FWIW - I didn't even consider that some of you would hint at or straight up mention a QB. That would be a monster surprise.

I was thinking about the nightmare scenario possibility. Could it be possible that all the likely guys are gone? 1. TEN - Jeremy Tunsil - I don't see how he is not the #1 pick. 2. CLE - QB - Who cares who it is. They're picking a QB. 3. SD - Joey Bosa - He's largely thought of as the best guy in the draft. 4. DAL - Jalen Ramsey - They are picking him or Hargreaves. I'm convinced of it. 5. JAX - Myles Jack - They need defense everywhere. Getting a field-general makes sense. 6. BAL - A'Shawn Robinson - Canty is weak, and their LBs are firm. 7. SF - Ronnie Stanley - They just hired Chip Kelly. He's going offense. 8. MIA - Jaylon Smith - The second ILB jumps off the board. 9. TB - Deforest Buckner - Obviously a great pick for them. 10. NYG - Reggie Ragland - They need a MLB. Brinkley sucks. Assuming no trades, all of those picks could happen. The most unlikely one is Miami's at #8. Otherwise, that could happen. Who the hell do the Bears pick at that point? Is it Hargreaves by default? If so, would you be happy with it?

Just ribbing you. I don't like RB in this draft; it's true. If I had my way it would honestly be nothing but OL and D.
-
Same board I used. We can only hope it's accurate and the chips fall like that.
-
Did I say he can't? Or did I say reports are that he's not suited for it?
-
Depth-wise, I don't think you are right about DL > ILB. We are talking about 3-4 DEs, not DTs overall. There are a bunch of good ILBs, and three of them are absolute stud, first rounders.
-
I know it's far-fetched, but suppose the Bears went Notre Dame heavy. 1. Ronnie Stanley, OT 2. Jaylon Smith, ILB 3. 4. Sheldon Day, DT 5. KeiVarae Russell, CB 6. Romeo Okwara, DT 6. Elijah Shumate, SS 6. C.J. Prosise, RB 7. Pick who you want in the 3rd and 7th. What's your result? Would you be happy with the overall draft?

In regards to Smith, I think you're probably right. I do think, however, there is a lot of uncertainty about him and he could go late 1st. As for 5T, there just wasn't anyone there that wasn't a reach. It was odd how the picks happened a few times and players always seemed to go just before my pick. Having said that, I think Anderson could be a steal that late.

11: R1P11 OT RONNIE STANLEY NOTRE DAME 41: R2P10 LB JAYLON SMITH NOTRE DAME 72: R3P9 S JAYRON KEARSE CLEMSON 107: R4P8 G SEBASTIAN TRETOLA ARKANSAS 150: R5P11 CB ERIC MURRAY MINNESOTA 188: R6P10 QB KEVIN HOGAN STANFORD 207: R6P29 DE RYAN ANDERSON ALABAMA 209: R6P31 ROBERTO AGUAYO FLORIDA STATE 228: R7P9 ILB NICK KWIATKOWSKI WEST VIRGINIA Incredible start. Like Murray in the 5th - he's ultra-competitive. Hogan has great backup potential. Anderson could be a huge steal as a rush specialist DE/OLB hybrid. Thoughts?

Wow, I'm surprised by this to be quite honest. 1. Long has been injured the last two years, but before that he was a stud. 2. He's got great size/speed combo for a 3-4 DE. 3. There is no denying his natural genes. 4. Going against his brother increases the likelihood the Bears will be able to resign Kyle without much fuss. 5. Chris was injured against the Packers, which creates a natural enemy for him. 6. He didn't miss a game in his first 6 years. 7. Going against his brother will likely make him fight harder. I honestly don't see much bad in picking him up. The only thing that worries me is the potential price tag.

Yes and yes!

Nearly nobody thinks he's suited for it in the NFL though.

I'm nodding my head at this. I can buy it. Although, I'm not sure the Bears really need three straight rounds of DBs.

