  1. I'm liking what I'm seeing as this coaching staff is coming together. I admit being worried about the sheer number of people interviewed and many on that list being awful options that George was going to again tie Poles hand and we'd not get a highly touted prospect like Johnson and end up with someone I'd have to convince myself to be ok with. Johnson is a first time Head Coach but he's coming from a winning culture and knows what a real NFL offense looks like. He does not seem to suffer from the "smartest guy in the room syndrome" We've had way too much of that. He strikes me as a guy who sets the bar high and expects a lot out of his players and pushes them. Now again, this is all on paper and till we see it on the field we won't know. What I'm looking for is not just how things go this coming season but can we have sustained success. Remember Nagy came in in 2018 and the team took a leap and we thought the future looked bright, but we know how that turned out. Johnson is inheriting a lot of talent on this roster that's been miss managed so I could see a vast improvement in year one. It's year two and beyond that will tell if he is the right man for the job. Love the Allen hire as DC as well. The key as others have pointed to is that the OL and DL coaches will be critical. Especially the OL. We have got to fix the OL or we're not going to go anywhere. We need better coaching, and better talent. IMO Poles has to get this right this offseason between the draft and FA. We cannot keep doing the patchwork plan it hasn't worked and it will not work. If Caleb has any chance to see his full potential here this has to get fixed or at least greatly improved.
  2. It really is sad. A prevailing thought I had this season before I quit watching the games was that there is far too much talent on this roster to be this bad. That is both on the players for not playing up to their potential but a lot of it is on coaches for not being able to get the most out of their players. The Bears always like to talk about how good the culture is but in reality the culture seems ok with mediocrity and losing. I see a highly talented team playing very undisciplined football which tells me there has been no real accountability or setting a high expected standard. At this point I firmly believe that George can't help himself when it comes to meddling. The only reason Eberflus's name should come up in a post season presser is to note that he was fired because he was bad at his job. For once can this franchise be honest and call a spade a spade and not try to sugar coat it like their fan base is just a bunch of homers that will believe whatever they are told? Dude should have been fired last offseason. We always do things so backwards here. Last offseason would have been a perfect time to reset the coaching staff. Now Caleb will go into year 2 after a disastrously chaotic year one. He will have a new HC, new OC, QB coach etc. He'll be back to square one. As a longtime fan I have diminishing faith we'll ever get that right baring dumb luck. The Bears could write the definitive book on "How to ruin or kill your QB." Caleb's success going forward will depend highly on who the coaches will be and how resilient he is as a player and if he can put this past year behind him.
  3. Just leave Flus in Detroit. Every week we find a new dumb way to lose. The moment we took a sack with 20 or so seconds on the clock you call the time out. Regroup and call a play to get a closer for a FG. Pint is we had the ball in field goal range down by 3 with time on the clock to try to win it in regulation. Not only do we play ourselves out of that possibility, we screw up so bad that the clock hits 0 with a time out in our pocket. At the very least we should have been able to force overtime. We are the laughing stock of the nfl.
  4. Well one thing for sure you can start whatever D/ST is playing the Bears.
  5. No point watching any more of this…. my blood pressure needs to go down. Last week was one game. This is a pattern.
  6. The Cheifs also have the zebras on their side.
  7. It was clear from the start that Washington came into the game with intensity and the Bears came in flat and sluggish. It took more than 3 quarters of play to wake up. There is plenty of blame to throw around. The only thing that kept us in the game was our red zone D. And some key stops late to give us a chance. Play calling was bad through and reared it’s ugly head at the least opportune times especial with that goal line trick play in a potentially game deciding play. What made that play wise was had the defender not been touched no one chased the play down. Watching a group of slow defensive players jog to the end zone is embarrassing. We need to figure out a way to start faster it’s like we always start slow. We could have gone into halftime down 21-0. We struggled to overcome a 12 point deficit. We nearly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. it’s one game but this should serve as a learning opportunity. You don’t get to face the jags every week. We have to play better from top down if want to compete in our division and conference. I guarantee the Lions, Packers, and Vikings will put up a fight. We will have to be able to elevate our game when things get tough. That’s what winners do.
  8. Helps whe the refs allow defenders to get held and tackled in the backfield either way we did not deserve to win this game
  9. Game on the line and you run a play at the goal line that has 0% chance of success.
  10. Need some more quick hitting plays and screens to slow down that rush. They have been in Caleb’s face from the get go. Caleb has been off when he’s had open guys.
