Draft nearly done. Fingers crossed we pick up some quality free agents draftees. Have to say I’m happy with what we have done over the 3 days. Shame we will have another year without a first next year but if Fields is great that is fine. I think we are better than last year and we made the playoffs. Would love Rogers continuing to be pissed off and retires. Don’t think it will happen but we can dream.

Wouldn’t mind a DT and Marvin Wilson is available. In my draft guide it indicates he’s a decent player. Don’t know if he will last to our pick if the report I’m reading is accurate.
-
In the draft guide I bought it states Newsome is one of the best route runners in the draft and is skilled and crafty which gains him separation but hasn’t got a 2nd gear.
-
Leading up to the draft the consensus was we need a QB and tackles. Does this mean all of the board are behind what Pace and Nagy have done so far. Whether they have done enough before today I still want them to succeed because if they do so does my beloved Bears.

So The Bears Finally Picked A Player That Has A Chip On His Shoulder
50england50 replied to lemonej's topic in Bearstalk
I think Fields and Jenkins both have a chip on their shoulders. Jenkins because he believes he should be a first round pick and will make the other 31 teams regret their decision as he stated in his interview. From Fields’ demeanour when he was picked and the look in his eyes I would imagine he is pissed off that 2 QB’s other than Lawrence were picked in front of him and it wouldn’t surprise me if he thought he should have been the no.1 player drafted. It would be nice if Jenkins and Fields build a close friendship and use these slights by the teams that passed over them as a to drive to greatness. -
Are there any OT’s left worthy of drafting that improve the team instead of playing: Leno at LT and Jenkins right Or Jenkins at left and who ever is currently on the roster that will win the RT spot? Could Leno play RT? Will Eric Fisher be ready by training camp, could the Bears afford him and if yes is the answer to both would this sort out our oline now and into the future.

Awesome draft so far as long as Fields and Jenkins pan out. Fingers crossed because the draft is a crapshoot and I am unsure what the success rate is with a transition from college to the NFL. It’s probably below 50%. Would like Jenkins to play LT so that we can move on from Leno and save cap space but a greater hole could be at RT. Shame we gave up our 4th for Foles and we haven’t managed to trade him. I had hoped Miller being on the block could have got us a decent pick like a 4th but the WR position in this draft is strong. Fingers crossed Dalton has good success and he gets a good contract in free agency and the Bears get a decent compensatory pick like a 3rd but I don’t know the process for determining the picks. Nice if we could get another OT, a CB and S today and if so would round of the draft perfectly.

Tashaun Gipson is the free agent I was hoping to resign. I thought he played well last year considering Eddie Jackson lacklustre play. Another year of familiarity with the Bears and playing for a good contract I hope he plays great and gets rewarded by the Bears. I now feel that safety isn’t a need and Pace can draft best player available or trade up to get a QB prospect. I hope it’s the former and my ideal scenario is trade back in the first to a desperate team and pick up another 2nd. I wouldn’t be against giving up next years first for a high 2nd and another pick or 2. I would love to come away with 2 OT’s, a developmental QB, a CB and TE with these picks made before the end of the third round.
-
1 OT 2 CB 3 QB 4 WR 5 OT I would prefer QB at 4 but this would be dependent on the run on them and don’t think any will be available when we use our 4th pick.
-
I just this mock on PFF.com and traded with the Saints to get their 2nd and did some more trading down and here are my picks: 28 Teven Jenkins OT 60 Dyami Brown WR 61 Ifeatu Melifonwu CB 83 Kellen Mond QB 88 Ar’Darius Washington S 161 Tommy Tremble TE 164 Shakur Brown CB 208 Rhamondre Stevenson 221 Jonathan Cooper ED I also gained a 2022 2nd round pick from the Texans
-
This year the Bears would be stupid to trade up to get in a position to draft 1 of the top 5 QB’s unless someone drops which is unlikely and we would have to get in front of the Patriots. I would prefer to draft a 2nd tier QB and hope we are to get a quality starter or a solid backup. I would prefer to trade back as long as we can pick up a quality rookie at LT, CB and WR. In my dream scenario we trade back in the first and pick up another 2nd.

Bears sign Andy Dalton per the score. Foles 2.0
50england50 replied to BearFan2000's topic in Bearstalk
The Bears have given away too much draft capital over the last few years. I would like to see a different approach. I wouldn’t mind drafting out of the 1st round and picking up extra picks for this and next year. If we were able to get a couple of 2nd round picks next year this would give capital for that draft. The only position I’m interested in this year is OT. If we could get 2 and 1 pans out that great. Even if we picked a OT in the 2nd and 3rd round I would be amazed they wouldn’t be an upgrade on Leno and Ifredi. -
I have been doing the PFF mock simulator. I have traded down in the first round to teams that have later 1st round picks and early 2nds. This has enabled me to get 2 decent OT’s. That is my wish this year and move on from Leno. For this to happen QB’s go quickly including Mac Jones. Please !!!!!!! Pace forget the QB this year and draft 2 OT’s and then the BPA and hopefully a CB or safety.
-
The draft is a crapshoot at best. Remember Trubisky was the no 1 rated QB and the only issue the analysts had with Pace was moving up 1 spot to pick him because everyone felt the 49ers didn’t want a QB and no one was going to move past the Bears. Although Jimmy G has some injury flags if we don’t get into a war with the Patriots or other teams I wouldn’t mind giving the 49ers our 1st next year to sign him. With a trade the 49ers would have 2.8 million in dead money and free up 23.6 million. This is from over the cap. Maybe the 49ers would accept Robinson instead of a draft pick and this would help with signing Jimmy G. This would then allow the signing of a quality OT to replace Leno. I don’t want to give lots of draft capital to move up to somewhere between the 10th and 15th pick.
-
What about trading for Jimmy G. On NFL.COM I states the 49ers would receive a massive cap relief.

