Mayock is, in fact, a huge douche, but he was right about that INT.
-
I agree that Cutler held the ball several times, but I have to wonder why. A few times it was because the WRs were not open. A couple other times it was because Cutler tried to make a second read. More than one or two other times it was because the routes were run poorly. I'm sorry, but if Cutler does not have time to go into his 5 step drop, plant his foot, take a look, and throw the ball, then that's a huge problem. And if he doesn't have time to go to his second read, that's a pretty big damn problem too. The one INT that definitely appears to be 100% on Cutler is the deep out to Marshall. He had enough time to throw the ball, and the route was sufficient, and the WR was open, but Cutler just underthrew it.
-
The thing I worry about is whether or not Cutler's confidence is shot.
-
Typically broken plays like that are where the WRs drift with the QB, come back to the ball, or break off a route to beat a safety that has pinched in. Mayock was right. Notice he didn't totally absolve Cutler on that one, but he did note that the WR has to share in the blame.

I don't know what the hell you're watching, but Cutler has been under pressure 95% of the plays. And when he does get some time, the WRs are not open. I'm literally getting texts from friends across the world who are watching this game and telling me how bad the Bears OL sucks. Fans of every team you could think of. If you honestly think this is more on Cutler than the OL, then you should train your seeing eye dog to bark when there is pressure, because you obviously haven't seen what's happening.

Easy answer... First half: Angry Second half: Drunk

I really don't have much to complain about in regards to the defense tonight. They've held the packers defense to minimal production, regardless of whether or not I hate the method they've used. I hate the cover-2 as much as the next guy. I hate the passive nature of it. I don't really like Lovie all that much. But it sure must be difficult to do much when constantly put under the gun by a bad offense.
-
You got that right. I blame the OL much more than Cutler. The OL is entirely to blame for their own performance, and partially responsible for Cutler's bad performance. It's tough to constantly be under pressure, constantly get hit, constantly have to run for your life, and still keep your eyes up field. Much less make good decisions. The OL has been a problem for several years, and the front office has not done enough to protect their franchise player. The Bears have drafted a defensive lineman in the first three rounds for SEVEN STRAIGHT YEARS for Lovie's damn baby. The OL deserves the same attention. Cutler deserves the protection. This shit is not new! Fix the stinking problem.

Webb never should have been starting. Not last year, not this year. But for some reason, Lovie and Tice want to have sweaty man love with him and refuse to bench him for sucking. Which he does.
-
No. You are not crazy. It's the most simple solution ever proposed. It's one I've been saying ever since Spencer was signed as the replacement for Olin. And before anyone challenges that concept, it's been gone over before, and it's been proven. Google it. Garza has played pretty well at Center, but if switching him and Spencer means Spencer actually plays decent and Garza plays about the same, it's a no-brainer to make the move.
-
I remember one really fast spin move that led to a pressure, but that's about it.
-
Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but the horrendous play had little to do with Tice. The OL was complete garbage, Jay was rattled, and they didn't stand a chance of doing anything worthwhile.

Agreed with the bolded part quite a bit. Keep the faith for both of us, because history indicates it won't last. I just hope he doesn't screw the pooch when the Bears need him the most.
-
I agree completely. What makes this scary is the Bears' D is predicated on forcing mistakes. Many of those mistakes are via confusion and misdirection. Aaron Rodgers does not get confused very easily. What that leaves is a lot of situations where the Bears will have the deep routes covered up, but the underneath routes wide open. It's been that way for quite some time in Chicago. It's one of the primary reasons the Bears lost the Super Bowl. I expect Rodgers to have a pretty good game with most of his work on 5-10 yard passes. It's up to the Bears to just bat or intercept one or two of those passes and tackle soundly if they want to win. Bears 35 - Packers 31

Because it's unrecognizable and stinks?

Because stuff like this is happening

I have to say I saw this coming. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...-goal-line.html It may be minor right now, but when we get later in the season and Bush has half as many carries but just as many TDs, expect more rumblings from Forte.

I'll add ChicagoFootballTalk.com to my regular dosage of Bears media, but I've found YBR to be motive-driven and misrepresentative at times.

It's in the nature of Bears fans to be somewhat pessimistic even after a big win. I agree with most of the posts above, but a summary of my thoughts: 1) Cutler looked great for the most part 2) The OL looked horrible to start, did very well the rest of the game. If Williams isn't going to be used at LT (still a mistake in my opinion), then he should replace Spencer. 3) The lack of pass rush against a rookie QB with a mediocre OL doesn't hurt as much as it does against other teams 4) Jennings made two nice picks, but I thought the second one was more a product of an underthrown ball than anything 5) That rookie QB, regardless of the game situation, still threw for 300+ yards. 6) #3-#5 is OK against a rookie QB, but not against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' WRs

I liked the resting of Urlacher, but in terms of stepping on another team's neck, I prefer Belichik's approach. With the way the Bears' prevent works, it's inevitable that the other team will score. Twenty points is just not comfortable enough in my opinion to start relaxing in the middle of the third quarter (I had no problem with it in the last 5 or so minutes of the 4th quarter).
-
Overall it's hard to be upset with a 20 point win where the Bears score over 40. The WRs looked good. The pass protection was very good. Rodriguez had some great blocks. The play-calling was mostly what I'd like to see. Shea Mac had some good energy. Jeffery looked explosive. And Marshall was all the #1 we've heard about. But if I had to pick things out that the Bears need to work on: 1) Cutler needs to stop staring down and/or forcing it to Marshall. 1a) The TEs need to be more involved 2) Lovie Smith still needs a "challenge replay" assistant. I knew he'd screw the pooch after throwing the first flag successfully. 3) There was a stretch from the middle of the third to the middle of the fourth where the Bears took their foot off the gas. This is Lovie Smith's M.O. and he needs to get over it. With the weapons the Bears have, the offense shsould be full throttle. 4) Along the lines of #3, please stop with the prevent defense. Everyone hates it, and it almost never works. Luck's TD doesn't happen if not for the soft defense. 5) More pass rush. There was nearly none in the second half. Overall, however, great game. Superb start to the season.

Very happy with the turnaround the offense has made. Solid protection. Great release blocking by TEs. Great catches by Hester, Forte, and Marshall. The only thing I'd like right now is for Cutler to stop focusing so intently on Marshall as a security blanket. Check downs are OK.
-
This is effing ridiculous. No pass blocking. No run blocking. Cutler ALWAYS under pressure. Cutler + pressure = bad decisions
-
Wow. Great start by the OL & TE.
