  1. You misunderstand. If the 5th round is used for a CB, that means the OG gets bumped and then the OL is not prioritized as two posters have requested (three if you count me, but I'm trying to stay out). Also, Adam called for his DB in this post. If he intended CB, then I lost that in translation.
  2. We are at our first true impasse for this effort. GOOD Stinger - NO:[Nkemdiche RD1] Alaska - YES:[QB Hogan, emphasize D 1st 5 picks], NO:[Prescott RD5] Mongo - YES:[Nkemdiche RD1], NO:[Ragland RD1] dawhizz - YES:[ILB RD1 (Smith > Ragland)] lemon - YES:[Ragland RD1, Prescott mid-RD, late focus TE over K] DBDB - YES:RD2 ILB > DE,NO:[Ragland RD1] IMPASSE scs - YES:[CB before RD 6, ILB RD1, Adolphus Washington RD2, Conklin RD1], NO:[Nkemdiche RD1, Scooby before RD4] Adam - YES:[RD1-RD4 ILB, DB, OL, DL any order], NO:[RB early, injury prone RD1] Ashkum - YES:[OL focus, late focus TE over K, ILB RD1, Adolphus Washington RD2, prioritize SS > CB, OLB w/RD6] AZ54 - YES:[OL huge need, Jarran Reed, Hogan late, ILB in 1st 4 rds], NO:[A'Shawn Robinson RD1, Oakman, Conklin RD1, no DL double up RD1/2] scs wants a CB before RD6. Picking one before, would either cross off Adam's 4RD position request or deprioritize OL, something AZ and ashkum want. So, since AZ and ashkum represent a quorum of sorts, who is willing to budge? scs - Are you adamant about the CB before RD6? Adam - Are you adamant about the first four rounds being ILB, DB, OL, DL (in any order)? Any other comments on this impasse are welcome. We'll decide as a group if scs or Adam are unwilling to budge.

  4. Good point. If Martellus is still with the Bears because he's under contract, then Gould deserves equal consideration for this experiment.
  5. I like the idea. I think it's also how the Giants were successful with their slew of rushers. But who is available? I think Von Miller is the only guy, and he's 150% staying in Denver. Do you think the Bears' current OLBs can be guys that get the job done if the DEs are actually good players? I think it would help quite a bit if the OLBs knew the DEs were going to uphold their end of the bargain.
  6. Overall I like it, but I'm not a fan of Cash in the 2nd round. Feels like a pretty big reach to me. If he is looking for a S hybrid with range, wing-span, and crazy athleticism, I'd rather have seen Jayron Kearse in that spot.
  7. I didn't include the "no trade" stipulation in the rules at first, but I should have. The variables of trades makes an already difficult endeavor truly impossible. The same goes for FA consideration. Obviously both impact the draft, and the latter is guaranteed with all the cap space the Bears have, but it just makes this pointless. For the purposes of this exercise, assume Martellus Bennett is still with the Bears in 2016, and Zach Miller is not. I just can't see any way the Bears pay him what he wants. Do you believe a TE is more important than any of the positions listed? The players listed?

Silverberry Mouhon, OLB, Cincy 7. Roberto Aguayo, K, FSU DBDB's insistence on ILB prioritization threw me for a bit of a loop, and took Adolphus off the board in RD2. We all agree that ILB is a major need. With Cravens, there is a guy who has all the tools & athleticism necessary to be a dynamite ILB who can cover passing lanes. The Bears have recent success with S-to-ILB transitions. Going in RD4, Bronson Kaufusi is considered by many as a 4-3 DE, but with his strength, athleticism, and freakish size he'd fit just fine as a 3-4 DE. BTW - I'm starting to really, really like this draft. It's filled with a ton of explosive athletes. Major objections?
  9. We were not able to come to an agreement last year. I blame myself because I didn't lay out guidelines for the idea, and it turned into a "submit your own mock" thread where it was impossible for everyone to track each other's likes, dislikes, and stipulations.

Developmental OLB in the later rounds. FWIW - I know Murphy played OT, but I think he'll be asked to move inside (so does Rob Rang). Also, I don't think Aguayo lasts until the 7th, but it's difficult to ascertain since there are multiple mocks that don't even list him. For argument's sake, he is there in the 7th for the Bears to snag. Finally, I really like the accolades, comparisons, and description of this kid Killebrew. He's described here as a "tightly bundled muscle hammer", and he'll probably move up quite a bit on the draft boards as the days approach. Objections?