Their newest update: 1. Myles Jack, ILB, UCLA 2. Leonard Floyd, OLB, UGA 3. Germain Ifedi, OT, TXA&M 4. Rees Odhiambo, OG, Boise St. 5. Josh Tupou, DE, Colorado 6. Elijah Shumate, SS, ND 6. Kevon Seymour, CB, USC 6. Joel Heath, DE, MSU 7. Nate Sudfeld, QB, Indiana Love the start with Jack, great value. Dislike an OLB, even if he is a prolific pass rusher. Happy with OL focus. Then meh after that for me. I am not in love with any of those names.

No offense, but I hate it because of the first three rounds. 1-Jaylon Smith is injured. He may have a miraculous recovery, but I can't see another 1st rounder who may not play. 2-I like the way Decker looks and plays, but nearly nobody is projecting him at LT, where he played in college. Everyone is putting him at RT or OG. 3-I don't like Rankins for the Bears because he's not a 3-4 DE, a 5T player. He's better suited in a 4-3 scheme. 4-Dislike drafting a RB, but at least you waited on it. 5-Two CBs and only one ILB, that's something I don't like. I'm sure you're factoring in FA moves. I love Killebrew, Howard, and Zettel. Especially Zettel, he's one of those guys who doesn't seem right but just continues to hit it and play hard. He's a guy who fits in and never seems great, but consistently puts in work. A team full of guys like that wins championships.

I got to thinking about the Broncos defense, and I hope the Bears don't overpay for any of the available players. Particularly a safety on that team. Let me explain... Before they picked up the duo of Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware, they were not that special. 2015: 4th Pts, 1st yds, 8th TOs, 1st pass yds, 1st rush yds (Phillips) 2014: 16th Pts, 3rd yds, 14th TOs, 9th pass yds, 2nd rush yds (Del Rio) 2013: 22nd Pts, 19th yds, 16th TOs, 27th pass yds, 7th rush yds (Del Rio) I believe a lot of their supplementary defensive players got a boost when the pass rushing combo of Ware and Miller got together, and a further boost when Wade Phillips took over from Jack Del Rio. Simply put, when you group a combo of dominant pass rushers together, it's minimizes the time the QB has in the pocket, and it lessens the responsibilities of other players in terms of pass defense. Those players get to focus their efforts on rush defense a bit more. The Bears don't have those dominant pass rushers, and I'm not sure how big of an impact either of the Broncos' ILBs or Safeties would make on the Bears.

I readily admit to ignoring the salary cap aspect of the NFL for the most part. But what you've laid out is interesting. It sounds like with Manning's departure they should be able to keep their defense in tact for the most part.
-
A +9.1 from PFF either means this guy is the next Fencik, or he shouldn't even be in the NFL. It's hard to tell.
-
By that logic we should draft a RB in the mid-rounds every year, because, ya know, we might find a stud. The Bears have Langford and Carey. That's 1 & 2. They shouldn't do anything more than find a warm body with potential after that. Sinorice Perry, Jaquizz, the fast kid being discussed in the thread. Spending anything more than a 6th on a RB would be a stupid move.
-
If Bennett wants $7-8M a year, kiss his ass goodbye. No way in hell a TE is worth that much unless they are producing big time numbers.
-
Adam, I agree. We'll have to set a timeline on it though. Maybe start it April 1st?
-
No shocker. Further cements the need for OL.
-
I think we all want a trade down, but picking who to trade down with, what we get in return, etc., is just an impossible task. The less variables the better. Hell, I've seen Jaylon Smith and Robert Nkemdiche available in the second for the Bears. If that happens then this draft is going to be wild.

Yep, still not a fan of moving Goldman to the 5T. Goldman kicked ass as a rookie NT. He needs to stay there and continue to get better at one position. We don't need another Kyle Long situation where the team has a dominating player at one position only to move him to a position in which he's not nearly as dominant.
