Good point. Everyone wants to "win now" with the aged stars we have on defense, build for the future of the defense, while relatively ignoring the same reason why the Bears are in the cycle. Bandaids and aging FAs with three years left, that's not the way to build an offense. Well, unless you want to do it continuously every two or three years. I hope Emery and Trestman finally turn this team into an offensive team so we can get out of the current cycle.

Morning. I don't know what the heck you're talking about. Is a good enough passer to be a QB? No. Is he going to throw as a RB/WR? No. So it makes little or no difference whether he throws better than another WR. Sure, I'll admit there is a certainty he throws better than Hester or Marshall. But who cares? How many times will any of them throw the ball? Which is why you bringing up whether he throws the ball well a moot point. As for a WR/RB/PR/KR...a flyer on him is all I'd take. 6th? Sure. But I think he'll be a bust because he has never played WR, doesn't understand the nuances of the position, and ultimately will rely on what he has relied on his whole life: athleticism. The problem? Everybody in the NFL is athletic.

If he refuses to take a spot as a backup, he'll be out of the league soon. As for horrible practice player, I'd have to see proof of that. Every indication from everything he's said and done is that he's a competitor who gives 110% on a daily basis. He never complains. He busts his ass. And he has to keep overcoming people who doubt him. Which is understanding at this level. Changing how you throw is a very hard thing to do. Which is why I think he needs coaching. What makes me want him as a backup on the Bears? Aside from all of the above? He's a winner. Period. He's also a great guy. It's funny that nearly everyone on this board is against guys like TO or Moss because they are locker-room cancers, but nearly nobody wants to support a guy who appears to be one of the better human beings on the freaking planet.

I wouldn't take the tone if you didn't post outlandish nonsense. He'd throw as a RB/WR the same way anyone would, on a trick play. But now you're talking about just a random skill position player throwing the ball, which happens, what, once a season? Yeah, that's a smart draft investment. When considering someone's draft stock, we better factor in the one throw dude might make a season. That's definitely the tipping point of why the Bears should invest a draft pick in a guy who, for all intents and purposes, is changing from the QB position to WR because he literally does not have the passing skills to remain at QB.

As a backup who will receive time to develop. I make not argument for him as a starter. He's better than people give him credit for, but he needs work with a QB guru, and a steady helping of patience from a team, in order to fully develop his skills. As it stands now, however, he's a much better QB than Denard freaking Robinson.

Fine with me. The 2nd TE on the Bears roster is about the furthest thing from a necessity right now. Virtually every position on offense is needed more than a 2nd TE.

And until that skill is at least tapped as a resource, nobody ever knows if the skill is there. It's like being a world class marathoner and always deciding to ride your bike. You just never know until the skill is exploited. If it turns out he's not talented at all - his collegiate highlights and his personal attributes suggest otherwise - then end the experiment. But the point of my post was that he's got virtually the same size as the other guys, and should be playing the same position, but the Bears have not exploited his talents yet.

Thank you. The comparisons to the Bears' OL are just not legit. As I've said a million times, simple stats like hits and sacks don't paint the entire picture. Watch a game and you can plainly see that Rodgers, more often than not, has plenty of time to throw the ball.

1. Better quickness? This is the same guy that needs help with footwork and breaks? Unlikely that he's quicker than Welker. More top end speed? I can buy that. 2. Plus he can throw? hahaha...are you kidding me? Dude has a weak arm, lacks consistency, lacks vision, doesn't anticipate throws, runs too quickly in the pocket when he gets rattled, etc. His stats as a passer in college are nowhere near a guy like Tebow, and Tebow has been getting destroyed as a horrible QB by most for two years. Having said all that, he's also tiny. 6th round maybe. When you draft a guy to be a WR, he should have WR skills. You shouldn't have to start from the ground-floor with him when he enters the NFL.

The sad thing is, I literally believe selection7 could do a better job than Drake. That guy made zero improvement to any of the Bears' WRs the entire time he was in Chicago. If anything, he only made players worse.

I'm sorry, but after watching each game of the playoffs, and several of the other games from the last few weekends, GB most certainly does not have a terrible OL. And if their OL is considered terrible, then the Bears' OL is absolutely criminal. More often than not, Rodgers has plenty of time to throw the ball. And several times a game he is sitting in the pocket unmolested for several seconds. The former happens much more frequently than it does for the Bears, and the latter virtually never happens. I agree that Rodgers has something Cutler doesn't, whatever it is, but I am sick of seeing this false comparison to Green Bay as if their OL is as bad as Chicago's OL. No way.

Seems like you're harboring issues for the dude. His story sure seems to line up. All the facts seem to fall into perfect alignment with his perspective. According to reports, he didn't pause or hesitate when answering questions. He was forthcoming. Add to that the fact that all other players in this saga have either corroborated his story or straight up accepted blame for it, and it almost unequivocally looks like he is not full of it. Naive? Sure. Perhaps a little stupid? Yeah, I can go with that. It's not like that's the first time a football player has been kind of stupid. But the whole "disgusting human being"-angle is pretty much disproven.

Since we're talking about interesting similarities and dissimilarities between the best TEs in the league and the Bears' TEs, I also find this interesting... Vernon Davis - 6'3", 250 Tony Gonzalez - 6'5", 247 Aaron Hernandez - 6'1", 245 Dennis Pitta - 6'4", 240 Evan Rodriguez - 6'2", 239 Close enough for me. Focus elsewhere in the draft. He needs to be the starting TE going into training camp next year. As for the other TE spot (since Davis and Spaeth both suck), find a 7th round or UDFA beast who either played college basketball or bounced between TE/OL and put him in there (depending on offensive philosophy). No reason to use a draft pick where one is not needed.

Seems like the sequence of this mock is done pretty well. Of course, I agree with most others in saying the 2nd round DT is a horrible pick. Especially if it's Spence.

I disagree. Roach is a solid, but not spectacular starter. Getting a LB may be a need, but I don't think it's a 2nd round need by any means.

Agreed. Trestman understands the importance of an OL and developing QBs. Lovie probably understood both, but lacked the desire to do the former and the ability to do the latter.

If he were a WR, that would matter. He's Devin Hester 2.0, but without the initial special teams ability.

He has accuracy issues, which can be solved by a QB guru like Trestman. What he doesn't lack, however, is arm strength, speed, leg strength, explosiveness, and heart.

I like how they tie in Tebow to the story. And you know what? I've said it before and I'll say it again, bring him to Chicago. I'd love to see him as a backup to Cutler. Give him time to develop, and I think he could make a fine QB in the NFL. Honestly, I don't see him as being too far away from some other guys like Russell Wilson who tore up the league this year. It's all about opportunity and surrounding. He was royally screwed in NY, and should have been starting QB there by week 8. Bring winning football players to Chicago. Period. If hiring Cavanaugh means Tebow is coming to the Windy City, so be it.

Me thinks you're too harsh. He's saying, just because someone failed as a HC (and whether or not he failed at SF is up for interpretation) doesn't mean they are destined for failure elsewhere. I think Iron Mike knows enough about defense that he could be a stellar DC, and eventually work his way back into a HC position now that he knows his own weaknesses.