  13. Good question. If you have no things you dislike about the mock, or I should say no major objections, then you're confirming the entire draft. Otherwise you should have a position you feel has been neglected, or a problem with a specific player in the mock.
  14. Last year I tried a mock where everyone agreed. Likes/Dislikes were laid out until we got something everyone could accept. It may not have been everyone's ideal draft, but it was something we'd all be happy with. I'd like to try that again. The Rules: -Please don't post your own mock. I've gone through a bunch of mocks on this board already, ones posted by multiple members, and looked at what was said. Major themes. Adamant comments. So this has comments, likes, dislikes, and other info from other posts. -I'll post the mock based on the aforementioned comments. -Comment on what you like or dislike from the mock, and I'll update your restrictions as well as the draft. Hopefully we can come to an agreement. scs - YES:[iLB RD1, Adolphus Washington RD2, Conklin RD1, Scooby RD3 at best], NO:[Nkemdiche RD1] Stinger - NO:[Nkemdiche RD1] Ashkum - YES:[OL focus, ILB RD1, Adolphus Washington RD2] Alaska - YES:[QB, Hogan] AZ54 - YES:[OL huge need, Jarran Reed, Hogan late, ILB in 1st 4 rds], NO:[A'Shawn Robinson RD1, Oakman, Conklin RD1, no DL double up RD1/2] Adam - YES:[RD1-RD4 ILB, DB, OL, DL any order], NO:[RB early] Mongo - YES:[Nkemdiche RD1] dawhizz - YES:[iLB RD1 (Ragland, Smith)] lemon - YES:[Ragland RD1, Prescott mid-RD] MOCK DRAFT VER 1.0 1. Rashard Robinson, CB, LSU 6. Roberto Aguayo, K, FSU 7. Nick Kwiatkoski, ILB, WVU OK. That's the draft. What are your comments? Which players do you dislike? Which positions are overvalued/undervalued/missed?
  15. Oh, you don't have to sell me there. I absolutely did not want White. I disliked that pick quite a bit.
  16. First item: That's why I keep leaning toward the idea of this draft just being a defensive gift to Vic Fangio. Draft D the first 3-4 rounds. Load up. Second item: Let's hope it was a bunch, because the Denver D has some really good talent.
  17. Bingo. Wade Phillips was able to make the defense just that much better. And this is the second year Von Miller and Demarcus Ware were together, so they had a little bit better connection. Add in small/big improvements from multiple other players on defense, and you have a SB champ.
  18. I was cheering for the Broncos because I like defense and dislike Scam Newton (Auburn).
  19. I have thought of the same thing. Suppose Fox just says, "I want my guys. I don't want any previous regime guys if they're going to complain at all." That could mean franchise+trade Alshon, because he figures the Bears could replace him with White, and the passing game will improve if the other WRs like Royal are healthy. That could also mean a trade of Bennet, who probably wouldn't fetch that much in the open market, but could yield a pretty good amount at draft time.
  20. I watched him a few times and thought he faced a ton of opposition attention. He got double-teams, and they went away from him. And Ole Miss was basically playing against the NFL minor league on a daily basis. I figure if he's supported by legit talent he will be able to display his elite athleticism. On top of that, I think the defense needs an infusion of athleticism in general. Adding a guy like Nkemdiche who has very quick twitch reactions would help the defense on the whole. Last but not least, probably most importantly, I think he's a perfect 5T for a 3-4. His frame, long arms, lateral quickness, ability to control blockers without being controlled, and sure tackling is exactly what is needed in a 3-4 DE. His job isn't to be a 20 sack per year guy. His job is to be scary enough that the OL has to focus on him, which allows the OLBs to wreak havoc. He's one of those glue guys who doesn't get noticed enough for being so dangerous the offense has to gameplan for him.
  21. In that case, no. The Bears aren't there, even with a stud on D. But, then again, there are only 4-5 teams each year that are contenders. Others are pretenders who get thumped in the playoffs. As for your last paragraph, you know I'm fine with the philosophy behind taking a few steps back to take a giant leap forward. I just don't think picking a QB in the first is the correct path for the current Bears. I believe they are small moves away from playoff hunt, and one or two player personnel breaks from contention. And that's with Cutler. Imagine if just the following happens: 1. WRs stay healthy, Alshon continues to dominate, Kevin White shows why he is a monster and 1st round worthy, Royal is a consistent slot threat. 2. Bennett and/or Miller provide a consistent threat over the middle 3. Long improves or moves back to OG, Leno takes a step forward, and the Bears solidify the group with a FA and/or Draft Pick If JUST that happens, the Bears offense takes a momentous leap forward. Cutler, who went for 3600+/21TDs/11INTs likely increases yards, TDs, and the INTs will be similar because not only does the system stays the same for a change, but the talent will spread the opposing defenses more. That would take Chicago from 21st in total O to somewhere close to top 10, and it's not that big of a stretch since it's just a matter of healthy WRs and a slightly improved OL. And that's just offense! If the Bears hit on a 1st round defensive stud, maybe hit on another defensive pick later, that would be all it would take to put Chicago into contention.