Bears sign Andy Dalton per the score. Foles 2.0
50england50 replied to BearFan2000's topic in Bearstalk
Pace may have drafted the wrong quarterback but I can’t see how the Bears would have been in a position to sign Trubisky to a franchise quarterback contract if he was the best quarterback of his draft class. Maybe if Trubisky had played par or better than Mahoney the Bears may not have signed Mack. If you look at Dalton and Foles’ contracts the quarterback room is still be paid well below the going rate. My hope is that Desai turns the defense back to the 2018 class, we run the ball well and Dalton is able to perform at a level that enables the Bears to beat the class teams in the NFC and we beat the Packers twice. -

I don’t think the Bears were in a position to sign Andy Dalton last year because until they drafted Joe Barrow he wasn’t available. The Bears may have been able to trade for Dalton but the Bengals could have been asking for more than a 4th round pick prior to the draft. Pace or Nagy wouldn’t have been prepared to wait that long. Pace likes to get his free agent class signed well before the draft so he can take the best player available although this hasn’t always worked out and especially in the early rounds. The issue with Fuller is a different matter. I don’t think he was worth paying 20 million this year and because of our cap problems was likely to be moved. Fuller was a good player but not worth that much and hasn’t intercepted the ball enough recently. I don’t know if it’s scheme but I hated how far Fuller would sit off the wide receiver at the line of scrimmage. We will need to see the play of his replacement to see how much Fuller is missed. I do think the Bears need to make an evaluation of how the cap has got this bad. I think Cliff Stein used to do the contracts back in the day and was viewed as being good at this role. Maybe the cap will always go from having lots of space and then being tight and needing to release players. The contract I think that is going to hurt us going forward is Mack’s and because this has been renegotiated twice already is going to be restrictive done the line. -
Bears sign Andy Dalton per the score. Foles 2.0
50england50 replied to BearFan2000's topic in Bearstalk
Regarding Dalton weak arm look at the Ravens game. He threw a Hail Mary from about the 40 yard line and easily reached the end zone and Lamb should have caught it. He rolled out numerous times and didn’t look immobile and certainly not as statuesque as Foles. From what I saw he is an improvement on Foles and if he has a good season is young enough to be the Bears starter for 4 to 6 years. If that is the case we can focus and drafting in the positions of most importance which is the offensive and defensive lines and especially this year a left tackle to replace Leno. -

I live in the UK and have listened to various media outlets since the start of free agency especially the criticism of signing Andy Dalton. I decided to look at a few of Dallas’ games and considering him being in a similar situation to Nick Foles in getting adjusted to a new offensive system I felt his performances were superior. Considering the injuries and poor play that Dallas had on their oline Dalton performed quite well and their porous defense didn’t help their ability to win or stay in games. What I saw from Dalton was a quarterback who is safe with the ball and able to put the ball in the correct place on timing routes. Dalton also can get the ball down the field. From what I saw is he Russell Wilson the answer is no. Is he better than Trubisky and Foles I think the answer is yes and he may turn out to be better than any quarterback we have had in years and including Cutler. The one hope I have is the Dalton may enable the Bears in the draft to take the best player available and not over reach for a quarterback. -
On NFL.com there is an article that Miami has cut Isaiah Wilson whom they received from Tennessee in a recent trade. Wilson was a 1st pick with Tennessee and his draft profile projected him as a RT prospect. Wilson might be claimed well before the Bears can pick him up at 20 but there seems to be some character issues such as not attending meetings. There are some issues with the police but if the culture in the building is as fantastic as Pace and Nagy say could this help Wilson get back on track. Wilson must be as good or better as Germaine Ifedi so worth a punt. Probably signs with the Patriots as becomes a quality starting RT.

Wish it was April Fools but looks like Fuller cut
50england50 replied to 50england50's topic in Bearstalk
It’s easy to knock Pace and the ownership about the current state of the Bears but what can’t be denied is when money needs to be spent its available. Where is the loyalty to the team. Fuller was drafted by the Bears, paid handsomely when he signed the 2nd contract and I understand he earned it. However it is evident with the reduction in the salary cap that the Bears are in a hole. Indications from the media are the Bears asked Fuller to renegotiate his contract and refused possibly believing that he could earn more after being cut. Fuller may be pissed that he was offered as part of the Wilson deal but that is part of the business and shouldn’t surprise any player. I can’t believe that the contract offered Fuller by the Bears was any worse that he is now getting from Denver. So Fuller is back with Fangio and good riddance. This is an example of players being mercenaries of not caring about the team they play for. Or at least not in the same way that the fans are invested into their teams. -
Disappointed with this, understand the need for cap space but might have been better to cut Hicks because there is still a lot of dead money.
-
Good luck Mitch I wonder what would have happened if Lazor had called plays all year and the Foles experiment had been tried I wonder what his season would have been. If it was really good would we have been able to sign him to a long term contract with the state of our cap.
-
Regarding Dalton my only query would be oh he better, worse or on par with Mitch and if not better would Mitch have signed for £10 M plus 3 M in bonuses. I was looking at over the cap and I agree that we are in a hole at the moment and Pace is to blame for this. A glaring issue with our cap is Mack and the money spent on the defense. When has signing big money free agents or trading for a player worked out. The only thing I can say with Pace is he tried to put together a defense that would make us playoff capable and didn’t factor in a possible cap reduction The patriots had a major down turn last year and I think that was accepted by them to sort out their bad cap situation

So Pace now has a starter and backup playing for a starters money. In some ways I would have liked a big splash but glad we didn’t mortgage the future giving away multiple 1st round picks. Is it possible that Dalton is an upgrade of Mitch and Foles?