  11. What a rough game. Only positive is our goal line d holding Washington to FGs. Otherwise their offense is doing whatever they want. While our offense can’t get its head out of its arse. We’re lucky to be down by 9 and could be up 21-0 at the half.
  12. When you upgrade everywhere but the OL this is what happens. Dumb dead ball fouls, horrible pass blocking and run blocking. Play calling was supposed to be better this year with Getsy gone but not impressed in the least by Waldron thus far. 1st and goal inside the 10 and we run, run, run, then try to get cute. We gave up a sure 3, and didn't even allow Caleb to throw there once... Caleb needs to step up and settle down too. His deep ball accuracy has not been great aside from the one deep throw to Rome, which he then followed up with an INT. Not even sure where to start to fix this. It's been a disappointing start. If you would have told me that Williams first TD pass would come in the 3rd Quarter of the third game of the season I would have called you a liar. But here we are with an offense that invested heavily in the skill positions and we may have a more anemic offense than we had last year.
  13. Isn't Bill Murray a bit old to be playing football 🤪
  14. Another thing to consider is the Bears and Bengals had joint practice. So the Bengals D had live practice reps vs just film of the bills game on Caleb. He definitely seems to be pressing it early. Kudos to Flus for keeping him in there to allow him to work through it and settle in. It turns out he ended on a high note which should help for the confidence factor and teaching him patience. He'll find that balance, he's already showed a lot more "Pro Ready" attributes than we've seen from a Bears rookie QB. We very well could finally have gotten the QB position right! Do we think he'll play at all this coming weekend?
  15. On a side note what time and channel(s) will the HOF Ceremony be aired? Seeing Hester, Peppers, and Mongo inducted would be worth watching. Still annoyed that they took too many years to to put Mongo in. It's sad that in his current state he's not able fully celebrate being inducted. He deserves better.
  16. I think you're right, and it's more about the spectacle of it than a holdout, or some sort of disagreement. Can't wait to see training camp start and the season to start and we start to see what this revamped Bears offense looks like when it's no longer just on paper.
  17. Thing is we don't know what's going on behind closed doors at the negotiating table. We have speculation, educated guesses, and comparisons but we really don't know. We do know that Poles was all in on CW, and we've seen draft day and post draft day that CW by all appearances is all in on Chicago and has bought in. As a fan I'd really like to see these deals get done. There is still time to get it done, it is hard to stay patient and trust that it will even though deep down I believe it will get done. and we'll be fine.
  18. At the end of the day when the real competition starts this will all be good for Caleb. When he had is first rough day throwing lots of picks in 7 on 7. It was all over social media about how he got benched for Tyson, and the comments full of so called fans calling him a bust and patting themselves on the back for calling it. Sorry but if you're a fan you want your team to succeed, not rooting for opportunities to say "I told you so". People love to feed into the narrative of the Bears past issues with finding a franchise QB. I find it sad that so many out there are just hoping he fails, whether it be they wanted to keep Fields, are just haters of the Bears, or Caleb, or whatever. This was in May, it's now the first week of June. We're not even at training camp yet let alone week 1. He's going to have his ups and downs and a learning curve. I'd rather him take his lumps now and learn from them in prep for the upcoming season. Part of what makes this situation so ideal for a 1st overall QB selection beyond the weapons around him on offense, but he also gets to practice against one of the better D's in the league and a very talented secondary. I'd rather he go up against some the best in the league week in and week out in practice if it makes game day that much easier and makes him that much more prepared. As for Hard Knocks I'd rather it not be a potential distraction, but, in reality Hard Knocks isn't what it used to be, and neither are players in today's league. They all used to cameras, being filmed, etc. Caleb is no stranger to media attention as it was clear most of his college career that he'd likely be a high 1st round pick whenever he came out, if not the top QB prospect in the draft he'd be in. With or without Hard Knocks it'd be naive to think the Bears wouldn't be in the media coverage more heavily this season because of this past offseason and draft including Williams, Odunze, etc. The added spotlight this Bears team will have surrounding it this season is something they'll have to learn to deal with it and handle it. Hard Knocks is only part of that added spotlight. The other aspect about it is the Bears have editorial control over what makes it on air.
  19. 11-12 wins is realistic in my opinion. As others have pointed out last year we lost at least 3 games where we should have won. Our offense should be much improved, our ST should be much improved, and our D should be helped by both of the other phases playing better complimentary football. Look what our D did last year with an often inept offense, and poor special teams. We should have a much more solid well rounded team, so why shouldn't we think we can win 11-12 games and be in the playoff picture and possibly even playing for the Division. Not expecting us to win the North because it's shaping up to become one of the better Divisions in the NFL. Meaningful Bears football in December is my hope.

