In regards to the bolded, that's what everyone does. Virtually nobody sits a top 5 pick. That's why the Rams and Jeff Fisher got blistered for it last year. If the Bears drafted a top-5 QB and he didn't start, then Glennon better have a monster year. Otherwise everyone would be calling for Fox and Pace to step down, just like what happened to the Rams. And if that top-5 QB sat for more than one year behind an under-performing Glennon (or whoever), but then went on to a HOF career, it's a guarantee he would be doing it under a different coach and GM, because their asses would be gone for not starting a QB who should have obviously been starting to begin with. The Fartv & Rodgers comparison is weak for multiple reasons. First, they drafted Rodgers when Fartv was still a top QB in the league. Of course Rodgers wasn't going to get starts. Second, Rodgers wasn't a top-5 pick. I'm sure if the Packers were bad enough to get a top-5 pick, they wouldn't have been picking a QB to sit behind Farv for 3 years. Third, Rodgers' drop to the late first was a fluke. He was thought of as the #1 overall guy just a few weeks before the draft, and then the bizarre situation of his fall became reality. When he fell into the Packers' lap, they were in the position of a playoff team that had a top 5 offense, and figured to continue their winning ways. They were picking from a position of power (something the Bears obviously can't do). Thankfully for us, their leading rusher and receiver went down the next year, and they sucked.

You're right about the cash not being an issue, but that's not a sound way to run a franchise. You don't spend huge money on someone you plan on sitting on the bench just because you have extra cash. If the Bears pick a QB at #3 this year, I'll be very upset. It will be a bad move for a variety of reasons, one of which is the Glennon signing. A #3 pick should be a person that comes in and start immediately. If it's a non-QB, that person should make an immediate impact because, presumably, they're better than the player at the position at which they were drafted. If it's a QB, you want that guy in immediately to get as many reps and knowledge as possible. Sure, there are some guys who have sat for a few years and have become very good, but the general consensus is that a 1st round QB needs to get in and get the reps.

Agree. That's why I'm hoping he drops like many are saying, and he's there late first or early second. That's where the Bears should really be targeting him (or Kizer).

If they truly thought that, then they were nuts for signing Glennon to the big deal. The could have stuck with mediocre guys and journeymen, anticipating a #3 QB pick.

Agree. It would be stupid to pay Glennon all that cash and then pick a QB at #3. You're essentially saying, "Hey first rounder, you're worthy of the #3 pick in the entire draft, which means you're one of the best players in the nation, but we don't think you can beat out a multi-year NFL backup or help us this year."
  6. This is amazing! http://bearswire.usatoday.com/2017/04/10/t...blow-your-mind/
  7. You're right, but this group also needs to be given all the opportunities possible. Especially White. Adding another upper-middle WR means the deal for Wheator or Wright is wasted cash.

