakota State. If only I were the Green Bay GM. Seriously though, they select Calvin Pryor, FS, Louisville. Big need, potentially BPA. GB friends tell me a TE or Center would be nice, maybe even OL help, but all would be a reach at this point. Philly (Adam) on the clock...

I mentioned those teams because I either live in the area (Titans), and/or have very good friends who are fans that I can bounce ideas off of. Neither Titan fanatic I know believes Manziel falls that far, but both believe he's a can't pass selection despite Locker.
-
With the 11th pick, the Tennessee Titans select, Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M. Titans fans have taken to calling Locker "Mr. Glass." That's not good. Barr is another possibility, especially because his connections to the coaching staff, but Manziel is potentially one of those game-changers that can't be passed on. At the very least he reinvigorates a franchise that is somewhat stagnant. The NY Giants (Adam) are on the clock.

What I'm saying is, he should have never gotten the spare tire.
-
1. QBs need not be athletes if they have Brady's abilities. DEs and LBs are way different. 2. Strength and speed are relative to position. It's why low reps for DEs and DTs mean something most of the time. But it's not the be all end all. Players must still have a combo of abilities. Having said all that, a non-QB player who is not performing needs to bust his ass to improve the various measurables you mentioned. He needs to improve speed, strength, etc. to beat his opponent. Maybe Jared Allen figured out how to improve anticipation, burst, and leverage to overcome his unimpressive bench reps. Therefore, nobody gets concerned about that. But if a player is not improving? A spare tire is the evidence of a lack of off-field effort. And if he's doing all within his disposal, he would probably look much better shirtless than SMC. Otherwise it's on them (unless the GM and HC try to plug a square peg into a round hole and set the player up for failure).
-
Agreed. Lovie will draft D to preserve his misleading reputation as a defensive guru. "Josh McCown is our quarterback."
-
No no. You misunderstand me. I wholeheartedly agree, which is why I always harp on the idea that we fans could pick just as well in the draft as the GMs. Just about all of us knew it was a bad idea to pick him, but they did it anyway. And then they had him bulk up, negating SMC's best asset (speed). Double stupid. Now they are basically admitting their flop with his move to LB. As for him getting cut, you could go back in this board's history and see where I hoped for his success numerous times. I hope he uses his average looking build and turns into another Urlacher. I hope every player on the Bears turns into an all-pro. Obviously. But I don't think he will even start, and I believe he will cement his bust status. The frustration stems from the fact that he had the choice to put on good weight instead of bad weight when he was told to gain. He could have hired dietitians, nutritionists, chefs, personal trainers, etc. and packed on explosive muscle with his multi-million resources. Instead, he clearly didn't put in a full effort, since he was able to transform his body this offseason.

With the 5th pick, the Oakland Raiders select Jake Matthews, LT, Texas A&M. After the shock of the Sammy Watkins pick, the Raiders look to replace Jared Veldheer. The Saffold fiasco was embarrassing, and Penn is not the answer. Passing on a QB was tough, but QBs are somewhat deep and this is a win-now move for a coaching staff and front office that signed a veteran QB, a potential #1 WR, and needs to show improvement this year to keep their jobs. Atlanta (stinger) is on the clock.
