http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfcnorth/0-9-14...-the-Bears.html Interesting considering that we just signed Shaffer. That could also mean Shaffer could be moving to Guard or was just a pickup for depth. Interesting to say the least.

Well, you guys definatly calmed me down a little bit, but I have seen this guy get burned quite a few times. I remember watching a game last year and I was wondering who the heck that #29 was because he got burned twice. I thought it was Jason David, but it was Bullocks. He seems to have upside, but I hope our new DB coach (can't remember his name) from the Texans can teach him a few things. Or maybe the Tampa 2 might be a better strong suite for him. But the irony of this is that his only interception came from Da Bears.

This move really shows how CHEAP and unwilling to get real talent on the field. Before the offseason began I did a rundown of all the Free Safties there were. The only one that I saw worth getting was Otogwe. As soon as that was gone it was slim pickins. Might as well just keep Mike Brown and get a FS in the draft. But, we shun Mike Brown and get this GARBAGE? Bullocks was rated as the worst FS. He is coming from the worst secondary in the NFL. I can hear Angelo say, "he comes cheap so we might as well pick him up for a new project". If we were going to be a REAL team, we would have tried for at least Sharper. At this point I am so fed up with how this offseason has turned out and the rumors of Angelo being tied down by the owners are killing me. This really makes me wonder where this franchise has come. We have been a pretty big laughing stock these past couple years. And you wonder why the Chicago writers even hate the Bears. I'm sorry for the vent, but I know I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Apparently Harrell's stock is actually lower than I thought. He might even be had in the 3-4th round. I think that's great value. I know he was in a offense friendly system, but I think he has the tools to become a good QB. And I also think that we have other needs in the 1st and 2nd round like the O and D Lines and safety.
-
Haha, I was rambling about the WR's and never said what we should do about the QB situation. I say we either draft a QB on day 1 of the draft (anyone but Tebow. Harrell would be my choice in the 2nd round if he lasts that long) or if we are really set on getting a vet, Alex Smith makes the most sense to me. If Angelo really isn't sold on Orton we need someone who could be a long term replacement. Smith I believe has more in him than what he did in San Fran. When he was under Norv Turner (offensive coordinator) he looked pretty strong. But then they switched the coordinator on him again. I believe that he had 4 offensive coordinators in his term in SF. But you're right that we do need a servicable #2. Hanie has upside, but not sure if he's ready for #2 yet. Haven't seen enough of him to make that judgement.
-
I might be in the minority here, but I don't think that we need a vet QB. I think Orton was good enough and he has some more upside than any other option out there. In my eyes he showed enough to be the long term QB. What the best thing we can do for ourselves is get a REAL WR. TJ Housh or Antonio Bryant would factor in nicely. We need a Number 1 WR. We have 6 #3 WR's on our team. What we need to do is get Housh or Antonio and give Orton some real weapons and we'll be in business. If I had my way I would have this lineup: QB-Orton RB-Forte WR1-Housh WR2-Lloyd/Hester WR3-Bennett/Hester TE1-Olsen TE2-Clark. Get rid of Booker and Davis, resign Lloyd and we'll have some real weapons. Teams will have a tough time defending this offense. They can't key on Hester, Forte, Housh and Olsen. Adding that legit #1 Reciver opens the door to a better offense. Orton was not the problem, it's the weapons around him. Last season we were a 1 trick pony overusing Forte. Get a legit WR and I guarantee success.
-
Great NEWS!!!!! At first I thought this was a really dumb move, but now he made his point. If he stayed out longer then it would have been stupid. I think Jerry found out how life would have been without your most potent weapon. Pay the man and we'll all be happy.
-
I guarantee all 4 will be in the lineup, but all we can hope for is that they won't be in sync for the 1st week and we benefit from it. I would take that.
-
That's a good point, but if he does go down, then we would have a mad scamble and pick one of those 4/5 RB's that are out there. I just think that it's not a big hurry to grab anyone. If there is an injury then we can go to the FA pool.
-
The only thing I can take out of this is that Lovie and Angelo seem to really like Forte. If they have that much faith in him to not even check out the possible competition for him it definatly shows how much potential he has. I can't wait till the preseason to see how good he really is. They see a lot more than we do, so I trust their judgement, but I also want to see for myself.