    30 for 30

I enjoyed it, but not as much as I was hoping. I thought Mongo stole the show. I had never heard the story about Butthead telling his wife they had to reschedule the wedding. That was funny. Overall, however, I didn't like the sentimental, if not sad nature of the entire thing. I thought they spent a lot of time on CTE, an ailing Buddy Ryan, McMahon's injuries, and glossed over far too much. Adding in information about the multiple years in the future also sucked because that was time that could have been spent enjoying the 85 season and its dominance. If they were going to spend that much time on the future, especially of McMahon, then they should have showed how he wore the Bears jersey to the White House as a member of the packers. I wish more people had been involved. I would love to have heard if Wilbur Marshall thought the FA move was good. Or whether he did it purely because of Buddy Ryan's departure. I wish they would have talked to Willie Gault about things; he always seemed sort of an odd fit in that group. And Matt Suhey got far too little screen time. He should have dominated the screen during the portion about Sweetness. One of the things that I was really disappointed with was how quickly they glossed over the supernatural nature of the Bears' playoff run. The wind blowing the Giants punt away made it feel like it was supposed to be. Barely mentioned. Then when the snow started in the Rams game, people were cheering for the snow. We all knew it was destiny for the Bears to make it to the Super Bowl. That was also somewhat ignored. Just mentioned that it was snowing. The thing I hated the most was the Dolphin game. I don't even think they mentioned that McMahon played a fraction of the game. And that, aside from that fluke-ass ricochet to Clayton for the TD, the Bears figured out the Dolphins in the second half and shut them down. With a healthy McMahon, the Bears win that game. Overall, I liked it, but I felt it missed a lot and told the story without details and in the wrong way at times.
  23. FWIW, if the draft played out this way, I would just say, "Screw it. Fangio, here are your guys. Do your magic. If you're as good as everyone says, this is going to build your resume and lead to an eventual head coaching job." 1. DeForest Buckner, 34DE, Oregon - Perfect fit for Fangio's 34 2. Jarran Reed, 34DE, Alabama - See Buckner 3. Noah Spence, 34OLB, EKU - Great, explosive edge rusher 4. Tyler Matakevich, ILB, Temple - Great tackler 5. Tyler Johnstone, OT, Oregon - Fills a need, learns from Long 6. Dak Prescott, QB, Miss. St. - Great talent this late in the draft 7. Roberto Aguayo, K, FSU - Points and field position
  24. Here is the link. The picks: 1. Robert Nkemdiche, 34DE, Ole Miss 2. Shon Coleman, OT, Auburn 3. Noah Spence, 34OLB, EKU 4. Tyler Matakevich, ILB, Temple 5. Jarron Jones, 34DT, ND 6. Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama 6. Jordan Lucas, SS, Penn St 6. Nila Kasitati, OG, Oklahoma 7. Keyarris Garrett, WR, Tulsa Honestly, I can't complain much. I would have done it a bit different given the breakdown of where players went, but to start with an ultra athletic DE in Nkemdiche, steal Spence in the 3rd (seems unrealistic), and pick up Matakevich in the 4th, that's tough to beat. I like OT in the second, but I'm not a big fan of Shon Coleman's ability. The Auburn blocking this year was wretched. Comments on this one?
  25. This is pretty much my answer. With a few breaks, White playing like a first round WR, Alshon or any other WR being healthy, and one defensive stud to make a few big plays each game, this team is absolutely in the playoff hunt. That's why I have floated the idea of just letting Fangio have a defense-heavy draft.
