    Word on Martz

I don't really have a problem with 90% of what you said, but I am curious where you get the "his scheme is severely outdated" thing from? Gets QBs killed? There is data to support that. But I don't see how one of the most complex schemes in the NFL could be considered outdated. Maybe difficult to implement and execute successfully, but definitely not outdated. It's not like the opponents have completely figured it out...they've just figured it out when the Martz offense is severely hamstrung.

    Word on Martz

Good post overall. I wonder if Martz and Tice often butt heads and they have non-complimentary styles (i.e. the possibility that Lovie calls out Martz but doesn't ask Tice to change to a style that may actually compliment the play calling). Regarding the shotgun, at least then Cutler gets a head start.

    Word on Martz

Agreed. Martz may have screwed up the last game, and his scheme may be wrong for the personnel, but the atrocious OL put out by the Bears is enough to cause any OC to pull out his own hair due to player failure.
  4. I know what you're saying, but if Angelo actually thinks that, then he's mentally incapable of doing his job and he has a horrendous understanding of how football is actually played. Angelo may know the cap and the check-book, but he's not good at evaluation or drafting.
  5. Agreed. The notion that we'd be upset at a mid-round guy starting is absurd since nearly everyone was clamoring for more than simply Carimi in the draft as well as in free agency. Also, considering that Marcus Gilbert is starting at RT for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Rodney Hudson is the primary backup for three positions (LG,C,RG) in KC, I'm thinking that one of those guys would be helping the team a bit more than Stephen Paea is right now. The options and scenarios are endless. To say that the Bears did "all they could do" to address the most glaring team need for the past three years is absolutely ludicrous.

    Forte vs Angelo

Instead of resigning Forte, JA will probably trade him in the offseason for a 4th round pick and a DT with potential who has struggled to break into the starting lineup on another team.
  7. That's a very good point lemon. Why do all the presnap garbage if the QB is not allowed to adjust accordingly? Is the presnap garbage just to set up plays later in the game? If so, there are three problems. 1. Why didn't we see them? 2. Was it even possible for the advantage to be gained when Cutler was running like non-credited fodder in a horror film? 3. Doesn't Martz realize the opponents could be disguising their defense?
  8. Wow. Either this guy is war-crimes level stupid or just saying what he has to say without throwing the team/coaches/players under the bus. If it's the former, I hate him more than I already dislike him. Did all he could do?! I seem to recall the Bears having more than one draft pick this year.
  9. 1-3: Same concept: run more. Maybe a few counters, a couple dive plays, and a few sweeps could have worked. Who knows? But I do know that all but two runs got stuffed. 4a: Agreed. I want to see the old-school Redskins max-protect. Send out 2 WRs (Knox & Hester), and keep the TEs as well as the RB in. 4b: What happened to the quick routes? Ask Bennett's ribs and Sanzenbacher's chest. 4c: Agreed. I'd like to see a few roll outs. Keep in mind, however, that most of the pressure is from the outside DEs blasting around the statues the Bears call OTs. That could easily lead to Cutler rolling into someone coming full speed. If roll outs are implemented, it's a good thing they'll most likely be away from Webb. 4d: Agreed, somewhat. This was tried once if I recall correctly, and it got destroyed because the middle of the OL got collapsed. Seeing a couple more would probably yield results. 4e: Disagreed. I'm not saying the TE should be on an island, but when you put a TE out there, surely the intention is not for a 1-on-1. It's up to the TE to establish, with his quicker feet, an outside leverage position so that he can take advantage of the potential double team. In this regard, the players simply have to do better. Martz has to have some players out in passing routes. You're right in one regard though...this entire coaching staff appears to think telling the players "do better" is the same as coaching. Which is crazy since the majority of us have played, watched, and/or been involved with enough football to know that you don't keep banging your head into a 9-man front, and you don't consistently throw into a dime package. What bugs me about the Martz offense is all the motion that appears to give the Bears no discernable advantage. I'd like to see less presnap motion if it's not gaining advantage and potentially causing confusion. I'd prefer they line-up with an identified purpose for execution.
  10. The question was partially in jest. BTW - I'm pretty sure that... Max Protect: Resulted in a TE getting burned for a hit on Cutler Draw: Got stuffed Screens: Got stuffed or ruined most of the time Maybe Shotgun is the key?!

