  1. The "has more years in the NFL and should be more ready to contribute"-line is not always equal. You can give Tre McBride 20 years in the NFL, and he's still not going to be as ready to contribute as most 1st round WRs are in their first year. Also, McBride was on Tennessee's practice squad for two years. They were led by a TE in receiving yards in 2015, and their WR corp was atrocious last year. If McBride was worth a damn, he'd have gotten some playing time at least last year.
  2. You might want to recheck that correlation to Cohen. He runs a 4.4, has been rumored at times sub-4.4, and put up a 4.42 at the combine. He most certainly has enough speed for long runs in the NFL. Mizzell may be Cunningham, but he's no Cohen.
  3. At the same time, they don't build multi-billion dollar buildings in the desert because they are bad at setting the point spread. If they put the line off too far one way, they stand to lose significantly. If the line were -3 Bears, there would be a boatload of money put on the Falcons.
  4. I took it to mean important this year. After all, the question inside the poll says, "Who is the most important Bear to succeed this year?"
  5. Howard, easy. He's the star of the offense. Glennon and rookie Trub have minimal difference.
  6. 100% agree. If you can improve incrementally, you do so at every possible spot.
  7. Why? Kasen Williams is a scrub. He hasn't done anything in two years as a pro, and wasn't even that impressive in college.
  8. Agree with everyone's surprise. Meredith out, Cruz cut, and the one guy who has been kicking ass gets cut as well? So the Bears are left with White, who may be the biggest mystery on the team, Wheaton, and Wright?

    WR Corps

I'm as excited about Gentry as he next guy, but I don't see how he leap frogged all the vets. Let's see him play against some first team defenses before announcing him the next best WR. The other guys have proven themselves in one way or another against actual starting NFL defenses.
  10. Nope. Not cheap. Two hits below the waist is completely legal. Additionally, it's not like they were hitting a stationary target or a RB coming through a single A-gap. The first guy went guy to hit him was the safety, and it's a perfectly legal hit. In fact, initial contact is right about at the waist. The second guy to hit him is an OLB, and he starts his initial thrust to tackle just as the safety is making contact. Furthermore, he's not really that low either. He came in about waist-high, but his contact point was changed because the first hit was so significant. Was the LB supposed to pull up? Would you have preferred the safety go high and target? Last but not least, I'm not even sure the second hit contributed to the injury all that much. The safety just came in with enough force and at such an angle that after his initial contact around the waist his momentum took him forward and downward into the knee. Check it out for yourself. http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=20477677 Like it or not, every level of football has told players to lower their target. Neither tackler dove at ankles and specifically went low.
  11. I'm not happy about the injury, but how was it cheap? It was a clean hit, with bad luck of two guys coming from different angles.
  12. Very good point about the line and the running game. I'll double down on that and note that the play-calling has allowed him to get outside the pocket, further limiting the beating a young QB needs to avoid in order for greater confidence moving forward.
  13. Understood, and mostly agreed. I just wish retaining him could have been done for a cheaper price.
  14. The quotes in this article remind me a lot of Lovie. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colum...824-column.html "Mike Glennon is our quarterback."
  15. 1. Howard 2. Cohen 3. Cunningham 4. Langford Other than Langford's continued employment, this injury changes nothing.
  16. Agreed. This is an atrocious signing. Leno is not in the top half of LTs in the league, much less worthy of his 14th highest salary. He will have to improve by leaps and bounds to make this deal worth it. And just because the draft is a crap shoot doesn't mean you accept the sub-par and stop throwing the dice. Agreed. I don't think he has a chance at being top half. I hope he does, but I don't think he will.
  17. I think that was everyone's hope. I didn't like the idea overall, since it was betting on Glennon being much better than he previously showed. Hopefully he is MUCH better in the regular season. Otherwise the move by the Bears front office looks as bad as many have said it looked/looks. Imagine we have two more preseason games of Glennon looking like garbage and Trubisky looking like a stud. That will not sit well, and it will create a QB controversy. The longer that extends into the season the worse it will be. Also, imagine they went all-in on the "sign Eric Berry"-campaign (or Bouye) with some of the money Glennon got. With the way the front seven is looking, all that will be needed is one major star in the defensive backfield. It's what I've argued all along. Look for Glennon to shit the bed in 6-8 games, lose the team, lose the hopes of a winning season, and Trubisky to take over for him in the second half when the fervor gets too loud.
  18. I haven't even watched the game yet and my answer is Trubisky. I've been opposed since the beginning to how the Bears handled the QB process this offseason, and I still think they screwed up. The guy who should start week 1 is Trubisky. Let him get his lumps. Let him learn from a ton of reps. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Aaron Rodgers, blah blah blah, but that's just not reality for most first round QBs, particularly those selected in the top 5. Just about any player at any level will tell you experience is the best teacher. He needs reps. Put him in week 1.

    RB Depth Chart

Update: Tarik Cohen has FIRMLY placed himself at the #2 spot. There is no doubt whatsoever he's going to get serious touches this year.

    Bears vs. Cards

The second preseason game, unfortunately for the front office, probably showed why Glennon never should have been signed. There were other, cheaper options that could have been used as a bridge until Trubisky, who the Bears were clearly willing to sell the farm for, was ready to start.

One of the main reasons I put him at 2.

    RB Depth Chart

After the first preseason game, one thing is clear: The RB depth chart is going to get interesting. Howard is locked in at #1, but Cohen was damn impressive. I thought Carey was pretty damn impressive in limited carries as well. Cunningham may have surprised some with his one big run, and for his sake it better over shadow the rest. He didn't look all that explosive to me. In fact, when he came in after Cohen is looked like a significant slow down. Right now I'd say Carey is #2, Cohen is #3, and Cunningham is fighting with Langford for #4.
  23. Barth: 18/23 (78.3%) total, 14/16 (87.5%) less than 40yds, 4/7 (57.1%) more than 40yds, TBs (40%) Aguayo: 22/31 (71%) total, 18/20 (90%) less than 40yds, 4/11 (36.3%) more than 40yds, TBs (64.2%) Overall FG%: Barth Close FG%: Aguayo Far FG%: Barth Touchbacks: Aguayo Make no mistake, everything above turns into points. Either for the Bears or for the other team. I'd argue the TB % difference more significant than the long FG% difference. Furthermore, if Barth attempted 4 more long FGs, percentages say he only makes 1 or 2 more. Here's another tidbit, dude was incredibly unlucky last year. He had three different FGs hit the upright (Eagles, Panthers, and Bengals). He also had a 48yd FG blocked by an edge rusher, which isn't his fault. I agree about his mechanics though. His approach seems inconsistent with the length and speed of the steps.