In the San Diego game, our defense looked top notch. With everyone healthy we looked better than the previous year. But as we all know Mike Brown and Dusty went down. Those were the 2 postions we were with the least amount of depth and it showed. Health is the #1 issue with the defense and our team. I remember the year we went to the Super Bowl everyone believed we had the best depth in the NFL. We have some players, but we need everyone to step it up and stay healthy and we will be contenders THIS year.

I believe that Bentley would be a definate upgrade at the a very weak position. He would come in and help out Williams right away. As of right now, I believe LG is the weakest part of our offense (which is a pretty weak offense as is). If we want to be a running team we need a strong LG because Williams in not known as a great run blocker. I know a lot of people want Rueben Brown to come back, but he is more of a question mark than Bentley. If we don't win the Bentley sweepstakes, it wouldn't hurt to see if he's healthy. I just think we need an upgrade in order to compete this year.

Walker beaten, robbed of cash and jewelry in Las Vegas
Dabears33 replied to DrunkBomber's topic in Bearstalk
Thank you AZ because I was going to say the same thing. I live in Vegas and Koval is the back streets behind all of the hotels. I would not be caught dead (no pun intended) on that street at night. You're just asking for trouble. I don't think it's even possible to just stumble back there without going any major roads, so it does kind of seem like someone either placed him there or he wanted to be in a secluded area (I don't know why). Very odd story. -
Although I think we might just be waiting for a QB to drop from Tampa, I don't really think that's the greatest idea. I was kind of wondering if we do go a whole year without an answer to the QB position, who is going to be a free agent after the season? Are there any decent or potential QB's out there? If not then we will be right back at square 1. My hypothesis of what they were thinking was that they are hoping that Simms is dropped. He was OK when he played, but he has/had a lot of potential. Even if he comes in this year and sits (which is the situation that it looks like) he'll practically be a rookie again. He'll get 100% healthy after his spleen incident and he'll absorb the playbook. I think we are hoping for this, but with Gruden you never know what he has up his sleeve.
-
Agreed, no way do we lose more draft picks. Especially with this quiet offseason, I think we are going to stockpile as many picks as possible. As much as it is worth getting a stud like McFadden, it's tough to pick in that top 10 and pay all that guaranteed money. Plus, we have a lot of needs in important positions. TRADE DOWN, not UP!!!!!
-
My only thought would be that he's waiting for the set price and seeing if he can match it. But other than that, I have no freakin clue what he's doing.

That was the first time that someone actually came up with another scenario to fix the Bears QB situation. I've been asking all the other skeptics about what the Bears should have done rather than getting Grossman back for a small price and competition. And their answers are..........I don't know. Then they mention Anderson or McNabb, which aren't really on the market. This was a good crack and a different way to think about the situation, but I wouldn't like the decision. We had our chance to get Warner, but he went to Arizona instead. Now we'd have to give up a draft pick for a guy that was thought to be washed up 2 years ago. We made the right move. It might not be the best move, but in our circumstances, it could have been worse. We could be going into Training Camp with Orton, Todd Collins and Draft Pick(just throwing out names on the market). We are holding onto that glimmer of hope that Grossman will snap out of him coma. Maybe a little competition in Orton and a future QB might do it.

^^ Very well put. We have the LB's that we want in place. It would be nice to get an old flame in the picture, but you know how that goes when they've already been replaced. Not too pretty.

See David Carr. Where is he now? Looks as if Rex would follow the same path if he left the Bears.

Chris Williams had a really good Senior Bowl and the "Experts" and all the players were saying that he was the best lineman at the Senior Bowl by far. I was reading the blogs from ESPN with the interviews of the seniors and a lot of people were saying how impressive he was and what a great presence he was on the field. That says a lot from a lineman having a presence on the field. As for the other picks, I would have to disagree with the Henne pick, but getting Kevin Smith from South Florida would be AWESOME!!! But for me a decent draft, but it also depends on what we do in Free agency and who we resign. We have plenty of free agents ourselves.

Thank you for putting that speculation to rest

Sucks to be the Saints. They lose out on a home game, but I thought that they wanted to help out New Orleans by putting the people in the seats. I guess that the whole Katrina thing has lost its luster and the economics is starting to catch up with the city. I just think they should have picked a team that doesn't have a large fan support. Like Tampa. They couldn't even fill a playoff game. I'm glad it's not the Bears that have to travel, but it would be a national televised game. This is what the NFL is doing to New Orleans and

Did Bush play at all this season? I couldn't seem to find him, I think he was dancing in the backfield all season.
