Good news in my mind, because that means Martellus holds less power after the Bears lock up Miller.
-
If 3.5 per year, the Bears were stupid to make the move. The Bears should have at least tried to negotiate to see if Forte would provide a hometown discount.
-
It's sort of odd, I agree, but the difference is potential. One, we pretty much know. The other, is a soon-to-be rookie who has his entire career in front of him. A career where he won't be the main guy on the team getting double-teamed every play.
-
For the most part I agree. I wouldn't say he was a shut down corner, but he was definitely a good cover corner.
-
I like his length, but dislike his production.
-
That's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overspending for a mid-tier DE who may have upside. Teams can get a "6-8 sack per year"-guy for much, much less.
-
I'm glad we got him because now we won't waste a draft pick on a RB. That's three guys. Sign a fourth guy as an UDFA with potential.
-
And that's more and more reason to trade his ass. A guy like Marty is not worth 6-7M per year. In terms of other TEs he might be, but that's too much for a guy who is a headache, has iffy hands, and doesn't jibe with Cutler perfectly.
-
YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! This is awesome for two reasons: 1) He's pretty damn good. 2) Long is moving back to the position where he kicks ass (like I said he should). The right side is going to give the Bears 5+ YPC. I'd love it if the Bears complimented this concept with a bruising FB.
-
I wish him the best...now that he's not going to the Packers. But if the contract details end up being less than 5M per year, I'll be upset Chicago didn't bring him back.
-
If we do get Trev, then Ragland is the perfect fit at the other spot. Draft him and the LBs are set for several years. Grab Scooby a little later as a guy who can fit inside or outside, and provides a dynamic pass rush from time to time.
-
The reverse-Ditka trade! I think this draft is seriously missing an ILB. Even with Trevathan, the ILB position needs attention.
-
Absolutely don't want to give up a 2nd round pick for a guy who is a slightly above average LB. The Bears would be better just drafting an ILB in the first few rounds to pair up with Trevathan, and pay him the rookie contract.
-
A Seattle friend said it's been discussed in the area, local radio, and on some message boards.
-
Sure. He'd be a decent third back, a rotational guy. He's injury prone, and has pissed me off in fantasy so many ways, but I have always thought he had a nice burst and shiftiness to him.
-
Holy hell. 4 years for nearly 30 MILLION?! That's ridiculous. They waaaaaaaay overpaid. If the Bears can get something even remotely close to what amounts to a 7M per year player, then they should trade Bennett yesterday. He's not worth that much. That's insane. That's $132K per catch. That's $600K per game! And this is for a guy who is a locker room issue, has iffy hands, was completely outperformed by his substitute, and is questionably related to some Cutler INTs. Yeah, trade him ASAP. See if we can get a 2nd or 3rd.

Great move for the Titans. I think Philly is stupid for doing the "get rid of all Chip Kelly's guys"-fire sale.

Currently the Bears have nine picks: 1.11-1250pts 2.41-490 3.72-230 4.103-88 5.138-37 6.167-24.6 6.186-17 6.188-16.2 7.198-12.2 Here's my challenge. Come up with a trade back scenario based on another team's needs that would net the Bears at least 12 picks. The more complicated the better (as long as it's realistic). Then make your mock with those picks. Trade 1: CHI(1.11-1250pts) for STL(2.43-470pts, 2.45-450pts, 3.76-210pts) - STL feels the heat and trades up for their QB of the future but makes the big splash by not giving up their 1st. Trade 2: CHI(2.45-450pts) for PHI(3.77-205, 3.79-195, 6.170-23.4) - The Eagles don't have a second round pick and want to get in on the action. 2.41-490-Bronson Kaufusi, DE, BYU 2.43-470-Jaylon Smith, ILB, ND 3.72-230-Miles Killebrew, SS, S.Utah 3.76-210-Christian Westerman, OG, Arizona St. 3.77-205-Germain Ifedi, OT, TX A&M 3.79-195-Anthony Zettel, DE, Penn. St. 4.103-88-Tyler Matakevich, ILB, Temple 5.138-37-Scooby Wright, OLB, Arizona 6.167-24.6-Eric Murray, CB, Minnesota 6.170-23.4-Tyler Ervin, RB, SJSU 6.186-17-Cardale Jones, QB, OSU 6.188-16.2-Robert Aguayo, K, FSU 7.198-12.2-Dadi Nicolas, OLB, VT Game on! Make your trades and picks!

That was a little difficult to follow. I like the concept of multiple trades down, and love the resulting LB corp, but I don't like the players overall as much. If AJ gets traded, there needs to be a higher focus on WR. Also, with FA coming in a few days, I'm guessing the Bears will certainly get someone. Most likely they bring back Miller. In that case, Hunter Henry wouldn't be a pick I'd like. Without much thought into it, here's how I'd liike that same scenario to play out. 1-11-Myles Jack, ILB, UCLA. I think if he's there he's the likely pick. Leads the Defense on Day 1. 1-20-Robert Nkemdiche, DE, Ole Miss. Ridiculous/athleticism talent. Starts Day 1. 2-61-Jayron Kearse, SS, Clemson. Freak 2.0 starts Day 1. 3-81-Christian Westerman, OG, Arizona St. I think he's got a great chance to be very good in the NFL. 3-93-Kyle Murphy, OT, Stanford. The Bears need help at two OL spots unless addressed in FA. 4-103-Tyler Matakevich, ILB, Temple. I think the Jaylon Smith price will be too high (2nd). This guy is a great playmaker. 4-115-Scooby Wright, OLB, Arizona. Yeah, the combine was not his friend. I'm still a huge fan. 5-131-Kevin Hogan, QB, Stanford. Prospect for the future. 6-167-Eric Murray, CB, Minnesota. I really like this kid. Think he's underrated. 6-186-Tyler Higbee, TE, Western KY. Good size, athleticism, kind of looks like Zach Miller. 6-187-Rashard Robinson, CB, LSU. Risk/reward pick. He's got a very high ceiling. If not for off-field stuff, he's probably a 3rd rounder. 6-189-Robert Aguayo, K, FSU. Game changer. Field position MVP. 7-198-Dadi Nicolas, OLB, VT. Great athleticism and burst. Worth drafting. Could surprise.

That would be an excellent signing.

I think the word "emerged" was where there was confusion. Emerged to me means, "someone who showed an ability to play in the NFL". As far as McCarron goes, I don't think he's a quality back-up. I think he has starter abilities in a game-manager role. Very much so. Don't like that definition of emerge, then look to 2012 and you can see Kirk Cousins. He emerged regardless of the definition. Don't like that one, go to 2011, just one year back, and you'll find Tyrod Taylor, a guy who threw for over 3000 last year in 14 games. Go back a few more years and you can see a 6th rounder and a 7th rounder who both emerged, Derek Anderson & Matt Cassel. Long story short, it pays to keep rolling the dice and trying to find a diamond in the rough at QB.

Look no further than last year and you'll find one that looks pretty promising: AJ McCarron. Coincidentally, several members of the board loved him (e.g. scs, me, lemon, parker). Also... http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?type=position
