I don't care if the Colts suck on defense. Howard is the real deal. Strong runner, great vision, good cut-back ability, forward lean, fast enough to get to the second level and exploit a hole for big gain, solid pass-catcher out of the backfield. I really like this kid.

I disagree with the "through no fault of his own" comment. We don't know that. I've broken each ankle, and have had far too numerous ankle sprains - including the high variety - than I care to remember. The fact of the matter is, when you have a lower leg injury, you can do a lot to prevent future injuries. I learned that really late, but once I did, rehab was my best friend. I did tons and tons of little exercises that strengthen those peculiar muscles that help combat ankle sprains and such. To this day I randomly do calf raises and ankle turns whenever standing in line; it's Pavlovian at this point. I'm not saying he neglected to do things like that, but I'd guess he didn't do that stuff very much. Rehabbing to get back from injury is one thing, but rehabbing to do that AND prevent the future injury is a completely different thing.

LOL! I thought the same thing. How weak is this guy? BTW - Not that I could predict injury, but the "freak athlete" guys don't pan out nearly as often as the "really good athlete who does all the little football things right" guys. It's why I wanted Amari Cooper so much more than White. Cooper beat people with skill first, athleticism second. White was all about being faster, jumping higher, etc. And with back-to-back broken legs, he might not be able to rely on that any more.

What I noticed was the offense was what I, and many others here, have called for on too numerous occasions to count. Where in the hell were all the misdirection and rollout plays in the last X years? Why in the hell aren't they utilizing Cutler like that? How many effing times have we asked on this board, "Why aren't they moving the pocket?" Loved the results, but that was extra frustrating. That's the change I want to see with Cutler in there. Account for OL deficiencies by making the opposing D unbalanced. Mix things up.

Funny. I can only hope you learned from all the mistakes made by the Bears over the years.
-
Pass. He's kind of stupid and has a weak-ass arm.
-
Love some Ryan Switzer. He can return for one year, learn from Royal, and take the slot job the following year.

Who's left?! I suggest the Bears make inquiries into the following players: QB - Ronnie "Sunshine" Bass RB - Boobie Miles OC - Manumana WR - Jonathan Tweeter (might have to get a piss test first) DE - Steve Lattimer (ditto) DB - Petey Jones Anyone else?

I thought I read he was UFA. Probably wrong since I don't pay attention to contract stuff. With that said... FA: Riley Reiff or Matt Kalil. Pay accordingly after medical clearances. Draft 1) Myles Garrett - DE - TXA&M - Watched him vs Arkansas. WOW. 2) Chad Kelly - QB - OleMiss 3) Sidney Jones - DB - Wash 4) Evan Engram - TE - OleMiss 4) Budda Baker, S, Wash

Fair enough. Without going deep into things, agree to disagree. But I will say a few quick-hitters: -I don't want an OL drafted in the first round every year. I want the Bears to just keep addressing OL until they get it right for more than one year. And I also think a pro-bowl bookend at LT can't be picked up in FA until it's too late in that LT's career. -Comparing Cutler to the other QBs is unfair, because none of the situations are the same. Similar to that argument is why that article you posted is bogus. Way too much selective comparison without context. -Last but not least, I know you love you some Lovie. That's fine. I think he was an OK HC and a good DC. The thing is, however, he greatly benefited from inheriting one of the best group of players a defensive coach could ever get. He got maybe the most transformative MLB in the history of the NFL, an incredible thumper at FS who fit his system perfectly, a multi-time pro-bowl OLB, and a lockdown CB who could force fumbles like nobody else in NFL history. Then on top of that, he drafted the greatest return man in NFL history. I think without those players he would have been fired after just a few years, because, let's be honest, he didn't have a clue about offense, time management, or how to draft.

Careful. That's blasphemy for some on this board. They'd rather the Bears fight hard and end up right around .500.
-
Well, that last miss to Meredith should convince anyone and everyone that Hoyer is not a good pro QB. That wasn't even close, and Meredith was wide open. Wanting Cutler gone is one thing, but Hoyer is not the guy for the job.

Maybe Jay should have searched out McPhee during the Houston game and publicly yelled at him for not being on the field?

Hey Alaska.... Curious thought here. If you think Cutler sucks so bad, can you answer the following questions? Which years have the Bears had a good OL while Cutler has been in town? What's the max number of OCs you would consider acceptable during Cutler's tenure, before that number started to hinder success? Which years have the Bears had a good D while Cutler has been in town? Which years have the Bears had 2 of the following three good at the same time: OL, D, WRs? I know you don't like him, but you're fooling yourself if you think the results would be any better when, as shown in the link with the play breakdown, there are literally four guys screwing up around Cutler. As I've said many times before, the Bears often present Cutler with a "make the first read and throw it on a 3-step drop or you're going to get sacked, get hit, or have to run." Meanwhile, the upper echelon QBs of the league seemingly have all day to throw, game after game, season after season. You may not like it, but there is a definite correlation.

Did McPhee get into it with Cutler on the sidelines?
jason replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
Yes. Yes. Yes. That's what the Patriots did last night with glowing success. Sure, their D carried the load, but their O was smart with the ball and protected their #3 guy because they had zero behind him. The Bears should absolutely be in some form of max protect on 90% of the downs. -

1000% agreed. It's ridiculous. -
1. Don't want Jimmy G. That's a Patriots trap. They could put Uncle Rico in there and he'd look good. 2. Cutler is a mid-tier QB with whom games can be won. But not when the OL doesn't block, the RBs are questionable, and the defense never causes the other team concern.
-
Cutler can do that, but the problem is he has to do it on 85% of the plays. When the defense expects to get to the QB every other play, there is no real surprise when the QB runs.
-
That's why I said I didn't like the trade.
-
You're right. I wasn't clear. I meant that the team should have been rebuilding for a lot longer than 2 years. The team feels like it should have been rebuilding for several more years, but it's easy to forget the last few Lovie Smith years.
-
The reasoning is that there are many holes on the team, and the Bears, while enjoying Alshon's ability, have a surplus of #1 WRs. That is, of course, if White ends up being who he is supposed to be. Of course, the other part is, rookies are cheaper than Alshon, and he's shown unhappiness in Chicago. IF the Bears are rebuilding, which it appears they just might be doing pretty soon, then more draft picks are better.
-
Watson? No. I think he'll be a huge disappointment, and will cost too high of a draft pick. Kizer? I like him more.
-
I didn't say that. But I don't think it's overreacting to want changes when the people brought in don't do a damn thing with what they have. This team has been rebuilding for a lot longer than two years.
