Just for the record, I said YEARS ago that the Bears should use the 3-4. It would not only be beneficial because most teams don't see it consistently, but it would also help with the Bears strengths (i.e. LBs). Your idea of Brown at LB is intriguing, as would the idea of Anderson lining up there. I don't see why it couldn't work.
-
I nodded in agreement throughout this entire post. God I hate the Bears' coaches.
-
Awesome post! Great to see stats confirming that the Bears' have five bums on the OL.
-
I'm in agreement that it probably happens, but there is no way in hell I'm "good with it."

Quickly... 1: Should have been a win 2: W 3: W 4: W Bye 5: Should have been a win 6: Got killed 7: W 8: W 9: Got killed 10: Should have been a win 11: Should have been a win 12: Got killed That's 8-3 right there. Very easily could have been 7-4.

Without even looking at the breakdown of games or stats, the obvious answer to this is yes. Anyone who says otherwise didn't watch the games.

This is the most infuriating aspect of the season right now. We know it's over. They know it's over. So why not give the younger guys, the guys with potential, more time in the game? Jamar Williams, Gaines Adams, Jarron Gilbert, DJ Moore, Juaquin Iglesias, Devin Aromashodu All of these guys need to get more playing time. Doing otherwise doesn't make sense. And the changes to the OL you suggested are common sense...too bad they won't happen. Williams is a LT...why not play him there? Omilaye is a RT...why not play him there? Beekman is a C...why not play him there? This staff pisses me off.

That cracked me up. That ball boy got all sorts of press for sprinting down the sideline on the return.

Great Superbowl, but too predictable. That's far too bandwagon for my tastes. I want to see the Saints go undefeated and beat the Titans in the Superbowl. That's the best of both worlds. The Saints get to shut up the 72 Dolphins - who had an incredibly weak schedule - and the Titans get to finish the miracle season.

Here you go...just check the sidebar to the article. Madden Video Game thoughts

This, this, OMFG, this. I hate the MLB crowding the line, faking the blitz, and then retreating to cover the seam route by the TE 30 yards down the field. One, it's stupid because EVERYONE knows the MLB blitzes in the Bears' scheme about 2% of the time. Two, it's stupid because it's leaving a massive hole for the MLB to cover (as you alluded to). And three, it's stupid because it causes unnecessary wear and tear on the MLB throughout the game. Why make the guy run an extra 2 miles in the game when it's not needed?

RB - You think Forte changed that much in ONE year? WR - Some evaluation can be done, but it can't be complete. The one I disagree with the most is your thoughts on the short route on 3/7. This has happened with ALL WRs under Turner, not just these guys.
-
The funny thing is, I don't think it would be worse. I think it might be better. The Sports Guy mentioned something like this recently, and I wholeheartedly agree.
-
Yes, I did. It's been corrected. thanks.
-
I pretty much agree. But, as you know, I don't think RBs, WRs, and QBs can be properly evaluated if the OL stinks. There simply isn't time to develop the talent, or to utilize a full collection of plays. Do the Bears need better WRs? It's possible, but I can't say that anyone can really affirm this based upon play, because the OL has been so atrocious that it has limited the Bears' offense in countless ways.

Thanks to RockfordBears for the thought... Lovie Smith is Coach Dale The similarities are astounding. Neither has a clue how to adjust to any gametime situation. Both are stuck in "their system" so much that other concepts are an affront to their knowledge. In fact, they run their system to the fault of their team's talent. How else can we explain the fact that Coach Dale wanted to give the ball to someone other than Jimmy, who was shooting 98% throughout the playoffs? Speaking of that, both mismanage their players' talents. Much like Coach Dale, Lovie insists on forcing the square peg into the round hole, or maybe everyone else is wrong () about the cover-2 minimizing the talents of players like Urlacher. Both rely on loyal but incompetent assistant coaches who make inane comments about things like "letting paint dry on the fence." To summarize: 1-Neither makes a decent game time adjustment. 2-Both believe in their system to a fault. 3-Both use their system as a means to stifle creativity 4-Both make poor decisions 5-Both mismanage talent 6-Both choose horrible assistant coaches Turner as Shooter Let's be honest, Turner calls plays like a drunk. There, I said it. Babich as that other coach Babich is the defensive coordinator in name only, because Lovie is running the show (which may or may not be good). Nobody knows the other guy's name, and to be quite honest, Babich is quickly being forgotten. I'm fairly certain that both just collected a paycheck. Urlacher is Jimmy Chitwood When Urlacher is gone, the team just isn't the same. If he were to come back and demand that Lovie stays, I'm quite sure he'd get his way. That's how much he's loved and needed in Chicago. Argue the need all you want, but this defense has NEVER been this bad when Urlacher has been in. Bearstalk as the townsfolk We want a change. We realize we need a change. And like the townsfolk, who were right by the way (see above Coach Dale critique), we're willing to go to drastic measures to get a new coach. Is there anything I'm missing here? Except, of course, the success in Hoosiers and the lack of success on the Bears?
-
LMFAO. You just compared to Babich to a drunk, and Lovie to one of the worst coaches in coaching history (proof in a thread to come).
-
Because of the "wink wink nudge nudge" aspect of the hire. It's essentially a promise to Weis that A] Barring a miracle, Lovie is getting fired soon, B] He gets full control of the offense, maybe even co-HC of some kind, and C] He gets a chance to prove himself in a situation with a lot of tools on offense. I don't see it as an unreasonable choice for Weis.
-
From a different perspective, this doesn't surprise me, and only adds fuel to the idea that all the INTs aren't Cutler's fault. Blatant Defensive PIs not called: 2 or 3 Running into the Umpire: 1 Receivers ran the wrong route: 2 or 3 Receivers fell down: 2 or 3 Receivers tipped balls: 2 or 3 Even a modest approximation puts about half of the INTs on someone else, or at least shares a good majority of the blame. And that's not even giving Turner any blame for constantly setting up Cutler and the offense for failure with his boneheaded calls.
-
Echoing both posts here, there is no excuse. Turner is not a good OC because he doesn't call a good game AND he doesn't improve players. And he's just one of the coaches on this staff who refuse to instill discipline or a solid gameplan.
-
It's been rumored, but now it's pretty much a sure bet: Weis is gone This should be an easy one. 1. Fire Turner 1a. Punch him in the gut on the way out of Halas Hall 2. Contact Weis publicly 3. Hire Weis as "OC" (wink wink nudge nudge) 4. At the end of the season, fire Lovie 4a. If it costs too much, keep Lovie around but give the real power to Weis 5. At the end of the next season, fire Lovie 5a. Punch Lovie in the gut on the way out of Halas Hall 6. If the offense is doing well, and living up to expectation, promote Weis Easy.
-
LOL. This is hilarious because it's so ridiculous that turning over the reigns to someone previously proven incompetent would possibly be an improvement.
-
Oh, surprise, surprise, yet another person who thinks Urlacher would be better in a system that doesn't suck.

Reading the article, it sounds like Brian is having some fun while away. Fun like this:

Regarding the final comment, there is no way in hell Jauron should have won that award. Many on this board, myself included, didn't think he should have won it, and didn't want him to win it. It was all smoke and mirrors, and the Bears won because that defense was NASTY. Jauron, much like Shoop, hindered the team more than helping it. The coach of the year award that year proved to me that the voters don't actually watch the games, and only look at the stats and highlight reels.
