Colt Brennan is a sub-par Grossman, at best. Did anyone watch the game? He looked out of his league...as did Flacco...

LOL! I hate that earring I wouldn't be surprised if Hub's right, though. He's usually right on with his draft forecasts, and I have to like that he's a Michigan alum...besides, wouldn't it be just like JA to draft D in Rd. 1...he doesn't know anything else. I also heard that Sam Baker looked pretty bad. My top 3 OTs are : Long, Otah, Williams. I've heard great things about Williams, and he went to Vanderbilt, so you know he's intelligent. From FoxSports.com...

To add to that, so much happens between mock 1 and mock 8...free agency, the combine, etc. Wouldn't the draft be so much more interesting if teams had to pick their 1st today, without all the research and dissection?

A name you will hearing more and more as the draft approaches is Josh Johnson out of SDSU. Ole' #4 Jim Harbaugh recruited him...

I watched an awful (pun intended) lot of AZ games b/c living in Mich, I have to go to the bar with Sunday ticket to watch da Bears, and I also had Boldin and Fitz on my fantasy teams. When both those guys were out, Johnson had an opportunity, and did nothing. I don't watch to be the Negative Nelly here, but I know what I saw. This team needs a guy who is willing to step up. Johnson (and Berrian) are not those kind of guys... What do you call "stepping up?" His one catch against SEA or the 2 catches against NO (when AZ was still in the wild card race)? My point is: someone is going to have to pay him too much money. I don't want that someone to be us. I say, be smart, spend and draft wisely, and plan for a SB run in 2010...

I agree with LT2_3. Signing UFAs just b/c they come from good teams isn't the way to build a team. The QBs in this draft have already been overvalued on this board. Matt Ryan and Josh Johnson are the only players worth drafting, and I'm sure all the other teams know that, too. Joe Flacco will never be a starter in the NFL. Woodson and Brohm are system products with weak arms. Henne has a strong arm, but he's been carried by a great line, great WR corps, and a great RB all 4 years at U of M. He'll get none of that here... and we need WRs that can get open. Bryant Johnson can't get open. He only caught passes when Boldin and Fitzgerald were on the field. I know we have a lot of needs, but your ideal offseason is overvaluing a lot of mediocre players...

I think JA is afraid to make the high picks...good for contracts, good for roster choices, bad for Bears fans. We don't have any talent on offense, and I attribute a lot of that to JA trying to hard to find "diamonds in the rough." Bradley, Wolfe, Bazuin, Okwo, Manning, Haynes...all reaches who were drafted higher than their worth. He sets his mind on guys and falls in love with them. He's building another TB here. He has a great eye for D talent, but something is missing on offense here, just like it was there. It's our fault b/c his team doesn't need to be exciting or contending to be profitable. I'm not saying he's not trying to win, b/c I think he is, but I also think he's a little too comfortable...

I'll be that guy and say it: I think Dungy blew the SD game. Should've kicked the FG with 3 min. left and put the game in the hands of his defense. I really think the genius of that organization is in the front office. That team has been built solid from both days of the draft. Can anyone name a 1st round bust? Manning, Harrison, the Edge, Freeney, Wayne, Addai...all 1st round picks-turned-superstars. How do we measure up? Urlacher, Harris...that's it

We don't want Rogers. He has character issues, much like Tank, minus the guns. Haynesworth would be awesome, but will never happen. He will get the richest DT contract (until we resign Tommie). That tandem sure would look good out there though. Maybe it's possible? I mean, how does Minny keep the Williams boys? Their contracts can't be cheap, either.

Isn't Colt Brennan just another David Klingler or Andre Ware? He didn't do too well against GA, but then again, it's highly likely that no one would, including LSU. The 'Dogs were playing pretty good football by January...

The hardest part of being a sports fan is the uncertainty of injuries, I think especially in football, b/c losing one player can end a season. My season ended in the third quarter of Week 1 when Mike went down...it's just not that much fun to watch da Bears without him running around making plays. Even DPOY Bob Sanders paled in comparison to the playmaking ability of Mike Brown... That said, I also think several if not most of us were pretty optimistic about our off-season. The offense looked like it added the much needed speed, and Walker and Archuleta looked to be upgrades over Tank and Chris Harris, whom I think was our biggest mistake. He was prone to mental errors, but was growing within the system, and played physical. He could've filled that SS spot for the next 5 years. Now its a need, as well as several other positions, and I just don't see us filling them all in one off-season. Personally (and this post is getting way too long), I think we fix the offense this off-season, and see if scoring more points and controlling the clock won't cloak a subpar (by our standards) defense...

SD comes out of Indy pretty beat up...but the season is a success for me just seeing the 'Boys lose like that. I'm so sick of hearing they're America's team. I'm sure the Boo-Ya network will still feature them all week long, but at least I only have to watch that crap while I'm on the treadmill...

