  1. Didn’t catch what we gave up.  But hat said once  he and Jones started dropping and kept dropping I had a feeling we might move up. I’m good with this we only needed to move up 9 spots to get a top 5 QB at 11. A little surprised the 49ers took Lance at #3. But also relieved knowing that Pace trading up for Lance wasn’t going to happen. Stark contrast to trading up for Mitch who started only 13 games Against low quality competition.

Would make the draft weekend at least somewhat of a success no matter who the Bears pick.  But no. way they would him trade to an NFC team.  Especially the Niners.  Only to have him kick their asses the next few years in the playoffs.

But is GB a playoff team sans Rodgers?

  3. There’s som packer fans on YouTube reacting. It makes me want to grab some popcorn.  It would be therapeutic if Rodgers did leave and Love would suck, and they would be in QB hell for a decade or two. They’ve been super lucky to have back to back HOF QBs.  It’s made their fan base smug.

    It's certainly a crazy rumor.

I read on one site it was a completely false rumor and they discounted the rumor.

Yet I read on another San Francisco has inquired about the price to obtain Rodgers.

Interesting. I'd love to see Rodgers out of GB which means, (Murphy's Law) he'll retire a packer after 5 more MVP performances.

Lol wouldn’t that be our luck. Maybe we should root for it to be false. A little reverse psychology of sorts.  Schefter is usually accurate. Packer nation would lose its collective mind.

  5. I'm seeing breaking news reports that Aaron Rodgers is possibly wanting GB to trade him.  Things have been slowly devolving there concerning his contract past the 2021 season.  How crazy is this.  Per Adam Schefter that Rodgers is so disgruntled that he has told some members of the organization that he does not want to return to the team.  Curious what it would take.  Wouldn't the Packers have to take a huge cap hit to trade him?  I know his guaranteed money is all paid out after 2021 and they could even cut him (not that they would) next year with no hit.

Holy crap what timing for that story to come out as the 2021 draft starts tonight.

  6. I'm seeing mocks and even on the score this morning they were speculating on us trading up and taking Lance.   That scares me and reminds me too much of trading up for another "top rated rookie QB" with very little playing experience.  Sound familiar?  He only started 3 more games than Mitch, and would likely take more draft capitol to move up high enough to take him.  I feel like Lance will be over-drafted for his limited sample size.     If we're going to trade up I'd rather do so for Jones or maybe Fields otherwise I'd much rather us stay put, or move down a little and take a guy like Mond then add OT, CB, WR.   I'm liking Mond more and more as a late 1st round option.  If we're able to trade down and still get Mond we possibly pick up an extra 2nd or early 3rd, and grab OT, WR, CB,  then add depth in rounds 4-7.   WR is deep this draft so maybe OT, CB, then WR?

If I were Pace, I would do my due diligence to see what it would take to move up far enough to get one of the top 5 guys (sans Lance), if the deal isn't too detrimental to the teams future then I'd consider it.   I would also consider staying at 20 or trading down at most to 25/26 to pick up more picks to address more needs in the first 3 rounds.  If I remember right the Packers took Love with the 26th pick last year?   Getting a top tier QB won't help much if he doesn't have weapons or a OL than can protect him.  I'd also listen to trade offers that involve players at our need positions as well.

The fact is that of the top 5 QBs in this class you know that 2-3 likely pan out the others will either bust or be average at best on the NFL stage.  I feel like some of the 2nd, or 3rd round guys have potential to surprise some people and be very serviceable starters.   The biggest plus of taking a 1st round QB is the 5th year option, but it shouldn't be a reason to mortgage the future or reach on a guy.  If you draft a QB and he pans out and is clear you hit on a good one, it's quite likely you extend them before year 5 anyway.  Especially for teams in our position who are looking for a QB that can start sometime this year or possibly start in year 2 (if Dalton starts the whole season).   If we were a team with an established QB with good years left, like Green Bay, that 5th year is more valuable as it gives you more time to evaluate and potentially transition him into a starting role to take over.

  7. Heard about it this morning on NFL's XM station.  They did say that the hope is he grows out of it as he has family members who also dealt with it and have grown out of it.  I'm not familiar with Epilepsy personally either myself or family, but it's no doubt a serious thing.  Props to Fields for being open about it prior to the draft.  I know it's was not an easy thing to reveal especially as you said it's never publicly been revealed so he's managed it and stayed on top of it.  It takes discipline for sure but the kid has performed at a high level with this medical issue.  His being open about it will help NFL teams decide and prepare whoever  drafts him but will also stand as an encouragement to young athletes around the country that something like this shouldn't stand in the way of their dreams of being a pro athlete.

I would rather do that unless one of the QBs falls. Otherwise, get to the back of the first and pick up an extra mid-round pick.

This place s what I’d like to see happen.  But I fear Pace will be willing to give up a King’s ransom to move up. Teams future be dammed. He is in “save my job” mode and I fear he will be far too short sighted.

  9. What makes teams respect the speed and the deep ball is you have to connect when it’s there. We’ve had speed but no one feared the likes of Glennon, Mitch, or Foles actually placing the ball anywhere near a receiver and even when they did your receiver would drop it.

To make the deep game work means having an o-line that can hold their blocks long enough for the routes to develop.

I absolutely agree. If they choose well, or stumble into a good pick, that will be great. If they miss again, we will be hamstrung by their decision for several years.

I dont understand why we dont have a new GM making that decision.