    Gill gone

the jokes write themselves lol When the pick was first made and in context at the time being the last pick in our draft I wasn't big on it. Then we trade back into the 5th for Booker, I felt better about this pick, and I'm sure that if we'd have flip those picks around and taken Booker in the 4th and Tory in the 5th. I think less would have been made of it. Now looking at the pick I do like it. Field position is where the hidden yards are. With Gill we'd go three and out and then give the opponent great field position because Gill outright sucked. That put our D in a bad spot. Our offense should be much improved and will be vastly better than what Tory played with at Iowa. Kid won't know what to do with himself lol.
  21. The only thing that has been able to wipe the smile off my face today is work related shenanigans and stress. What a good time to be a Bears fan! This somehow doesn't even seem real! We all knew #1 was a formality and Williams was going to be our new QB, and that our draft really started at #9. most of the top 8 picks were predictable. Chargers was one of my wild cards, because they no longer have Kenan Allen (thank you Poles) or Mike Williams I had a feeling it'd be either WR or OL. I would have liked Alt here but turns out we'd have had to come up too far for him. The pick that ultimately sealed it and made it possible to take Rome at 9 was Atlanta taking Penix... Thank you Atlanta for being dumb. Once that happened I'm sure Poles couldn't wait to send the card in! Some random thoughts on the Bears first round. Poles didn't get cute or try to be the smartest man in the room. He made the logical choice. We've all grown tired of anticipating our pick and seeing talent fall to us, only to see our GM reach for someone leaving us fans scratching our head while we watch the guys we want get snatched up by the teams after our pick. He also stood pat at #9. I wasn't sure what we'd see if he'd move down, because there were definitely going to be good options at #9. I wasn't sure if we'd move up a few spots to take a guy like Alt, or Latham. I was surprised at how few trades took place in the first especially in the top half of the 1st. A lot of teams were patient and stood pat. Even the trade up for the Vikings was only one spot to ensure they got McCarthy. I would have absolutely laughed my butt off if the Jets had stuck with the #10 pick and took McCarthy just to burn Rodger's arrogant ars. LOL. The Raiders actually made a smart 1st round pick, who'da thunk that would ever happen lol. Guess the blind squirrel does find a nut once in a while. Though Bowers may have to learn to throw the ball to himself. 6QB's going in the top 12 is insane, and the Colts were the first team at 15 to take a defensive player. There were a few head scratcher picks made and it wasn't the Bears making one of those picks. Daniel Jones is probably breathing sigh of relief. LOL at least after round 1 Overall it's crazy to look at the current roster compared to when Poles took over and how he's changed and constructed this team, and we still have 6 more rounds of the draft and post draft UDFA and FA before camps start. Is it August yet??? This is shaping up to be a franchise altering offseason. There is an absurd amount of talent and weapons around Williams to start his career. In Poles we finally have a GM constructing a roster for the modern NFL, not a meatball GM living in the past or catering to that mentality. Let's go! Bear Down!!!
  22. Honestly, I think this is the right thing to do. If they were to come down with a judgment less than a week before the draft involving picks, would punish the Falcons and Eagles, but, the ripple effect on the rest of the league's draft boards would be unfair to the rest of the league. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't involve draft picks in next year's draft and/or other consequences for the upcoming season.
  23. This last week or so it's been hard to contain my excitement. I don't remember being this stoked for an NFL draft in a long time. I was originally in the keep Justin camp for multiple reasons. I will always have high respect for Justin, I wish him well, and believe that in the right system he can excel. After the trade I felt like a huge weight was lifted because now we knew 100% we were going to draft a QB. Part of me was bummed about the trade, but the greater part of me was glad that situation was resolved and we could move on. I've since embraced the true rarity of the situation we find ourselves in. #1 overall pick in a draft where the is a clear consensus #1 QB in the draft, we also have a 2nd top 10 pick, and we have the offensive roster to provide a unique ideal landing spot for a QB touted as highly as Caleb is. This draft represents the potential to be a franchise altering draft. For us long suffering Bears fans this could be the first step towards the Bears not only returning to glory, but having sustained success like we haven't seen since the 80's and hopefully do what those teams failed to do and win multiple super bowls.