As a die-hard Michigan fan, I cringe to imagine the prospect of da Bears drafting him on Day 1. While he has shown glimpses, and had a fantastic Capitol One Bowl, he doesn't move well in the pocket, and can't win the big games. He makes great throws, and has good NFL size, but most of his great games came with Braylon Edwards catching the ball and a great O-line keeping his jersey clean.

It's interesting to read and post about current players and potential new additions, but the coaching staff lifted my eyebrows more this year than any, and I've never been a Lovie fan...(but that's another story) Any rookies that have made an impact made it immediately. We haven't developed anyone. Our team was one of the least disciplined team on the field every week. And all this after the season of off-the-field incidents last year. It seems to me that the coaches are just Lovie's buddies, and not necessarily talented football coaches. With the exception of Toub, would any of these guys have a job outside of the Bears? I think not...

I understand that he is our only WR, but is he worth a huge chunk of money? How many times did he drop a pass or give up on a route or make the wrong hot read on a blitz? I say bon voyage...we sign Bryant Johnson, put a ton of OTA work into developing Hester and Bradley, and move Wolfe into the slot. If we use more 2 TE sets, we can split Olsen out. I like his chances against any CB in the league, esp. in goal line jump balls.

a 400 lb. squat isn't very strong, esp. for an NFL player who isn't a kicker. I guess I should've said "mass," instead of strength, because you are right, that really is the obstacle. But I was thinking along the lines of: "strength to break tackles." And I've seen Wolfe knocked down by arm tackles from 200 lb. safeties...
-
I just wanted to say that I am very impressed with the new site.
-
I really wonder if Wolfe can add enough strength to be a legitimate back on any down...maybe his future is in the slot?

They won't franchise Anderson...he's a restricted free agent, so they will get picks if he's signed away. And based on how many teams covet him, the contract will be big, and the picks will be high. I know we need a QB, but he really the answer? Look at how that team has been built. #6 overall in 2004 (Winslow). #3 overall in 2005 (Edwards, who I really was hoping would fall to us). #3 overall in 2007 (Thomas). Top FA OG in 2007 (Steinbach). They had speed and talent on the outside, and then rebuilt the left side of their line in one offseason. Pretty good formula for a QB's success... Most teams that do well build from the line back, and take talent when it's available. I don't think any WR or QB in this draft warrants the #14 pick, so we should build a foundation this year and look to be a contender again in 09.

Skill players usually take longer to adjust than do the trench men, and let's face it, Hester's mental capacity has a lot to do with his slow progress.I think they're bringing him along slowly cuz the guy wants to make a bg play so badly, he is a danger to give the ball away or leave himself vulnerable to a big hit. The difference between running back punts and kicks is huge. Punts you usually have more time to see the field develop while the ball is in the air cuz 9/11 defenders are slow off the ball and breaking from the line of scrimmage. Kicks everyone is spaced out and running full speed for 30-40 yards before contact.

As much as I would love to get a stud safety, Kenny Phillips is a FS, and we're in dire need of a SS. DM isn't going anywhere. It all starts with the O-line. Did I really just read a post where someone doesn't want to sign Faneca b/c he's 32, but instead wants to resign Ruben Brown, who is 37? I understand the economics of your rationale, but we screwed up by not pursuing Steinbach last year, and poor OG play is what really hurt our running game this year. Sometimes you gotta bite the bullet. Our receiving corp is going to be awful next season, irregardless of who we franchise or draft, so we need to have the running game.

Sorry guys, I'm a little behind, so please Bear with me... No way we should (and I hope we don't, although da front office defies logic) franchise Berrian. He's a #2 at best, lacks focus, misses blitz reads, and has no chemistry with any of the QBs, all of whom have been on the team for 2+ years. He's fast, and has made some big plays, but 40% effort doesn't warrant $8 mill/ year... Mighty Mike needs to be treated as a luxury, rather than a guarantee. I hope he is willing to restructure with incentives. I love the guy, and if he agrees to that, it will show that he loves Chicago. We need to rebuild our O-line and look for speed at WR in free agency and day one of the draft. With so many holes to fill, our best hope is to sign OG Faneca and draft an OT in the 1st Round. Maybe a guy like Chad Henne falls into the 2nd, and we take him to develop. I don't know, but the WR class doesn't look too promising, so I'm sure a lot will be overvalued and picked too early, ala Mark Bradley or Williamson. Let's hope we don't make that same mistake (again)...

kyyle23 makes a good point...martz ran the ball less than 10 times in 4 games this season. i've also read where the o-line has had some shouting matches with him. they're OTs rank 1st and 4th in the league in sacks allowed. few people realize that matrz was the OC for only one season before getting the HC job, which he butchered...fact is, without a solid O-line, some speed, and a lot of dedication (Berrian), it doesn't matter who calls what plays if no one can execute them...