That said, hitting on a good QB in the first 15 picks is 50/50, so Pace could accidentally pick an amazing QB just as easily as a bad one, so maybe it's OK. but he does not provide any competitive edge, and of course that is the only thing a GM is supposed to do.

In general it's a 50/50 shot but given Pace's poor ability to evaluate QBs, I'd say the odds of him missing are greater than him actually hitting.  Sadly I think they will try to make a swing at it.  If he does here's to the blind squirrel finding a nut.

I just watched an interview with their GM.  He basically said they want a QB with a fresh start.  Said they owed it to Sam to get a deal done because he never had a truly fair shot.

Was this the Jets GM or Carolina's?   Whoever said it brings up the good point to ask the question what chance did Darnold, have to succeed in the black hole that is the Jets?  Really what chance does a new #2 draft pick have.  Hard to evaluate a QB in the mess they have there.  I can see this as the Jets doing Darnold a solid in freeing him from NY, on some level I get wanting to start fresh with the new staff and a new #2 pick QB.  But your putting a lot of pressure on that rookie when your only other QBs are no-names.

I pray he lights it up, but has he really ever?  Not a fan.

There is still hope for my plan of building the fronts and getting the cap in shape, then get our QB next year.  Knowing theses putz's, they'll move up in the draft to draft a QB with no line to protect him.

I’m with you, build the rest of the roster particularly the lines. Let the throw away season play out as the dumpster fire it likely will be. Clean house and let someone not name Ryan Pace pick our next QB in the 2022 draft.

  13. Liked him and sad to see him go as he was a great teammate and was outspoken in trying to convince player to consider signing with the team.   On the bright side he won't be coming in to run the ball or catch a 2 yard pass on third and long.  He will be greatly missed as a returner he was always dangerous.

  14. They keep touting that we made the playoffs 2 of the last 3 seasons.  But had the NFL not added a 7th playoff spot for each conference this past season, we would have miss the playoffs 2 out of those same three seasons.  They act like beating crappy teams after dropping 6 straight this year is a positive, as they acted like we responded well after a similar losing skid last year.  When Nagy has the gall to say in the press conference that coaching is a strength of this team.  They are not living in reality, sadly, for us fans it means looking towards a wasted season.

I dont mind us trading future #1s to get a franchise QB in the draft, but I definitely wonder if I want these guys to be the ones to make that decision, especially when they are likely to be gone.

This is a conflict of interest that McCaskey should have avoided by firing them. The only thing that makes sense is to tell these guys they cant trade future picks, and do whatever they think they have to to save their jobs, but no future picks and no long term deals with big guaranteed money on free agents. If thats the case, then it's McCaskey saying "It's your mess, you live with it for a year and then youre gone" and that makes more sense, but still wastes a year.

He really should have fired them. He needs to be fired.

This is exactly why they should have cleaned house.  You have Pace and Nagy who will be more motivated to mortgage the future for the present in hopes to save their jobs than look at what's best for the Bears long term.  Their perspective is extremely short term and focused on this coming season only.  I can see Pace swinging for the fences and screwing the team further for years to come in a vein effort to save his and Nagy's jobs.  If the Ownerships' intent was to let them stay knowing full well they will likely fire them next year, then their perspective is severely limited too.  Ownership needs to do what's best for the team long term.  If your intent is to fire Pace/Nagy after 2021.  Why keep them knowing the moves they make could do damage to the teams future leaving the next GM and HC to clean up an even bigger mess than we have now.

I don't think there is a dream scenario we can look forward to.  No Derek Carr, no Watson.  Maybe after a year in the system,  better OL, more of a commitment to the running game,  Foles has a better chance to succeed.  Maybe defense plays better.

Sadly this is where we are.  We are down to looking at making the best of a bad situation no one we can bring in will make anyone excited.  At least without mortgaging the present and future to surround this new found star QB (ie Watson) with garbage, thus nullifying any positives said QB could bring.  At this point Foles will be day one starter, along with some other vet, and possibly a rookie.   But if we don't address and fix the OL this team will go no where anyway.  I do feel like with an average to above average line or better you'd be surprised how much better Foles or any QB would look along with making our run game better.  SB was a perfect example of this, the great Mahomes was humbled as he was running for his life all game, and the prolific KC offense failed to find the end zone in 60 min of football.  OL is the great equalizer of football as goes the OL so goes the offense.  Till we fix that there won't be any consistency.

Nagy is better than average as a HC.  His fatal flaw is his fetish for controlling the offense.  If he hands the reigns over, we will be much better for it.  And yes, he can get us to the next level, but he'll need greater discipline.

There in-lies the problem.  While Nagy can be a better than average HC, as he does seem to be able to motivate his players, and his players like playing for him.  He seems to lack the self awareness that he just isn't good at offensive play calling.  He just isn't.  While I'm all for people not giving up and getting back up and keep trying, but at some point you have to be honest with yourself and realize something's not in your wheelhouse.  Especially when being stubborn is detrimental to others around you.  In Naggy's case his unwillingness to admit this and delegate and resist the urge to control that aspect of the game, is detrimental to the team and his ability to become a better HC.

  18. At this point in his career he's more of a situational player than an every down kind of player.  If we can get him without spending too much, and are able to maximize his time in the rotation I'd be for it.  I just don't want to see us pay him for his past production when he's clearly not the same player he was in his prime.  Doesn't mean he can't be effective if used correctly.  I'm not a huge fan of bringing in guys at the tail end of their career which often doesn't live up to expectations.
