There is a massive difference between your schooling and training, and that of the front office folks of sports. Your training, in many way, is irrefutable and supported by ridiculous amounts of testing and quantitative study. There's obviously is not. And if you had the success rate with patients that they do with drafts, I doubt you'd still be a doctor.

Each of these teams had great drafts. Eagles Bengals Chargers Rams Cardinals

To do this "we act as a GM"-thing, you can't do trades that didn't happen. You don't know if you could have made the trade.

Better than hanging on to the status quo and expecting wildly different results. Gotta take chances in life. I'm not a big fan of being a B average guy in life. You get some failures along the way, but that's the only way you learn and get better. Playing it safe rarely makes someone better.

Gavin Escobar - People screaming about a Long reach should be upset about even the notion of Escobar at TE in the second. Barrett Jones - His injury scares me a bit too, but his pedigree and experience assuage those fears. Johnathan Hankins and Jesse Williams may be the same size, but they move differently. JH has more quickness and short-term explosiveness (i.e. 3-cone drill & 20 short shuttle). Cornerbacks - Scouts may disagree, but I am just not a fan of Banks or Taylor. I don't really want Amerson in the 2nd either, but I'd prefer him over the others.

I would love that scenario. It would be an absolute coup.

I agree the D is questionable. I've said as much many times since they are not consistently top ten, despite what some Lovie fans would lead to believe. Nonetheless, where there are negatives (you mentioned some), there are also positives. Paea and McClellin are one year more seasoned and not coached by Lovie & crew. Jennings should be a monster at CB this year. The safeties will do better through sheer competition. And despite how much I hate losing him, Urlacher being replaced by the players the Bears got actually adds speed to the LB corp (Will speed make up for leadership/knowledge? We will see.). Terra just made it sound like the D was horrible last year, and we needed to draft a ton of D. That couldn't be anything further from the truth.

I'd say if anything he OVER-achieved. Dude was drafted by the White Sox to play professional baseball, beat addiction, and THEN decided to take up football seriously. In just over a year he took that motivation, earned a starting position on one of the most dominant offenses in college football, and worked his way towards a first round draft pick.
-
Amen. Maybe they'll (GASP!) address both sides of the team!? Maybe the Bears will be able to beat teams via offense OR defense?! Maybe the offense might actually scare an opponent for a change. I know that concept scares the "3 yards and a cloud of dust"-crowd, but it excites me. Welcome to the 21st century Chicago Bears! Nice of you finally realize this is turning into an offensive driven, pass happy league.
-
I'm sure Cutler, Forte, Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, Kromer, Trestman, and Emery disagree.
-
Figured as much since you think the D sucks so bad yet was ranked 3rd in pts, 5th in yards, 3rd in first downs, and 8th in passing as well as rushing yards.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen, Cal - Not a 2nd rd. need. Robert Woods, USC - Not a 2nd rd. need. Markus Wheaton, Oregon State - Not a 2nd rd. need. Justin Hunter, Tennessee - Not a 2nd rd. need. Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech - Not a 2nd rd. need. Tight end Zach Ertz, Stanford Gavin Escobar, San Diego State - No thanks. Not in the 2nd. Vance McDonald, Rice - Ditto. Offensive line Menelik Watson, Florida State - No. There's "raw," and then there's "so raw it tries to eat the salad" Larry Warford, Kentucky - Long > Warford. Terron Armstead, Arkansas-Pine Bluff - Small school, no thanks Barrett Jones, Alabama Brian Schwenke, California Defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, Ohio State Jesse Williams, Alabama - 3/4 NT John Jenkins, Georgia - 3/4 NT Kawann Short, Purdue Linebacker Manti Te'o, Notre Dame Kevin Minter, LSU Arthur Brown, Kansas State - Don't like him Cornerback Johnathan Banks, Mississippi State - Don't like him Jamar Taylor, Boise State - No more Boise St. David Amerson, N.C. State

Good point. I hadn't thought of it that way. More often than not, the talking heads want to downgrade someone "started LT but might need to be moved to OG in the NFL."
-
Preach ParkerBear. Preach.
-
Why do you think he'll be inactive? I definitely don't agree. He'll start over Brown.
-
That would be absolutely ideal. If Te'o fell all the way to the Bears next pick it would be an absolute steal. And then to get Barrett Jones later would be unbelievably good.
-
Good post. And what we did know, however, was that the OL sucked, Lovie co to happy submarined it for his Defensive prospects, and that kind of crap wasn't going to fly with a new, offensive minded HC.
-
Look at those four players and their talent level. That's the key.
-
Do you own a tv or watch the games? At the very least look at some stats. Jeez.
-
I read it. BPA is subjective. Need is too. The need at OL was much greater than anywhere else. #1 need and #3 value is better, IMHO, than a lessened need with slightly better value.
-
Completely agree. Maybe a rushed move with thoughts that the value would be gone when they draft in the second rd as well. Can't wait.
-
Again, Emery is a GM. None of us are. End of discussion, right? Value is subjective. Eifert may have been a good value, but they don't need a first rd TE to sit the bench.
-
Not to mention Cutler's mechanics, health, and statistics.