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please....
  9. That's hilarious! You could line them both up in the backfield on gadget plays just to cause more confusion!
  10. That's about as good as anyone is going to do. Good job. But I still can't buy into it. If the draft starts off Garrett and Thomas, then I think the Bears simply choose between Allen (minor injury concern) and Adams (minor position concern). Either one make way more sense than a one-year TE at the #3 pick.
  11. I've been on record numerous times about bad character guys. Yes is my answer as long as they're not Aaron Hernandez character guys. If they can help on the field, yes. If they can be signed to a incentive-heavy contract that allows the Bears to cut their ass when/if things get bad, hell yes. Having said that, is there really room on the roster? Wheaton just got paid money to be a starter. White is a first rounder that will be given every opportunity to prove his worth. Wright was brought in to fill in the gaps, and has good potential. Meredith can't be ignored after his year last year. Bellamy, Braverman, Randle...that fills things out. I don't see how the Bears could go after Floyd right now.
  12. Lattimore would be an atrocious #3 pick. He's injury prone, a one-year hit, and overrated. If Sidney Jones were healthy, Lattimore wouldn't even be the top CB.
  13. I love OL more than anyone on this board, and I don't even think that's a smart pick. There should be a ton of prime talent available in the 2nd round, and Dawkins is more of a late 2nd/early 3rd guy, IMHO. Names that could be there in the second include Ryan Ramczyk and Garett Bolles, both of which are thought of more as OTs and graded much higher than Dawkins. Not to mention the fact that there are a bunch of other great names likely available early 2nd.
  14. That's only because the year before the Bears had a trio of draft busts playing LB (Bostic, Greene, McClellin), and an undrafted FA Christian Jones in the mix. That group was horrible. They didn't grab ILBs in FA because it was such a key position. They grabbed them because the Bears were simply atrocious at the position and forced to make a FA signing or two. You're right about injuries though...and that's why they should look for another Kwit prospect, in the 4th round or later.
  15. I keep seeing mocks and discussion that list OJ Howard as a possible pick. I just can't see it. In fact, it borderline pisses me off. As far as I'm aware, #3 would be the highest drafted TE ever. On top of that, many are saying this is the deepest TE class ever. A top-5 pick on OJ Howard makes so little sense it's baffling. So please, anyone, convince me why it's remotely a smart idea.
  16. Agree. ILB is way down on the list because ILB is a hole-filler in this D. Read play, fill gap, make tackle. Sometimes drop to deep middle and cover the TE. If the NT is doing his job the ILBs don't have to be incredible, just competent tacklers. Those kind of guys are a dime a dozen, 4th and later. It's also where I think college "tackling machines" who lack ideal measurements work really well.
  17. Positions? No. Players? Yuck. Original: 1. Jonathan Allen, DE/DT, Alabama 2. Ahkello Witherspoon, CB, Colorado 3. Carlos Henderson, WR, Louisiana Tech 4. Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland 4. Erik Magnuson, OT, Michigan 5. C.J. Beathard, QB, Iowa The number of players at those positions could have provided a much more favorable draft than the one above. For instance, this draft would get me excited. 1. Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson 2. Zay Jones, WR, East Carolina 3. Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson 4. Daeshon Hall, DE, Texas A&M 4. Rasul Douglas, CB, West Virginia 5. Conor McDermott, OT, UCLA I'd also like this one a lot more than their mock. 1. Jonathan Allen, DE/DT, Alabama 2. Evan Engram, TE, Ole Miss 3. Nathan Peterman, QB, Pittsburgh 4. K.D. Cannon, WR, Baylor 4. Rasul Douglas, CB, West Virginia 5. Chad Wheeler, OT, USC I guess the point I'm making is, their picks are horrible.
  18. It's interesting that until this post, I didn't think of a situation. In my mind, and most reports, Demps is the SS. So I envisioned a situation where Adams is drafted and moved to FS. I never even considered Demps as SS, Adams being drafted as SS, and Demps being moved to FS. That is how much I considered him the locked in SS. I just figured that because Adams is the superstar, he'd be asked to make the move to FS.
  19. I think there is zero doubt Demps is the SS, and the only reason it's not 100% confirmed is because the Bears list everyone as DB on the official site. Is he the best pass defender? I don't know. Could be Coop or Prince. The 6 INTs for Demps last year are definitely not the norm for him. Otherwise he would have done it before. He has shown, however, to be a pretty good tackler in the box, something a SS usually does. Comparing him to the weak FS options on the team is an entirely different issue.
  20. I'd be very happy about this mock, but I don't know Bowser well. I think I'd rather see a 5T DE than an OLB.
  21. Demps is a SS. That's not even something people debate. Here's the Texans depth chart last year. Here's local media regarding his position. Here's where a draft site says the Bears might get Adams even though they have a SS. Here's where he's complimented for being a good line of scrimmage defender. And here's the Chicago Bears depth chart. Here's another. Demps is the SS. A better argument would be whether or not Adams can play FS.
  22. I clicked this and made it through 4 rounds with growing nausea. Clicked on the 5th round and http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2017.php
  23. 1-Garrett 2-Allen 3-Hooker 4-Adams 5-Watson 6-Thomas 7-Robinson 8-Foster 9-Lattimore 10-Williams I don't think the Bears will get past #2 on this board. If so, I think Allen and Hooker may have just enough concern, and that makes Adams a good, albeit not perfect, fit. I hate the idea of a TE in the top ten. Howard is out. I don't like Barrett. Too small for 3-4 DE.