    Gabe Carimi

Gabe Carimi at 80% is better than a 100% Frank Omiyale holding a loaded shotgun.
  12. Bears 17 - Packers 16 The Bears' D steps up and wins the game with a crucial turnover. Cutler: 20/34, 240yds, 1TD, 2INTs Forte: 22 rushes, 75yds, 1TD, 6 rec., 50yds Hester: 5 rec., 85yds Knox: 4 rec., 70yds Sanzenbacher: 3 rec., 25yds

    OG Reggie Wells cut

Is he a breathing player not collecting social security or disability? If so, then the answer should be yes. Bring the guy in and see what he's got.
  14. What happens when you get spoiled lemons? He should be trying to make lemonade, but with the ingredients it's difficult to find a successful recipe.
  15. I'll chime in with some of the same. 1. It's not time to get rid of Martz. Not during the season. Bad idea. 2. Putting Tice in as OC would be stupid since he can't even get the OL to play above atrocious. Bad idea. 3. Martz needs to call more runs. Good idea. I think balta hit on something though...did Martz really say before the game, "Ya know, these clowns can't pass block for shit. We should pass a bunch." Of course he didn't. Forte had 9 rushes in the first half. There was one good play of 42 yards. The other 8 were: 1, -4, 4, 0, -1, 8, -1, and 0. With that kind of production I can see why he steered away from the run. The problem isn't more passes than rushes; the problem is that he didn't just steer away from the run, he swerved. Forte had one rush in the second half (0 yards BTW). Again, with an OL that can't run block (see above) and can't pass block (see Cutler's ass meeting the ground), there aren't a lot of options for Martz. Yes, he needs to mix it up more. A safer option for Cutler's health is probably a run/pass ratio of 90/10, but that won't win games. I just don't know what ratio will work though. If Martz can count on less than 2 yards for 75% of the runs, then he eventually has to pass anyway.
  16. You're missing something here. If the Pats had more plays, and more passing plays, then it stands to reason - if, that is, the Bears' OL is allowing a normal percentage of hits - that they'd have more hits and sacks on Brady. But they don't. If anything the Patriots, et. al. should have more pressures, hits, and sacks against their QBs than the Bears do.
  17. Agreed. There should be a 1a and 1b. 1a. You can't blame a guy for driving a guy for driving a Pinto when all his parents will buy him is a Pinto. 1b. Audibles are a must in any system. I don't know where the "Martz doesn't allow audibles" thing came from, and I've only just recently heard about it. I don't believe anyone mentioned it all last year. But if it is true, then he's no better than Shoop in this regard with those dumbass, non-audible, check-downs. Cutler needs to be given a little freedom when he sees 10 in the box.
  18. Absolutely wrong. Look at any predominant passing team for stats that refute your point. Even if you drop back every time, you shouldn't expect your QB to get hit every other play. And Cutler was pressured MORE than every other time. IDK what the acceptable percentage is for a predominant passing team, but it's certainly much lower than the beating Cutler has endured. For what it's worth, NFL.com has OL stats, and the Bears are dead last. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?arc...;qualified=true Of the QBs who have thrown at least as many times as Culter, none are close to receiving the hits he has received. Sacks/Hits Brady: 3/7 Rivers: 4/8 Brees: 4/7 Newton: 8/13 Henne: 6/16 Rex: 5/16 Cutler: 11/18 And that doesn't even consider the number of times he's been pressured.
  19. Thank you for saving me the time of looking that up. This "he didn't get sacked until the second half" talk is just BS nonsense. He took a beating well before then. The sacks are just a matter of statistics.
  20. Cutler needs to change his underwear, because the Saints hit the shit out of him.
  21. And I've been saying for longer that it's awfully difficult to really see what the Bears have at WR when the QB only gets to plant his backfoot about 5 times a game. I'm certainly not convinced the WRs are all-pro, but it's damn near impossible to know what they could do until the OL gives Cutler some time.
  22. -Give up on the run too quickly? Absolutely. -Coaches to blame? Certainly some of it falls in their laps. -But if the QB drops back that many times, you expect a better percentage of success if you are an NFL Coach. Let's keep that in mind; these freakin guys are in the NFL and should be expected to play as such at least part of the time. The coaches shouldn't have to resort to peewee league offensive game plans of run right, run middle, run left. The number of times Cutler got pressured was far too close to the total number of times he dropped back.
  23. Is it personal if you actually are an idiot? It doesn't take a genius to actually remember that you criticized Martz multiple times last week then played Monday Morning Quarterback and acted like you were his biggest fanboy when everyone else was giving him credit. Ripping him this week is not difficult since everyone has done it...all you had to do is follow your own playbook, fanboy.
  24. And some of us have been saying so for nearly 5 years! But noooooo, even after Cutler nearly got murdered last year, the Bears barely addressed the biggest need, the naysayers still rode the coaching staff's nutsack, and Cutler has still taken a beating this year in two games.
